  • A classic dish from the state of Karnataka made to a combination of rice, tur dal (lentil), assorted vegetables and freshly ground spices all mixed and cooked together. It is a very healthy and nutritious dish. Spices like nutmeg and asafoetida, curry leaves and tamarind pulp used in its preparation contribute to the unique flavor and taste of this dish sambhar sadam

    Ingredients
    2 Tsp Broken cashew nuts
    2 Cardamom
    1 Tsp Chana Dal
    1 inch piece Cinnamon
    2 Cloves
    1 Tsp Coriander seeds
    1 Tsp Cumin seeds or some use fennel
    1 tbsp Dessicated coconut
    4 Dry red chillies
    few sprigs Few curry leaves
    0 Ginger Garlic Paste (Optional)
    pinch 0 Hing (Asafoetida)
    2 cups 0 mixed vegetables (carrots, beans, radish, shallots, tomatoes, drum sticks, onions)
    1/2 tsp Mustard seeds
    1 Tsp 0 Oil
    1 cup Rice
    1 to taste Salt
    20 grams Tamarind juice
    1/2 cup 0 Toor dal
    1/4 tsp 0 Turmeric
    1tsp 0 Urad Dal
    Directions
    1. wash the toor dal and add 1 1/2 cups of water to it. and keep aside.or cook along with rice as shown
    2. Roast all spices, mix with coconut, turmeric powder, ginger and garlic (optional), grind it to a powder form. keep this masala aside.
    3. Heat the oil in pan and add the cumin and mustard seeds and curry leaves, after spluttering add the onions and fry till soft. Add all the chopped vegetables and softly fry it.
    4. Add the rice, toor dal to the fried vegetables and add the masala /tomatoes(optional)along with tamarind juice and salt, cool it till the ingredient are done.
    5. Garnish the dish with coriander leaves and serve it hot

    Its not sambhar sadam, stop insulting karnataka food. Call it by its proper name. Americans here make an effort and call it proper, you being an indian u cant make an effort to say it right! Its BISI BELE BATH not bela! 😡 and generally eggplant and drumsticks are not used, only those who cheat doing sambhar and make it use those veggies. Carrots, beans, kohlrabi, bell pepper, tomatoes, potatoes, onions sometimes.i hv liked ur mysore pak, and a few other dishes. I hope some courtesy is shown to all states!

    Bisi bela bath is not sambar sadam.The masalas are different-for one bisi bela bath has spices like nut meg and all the heavier spices.Also no okra-drumstick or tomatoes;only nice root vegs and beans peas carrots and oh the lovely potato;the masala is coarse ground-sambhar is fine ground

    Looks tasty however need to work on Demonstration part, for e.g in the Demonstration it says add Daal, however it never mentioned the process i.e what kind of Daal has to be added & does it require to boil ? Please advise as it's bit confusing to the beginners in cooking

    Its not bisi bella baath. Its bisi bele baath. Bella in kannada means jaggery

    Its not bisi bella... U r not pronouncing well. Its bisi bele bath... That means hot mixture of daal & rice with lots of veggies...

    True... in traditional Bisi Bele baath we do not use okra (lady's finger), onion or green chilli..

    sir pls don't alter the traditional way of making bisibelebath ,,,here in Karnataka we never use okra or eggplant to this recipe ! what ur showing is totally different from the actual one :(

    This Z difrent... Bbb in karnataka looks orangish colour.... V add little jaggery too fr sweetening purpose, guess this will have a difrent taste...m gona try this style as well 😋

    Bisi Bele Baath mein bhindi, onion and garlic nahi dalate, I am from North Karnataka we used only potato, beans and nuts in bisi bele baath. this is not a Karnataka style bisi bele baath. it is very different type. I always do it once a week its really very good taste.

    But sir...in traditional bisibelabath....no onios no garlic no vegetables no cardamom
    Especially adding cardamom in bisi bela bath is considered as crime....I heard this from another chef

    Ginger garlic in bisibeLe bhath?!! Nooo... it spoils the taste of the classic bisibeLe bhath.. & Okra is never used to prepare BisibeLe Bhath.. The method vahchef has taught is somewhat similar to preparing haleem.. This is not how it is prepared.. :(

    Even the pronounciation of "bele" is wrong
    And papad is not served with it..it's always boondi or potatoe chips..

    Please dont add okra or ladies finger as vegetable for this dish, it becomes sticky/slimy. Drum sticks or Moringa and green beans are ideal vegetables for this dish, remaining vegetables per your choice

    The masalas are all wrong, again it’s ginger garlic free dish and lastly no okra. Also the dish is very much Karnataka, other states generally sambhar rice is passed off as bisi bele baat.

      bisibele bath has unique masala. it uses Marati moggu(shalmali/semul) one of the important ingredient that is missing here.

    Swapni Peddi, dry spices can be stored for a long time. Roast them well, powder and keep them for months.

    bisi bele bath is typically not done with egg plant and ladies finger.. it means hot dal served with rice . you can cook with your favourite veggies but cannot say that it is egg plant is main
