10 yrs later and still love this car. Used market shows for about low to mid 40’s. Even stock with a dedicated drag radial and not using the launch control should get this in the low 11’s.
the 2012 shelby was built before the zl1 came out....The 2013 Shelby is the direct competitor to the zl1. I doubt there will be any changes to the 2013 Zl1 anyway.
yes but they come out with a response product very quick..im sure they have a frame and suspension setup pre-set then just throw in a quicker engine and throw out #s 2 months after...business is business
I'm a Camaro guy, but you're wrong about the GT500. The design was handled by Shelby, certain engine components do come from outside vendors, but that's normal with cars of this level. Even GM gets engine components from outside vendors, like getting the LS pistons from Mahle. The GT500's basically roll off of the same assembly line as the regular production Mustangs.
But what does a 2012 Shelby run? I like to see it year for year. It just seems to me that Ford is waiting to see what GM is going to bring out before they bring theirs out.
I gotcha. The challenger is one nice car, even the new v6 with dual exhaust can manage to turn heads. I'm actually hoping dodge gets one of their cars closer to the camaro and mustang territory soon. All these manufacturers are getting better, but I appreciate the American brands because they give me what I want @ the right price.
Motortrend says its published figures were "corrected figures". Show us a video of you driving a 2013 Mustang GT500 on stock tires on a 1/4 mile drag strip with an ET of 11.6 seconds.
I really think individuals should research information before making statement about a subject. SVT is Ford Employed Engineers and the GT500 is factory built and designed by Ford. FYI . .Take trip to a Ford dealer and examine the GT500 , it has SVT all over it including the Engine with signatures of the builders.
they dont have a automatic zl1 if your interested in fast muscle cars from the factory then look up the cobra jet mustang it runs a 9.95 from the ford factory, no mods needed to achieve those times not even tires
nice im mustang guy but i like american cars all of them and i have respect for them. when i see that American car with less price you can get 12.1 or around 12 i like it wow. no other car like American cars can do 12 with that price.
ya i know all im saying is i have respect for all american cars because america is making cars like this or any american car with price around 50 60K that no company make something like this. or even mustang gt i got my 2011 gt around 25k with 6500Mile on it and i love it i was faster than M3 the 414H m3. and i didnt pay 60 or 70K for M3 i paid around 25K for my mustang and im happy. thats what i like about my america.
Shelby is not a part of Ford Motors, they're an independent tuning firm. Shelby lends his name to Ford products, just as he did in the '80's with Chrysler products. And even the Shelby Series 1 had a GM (Oldsmobile) engine in it.
If you had both cars putting out roughly even horsepower and torque numbers, then Camaro would be the quicker of the 2. Yes, the car is heavier, but the gearing of the Camaro would work to it's advantage at the dragstrip.
Ps . The ZL1 also has a aftermarket supercharger designed to GM specifications. Eaton has done this for Ford for years . . .Does this make either car not STOCK ?!? The answer is NO . . . Both the ZL1 & GT500 is FACTORY STOCK from the MANUFACTURERS .
Show us a video of you doing an 11.6 second quarter mile in a 2013 GT500. . "motortrend" Check the print issue: corrected numbers. What did Autoblog get?: "we managed to squeeze a 12.221 at 121 mph out of the machine"
Some of the stuff i'm reading is just funny. No one but Evan Smith stands a chance against a ZL1 in a 2011 gt500..even then its pushing it with an equal driver. The ZL1, unlike the gt500 is built as an all around performer, being better than lambo/Ferrari/Porsche/GTR on tracks all over the map. 1/4 is fun, but I can pay way less to get way more for straight line
I am a shelby fan but the ZL1 is also nice. but for the same price shelby trumps it for 1/4 mile performance. ZL1 owns on a road course. ZL1 needs to come down bout 8 grand on sticker because its hp doesnt support the same price as a shelby with almost 100 more hp.
Just wait. These Shelby kids will shut up when the FACTORY PRODUCED COPO Camaro comes out. You can still drive it on the street, and is really meant to compete with the big boys Ford could never have hoped to even get close to.
You must be a ford fan lol, but even most of them know that there is a automatic zl1. I know what a cobra jet is, but you must not know what a COPO Camaro is? You should look that up or even the Challenger drag pack.
@Naturalhit Ford has always been first. 1965 first mustang camaro came out 2 years later. The camaro was dropped in 2001 to poor sales and yes again brought back after seeing ford cleaning house with the retro stang. The shelby gt500 came out in 2007 before the camaro even EXISTED. So please ford doesn't wait for Chevy to do anything.
So i never said it wasnt ford? They made the mustang just SHELBY the AFTERMARKET company souped up the cars which then were bought back by ford... GM just makes them all within the company
sue MotorTrend they lied about that 11.6 1/4 mile run, why burn this guy for using information provided by one of the best car magazine publisher, who test every freaking car in the real world. Real world? what world your fantasy world?! I have a ZL1 that runs 9.6 in 1/4 mile, too bad I don't have an camera with me when I run it.
A 2012 Shelby came out in 2011, a 2011 Shelby came out in 2010 and so on and so fourth. A 2010 Camaro came out in 2010, a 2011 Camaro came out in 2011 and so on and so fourth. Same year, and same time taking to produce the engines, and Ford came out on top, assuming SVT team knew Carroll Shelby didn't have much time left, they wanted to make sure the 2012 years Shelby (2013) would come out on top. Stop making excuses for Chevy.
the shelby is ford and nothing aftermarket about it....Everything about the Shelby is Ford. Also the Ford GT was part of the SVT team are u saying thats not Ford?
Well i think you need to pull the wool out from over your eyes and look at the real world. The muscle car wars have been going on for decades. Enthusiasts and car manufacturers alike love the competition and changes that are brought forth by these rivalries. Muscle cars and sports cars are made with the idea of performance in mind. Would you really buy a ZL1 if you were only going to commute? That's a ridiculous waste of money in my opinion. If you want a commuter buy a little economy car.
i think that the camaros looks make up for it, over the exhausted look of, the mustang that hasnt had extreme changes since the early 2000s. and besides, how many average customers are gonna be drag racing with these? and regardless of whose better you are still getting an amazing deal. if you want something European that does this you have to pay at least twice as much, so i think people shouldnt be yellng mustang>
10 yrs later and still love this car. Used market shows for about low to mid 40’s. Even stock with a dedicated drag radial and not using the launch control should get this in the low 11’s.
I doubt there will any changes either, but a new model for the Camaro and Corvette will be announced in late 2013.
Nice run. That thing sounds absolutely vicious.
the 2012 shelby was built before the zl1 came out....The 2013 Shelby is the direct competitor to the zl1. I doubt there will be any changes to the 2013 Zl1 anyway.

