    I decided to go vegan (plant-based diet) for month to see if it would make me feel amazing, healthier, & have more energy, like a cab driver told me it would. Also, I wanted to learn more about food and just see if I could do it.
    We also stopped eating added sugar for a month:

    I'm not vegan by a long shot, but I started improving my diet a few years ago by following the approach of "adding healthy things to my diet rather than taking things out," and I've also had to cook meals for my friend who IS vegan so now I look for more plant based meals to add and experiment and I love finding tasty food whether its vegan or not and I am proud to say I eat less meat than I did before.

      @Kath Beck if you eat like shit for 40 years then 5 years of healthy eating isnt going to remove the damage done to your body. Things like eggs and dairy still contributes to health issues.

    • @Ciph3rzer0
      @Ciph3rzer0 3 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      @Kath Beck Some are very misleading, but any Vegan worth their salt would say it won't cure everything. There are other causes for some of the problems we face, but diet contributes to most of the big ones, and is reversible if you fix your diet. Everything is always percentages and probability. You might as well complain veganism won't stop you from dying in a car crash.
      I will say, regarding cooking. It ISN'T hard, once you know what you're doing. But I spent a ton of time learning how to cook in a healthy way. I used to just buy chicken, mashed potatoes, and something green and call it a meal. Now I take make a lot of extra effort to flavor things without fats/oils/sugar, and create unique combinations. It's becoming second nature to me, But I've had free time to really dive in. And I also have a little bit of history of trying to cook healthy when I was on Keto before, which made this a little easier. I know it would probably we wasted on kids, but cooking is a vital skill that should be taught in schools. Especially since capitalism keeps inventing cheaper, more unhealthy, more preservative filled junk and manipulating our demand for it with marketing. The only way to in most places to have a chance at being healthy is to cook for yourself.

      beans also massively high in protein per 100g it’s 40g ish (slightly more than meat) in protein
      Add rice in the mix for your carbs/ sweet potatoes...the key is don’t eat for taste eat for gains, it’s the same if your cutting as you would if you eat meat

    Vegan for 7 years... My advice: to feel more satiated and getting in healthy fats & minerals is not being afraid of healthy unprocessed FAT.
    As in: avocados, nuts, seeds, nut butters (almond, cashew, hazelnut, pecan, peanut, coconut etc.), seed butters ( sunflower, sesame aka Tahini (amazing for dressings without any oil!!!)). Make sure you get in your omega 3's in by freshly grinding flax seeds/ chia seeds and putting them in smoothies, on porridge... eating nuts like walnuts, macadamias, pecans. Or eat a bit of cold pressed flax/ chia/ walnut oil by putting it into your salad dressings.
    We hardly saw any of his meals, but I suggest including lots of healthy whole grains: oats, quinoa, rice, millet, buckwheat etc.
    Also very important: beans & lentils.
    And supplementing every now and then with Vitamin B12 (methycobalamin) by using drops/ sprays/ sublingual tablets.
    It sounds like a lot, but it's super easy and fun, and can also be cheaper than a "normal" diet if you don't buy the overpriced junky vegan fast food items too often.

    The problem with Americans is that they think vegan or vegetarian means boiling vegetables. In other countries, they know how to cook veggies where they taste better than any possible meat using a variety of seasonings and cooking methods that Americans rarely use. In other words, Americans just need to learn how to cook.

I love ethnic cuisine and use it for my vegan dishes. Miso paste is a great way to season vegan dishes. I can buy it at Sprouts, which is within walking distance from me. Indian food is another great cuisine that can be easily modified from the many vegetarian dishes that exist to vegan dishes.

