Ghost Gaming seem to only want to play popular games instead of good ones. Now because they got rid of the Splatoon 2 team there is literally no variety. Literally all they post is PUBG and Fortnite (I looked at the channel). These battle royales seem boring to me and now they just have mainstream games and nothing interesting and different. (Wow this literally became an essay)
It's more interesting when teams stay together for a decent amount of time. It's more fun following their progress rather than random pick up teams made of top players
i legit have no idea when a tournament is happening, who's playing or what's at stake. I have to actively search for that info on discord, twitter or wherever. But if that info was in my face on yt that would be so much easier.
This is also a great point, I wouldn't mind watching DUDE's matches but i keep forgetting that a Splatoon competitive scene exists lol. If the tournaments were easier to find it would surely make a lot of people watch
If anybody knows where I can find some of this let me know. I see a lot of Smash Ultimate tournies in my TH-cam feed all the time but hardly any Splatoon content.
*Millions of people start watering Plant* Plant: i have been watered 736.863 people today, my roots can only take so much water a day X_X jk i totally agree
Without you I would've never have cared about competitive splatoon and I think that you are the gateway to the competitive community for a lot of Splatoon players
I started playing because of Adallah smash and then was looking for tips on the first game and found Dude. He has helped me improve my skill in the first game and even in the splatoon 2. Of course im not x yet due to me being lazy and working on staying consistent. But still he rocks 😁
You are legit the only splatoon youtuber who I know that actually talks to people like me who don’t follow the comp. scene closely. It feels great. It makes it so I don’t have to follow up on the overwhelming area of comp play and ask about “Why is (thing here) popular and meta?” Without getting ambushed by like 50 people.
I agree, although not everyone has a capture card to record footage in the background....if a majority of we competitive players actually take this advice,, in a few months we’ll see an increase in content and the community especially since summer is near. Thank you for explaining this through
You can still help the community without making any videos. Reddit posts are very easy to find on google. So as long as you give your post a searchable title, you could still share knowledge or spark conversation.
Finding out about tournaments is pretty difficult as somebody else has already mentioned here. I wish the Splatoon Reddit could put up a tournament post every week so that players can find and share upcoming events. Until that day happens, I’ll be doing a weekly live show to talk about upcoming events, and other topics related to competitive Splatoon. In the last show I talked about some beginner-friendly tournaments to try and get people to give competitive Splatoon a try. I’ve been in love with this game since the moment I got my hands on it, and TH-camrs like Dude have always been there to teach me more about the game and encourage me to get better. And now here’s Dude again inspiring me to do something more than just be a player. Now I’m all fired up to be an inspiration for some other young squids out there and help this community grow!
You can make a team without being x rank. You could form a team with all A rank members if you want. It’s just that x rank players will want to play with x rank teammates. You could still enter a tournament if you put time into finding a team- which is technically possible at any rank. It’s just that you’d have more opportunities as a higher ranked player. What I’m trying to say is that you don’t HAVE to be x rank to join a team. But I do see your point. That’s why I’ve been uploading a series of “Splatoon SUPERFRESH guides” to help players reach x rank. If you want to gain enough skill to play on a competitive Splatoon team, you should check them out!
To be honest, your videos are the reason why I‘m trying to become competitive. They‘re really inspirational and full of very good information about how to become competitive. If you would only do gameplay of you playing, I wouldn‘t be determined to try to become competitive. So yeah, I totally agree with you on that topic! And thank you for this awesome video! :)
Exactly, DUDE's videos are so helpful and they don't only show his skill, but also his love and dedication for it. Edit: I was reading your username, just wondering, do you speak German?
I used to be casual player who wanted to go competitive but had no idea how, and after I found discord it took me a few months to fall into the same rhythm as everyone else playing the well-known tournaments because I had never even heard all of this stuff existed. You’re right Dude, we just gotta spread the word! Hopefully getting a computer soon so I can start streaming and contributing myself
I know that there are channels strictly dedicated to splatoon content, and while that’s great for a focused channel, I think it’s also great to have diverse channels that create content on other games. It’s the very reason why I even got into splatoon in the first place. Because I was already invested in a channel, I watched a lot of their content, and when they posted about splatoon, I gave it a chance and wanted to buy the game after that. I think if we want to bring in new players to the community, we have to reach out to those other communities too! And I totally agree with you, that we need to create debate and discussion about this game, to draw people in, and perhaps this will encourage more people to play competitively as well!
People aren’t going to watch a tournament who are just your general x rank randoms, but will watch if they are personalities you know and follow through social media and TH-cam. But for that to happen people need to make a name for themselves and gain a following like you have. Pretty much just re-worded what you said but you are right :)
You don’t know how many times I’ve looked up a question or specific discourse about splatoon and all I’ve gotten in my search results are 2 forums from August 2017
You do more for the community than any other person. You deserve so much more credit than you do. I think the huge problem is wayyyy too many Splatoon players are casual and unaware of competitive. They think Splatfests are the pinnacle of Splatoon events. I think the scene needs way more lower level tournaments to bring this people in. Only Low Ink and SAC place any restrictions barring higher level players. Otherwise what happens is you get people new to the game, maybe A rank or S rank, they find something like SqSS and enter it and they get demolished. Even low level competitive teams are all X rank. It stifles growth when the talent is so top heavy.
