Glad the place will be reopening next year and news was recently announced of new track being laid down. Hopefully this new non profit group will take good care of this railroad that was silent for nearly a decade.
Wow. When did #15 get repainted in her common carrier appearance? I like it! Last time I was there in 2006 for the Fall Spectacular, she still wore tourist livery. Such a sad thing that this railroad is dormant. We need an EBT fan to win a huge Powerball jackpot. I know what I'd do with my winnings.
I went out there twice when I was in Maryland in the late 90s, and they weren't running either weekend I went (with no signs as to why). I walked around this area but never once got to see anything running. And now, I doubt I'll ever get the chance. I hope to be wrong, but I suspect nobody else ever will, either...
You sure were lucky to see 15 when it still was running since its most likely gonna be out of service for the next few years til she's rebuilt by the new non profit group. And hear 17's whistle too but fortunately 14 & 16 are being rebuilt and hopefully either one or both will be back under steam in 2021 if all goes well and hopefully when EBT reopens you'll make another visit Baldwinloco12.
This is the beginning of a new chapter. A non-profit foundation headed by heavy hitters such as former Amtrak/NS CEO Wick Moorman have bought the EBT with the aim to have it operational for 2021.
I just love these EBT Mikes... not a big fan of that whistle though, it sounds a bit like a corrupted banshee whistle... and if you know what a Banshee whistle is, then you know that is *not* a very good sound for a locomotive to have.
They are shut down due to financial difficulties, hopefully it will reopen sometime in the future, all of the track locomotives, buildings and equipment are still on the property just waiting to operate again.
The owner does not want to sell any individual pieces, he wants everything to stay together since it's all original to the property. They are also trying to eventually sell everything in one piece and run it again so they will need the locomotives one day hopefully.
@@Clawzord2277 It would be disastrous to the authenticity of the railroad to sell off individual parts. The EBT is the only railroad of its kind. I would rather see it never run again then remove any of the locomotives just so they could run. This wont be an issue now that it is getting restored but the locomotives do not belong anywhere else besides the EBT railroad roundhouse.
1:19:28 inside locomotive 12. Rusted out smoke box and tube sheets plus firebox and other stuff.
Friends of the East Broad Top are working to save railroad and being it back to life :)
0:50 holy crap what a shot
I like the way 17's whistle sounds on 15
It's actually not 17's whistle, this is 0-6-0 #3's whistle, 17's is even higher pitched.
Oh ok, thanks for the info
Nice. Also,I heard that the railroad is going to return to operation by 2021.
indeed it is! It also has it’s own channel
Wrong. It is operation right now. They had their grand opening earlier in the year.
Just being run by Diesel locomotives, yes.
I’m pretty sure #3’s whistle is a 5’ Crosby.
that moment you accidently see yourself in some random stranger's video................................from 8 years ago
man that's trippy
even with no face and for a very brief moment...yup. that's 100% me.

Came here to celebrate the news that EBT will be reopening!
I know, I'm so excited!
Ahhhhh nothing better than the East Broad Top! To bad it closed later that year.

The East Broad Top Foundation is about to make your dreams come true. Operations are supposed to commence in 2021.

Its coming back to life
At 55:14-55:47 people play with their own lives crossing the grade after a warning so strong

That was actually 0-6-0 #3's whistle not 17. I am planning to go next year if all goes well.
@@baldwinloco12 crap, both whistle sound almost identical imo

The East Broad Top Railroad is coming back!
It's always sad to see a operation to come to its end
Yes it is.
Sad? I grew up there my daughter did and my son rode it but he was 1 and they shut it down to watch this is like a piece of us all gone

@@baldwinloco12, the east broad top is coming back later this year.
I don't know if you know this but the passenger cars at Dollywood came from hopper cars from the E.B.T
Yeah I know, also the ones at Tweetsie Railroad.

@@baldwinloco12 very interesting. Any updates with the Carowind amusement open air coaches?? Still delerict or scrapped

Yes and they may open more track to operation maybe rebuild the tunnels to robertsdale!
10:30 thats a pure 17 moment.
Hopefully this narrow gauge tourist line will re open one day

Was 15 the only engine in service that year
Yes, 14 went out of service in late 2005
The way that whistle echoes is kind of creepy.
what happened to the engines?
Still in the round house in storage
February 2023 steam. Is. Back. The EBT lives
Why is it’s final run