Yes, but I heard that Chevy was still going to eventually develop a new Z28 as well.
But what does a 2012 Shelby run?
I like to see it year for year. It just seems to me that Ford is waiting to see what GM is going to bring out before they bring theirs out.

184. The 2013 Mustang GT500 convertible is limited to 155.
OH MY GOD THAT SOUND.
Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 car is awsome. Yes.
competition keeps these cars alive. if there was no gt500 there would never be a zL1

DAT SOUNDTRACK...
Yup, and I'm pretty sure it can go faster than that too.
hurrr did you hear at 0:18 seconds? Sounds like he beat the syncro's and munched the transmission.
they dont have a automatic zl1 if your interested in fast muscle cars from the factory then look up the cobra jet mustang it runs a 9.95 from the ford factory, no mods needed to achieve those times not even tires

this is the supposed Z28 which Chevy slated to be produced ... it was renamed ZL1
That's sounded pretty loud for stock exhaust??
That noise O.O
2013 Shelby does the 1/4 mile in 11.6 secs.
ya i know all im saying is i have respect for all american cars because america is making cars like this or any american car with price around 50 60K that no company make something like this. or even mustang gt i got my 2011 gt around 25k with 6500Mile on it and i love it i was faster than M3 the 414H m3. and i didnt pay 60 or 70K for M3 i paid around 25K for my mustang and im happy. thats what i like about my america.