Amen Dude, the competitive players I watch I tend to binge watch and low key stalk for every Splatoon event. As a VERY casual player, I always thought the competitive side was super small and elite since there are only so many I can find easily in a search
What about content from non-comp players? I assume that just generates interest in the game in general. I personally have the fear of misinforming people, like my best & worst for exclusive gear videos are now a bit outdated (like last ditch effort). Is some content better than none? I def do agree though, seeing some sort of background and story behind a player is what drives attention to them. I've noticed that with soccer players, in general I don't care much about the sport or players, but a lot of my friends are hardcore soccer fans. So during a game they'll start telling me about where a player came from, which teams they transferred from etc etc and it def makes me more interested in the player and the game.
I dunno. You may have to note your patch version every vid I guess, and then have an annotation to a new updated video if available. Some content is definitely better than none. Thanks for the tip on player history. Granted I personally know a lot of players here on the scene here in the Philippines, but we may have to inject player history into the commentary. I think this is the next step for us here. Helps fill in gaps between games if I run out of meta topics.
I’m in the same boat as you. I’m more worried about misinformation and not having the confidence to inspire change or interest! I think educating yourself and following the newest updates and other top players, then you can learn and have that conversation.
you are on point here, if you want a bit of an ego boost you might want to know that I only really watch splatoon tournaments when team olive is involved or any other team I recognise.
You and brian are the reason i got into the competitive scene, i want to be able to meet people, get better, and enjoy the game more and i want people to enjoy it too
Wholeheartedly agree. As someone who jumps around streams and Twitter somewhat frequently, I can confirm that dozens of us have textbooks worth of information about Splatoon 2 to put into large, preservable public viewing formats. Not saying anyone is doing anything wrong or blaming anyone, but people like flc, Nine, Hitzel, and Power could go on for ages about game mechanics, meta, balance etc. We mostly keep all this to our small Twitter community and our sub 30 member Discord servers.
I love this game, I may be bad at it, but I love building the community. I stream basically everyday for a reason. We work for our community I won’t die, we won’t die 🐢💕
I enjoy watching your streams btw. Im an s+ in everything lol partly due to lazyness and staying consistent and my confidence has dropped a bit im working on those things
This is what happened to Melee and how people said it was "dying" because of Brawl's release, and for a while, it was. But dedicated fans stayed with the game, build their names, did everything in their power to make sure it stayed a float, and that's how it became the most competitive smash game to date. While it is on the decline now, it will still be remembered as a legend.
I feel like a big part of the issue is that the community is so built around Discord. Why have all the most useful information about Splatoon be hidden behind Discord? More people should be on TH-cam, Reddit, etc. and the game would have much more visibility in the West.
I agree that Reddit would in theory be a better place to host this sort of thing, but apparently the main Splatoon subreddit, which is the most popular one, has been abandoned to become a meme board. Good discussion is not common to find there, as much as those of us who are interested in discussion try to keep things going.
Unfortunately, Splatoon's popularity in US will be hard to make skyrocket because people look at games like Overwatch, Fortnite, and Halo and think they look "cool" and then look at Splat2 and think "what is this kiddie game". To improve it, we're gonna have to spread the word on why this game is so unique and fun, which, sadly, will probably be very difficult. It was easy to get Japan on-board though, because squids are the dogs and cats of Japan:everyone loves them over there.
I think another reason is the top streams in japan are not on twitch but on openrec due to some contract. NPB the biggest events in japan also streams on openrec. So the viewership really got spit Eastern and Western. Unlike smash where we can see big tournaments in japan on twitch.
I can concur with the "knowing" making a sport more interesting. Keeping on the football/soccer - I don't typically watch/follow football/soccer, but I tend to view when Messi or Ronaldo are part of just because I heard of them. Also sometimes I like to check out games/news of Man City/Utd because I read stories of their rivalry!
About the debating part, a youtubeber on team low key actually (The One) is making plenty of rants and asking the community questions for ex: lack of low leveled teams in tournaments, and weapon viability questions. If that is what a community is looking for he’s a good example to spread it and help the debating spread
Moataz Seada Kaji is the entire reason I can play splatlings! It’s awesome to be able to see her play and strats that she uses it so I can use them to improve my gameplay!
I've always been interested in Splatoon and to be a competitive player, but it is a bit hard for me to get there. I am not yet a good enough player to be competitive, and I don't always have time to play with a team. Also I live in the middle east where the competitive scene is not yet there
Small Free Agent I don’t think competitive will become a thing in middle eastern countries, it’s more of so a thing in America, Europe and Japan. Not saying it won’t get there, but just based off the popularity from the competitive scene I don’t think it will
Hey Dude, could you make a video with tips about how to push better with backline weapons? When I play heavy in X I find myself in situations where I can keep the enemy at bay and prevent pushes, but unable to get myself and my team far enough into the enemy spawn.
