This new folding smartphone gimbal from DJI has many new features and enhancements over the previous model including ActiveTrack 3.0, new foldable design, gesture control, among others. The Osmo Mobile 3 is quick to deploy so you can get up and filming faster. In this review, we go over all the new features and how to connect the Osmo Mobile 3 to the new updated Mimo App. The Osmo Mobile 3 comes in 2 different packages, you can buy just the gimbal itself or you can purchase it as a combo that includes a case, pouch, and tripod.

Thanks for the review. Have you tried using the Osmo Action with this gimbal? If so, were you able to achieve connectivity between the two?
Those are wonderful views going down to the beach. Reminded me of walking down from the campsite near Colleville-sur-mer to Juno Beach, which I have been lucky enough to do a few times now.

One comment on the device: with my android phone, it seems you have to launch the app to bring the gimbal to life.
Also, I found the enclosed instruction leaflet to be little short of useless.

I bought the GoPro 7 black last week for our S.Pacific WW2 cruise Tokyo to Sydney & will use it on this trip. I sold the Osmo Pocket as my XR iPhone did a better job on a recent trip.

On the mobile 2, you would press the M button once to change from flow to lock mode (green LED to yellow LED) with the gimble. Which is something I’m very familiar with..

Does the audio have a hiss or hum without using a mic? I know when using a GoPro with other gimbals and no mic the GoPro would pick up the motor hum but by listening to the gimbal you couldn’t hear it unless it was near your ear.
Go pros have very sensitive microphones and do tend to pick up humming from the motors. I have not really noticed any coming from the Osmo mobile 3 With my iPhone installed
No issues now with iphone microphone on Dji osmo.3 ?

Great review as usual! I don’t think will see any new drone until at least late next year. Too many countries are in flux in regards to drone laws so DJI wisely will wait until the dust is settled and they can see the panorama if the market more clear.
Hi Shawn and thanks for the video. After seeing your video, I bought one and love it!
There is however one thing I think they have missed. With gesture control and "follow" mode, when the mobile is in PORTRAIT, the subjects face is in the centre of the screen (in the little box with the cross). The result is that the legs of the subject are always out of frame. This is a problem as I often do my videos in portrait and I often want my whole body in the frame.
A simple software solution would be to be able to choose "whole body" or choose to position the square in the top 1/3 of the frame when in portrait mode.
The reason I'm contacting you is that this could be a good subject for a video for you. And DJI would probably prioritise the software improvement because of your influence. Win win🙂

Eagerly waiting to hear/see how the new iphone 11 performs with this gimbal. More specifically, I'm curious to know if the following two concerns are addressed (by either Apple or DJI)
1) iphone 11's optical image stabilization fighting with the gimbal's stabilization
2) iphone 11's ultra wide lens (120 degree - view) sees a portion of the gimbal (if it indeed does)
I do plan on ordering and iPhone 11 Pro max so I’ll definitely do a compatibility video to see how it performs. And that’s a good point about the ultra wide lens, that’ll be interesting
Thoughts on build quality? I still have an Osmo Mobile 1. Was thinking this would finally replace it but it looks pretty plasticy. The build-quality of the OM1 is fantastic.
Thanks for the video, but I'd like to know what is the battery life is like. How much play time do you get with the battery?
According to DJI they have it rated at 15 hours in ideal conditions with a properly balanced phone
Even with you walking very slowly and carefully it still looked bumpy. My steadycam setting in my phone does the same job. Nice over view but would looked to have seen you try it to a more extreme level of testing. Even walking briskly.

2:35 That screw-in socket on the side of the phone clamp . . . is that by any chance for adding a counterbalance if your phone is rigged with an external mic, for example?🤔
I’m assuming at some point there is going to be maybe a counterweight set released by DJI or some other type of accessory.

Is there a trick to how to fold it, because I can't seem to fold mine? When I turn the gimbal off and try to pull it down it doesn't budge

No you do not need a Wi-Fi connection to make use of Bluetooth

I liked the way you reviewed the gimbal. And subscribed. Will you be able you use the gimbal just with the buttons on it. Because i have samsung j6 and i guess it is not compatible with the gimbal. My phone has no image stabilasation

Glad to see the lightning port is available to connect a mic such as the Rode videomicro. My question is what options are available to attach said mic either to the gimbal or the phone itself?

If you mount it directly in the unit it does not work. I have not tested it yet with an adapter but I do plan on it.
Fiji 6 plus gimble instead? Check reviews knocks spots off and similar price. :)
How do you think this would work with an iPhone 8 Plus with an Otter Box case?
Will it hold an iPhone using and Otterbox....appears like it won't be able to hold something like that.....
@Air Photography ...At 4:05 you say holding in Mode, Shutter & Trigger Resets the Bluetooth. I thought this was a System Reset.
Can you play/pause while taking video on the app?

I just picked up one of these, I have a quick question. I watched your video on my 55" 1080P TV and the footage looked lovely, sharp & smooth. I cannot seem to get smooth results from the couple of tests I did today with my S9 plus. Are you shooting at 4K @ 30 FPS then rendering at 4K @ 30FPS?. I am playing with the output settings in Davinci Resolve.
Shame they didn’t make the case a little bit bigger to fit the tripod inside as well.

The folding Snoppa Atom might be a better folding option?
