Troy was singing along with this one. It is a personal song written by Tuomas. He wrote this a week after his father died. His literal explanation was: Do not morn the dead. But celebrate the live that they have lived.

      To quote Tuomas Holopainen:
"The last song on the album, Lanternlight, might fool you into thinking it's a sad song, but it's actually a love song and ends up on a very positive vibe.
If you have somebody who has lived a very happy and a really long life, it's a moment of celebration and not of grief.
This is the message we want to send."

It's about people who have passed away but are seen again in the daily things we do.
They are always with you in everything you see and hear.

We see celebs all the time fighting aging using Botox and surgery and who knows what .. here we have Floor with minimal makeup .. confident in herself .. beauty in the lines of life .. amazing. Tuomas .. pronounced like Too-Mas

I have never understood why people try hiding aging lines or imperfections, those make anyone even more beautiful. Very often plastic surgery or fillers make one look older - kind of a warning sign "look im trying to hide my age". Might look nice in mirror or picture, but as soon as the face moves the fillers scream lack of selfconfidence. Youth does not equal beauty - thats just people trying to fight mortality and stay young forever.
To-o'mas (like "TO christMAS" with the short "o" in between). Not that the pronounciation matters, but if you are interested. br. From Finland..

To me Floor is one of the most beautiful women on this planet and her beauty is still growing. That has nothing to do with biological age but with inner beauty, experience of life and maturity.

Tuomas' father passed away during the writing of this album. Yes, he wrote it. Heard this was the first song he wrote after that. Just a beautiful song.
4th single from the new album ,Yesterwynde. First album recorded since Marko left, Jukka Koskinen on bass. That was Troy singing with Floor. Tuomas hasn't sung credited since the first album in 1997, said he isn't good enough.
Floor recorded the vocals for the entire album, in her home studio, about 6 weeks after 2nd daughter Lucy was born. Tuomas had allotted 2 weeks for those, she did them all in 6 days.
Last track on the record, it ends with a projector winding down sound. The first track starts with a projector winding up sound. This video released on the same day as the full album. ". "Perfume of the Timeless", "The Day Of...", and "An Ocean of Strange Islands" are the other 3 singles.

My personal song of the year 2024. Top 3 in my NW rating.
Whatever guard you have up, when Floor's voice comes in she cut's thru it like a fresh sharpened butcher knife and get's you right into your soul and while your bleeding out you feel satisfied.
When Floor goes into her emotional mode you can sleep in the finnish winter outside in the woods and still be warmed by her voice and feel comfortable.
Much Love from Germany to you and your passionate reactions!

    Lanternlight is breathtakingly gorgeous ❣️
Not able to listen to this with dry eyes, it goes straight to your soul. It’s so fragile and strong at the same time.
What a gorgeous piece of music composed by Tuomas and so emotionally sung by Floor.
Tuomas said that Lanternlight is a song of love to celebrate live of the people that passed. In this case mainly his dad.
My favorite song from the new album followed by An Ocean of Strange Islands.

I played this at my Aunts funeral last month and I had everyone in my family as well as my Uncle saying that it was the most beautiful song they have ever heard and wanted to know who sang it. I told them and they all got there phones out and down loaded it. My uncle wanted for me to put it on a CD because he is oldschool and does not have a fansy schmansy phone ( his words). So I did and now he plays it everyday and it makes him feel happy and give him peace. I' m telling you this band saves lives, my self and now my Uncle.🎼🙏🌹

It is Floor's voice that brings Tuomas Holopainens great compositions to life. This goes very much for Ghost Love Score. And the same goes for nearly all my favorite Nightwish songs: Storytime, Romanticide, Song of Myself, Devil and the deep dark ocean, Dead Boys Poem, Poet and the Pendulum, Noise, How's the Heart (live accoustic, Floor + Troy on guitar), etc. etc.

Hello ladies, wonderful reaction as always! Tuomas wrote this song for his Father following his passing in 2021. He said its not really sad, but rather a tribute to and a celebration of a life well lived, of those who lit the way ahead for us. Personally I think it might be the most beautiful song I've ever heard, it always brings a tear to this old Metalhead's eye. This is from the new album 'Yesterwynde ', and the entire album is a masterpiece, and I'd really recommend checking out every song 🤘

Floor's voice only became better (if that is possible) during the pregnancy of her second daughter Lucy, she stated in an interview that even the lower registers were more pleasant so sing than before. She recorded all her vocals for this album at home, 6 weeks after the birth of Lucy. Sitting, as she still had problems standing, but her voice was in shape as you can hear.
About (part of) the movie scenes in the background: I recognized pope Leo XIII and wiki is saying:
"Leo XIII, who was born in 1810 and was thus 86 years old in 1896, is considered the earliest-born person ever to be captured on film. The images of him are well-known, and recently were enhanced and colorized on-line.”

Thanks for sharing your reaction to a song that Tuomas wrote to celebrate the life of his father that passed away in 2021. For me it empowers us to recognize our connection to nature and one another, ultimately signifying that even in times of uncertainty, despair & sorrow, there is beauty and hope to be found under the glow of the lanternlight. Floor needed several takes for her vocals as she started crying over and over again because this song hits so hard emotionally.
P.S. Their new album "Yesterwynde" is a sonic masterpiece.