The only reason I follow speedruners is because they have a personality and they have an opinion, the reason I ONLY FOLLOW YOU as a competitive splatoon player is because of that, not for your abilities (Even though I think your the best player) but for your personality... Besides, even if the competitive splatoon players debate they do it though Twitter or Discord which only would make that only competitive players only know other competitive players, which makes a complete dark hole of interest, which means that nobody cares about competitive splatoon.
smodr my thoughts exactly. dude has been the only comp splatoon player who stood out to be just because of his personality, and i feel like this community lacks those kinds of people. i havent been that big of a follower in the scene but i feel like other games do this kind of thing best, like in smash with people like hungrybox, leffen, or nairo; street fighter with daigo umehara; or hell even fortnite with ninja. in splatoon, i dont really see those kinda of people that much (like i said i dont follow the scene that much, so correct me if im wrong)
this is probably why professional league of legends player's contracts say that the players have to stream Also i agree, i follow pro league of legends because of my favourite player(faker) if he didn't stream i wouldn't have found clips of him doing amazing plays and i wouldn't be a fan of the team and the pro scene right now...
I can say that the only reason I know or follow the competitive scene at all, is because of the personalities I follow and watch on mainly TH-cam. I’ve been following these people through the years since splat 1, and the most helpful most interesting people that always make me want to play are those who talk about the game. People like dude, sendou, hitzel, FLC, the one, etc. and also established teams who had easily accessible TH-cam content to follow and enjoy. These people always make me want to pick up the game again anytime I set it down. Always making me want to try a new weapon or build, or just making the game look fun and sharing their knowledge and opinions, helping me grow as a player. I still think Nintendo could probably support the game better, but what you are saying has definitely been true for me as someone who isn’t so connected to the splat community otherwise.
If I can be honest as a guy who isn't in the Splatoon 2 comp scene but loves the game, it is criminal a game like this does not get much higher viewership. It isn't a game of "which team can get the invincible specials first", it isn't a game of "stall until you have an ultimate advantage", nor is it a best of fifteen with both sides alternating attack and defense. It is a fast-paced game that encourages teamwork without disregarding individual skill, it is a game with powerful supers that form the backbone of team strategy but can be countered by your team, it is a game with symmetrical maps with both teams alternating attack nand defense. It is criminal Nintendo does not do more with this side after their Switch hype trailer.
I really want to make content but I'm just not in a situation where it's practical but when I can I'll try to grow the community the best I can. Thanks for the inspiration DUDE
Thank you Dude, you are always my go-to source since I started playing the game. It was really helpful in terms of figuring out & exploring how things work and improving myself. The community need more people like you.
DUDE making videos like this is what inspired me to get good at Splatoon. I now stream the game on a near daily basis and want to start making videos just like this, getting the word out there and voicing how I feel about the game.
This actually made me think quite a bit. I bought the first Splatoon for Wii U just because one of my friends had it and I never really played it much. Then announcements for Splatoon 2 rolled around and it got me to watching some casual entertaining content on the game. And then I found your videos and I started learning how to get better at the game and that's pretty much how I got interested in competitive. I don't compete but all the tournaments and scrims I watch are pretty much because of your videos getting me interested back in the day.
Now, I watched the whole thing, and you are not wrong, but I have a few comments personally. 1. Not every top player has luxuries like a good capture card or a computer that can stream. Some top players live paycheck to paycheck. So to expect them to make content might be too much. Some people certainly could yes, but some people might not. Secondly, you say things need to be searchable with google, so are you expecting all of the programmers in the community to make web pages for this information? I'm lost as for your goal by bringing this up. Maybe TH-cam titles. I do understand your point though, that docs and information is very hard to find with just google. Thirdly, I would just like to point out that it's not easy to get followers or people that agree with you ideas, nor did you explain how to do this directly, but I would like to mention, asking teams you scrimage to join your discord is HUGE when it comes to getting "followers". Honestly I consider most of those people my friends and family. So I'd highly reccomend doing that.
With regard to the second point, one doesn't necessarily have to build a site of their own to make this information searchable with Google. Having more active discussion on sites like Reddit or Squidboards, or keeping Inkipedia up-to-date makes it searchable by Google. Even things like that go a long ways towards making information more accessible to the people who are interested.
DUDE, you have done so much for the community. In my opinion more than anyone has ever did. I got into this game by finding your videos, and then watching your streams, then getting to know your teammates from Olive etc etc etc. I just want to say: Thanks DUDE!
Hey Dude! I really enjoy your channel and think you make good points. Some constructive criticism though, focusing so exclusively on the competitive side could be counter productive. For instance when I first started playing turf wars was my favorite mode, but competitive players are VERY negative about turf wars. I really enjoy splatfests but you and others I follow get really salty during splatfest. You could potentially alienate casual players before they get a chance to become interested in competitive. I really enjoyed Uni for this reason because she always did splatfest coverage and I learned a lot from her. You have a great potential with your dr dude series -you could do some (more) turf wars/salmon run critiques, I think that would be a great gateway to help newer players even care about competitive. I don’t watch a lot of competitive players because most of what they say is pretty elitist. Strict tierlist, trashing solo que, etc. the game needs to seem fun to play and it doesn’t always seem like other splatoon content creators even enjoy the game. Just my two cents!