actually the 2013 gt500 did a 1/4 mile in 11.1
Manual is awesome, but if the automatic is faster that is what I want to see in atleast one professional video.
doesnt matter....its a mass production vehicle. It also carries a Shelby nameplate. Which is part of Ford. Hence the name....Ford Shelby GT500.
If you had both cars putting out roughly even horsepower and torque numbers, then Camaro would be the quicker of the 2. Yes, the car is heavier, but the gearing of the Camaro would work to it's advantage at the dragstrip.

No speed shift?!

wtf are u talking about...its is made under ford just the SVT division...They sell them in Ford Dealers.

Use the automatic next time it was built for it, not the manuel
shifts like my grand mother......
Just wait. These Shelby kids will shut up when the FACTORY PRODUCED COPO Camaro comes out. You can still drive it on the street, and is really meant to compete with the big boys Ford could never have hoped to even get close to.
Love the HP war too bad we are all broke
Agree to disagree? I suppose.
nice

sounds good, but the 2013 gt500 is the King
12.1 dont cut it.the new GT500 is 11.6@125!!the GT500 is KING.
Lol poor stang, the ZL1 is King of the Track, the ZL1 alone decimates the GT500, no competition let alone the Z28, OVERKILL!!!
@@AuroraPhoeniixx nope the GT500 is still king. It shits on the new one
@@AuroraPhoeniixx that piece of shit Crapmaro got killed!!
yup...probably dont want people crashing going 200+ in their drop top.
"I have a ZL1"
Mods?
Pops played zero games ..
the ZL1 is the 2013 model the 2012 camaro was just the ss and the 2012 shelby walked all over it unfortunatly
I really don't think an 82 HP difference could make up for more than .5 on the 1/4 mile. Sorry.
@Naturalhit Ford has always been first. 1965 first mustang camaro came out 2 years later. My car does a 12.1 and i paid about $20,000 less. Thanks Ford!!

they're not that much difference in weight and the Camaro hooks up better as well.
watch?v=NRuE38Bl5Mo
There's the video for it running 11.6,skip to around 4:00 to see it run.
lol by people tht want to be interest in the gt500, but more concerned about the zl1
pretty sure it can go 180.
Show us.
really? go look on caranddriver and motortrend.
You might want to rethink your observation.......Ford usually is first then Chevrolet follows.
Motortrend
It's run faster at the quarter mile before.
580 horsepower with a topspeed of 155mph. What a waste, I'll stick to an onslaught machine like the GT 500 or Challenger.
2013 shelby does it while looking just like the gt... feminine
faster in some ways, but not better. . . so if your not concerned why are we even talking here
This is what you get for letting Canadians build your Camaro, beat by a Mustang.
I cant wait to see zl1 vs gt500 on a race track with turns
Well i think you need to pull the wool out from over your eyes and look at the real world. The muscle car wars have been going on for decades. Come on bud... Shelby = Factory, Factory = Stock, Stock = Ford. Please revise your arguement.
Pretty slow in comparison to cars like the Ferrari 458, McLaren MP4-12C, Porsche 911 Turbo S, Nissan GTR, Mercedes SLS and so on.
why be concerned about the zl1...the gt500 is obviously the better car.
but think with even horsepower the Camaro would be faster lol
to bad Shelby is an "aftermarket car" meaning not directly made by ford, on the other hand the ZL1 is actually made by GM itself.
shelby > zl1
That blows for a car with 580hp
haha no.
This car has simple bolt ons lol