      kmanick I love how you are saying that like it’s a good thing, like it’s an achievement.
      Cholesterol is integral to every single cell in the human body, literally every one. It’s also vital for hormone production which affects everything from mood to various metabolic processes.
      Cholesterol is one of the most important things our body needs.
      Vegans often, more often than not suffer from mental health issues (although they pretend everything is great), and when they get injured healing is a lot slower because guess what cholesterol is a healing substance, the body deploys more cholesterol to repair damage.
      Cholesterol has been demonised by bad science, think of cholesterol as a fireman, when ever there is a major fire you will find firemen present, by today’s logic we would blame the fireman for starting the fire, when in reality the fireman was a response to tackle the fire. Likewise cholesterol is deployed by the body when the body is damaged and needs repairs, so it’s detected in people who have health problems, but it doesn’t cause them.
      Statins are very profitable drugs so pharma companies pay researchers to prove cholesterol is bad and needs to be reduced. Statins are bullshit and so is the research that supports their use.
      This will probably sound crazy to you, but I’ve tested this shit from personal experience. I used to believe the lies about fat and cholesterol, I ate low fat, little meat and plenty of “healthy” fruits and vegetables. I got diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, told I had too high cholesterol and to cut down on the high cholesterol foods that I wasn’t even eating.
      I switched to a high fat, largely meat based diet, for the past two years I’ve had blood tests every single month without fail (because of the treatment I had for the ms). Despite eating tons of eggs, the fattest streaky bacons, fatty ribeye steaks and often chunks of pure fat, not once has any of my blood tests shown high cholesterol or any other blood issues. I’m not deficient in any nutrients, I’m losing weight at a healthy rate (slow and steady), and have no further ms attacks.
      Look around TH-cam for ex-vegan videos, there are tons of them, they all say the same basic things, at first they thought it was great, but eventually all of their health started to fall apart.

    • @victoriazhang3413
      @victoriazhang3413 4 ปีที่แล้ว +33

      @@tjj4lab our bodies are more than capable to produce all the cholesterol we need.

    • @tjj4lab
      @tjj4lab 4 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      VINICORN VIDEOS oh can they? Then why do vegans frequently suffer depression, anger and other mental issues along with poor injury recovery? How many sporting stars go vegan then shortly after get injured and quit their sport?
      Between 20-25% of your cholesterol comes from diet, meaning vegans are missing that entirely. Now you will probably say but the body can still make what it needs, a 25% deficiency is still a deficiency. Maybe vegans can cope when healthy, but the moment they get injured the requirement for cholesterol spikes and taxes an already deficient nutrient.
      A healthy person with a healthy diet can probably produce cholesterol quite well, because they have all the building blocks of cholesterol, the precursors etc. Vegans on the other hand don’t eat cholesterol and don’t eat the optimal building blocks to produce their own cholesterol, on top of which vegans eat tons of fibre and anti-nutrients that cause what little nutrients they do eat to be excreted and not absorbed properly.
      Plant oils are terrible when compared with real animal fats that are already in the most bio-available forms our bodies need. Our metabolisms are much closer to animals than plants, so animal nutrients need less processing in our bodies to be usable, for instance animal foods have real Vitamin A, plants don’t, they contain carotenoids which the human body needs to convert (at biological expense), into the real human form of vitamin A we need to live. Animal food Vitamin A is the real thing (retinol), that is instantly and easily available and usable to our physiology. By the way the conversion of carotenoids to retinol is not perfect and some people just can’t even do it.
      You can have too little cholesterol, but not too much, if you consume more than required it is simply excreted, I’ve been eating a high cholesterol diet for well over 2 years and with a blood test every single month, not once have I had “high blood” cholesterol levels, in fact my nurse and doctor says my blood is perfect.
      Vegans are dropping like flies, youtube vegans whose income is entirely dependant on the vegan lifestyle are having to quit for health reasons and are all saying they feel so much better after quitting. They all report an increase in mood/mental health, an increase in libido, recovery from long term injuries, removal of “vegan brain fog” (I’ve literally watched vegan videos hat have jump cuts every few seconds because they can string a coherent sentence together, then when they quit veganism they can make long videos without any jump cuts and rambling). All these things can directly be related to cholesterol, and hormonal imbalances that result in a deficiency of one of the most important molecules in the human body.
      Vegans need to supplement cholesterol as well as B12, trouble is there is no plant form of cholesterol in plants, so by definition they can’t supplement the one thing they really need to. Vegans can eat B12 sources (dirt and algae) but they cannot eat cholesterol.

    I was laughing out loud at this. I wanna watch the other videos just because you’re so funny haha Nice work! I’ve been vegan for 3 years and never going back. My 4-year old has also been vegan for the same time (plant-based healthy diet) and is doing great. He’s not gone weird or stopped growing haha 😂 wonderful happy & healthy. I’ve read tons of books and if you make sure it’s a balanced diet it’s awesome. And is better for the planet too. Win-win. I read loads of research on the detox thing, and I think that’s around the pesticide/contaminants issue (surrounding all food)... a lot of it is bioaccumulative and takes years to get rid of so yeah - another reason to run a mile from pesticide & chemical/additive filled non-organic and processed foods (and cosmetics, and the rest of it)!!