I agree with everything you said in this video. I've been watching your content for years now, long before I bought splatoon. Your videos are the reason I got the game in the end, high quality content like yours makes the game more accessible for casuals like me and helps to build a community around it
My dude I’ve recently got a capture card and after seeing this, it got me thinking to start recording and uploading my team’s tournaments and practice sessions. And just like you and many others, I want to have the competitive splatoon community grow more and more.
Thank god you made a video on this. You’re the only splatoon content creator I watch due to the fact you spark the competitive scene. And there’s really not that many creators that do that. I want to be able to create content since I’ve been playing this game competitively for awhile. But when I’m much older of course. you truly inspire me👌🏼
This is a great video. Creating content and debates within any community can be a positive change. Fantastic work, Dude, keep up the hard work. We are cheering you on!
Hey DUDE, I was actually that guy who was criticizing you for streaming during the tournament. I appreciate your response here, but I still disagree with you for a different reason. I really do respect what you do and everything you've done for the community. But if your big personality is drawing people away from the community and more to YOU personally, then that's not drawing people into the broader community and the broader conversation about the game. You do immense work, but because you are such a monumental figure in this community, you have to be aware when your individual actions have outcomes you don't intend. You get a lot of well-deserved praise and attention, but I think that tournament was a moment when you missed a moment to use your platform to pump up the tournament viewership numbers, and I stand by that criticism.
PREEEEEAAAAACHHHHH! Not a comp player, but I love it when players put out content and it makes me hyped to see them in tourneys. DUDE, Sorin, and Sendou opinion videos and match breakdowns are so good. Even Wadsm videos when he just makes funny vids made me love him as a player. Also, this is not a callout, but I wish Fish was a competitive player. He's good enough and has a good sized stream community, but he only streams. I'd watch any team he played on, too.
I'm not entirely competitive but I do have a decent set of ranks (3 S+'s and 1 A-). And I am gradually getting better and better (Heck, I sometimes open private battles for practice 1v1s or teams with some friends). I would've never gotten this far if it wasn't for you. I, along with everyone else could always count on you for help and friendly advice. You've especially helped me with Splashdown denials. You're everyone's hero and inspiration. A bit cheesy to say, but that's the truth.
I think there is a problem with the fact that in competitive Splatoon tournaments it is common for people to play on different teams every time and for a lot of teams to be 4 people just thrown together. The problem with this is that it doesn't give fans any rivals or any teams to follow.
True on the beginning i was like what your playing with the enemy then realized that people team up with others in their region regardless of the team.
Nobody: Splatoon fans: "SpLAtOoN iS dEAd!" For real though, I think every game community has doomsayers like that. I'm sure there is nothing unusual about Splatoon players fretting about the game dying. This just reminds me a lot of what people were saying toward the end of Splatoon 1's lifecycle. On a similar note, does anyone remember that video where DUDE was speculating about the esports arena in the Switch launch trailer?
Wadsm and you are the only people I have seen make content that really made me look at the competitive side of Splatoon and it really shows how little content exists for this.
Hey Dude! I'm feeling a bit inspired by today's video. I'm a bit new to the Splatoon, only 150ish hours, but i'm looking to break into the tournament scene. Where do people get their start? Are there like amatuer leagues? How do you find an open team? You're pretty much the biggest name in Splatoon, so if you haven't already, a video on this subject would be very appreciated.
DUDE has made some videos on it, but there is a tournament called "Jump Start" on the spawn pad discord server. (Don't have a link, but it's pretty big so you can probably find it). Jump Start is made for beginners, and you're placed with random teammates who also have applied, meaning you don't need to be in a team already.
Hey if you want you can join my team since we just started out but we have 5 splatoon players and are looking to expand our splatoon team. If you intrested look into our discord server:discord.gg/PjFHkSt
I’ve been following you since splatoon 1 and I loved the game. But you are right in what you say about splatoon 2. I havent seen a lot of content about splatoon 2 other than you and i felt that splatoon 2 isnt as hype than the first and I believed it was gonna die. Thank you for this insight and letting us know (the normies) that this is not dead
i havent been into splatoon 2 in the past couple of months so maybe my points arent that valid but i felt like splatoon hasnt been as popular as something like smash is because there arent many ways to vary your playstyle. for example, in smash opponents are enganging to play against and/or watch every time because one person might not play just like another. lets say like theres two young link players, but one’s campy while the other is more agressive.that kind of dynamic and variance is what i like about smash. however, i feel like thats missing in splatoon. every weapon you choose in this game serves a specific purpose, such as how splattershot pros are meant for offense and splat chargers are meant for defense. i dont feel like youre able to be as unique with playstyles in splatoon like how you can with other games. movement options are limited and theres only so many ways you can complete a goal or splat an enemy in an engagement. also, theres moments where you _could_ run in like a madman with a charger (which i may or may not have done a few times), but youre supposed to have a teammate who has a more offensive weapon handle that while you sit back and do your job of picking off people and spot those who want to flank. therefore, people arent able to be as creative with their playstyles. but you might say “this isnt smash this is a team shooter”. to that i say overwatch and tf2 exist. they fall under the same category of team shooters but they give you more options to be stylish and vary your playstyle. in the other games i mentioned, theres also other things like advanced tech which you have to practice and be consistent with to sharpen your skills and contine to improve. in splatoon, i felt like i hit a brick wall, even if i wasn’t really that great at the game considering i was only x rank 2000 last time i played. i felt like there wasnt much i could do to improve when i got to that point since all i could do was grind more but not learn anything new besides minor things like sub strafing or using specials to refill your ink instantly. idk though, i could def be wrong. i just personally felt like thats why the game got stale for me. this game still has a big following so theres definitely something there that draws people to it. i just wanted to give my two cents in the form of six long paragraphs.