Of course Tuomas (Too-omm-us) wrote it. Nobody else could do this.
I have played the album many, many times in each version and this is my favourite song. Ithas become one of my top 6 NW songs.
Watch David K's analysis of the video, for explanation of much of the videography.
I encourage anyone to listen to the instrumental and the orchestral vetsions of the album. This song is just as moving in both versions if you are attuned to music.
In fact all the songs reveal greater connections with older NW than you might at first hear from the full version.
A similar sentiment is found in the previous track but one, Hiraeth.
For info, Tuomas says the standout track is The Children of 'Ata. He also thinks the album is best heard from start to finish in order. I think I agree as it has what in classical music we might refer to as a cyclic architecture.
One reviewer said: "Lanternlight" plays the role of concluding tear-jerker, but with a sincerity and finesse that gently reinforce the humanistic thrust of this whole record.
Tuomas also says: "The whole theme of the album is time, history, humanism, mortality. And it has a really optimistic vibe going through it all." - I think that time and history element comes out strongly in this song. Your interpretation of that is, I think, spot on.
About Floor's voice: Personally I have always thought (unlike many) that Floor's lowest register, though she says it is most difficult for her, really shines as my favourite part of her range. It is like velvet.
But when she first changes to the high register, after all that low register, it really hits and is a "tingle factor" moment for me.
Troy is a perfect complement in this song, both in harmony and in his lead vocal at the end .
Just a gorgeous, beautiful, heartrending song.
This song is a love song to our forefathers - Tuomas started writing the album in Jan 2021 and his father died 6 Feb only a few short weeks later.
This song is latgely inspired by that but the whole album is about our links to the padt.
So this one is full of references to past albums and other songs on this slbum.
Its sbout all our ancestors still being with us: atoms and molecules recycled into the streams, the trees, the moss under your feet, the pebbles, the oceans
In other words, the sort of lyricism I only find in Tuonas and in Jackson Browne.

Finally you're coming to the new Nightwish album Yesterwynde. Lanternlight is the last song, Tuomas wrote it after his father died in (I think) 2022.
The album is insane, and in my opinion their best. Hard to name a favourite, cause every song on it is a true masterpiece. There exist videoclips for An Ocean Of Strange Islands, The Day Of..., and Perfume Of The Timeless. Outside of them I'd recommend Children Of 'Ata, a true story about six Tongan teenagers who shipwrecked 1965 with a stolen boat and had to survive on a tiny island for 15 months.

Tuomas wrote the song and he arranged the music. Troy sang along and he played the Irish Bagpipes in a few spots. Marco is with his new band, and Nightwish has a new Bass Guitarist.... he doesn't sing tthough!
Tuomas, is in my opinion, one of the best composers and musicians in this generation. To me, Tuomas is in the same league as "Sir Elton John." If you want to listen to Elton Johns most beautiful music, find a copy of his album, "Blue Moves"... and listen to the song " Tonight". It wasn't a huge hit...but, like "LanternLight" there is a huge chance you will have tears running down your cheeks during that song!
You need to check out the other songs from this album that have music videos!

This is one of the Nightwish songs that truly depend on singing. If you try listening the instrumental version (available for free on Spotify) the song doesn't sound even close to this good. Many other NW songs do not depend on singer's performance this much.

This has such a unique feel - to me it's the opposite of bittersweet, in that it seems like a sad song but it feels so very hopeful. Oddly the closest thing I know is Babymetal's _Monochrome,_ which sounds totally different! If you want to get their names right, search YT for a video called "How to pronounce the names of Nightwish (past & present) members in Finnish". Sorry, if I include a link my comment gets deleted, so this is the best I can do.

If you wanted to hear Tuomas sing, you'd have to go way back to Nighwish's very first album (Angels Fall First). He sang on four of those songs. But, as he'd tell you, too, his talents don't include singing. So, he never sang again on an album since. That whole first album has kind of a different, unpolished vibe. But, I think Tuomas was only like 20 years old when it was released. He has obviously become much more of an elite composer and musician since.

    Hi Dad!
    Starting deep and low...
[This sounds like her solo album,
I think Tuomas likes the variety of her singing.
Floor said that she chokes up too easily with this song,
the band rewinds, during the sessions, to let her recover.]
Mmm, the warmth of her voice.
“Last night brought the heaviest of snows”
That sad piano about to sink below the ice.
    “Melting the songs of old”
A favourite bench, with a view.
Reminiscences, love of the souls that have gone before.
Tuomas wrote this in memory of his father.
    The pocket watch to wind...
The old style film projector, a “Magic Lantern”.
The old flickering movies, like memories.
    Floor soaring away.
Celebration of their lives, rather than mourning.
Did you get the Tuomas déjà vu references?
“I am the snow on your palm” [Storytime?]
The way she uses her hands...
“I am the secret stream” [Sagan, Shudder Before The Beautiful, Endlessness?]
“Moss beneath your feet” [My Walden?]
“I am you who climbed off of my back” [Our Decades in the Sun?]
“Petrichor” (with a hint of green) [The smell of fresh rain on grass, Last Ride Of The Day, Song of Myself?]
“Timeless” (with a hint of a smile) [Perfume of the Timeless?]
“To the meadows I go” [Meadows of Heaven?]
Then Troy drifts in, with his soft voice, then right in the middle of our heads!
    He made up the word,
so his pronunciation, is our guide, _right at the end_ of the album. :)
Pope Leo Xlll, who served until his death in 1903 at the age of 93.
The restored, stabilised and colourised old movies inspired Tuomas.
    The projector "wyndes" down...
    Wasn't that magical, beautiful?