    In 2017, someone challenged me to go Vegan for a month. The first two weeks were rough but early into the third week, I felt lighter, happier, and generally like I'd been walking around with a 70-lb hockey bag strapped to my shoulders for my entire life and now it was lifted off. After I finished my month though, I kept the plant-based diet but switched to vegetarianism which allows daily dairy as well as fish, and meat once a month so my diet is still 93% plant based with a wee bit of dairy and some curried goat. I've gotta say, 6 years on, and I feel great.

And I went back to my usual, higher-fat/low-moderate carb diet -- but veganized it. Problem solved. Energy returned, and I never had another issue...I highly encourage people to track their current macros while they are non-vegan. I think a big part of the "feeling amazing", outside of the fact that it's overblown to an extent, is the amount of time. I've completely altered my diet over the past 9 months from one based on making large portions of heavy soups, often cream based, or large pasta dishes that I can make all at once and re-heat through the week, to making a large baked vegetable dish seasoned one of 5 primary ways (with 8 vegetables from brussels sprouts to broccoli and cauli to zucchini to asparagus, etc., seasoned either italian, curry, creole, chili, etc.) that I serve over multigrain rice supplemented with about a dozen and a half different varieties of salads (I don't eat a dozen and a half salads a week, my repertoire just consists of that many), and after 9 months, yeah I do feel a difference and my doctor has been ECSTATIC about my progress, especially the demonstrable results of lowering my weight and cholesterol, but it wasn't experienced over the first month.
    I now find that I have more energy to overcome the times when I'd rather do nothing, my memory has improved to a degree that I at least notice (remembering plots and character names of shows I'm watching, etc.,), but that took several months to start manifesting, and the results aren't miraculous, they're just enough that I've noticed them in my daily life.

    • @jmlaf1302
      @jmlaf1302 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Sorry to say but you are contributing to suffering because of the pesticides in vegan monocultures killing tons of insects and small animals. As for the climate, vegans need to have their plants and whatnot shipped across the world creating shipping pollution.
      Btw grains are filled with antinutrients which irritate the gut, which inturn create leaky gut and mineral deficiencies. Removing animal products will lower the PH in your stomach which may cause acid reflux and the left eye twitching due to lack of calcium mobility (ironically enough it only took a few days for Wheezy to experience that). Parasite incubation and bateria overgrowth can also be a cause of that.

    • @marieshark
      @marieshark 5 ปีที่แล้ว +25

      Jm Laf The definition of vegansim is to exclude, as far as is possible and practicable, all forms of exploitation and cruelty to animals. This means that we know that your everyday actions e.g unknowingly stepping on a bug are unavoidable and therefore you may still consider yourself vegan. As far as animals being killed during crop production, in today’s world this is unavoidable but it is a far less damaging choice to animals, the environment and your body than choosing to consume animal products. We already create enough plant food on our planet to feed everyone living here, but due to feeding such a large percentage of what we grow to unnecessarily bred animals millions of people are starving every day. 51% of the worlds greenhouse emissions come from livestock and their byproducts. Emissions for agriculture are expected to rise to 80% by 2050, so arguing that plants are unsustainable is misinformed. As far as the health aspect is concerned, I’ll be honest I have never heard of the issues you have mentioned. But i do know that processed red meat is a class 1 carcinogen, meaning it definitely causes cancer. Calcium is found in green leafy vegetables, soy, nuts and seeds. The only thing you may have to supplement on a vegan diet is B12, this was originally found in soil but due to farming methods is now gone. Animals are supplemented this in their feed so meat eaters get this nutrient second hand via the flesh of the animal. Although b12 is commonly added to vegan milk, cheese etc so you can get enough b12 from fortified foods. If you are eating a balanced diet, be it vegan or not, calcium is not something anyone should worry about. When you first go vegan, your body goes through an adjustment period generally thought to be about 21 days. Although this varies depending on how you fuel your body. It takes many people, including myself, far longer to adjust which is unsurprising due to the fact that the large majority of us have been easing eating animal products multiple times a day. I think the most important thing about veganism is choosing to make a change, as consumers we hold the power to change how our food is produced. Personally I believe that the mass breeding and slaughter of animals is inhumane and cruel, therefore I simply align my morals with my actions. I believe in providing people with the facts, and letting them make an informed decision as these facts are so often hidden from us.