I agree especially with the personality thing. I remember when I would watch dota 2 internationals just to see Dende play. I wasn't able to watch his personal content because I don't understand his native language. However, you would see so many videos of encounters against him, especially horror feeds of going against his pudge. He had a lot of great moments both on and off the game. Granted this was a long time ago and I don't keep up with competitive Dota anymore. I wouldn't have to begin with if it wasn't for players like Dende.
I think a good type of video that would help a lot of new players would be build guides for different weapons. The meta is always changing and there are so many different combinations of gear that can it can be a bit overwhelming when starting out. I have found a lack of videos about it...the best way to learn this is on the discord, but I think TH-cam videos would be way more appealing.
Hey DUDE! The competitive community is actually growing in Calgary! We have a community called the Alberta Squid Swamp and they created an event called Iced Rink! What this does is they split players into different teams and they balanced it based on people’s ranks. We are on season 2 and our tournament is coming up this weekend at a convention called Otafest! It will be streamed over the weekend and we still do not know how many teams there will be, but it will be good for exposure since we are located in a big room where all other games are happening! We are still growing and I do believe the competitive community is far from dead. Take a look at LUTI too where there are many teams involved!
I just baught a capturecard and I give my best to get into videoediting etc. I just want to understand how musiccopyright works so I can do montages ,too. I rly want to get into all this stuff so I can do my part for the community
Random thought, casting sucks right now. We let anyone cast and they are just really bad at it. You need to get excited about it and I haven’t seen that at all. Make it interesting, don’t just talk monotone and say what is happening on the screen.
I’m actually very new to Splatoon and I’ve actually been thinking of recording and possibly uploading footage because I am super interested in the competitive aspect to the game!
As a tournament organiser myself, I agree with your points. Our tournaments don’t get many players or viewership but even if someone from my community did that I would be considering banning them. Everyone works so hard to put on these things, TO’s, competitors and content creators. Each person should be given the recognition for the efforts they put in.
I agree with your point. I used to be big into competitive LoL but my hype for the teams was where the players were. Dyrus, Imaqtpie, Doublelift, Aphromoo. And one by one they retired and I just lost interest where now it's just players that are good but don't care about. Same here. I love Splatoon and you're on of the only ones that i ever see make actual content involving competitive. Others do make content but mostly comedy bits and stuff. I would make content but I dont see myself entertaining enough to actually make videos, would be just another Xranker in a sea of xranks
Tbh I've never seen anything about "Splatoon dying off" or anyone claiming that it's like that. Like you said, there are plenty of new players joining the scene and I think the community is doing quite well. I joined a new team a few months ago, and ever since, we've been working our way up Luti, learning a lot and having a good time together. We've kinda cultivated a strong, yet smallish community of our team and few other teams. And honestly, it's one of the greatest things I've ever had the honor to be a part of, so I personally don't see any "dying" like other people have said. I do agree though that I don't see as much content about Splatoon out there compared to Smash and other games, and that it's difficult to bring new people to Splatoon because a lot of the community is centered around discord already, a resource that is hard to access unless someone from there invites you or you find a link somewhere that isn't discord. This doesn't make the community shrink, but I think leaves it a bit stagnant and not growing really fast (I think this is the source of people claiming that Splatoon is dying, because it isn't growing quickly). Maybe there needs to be a website/community/resource of sorts that's easy to find, is really usefull and engaging, and is relatively centralized (meaning that almost everyone in the community uses it) to make it easier to find Splatoon stuff. Something that's like "hey every single person!" if you want to get involved in Splatoon, go here. I don't know. Inkademy I think works great for this purpose, but the fact that it's a discord server, slightly hard to use in my opinion, and is mostly competitive centered makes it more alienating to newer players. In terms of making content, I'd love to make videos and stuff, but I don't have the resources at the moment to get a capture card and a setup. Regardless, I think Twitter and other social media platforms are a good way to increase involvement without making videos, but I personally don't see how they could introduce newer people to Splatoon, which I think is the point you are trying to get across here. I see what you mean though about having a personality too: people like to look up to people and find it easier to associate with a competitive player who acts like a human and not like some random you meet in Ranked matches. These type of people of people like you (ThatSrb2Dude), Octoboy, Wadsm, Etce, and many others. (Sorry if I don't mention you :P). The reason why I got into competitive in the 1st place was because I saw you in a Chuggaconroy video and I decided to check out your channel. I became enthralled with your personalty and gameplay and I was like "wow, I wanna be like this guy." So I practiced, found a team, and used the resources you provided in order to help me get into competitive, so I have a lot to owe you in that regard. It took me about a year to get into competitive from the 1st time I got interested due to bad WiFi (NAT type transversal), but even with my bad WiFi, I still followed the community and still felt engaged even though I wasn't able to play. Now my WiFi is better (due to VPN), and now I got a whole new community to explore and stuff thanks to creators like you. (Wow, this turned from a discussion about the game to a thank-you letter real fast.) But anyways, yeah... That's my rant. Thanks for being cool! And since you've mentioned about spreading the word, imma put this on Twitter.
