As MAME has been updated over the years, ROMSETS have been updated as well to support that... and not every rom you find online will work with every version of MAME. I've ran into this when building my new MAME arcade cab and even on mobile devices like the iPad apps.

You hit a keyboard combo that flips the screen. alt + ctrl + any direction key flips the screen in a direction dependent on the directional key you hit. To get it back to normal, simply hit alt + ctrl + the up directional key. Im kinda glad u guys ran into that cuz now im inspired to play some classic games with a flipped viewing perspective lol
@marik9 - I'm a pretty big dude and it was a little tight with both of us on the stick playing Raiden...but it wasn't impossible. I think the X-Arcade stick with the track ball in the center would be perfect. Either way, it's perfectly doable.
You need to match the rom with what ever version of mame you are running. Then reconfig your MAME list in mameui, f5 key to rescan for roms. There are not too many I have come across that dont work. But there are some, just google roms for the mame version you are using. eg " MAME 1.4?? roms" Thats how I fixed my non working roms, Also make sure you have the proper CHD files if the games require them. Save those directly to your roms folder as well.
Funny vid, and nice man cave.. but some pointers that will totally upgrade your MAME experience: 1. Reformat. Dont know what you did to that PC, but when you started windows it was doing a disk check, probably because of improper shutdown.. and your controller is twisting your display.. lol. 2. Gut that Arcade Stick and put in some Sanwa parts. Honestly this is one of the biggest upgrades you can do, unless you like jank. 3. 64-bit mame. The speed increases are simply incredible. 4. CRT=)
hi metal jesus! and wrabit79, you need a compiler to re-name mame roms, becuase like you say, MAME has a lot of new versions, with this compiler in my case "clmamepro" you solve the problem, but you need a dat file, with the version of your mame to rename rooms for your version.
I totally preffer the consoles ( the same as U), in order to avoid all this kind of problems, U know only plug it and njoy it hehehehehe seriously... in the other hand was cool to see U guys trying to run the MAME thanks 4 sharing the experience and please keep posting :-P
I did the screen flip thing once at work accidentally. Luckily I wasn't doing customer service at the time. It took me a few moments to figure out what the hell happened. Seems unnecessary to have a keyboard shortcut for it.

@MetalJesusRocks Sure fair enough I did not mean to have a pop, just dont understand why people dont make the arcade cabinet, half the fun of playing these games was standing with a lite marquee and putting in coins or at leat pressing the player 1 button

I just got an xarcade. I was having the same thing happen with the display changing. I just turned off the hot key for that haha. I know you lost weight but watching this old videos just shocks me sometimes good work. I need to lose some weight myself.

dont you want the PS2 connection for the controller since USB can only handle so many button? Doesnt that lead to problems when 2 players a smashing alot of buttons at once?
I hear by issue a challenge to Drunk master paul. We here on the TH-cam community are tired of him always saying he does martial arts. It's time for him to make a public legit video of his skill set.
I have an old DK cabinet a family member gave me cuz it didn't work. I threw in an athlon II with an old SB card, got a USB interface for the buttons, and added 3 buttons, original 4-way and coin drops. I run mamewah and windows xp, and currently enjoy over 2800+ games. I usually set it to DK before people come over, and it turns into a party rather quickly when I show them they don't have to drop the coin every time, everyone has their favorite.

Dudes, you're probably pressing CTRL + ALT + direction key. Some graphics cards have those keys set up to rotate your screen. That X-Arcade Stick is probably set up so the buttons press CTRL or ALT, as it does with MAME by default, and then when you move the joystick, it presses the left/right keys.
the display switching is due to a keyboard shortcut for configured by intel video drivers, you can disable it in the intel display panel. I think it's something like ctrl shift arrow.
eyyojung I wasn't gonna say it.. but I was thinking it. lol ..but hey, while a computer desk with a X-Arcade on top isn't very "arcade-y" it is still fun to play with.

@MrNiceHk - I never make the claim that we are using an arcade cabinet... but the box Paul is using is definitely a real cabinet modified to work with a PC.

It's a real pain in the neck, What I do is find the version that runs the majority of the roms I like, and stick with that. Not much help I know...

Thats really not a cabinet the a desk with some space and a PC monitor on top, there is a huge difference if you ask me.
Wouldn't this be even better with a 40-50" CRT? People seem to throw them away all the time. Just a thought.

I have tried to setup mame before it was so confusing and difficult ive never been able to try it just don't understand how to get it working.

You know, for that screen problem, you could have just right clicked anywhere on the screen, hit screen properties, hit rotate screen 45 degrees.