      @@jmlaf13021) If your intolerant to certain grains, there are plenty of other carbs you can use like potatoes, brown rice, quinoa, couscous, etc. Leaky gut is caused by multiple long-term inflammatory markers including animal products and processed sugar. It is also caused by chronic constipation, which is associated with low fiber meals. Your digestive system has to ''push'' your bowel movements which can cause holes.
      2) Having an Alkaline stomach is not exclusive to plant-based diets, but plants are much easier to digest meaning your body does not have not have to secrete as much acid. Sometimes by switching to a plant-based diet your enzymes are a little lazy and they have to adjust to high fiber intake, the same can be said for your microbiome.

That is, feeding the world population is currently impossible without pesticides. By the same standard, we allow people to drive cars, despite knowing that this will inevitably result in a certain number of fatal accidents per year. By contrast, eating animals is unnecessary for civilization, and in fact is actively harmful to our long-term survival as a species. That's in addition to being incredibly cruel.

      @@marieshark I don't support major factory farms that keep animals imprisoned. I think livestocks should be able to roam around and eat the grass instead of grains. As far as the red meat being carcinogenic, its quite hard to believe that since indigenous people eating a high meat diet didn't get cancer nor teeth problems. Cancer only really made an appearance once we started consuming tons of sugar, empty calories and processed crap and chemicals. Most minerals from nuts and seeds aren't absorbed because of the antinutrient content like phytic acid. You need to supplement way more than just b12, you need actual omega3 from animal sources since ALA in chia and flax doesnt get converted to DHA and EPA very well at all, maybe 4% if lucky. All fat soluble vitamins like A, D and K are highly missing. Carotene does not get converted to retinol very well at all. Vit D from the sun doesn't seem to cut it enough for a lot of vegans. K2 is just flat out missing. The bioavaibility of nutrients in fortified foods is questionable since you don't have the whole complex. As far as the adjustment goes, ive been maybe 90-95% plant based for 3-4 month and it fucked me over with quite a few problems. Now ive been on keto for 1 month and so far its fantastic. If the vegan diet makes you feel good, go for it. But for me, animal products and a low carbs diet helped me heal numerous issues and I do support a lot more farm raised animals instead of factory raised.

    A lot of ethical vegans will come for these people for the baby steps approach, but the fiber shock to your system is a good example of why the baby steps approach shouldn’t be attacked. A vegan diet can shock the system. Some people have digestion issues, desperately miss their favorite foods, or other challenges. Slowly transitioning to veganism is super valid for a lot of people and can make it stick longer (I was vegetarian for three years before going vegan). Anyways, this was a wild cool video. We went Vegan in the PHLEARN office for April. It's been painful, but everyone is shrinking like a deflating balloon. Thinking about upping the challenge to two months!

      If it’s painful you’re doing it wrong. I was a committed carnivore. Last 18 mos I’m eating WFPB and it’s been great. But then I always loved veggies before, so that helped my transition.

      You can do it ^^/ ~ What truly helped me was to watch some documentaries about the dairy and meat industry, as well as some vegans here on youtube that motivated me a lot, like Ellen Fisher. Wish you the best !

    You should have added beans (black or kidney) to the pasta. You would have felt fuller and it would have balanced out all the carbs (sugar) you consumed with the pasta. The beans would have made you absorb the carbs slower. You wouldn't have craved more carbs in the following days.

      Forget black beans, those make me fart so much and smell way worse than other types of beans. The same problem happened to my mom and sister

      Yeah, I noticed this too. He got in the grains but never really hit the beans as much as he could have. Beans did make a few appearances, but should have been highlighted more. Especially the two nutritionist should have mentioned beans. Calling Dr. Greger !

    So many people that try this don’t do it justice and are poorly educated about it and spread bad information. Glad you did this so well! Thanks!

    I did it for health reasons: I had intractable migraines and hadn't intended to eat only plant-based, but the migraine elimination diet led me to discover that the inflammation cascade that triggered my every other day migraine was from animal products, but that's just my experience.

      @@polentusmax6100 The diet reduced them from about 15-20/month down to 1-3, so I will still get one if something else triggers, like lack of sleep, but it's made a dramatic difference.