Prior to making my own videos, I had talked with people about doing such, making videos. But was met with comments about how there was "little room" for someone new where at the time, there were 3 big channels that provided Splatoon related content. However, I did it anyway noting that despite there may being people with a larger fanbase than me, the point of my videos were to get my opinion out and my thoughts out. Since then that's pretty much what my Splatoon content remained, my opinion, my views, my thoughts. At the time people thought getting involved was like getting into a competitive environment and then I'd have to fight for my views and so on, when in reality it's just about providing another voice. So take it from someone that started out with just a composite capture card and not a single sub to start with, even just another voice providing another look can result in something
I think what you said about the personalities does matter a lot in making the community. The smash community does a good job at making it easy to follow the competitive players, and take it further by having them comment on the game after they play it, show their faces, brands, etc. I think a Splatoon Summit would be pretty great, and a way to connect the audience to the players on a more personal level.
I'm sure the content creators won't let Splatoon 2 die at least until Splatoon 3 and the real Splatoon fans won't stop playing it after the end of the splatfests. The thing is that TH-cam is tough especially with the small creators so I'm not sure enough of the people who decided to try will keep up with being consistent. As I'm getting into competitive, I might start making some videos about my thoughts so I can do my part of bringing people to the community (but to be found with less than 1000 subs...)(btw thanks for the ideas). Anyways, I agree, we need more videos- after all TH-cam is the second largest search engine (after google) so most people are gonna search for content in it.
Maybe it's because I'm pretty immersed in the Smash community but I haven't been seeing these gossip chats about Splaton dying. Then again with BNS on hiatus and your sponsored contract expiring, I can see how lots of dumb people can be quick to shoot out "OmG iT's DyInG." Trust me, same thing happens with smash, and the irrational fear never matches the circumstance. Now for that one guy blaming you for streaming during a tournament, all I gotta say is, what a cancerous individual, oh my lord. I've seen you stream during tournaments and the fact of the matter is, if I don't know any of the players in said tournament, I am not watching. Regardless whether or not you're streaming. That's the TO's job to grow his tournament series. Now, on the Smash end's of things, tournaments and big time streamers' schedules will butt heads. It's the reality of things and how it's gonna be. The quantity of smash personalities and tournaments are just a ton. There's only so much time in a week for people to share. But in no way is there any disrespect. Splatoon content is what we really need. Yeah, sure, meme videos are great and all but what the community really yearns for is the competitive info. I feel like LeanYoshi has a goldmine at his disposal that either he or someone else can use for content. He has that Google doc, that I'm sure no one knows about but everyone wants. Your series of "The worth of " is probably one of the best videos for newcomers and people google searching. There needs to be more of that. Not totally from you, Dude, obviously, you do a ton for the community. Tozotube was great too but I don't think he has made any new Splatoon info-taiment content in a while. But yeah, completely agree with everything, Dude. /long monologue
It's a good thing i started posting videos of my highlights. I can't stream until I get a capture card, though. I may not be the most competitive, but I *love* this game, so I'm definitely going to post more content, not only here, but Instagram and Twitter.
As a long time player of the game, and someone who has played competitive before, I agree. I wish I could make content as well, but financially I can't afford things like an editing software, good mic, etc. That and even though I have played competitive, I'm not a very great player. I'm X 2100~ in all modes, but that's nothing to people who are really competitive. I feel like I'm not good enough to just have a channel on splatoon discussion, and I'm not out-going enough to be a 'fun' splatoon youtuber.
The only thing is Splatoon 2 is my favorite game and I don't want it to become like fortnite (I like fortnite a pretty decent amount) and every where you go people won't shut up about it then it kinda becomes mainstream and in a way gets ruined
I have noticed there aren't really any other well known Splatoon players posting videos often lately as much as Dude does compared to months ago. There's not really much videos about the recent Sheldon's Picks weapons for instance. I enjoyed Uni's videos some time ago, but she doesn't seem to post anymore. There are still Putz12 rage videos being posted every so often, which I still enjoy. Also, certain people I used to watch on Twitch who streamed Splatoon often, they don't seem to care anymore about the Splatoon series, even after Splatoon 2 came out, and probably only streamed Splatoon 2 a handful of times, even though Splatoon 2 has more variety.
I'm not a popular TH-camr, but I've been making Splatoon2 content since last year - It's really hard trying to promote yourself. I've had a heck of a time gathering viewers.
don't really play Splatoon 2 anymore but just my 2 cents. Make the game more welcoming to newer players such as an in game mentor thing or something. Maybe have players train other players and in return they get cash or stuff they can put on gear. It's like if a new player level 1 starts playing now. They're gonna go to turf and ranked and encounter a good chunk of level 99* players with new accounts who like to beat on inexperienced players. Or those other players who just squid party and don't play at all. Their reactions will probably be "Mhmm yeah. F**k this game." I could be wrong about what I said though since I haven't played this game since September 2018.
