- `Akaka Falls is a magnificent 440 foot waterfall a little north of Hilo, on the Island of Hawai`i. Helen Parker wrote a much loved song about the place in the early 1930s, praising the beauty of the falls and the surroundings. The song has long been a falsetto favorite, so it's a natural for Ledward.
The John G. Shedd Institute for the Arts is devoted to bringing live music to the citizens of Eugene both in the form of performances by notable artists and through their community music school program. This video is from Ledward's performance there on June 2, 2012.
Ledward is tuned to "drop C" - C G D G B D from low to high, but capoed at the 4th fret, giving the key of E.
The video was captured on a Panasonic Lumix GH2, with audio recorded on a Sony PCM-D50 connected to the mixing console. Editing was done in Edius Neo.
We have his every cd. There is NO bad Ledward music. It’s all awesome and keeps us focused on the islands of Hawaii. He is such a happy musician always has a laugh in there somewhere. We have met him many times and always a pleasure to shake his hand and say how much we value his wonderful music. Thank you Ledward for sharing your special music. It’s always a gift!

Wish I had heard this BEFORE we visited Akaka Falls - Would have made it even MORE beautiful!!! Mahalo, Mr. Kaapana!
This clip is accompanied by a gorgeous "Hi`ilawe" from the Shedd Institute, but I wanted to call your attention to another clip of "Akaka Falls" this time from the falls: th-cam.com/video/y1Q1FCt1f8U/w-d-xo.html

Yes indeed, such a classic song and a magnificent performance.
Fran
So beautiful! Like a dream!
Ah, Patricia, you found the other "Akaka Falls" video. That was a wonderful show with Led doing the kind of solo work that only he can achieve. His "Hi`ilawe" from the same show is another spectacular piece.
Fran
Beautiful & thank you for sharing your musical talent
Thanks for visiting the channel and taking a moment to comment.

My God this is so beautiful Im happy and tearful all at once. This is certainly some of the most beautiful music,as if anges were singing from the presence of God. So lovely, so lovely.Thank you Ledward I have saved this on my favorites. Your laughter is so real you seem so genuine, I'm sure Mr Fran appreciates your friendship, thank you too Mr. Guidry for making this music available.

I don't know if you've seen our duet version of this song, done at the site of `Akaka Falls: th-cam.com/video/y1Q1FCt1f8U/w-d-xo.html
Fran
Beautiful voice
I learned of Led as a hot guitarist and harmony vocalist so the first time I saw him do "I Kona" live and solo I was totally surprised and awe struck.
Fran
This talent has kept me well rooted in my tradition and culture of having been raised on the beautiful Island of Hawaii, I grew up in Papaikou and my Grand Parents were only a few miles away from the beautiful Akaka falls, God Bless da' Aina'
MrBikebros Thanks for stopping by and commenting. Ledward will be happy to hear that he helped you stay in touch with your heritage.
Fran
Tellement agréable à écouter

OK, so I like the instrumentals the most usually. That being said, this was epic! I completely see why Led had to clear his throat a couple times before that one! EPIC!!
As I recall Led was suffering from a bit of a cold and had to adjust his key for several songs but he still nailed it. There's another version on the site with Led singing the song in front of Akaka Falls: th-cam.com/video/y1Q1FCt1f8U/w-d-xo.html
Fran
I'd give anything in my possession to be able to preform this beautiful music, not only that, but with this talent!
Omg so beautiful
I love this song
Thanks for your comment. We have another version of this song with Led performing right in front of the falls: th-cam.com/video/y1Q1FCt1f8U/w-d-xo.html

So cool to see him do stuff that he rarely does....so amazing....so beautiful!!
Have you seen this one: th-cam.com/video/y1Q1FCt1f8U/w-d-xo.html
Fran
Yes, I saw that one.....very cool!! The little contraption you had there didn't have a mic hooked up.....yet it you could hear him singing and no background/wind. So cool all the toys you have.....and I'm very greatful for what you are creating with them!! I have more time now to try n work on stuff like that....but no mo $ to buy the toys. hehehe. Mahalo Fran for all your videos and talents!!
I've spent way too much learning to select and use these gadgets and they still do me dirty - that recorder in the picture has developed a sticky icky feeling, the covering has deteriorated and I can't fix it. So I put up with the icky feeling or buy a new one - either option is annoying!
Luckily phones keep getting better and better. Pretty soon all these other gadgets will be unnecessary.
Fran
That falsetto! Beautiful!
Some of the best music I have heard and that includes my favorite, " blue grass"! This man is an artist!
Nahenahe maoli no kela! Mahalo nui loa!
Akaka Falls/Waiulu perfect blend as always.
Such a master, I agree. When Led is being funny it's easy to forget what a profound artist he is, then he pulls out something like this - chicken skin!!
Thanks for visiting and commenting.
Fran
Wow Ledward the one and only beautiful falsetto voice maholo nui loa o na mea luna no eau o na mele e
love it so pretty
Mahalo ohana! Me ke Aloha pumehana❤😊
Thanks for visiting your ohana!
Fran
What pipes! :)
I picture him a Cowboy with red boots, black Cowboy hat riding a black Stallion to the tune of a beautiful music.
I don't think Led ever worked as a cowboy, but his dad and other relatives sure did, so he has legitimate cowboy genes (grin).
Fran
Nice music
Thanks for commenting, Ledward is really something special.
Fran
Dude’s a pro. Got no time to relish the crowds appreciation while changing his guitar’s tuning.
Yeah, Led is the perfect combination of consumate pro and authentic down home.
Fran
I never met him, but thats sweet of him saying “Hi Patsy”! But he live Kalapana n I’m from the boonies Lualualei my grandparents home. How he know me? I no play music, never listen to my uncle. My Aunty Rosie too!!! We Let my uncle down. My aunty never like sing for my uncle n buddies. N I never like play guitar.
More worst, I dance hula on TV n At the end u end the dance n Genoa added another verse dang I was confused n my uncle was watching the show! I never like dance hula anymore. But anyway, I’m Descendant of A Hawaiian Warrior Chief n not suppose to dance. Maybe that’s why I screwed up. Nobody told me anything. They could have saved me from being embarrassed!!!
wow
I think you provided exactly the right comment. I think the same thing every time Led picks up a guitar or starts to sing.
Fran
ʻAʻohe mea e hoʻokani a hīmeni maikaʻi paha!
What guitar is he playing?
I believe it's a Martin DCPA3 - Size D, Cutaway, Performing Artist Series, Style 3. When the DCPA models were new there were several Style numbers, but now there's only the DCPA4.
Fran
Thank you
No ka heke.