Ev'ixyn This is true and fair, but this vid is targeted at people who are in the competitive scene or want to get into the competitive scene, but don’t put content out
Not every 1 can create videos for yt, it would be helpful if the switch had a simple cutting software. I want to upload splatoon montages soon, cause I have an pc to edit montages.
If a lot related to competitive was on yt I would probably still play competitive splatoon but tbh I feel like the community is pretty dry at this point, hopefully it will get better like it used to be soon
The competitive community won’t die unless we let it.
FACTS. We can't let it die.
Exactly.
omg nintendo woohoo lets go yay splatoon omg woooooooo!! 🥳😃😁😊😊
Which is exactly what I said to Erza numerous times on discord. And really, this applies to any gaming community
It's more interesting when teams stay together for a decent amount of time. It's more fun following their progress rather than random pick up teams made of top players
I th Ink Japan does a much better job of this than the west
i legit have no idea when a tournament is happening, who's playing or what's at stake.
I literally rewatch big tournaments multiple times just to watch some competitive Splatoon lol
Just check battlefy

Yup! Hard agree. Spend less time wondering why your plant isn't growing and more time watering it.

jk i totally agree
Without you I would've never have cared about competitive splatoon and I think that you are the gateway to the competitive community for a lot of Splatoon players
I started playing Splatoon because of DUDE, and DUDE helps keep me interested in Splatoon... Content as the factor makes sense.
Thank you for explaining this through
Nintendo Madness exactly! Im not even a competitive player but love the game. Sadly without the equipment I cant make any video
You forget you have to x to be on a team not all of us are x
Same, he's gotten me honestly inspired. But I don't have any friends as good as me. I found ONE person I know, but I think he doesn't like me.
ChuksK Gaming Yes, I speak german. ^^
Same! Dude has inspired so many!
Dude is the competitive community Itself. That Hold's All of us together.
Im Glad Dude exists. He's helped us all 👍😎
I used to be casual player who wanted to go competitive but had no idea how, and after I found discord it took me a few months to fall into the same rhythm as everyone else playing the well-known tournaments because I had never even heard all of this stuff existed.
SushiFairy Same. If I start making vids I'm gonna have variety, with plans for Splatoon, Smash, DOA, and a few others.
We still have the E3 splatoon 2 finals to look forward to! Long live splatoon!
60 likes, thanks everyone 😯😁
This honestly just made my motivation go up 100% I am going to do my part to help grow this community by committing to my videos more and more
Subbed. Make me proud.
@@robertej09 I will do my best for the future of this great community
You can do it man!
Same
You do more for the community than any other person.
You have a very good point.
We work for our community
I won’t die, we won’t die 🐢💕
I enjoy watching your streams btw. Im an s+ in everything lol partly due to lazyness and staying consistent and my confidence has dropped a bit im working on those things
Birdy ~ play the way you want to best enjoy le game 🐢💕
@@BeeLy1011 wait what? I play halo and overwatch but know what game i play more? Splatoon and splatoon 2
This is true, I like watching Kaji and Majin play in tournaments. I like to listen to the opinions of you and Sendou
Moataz Seada
Kaji is the entire reason I can play splatlings!
Not saying it won’t get there, but just based off the popularity from the competitive scene I don’t think it will
Gaming as a whole isn't going on too much well in the Middle East, seeing as they're busy playing with real-life tanks & armies... ☺😑😑
Joshua Gabriel Catindig that was kind of irrelevant, even in the past gaming wasn’t too big in the Middle East. Depends on what part you live in
Hey Dude, could you make a video with tips about how to push better with backline weapons? When I play heavy in X I find myself in situations where I can keep the enemy at bay and prevent pushes, but unable to get myself and my team far enough into the enemy spawn.
The only reason I follow speedruners is because they have a personality and they have an opinion, the reason I ONLY FOLLOW YOU as a competitive splatoon player is because of that, not for your abilities (Even though I think your the best player) but for your personality...
Besides, even if the competitive splatoon players debate they do it though Twitter or Discord which only would make that only competitive players only know other competitive players, which makes a complete dark hole of interest, which means that nobody cares about competitive splatoon.
smodr
my thoughts exactly. dude has been the only comp splatoon player who stood out to be just because of his personality, and i feel like this community lacks those kinds of people. i havent been that big of a follower in the scene but i feel like other games do this kind of thing best, like in smash with people like hungrybox, leffen, or nairo; street fighter with daigo umehara; or hell even fortnite with ninja. in splatoon, i dont really see those kinda of people that much (like i said i dont follow the scene that much, so correct me if im wrong)
you cant tell me dude doesnt do the best splatoon content
He really does.
He puts in music, has notes for his thoughts, good gameplay, and good editing.

this is probably why professional league of legends player's contracts say that the players have to stream
Also i agree, i follow pro league of legends because of my favourite player(faker) if he didn't stream i wouldn't have found clips of him doing amazing plays and i wouldn't be a fan of the team and the pro scene right now...
We need like a 100 Dudes to grow the community.
Nice video and content DUDE 💪🏻.
Thank you so much.
1000 more like it 😁
If I can be honest as a guy who isn't in the Splatoon 2 comp scene but loves the game, it is criminal a game like this does not get much higher viewership.
Thanks for the vid! It IS a good motivator!
Team Olive vs Kraken Paradise in an official europeen Nintendo tournament, it'd be so great !
I loved that video, Dude best splatoon youtuber !
@@KamikazeMusume good point, I forgot reddit existed.
@@Littlepetfrog Basically what Kamikaze said.
we need to get someone in the competitive scene say the goo tuber is top tier, then everyone will think it's top tier
DUDE, you have done so much for the community. In my opinion more than anyone has ever did. I got into this game by finding your videos, and then watching your streams, then getting to know your teammates from Olive etc etc etc. I just want to say: Thanks DUDE!
This is super true your the person who got me into sploon pro community thx dude
Thank you so much dude!!! this has been such a big inspiration!!!!!!!
I have been trying to get into the competitive scene for a long time and was thinking about starting a TH-cam channel
This is definitely a eye opener
Nobody:
Splatoon fans: "SpLAtOoN iS dEAd!"
For real though, I think every game community has doomsayers like that.
I agree. I love this game and would love to see it grow. Great video. Thanks
1:10 Dude just 3 kills robbed from him sad
I love this! I’m relatively new to the community and try to watch as many videos I can to be a better player.
Im sure youre good
Great Video- lets all go away and think, "what can we do to improve things"
Tysm! Gotta look that up
@@gurdemandboi3002 I'm in that server!
@@Sporkmo its a good server to get started with guaranteed.
I’ve been following you since splatoon 1 and I loved the game. But you are right in what you say about splatoon 2. I havent seen a lot of content about splatoon 2 other than you and i felt that splatoon 2 isnt as hype than the first and I believed it was gonna die.
Thank you for this insight and letting us know (the normies) that this is not dead
i havent been into splatoon 2 in the past couple of months so maybe my points arent that valid but i felt like splatoon hasnt been as popular as something like smash is because there arent many ways to vary your playstyle.
for example, in smash opponents are enganging to play against and/or watch every time because one person might not play just like another. lets say like theres two young link players, but one’s campy while the other is more agressive.that kind of dynamic and variance is what i like about smash.
however, i feel like thats missing in splatoon. every weapon you choose in this game serves a specific purpose, such as how splattershot pros are meant for offense and splat chargers are meant for defense. i dont feel like youre able to be as unique with playstyles in splatoon like how you can with other games. movement options are limited and theres only so many ways you can complete a goal or splat an enemy in an engagement. also, theres moments where you _could_ run in like a madman with a charger (which i may or may not have done a few times), but youre supposed to have a teammate who has a more offensive weapon handle that while you sit back and do your job of picking off people and spot those who want to flank. therefore, people arent able to be as creative with their playstyles.
but you might say “this isnt smash this is a team shooter”. to that i say overwatch and tf2 exist. they fall under the same category of team shooters but they give you more options to be stylish and vary your playstyle.
in the other games i mentioned, theres also other things like advanced tech which you have to practice and be consistent with to sharpen your skills and contine to improve. in splatoon, i felt like i hit a brick wall, even if i wasn’t really that great at the game considering i was only x rank 2000 last time i played. i felt like there wasnt much i could do to improve when i got to that point since all i could do was grind more but not learn anything new besides minor things like sub strafing or using specials to refill your ink instantly.
idk though, i could def be wrong. i just personally felt like thats why the game got stale for me. this game still has a big following so theres definitely something there that draws people to it. i just wanted to give my two cents in the form of six long paragraphs.
agree, I'd love to follow more competitive splatoon players on youtube and see more tournament footage!
We must all do our part to grow this community
OMG I THOUGHT I WAS THE ONLY ONE WHO saw that dumb comment in the chat lmao
Create debates, content, etc. 🤔🧐
Seems like I need my opinion more out there...
Basically yes.
This inspired me. . once I get the right software and equipment, I will start making content about the game !
Awesome video Dude!!
We need you
As a tournament organiser myself, I agree with your points.
I think a Splatoon Summit would be pretty great, and a way to connect the audience to the players on a more personal level.
or post memes
really interesting video btw, I personally really enjoy watching wadsm and you to get better at the game
Hi octoboy . . . .
Now for that one guy blaming you for streaming during a tournament, all
I gotta say is, what a cancerous individual, oh my lord.
TSRB2D calling them out?
I don't watch Twitch, or use Discord
I have discord but my phone doesnt like twittch it say "video unplayable" even if the steamer is live
F**k this game."
I could be wrong about what I said though since I haven't played this game since September 2018.
Competitive is fun and all but it is not for everyone especially if all they want is fame :P I just enjoy the game and play it :3
Ev'ixyn
This is true and fair, but this vid is targeted at people who are in the competitive scene or want to get into the competitive scene, but don’t put content out
Not every 1 can create videos for yt, it would be helpful if the switch had a simple cutting software.
I want to upload splatoon montages soon, cause I have an pc to edit montages.
If a lot related to competitive was on yt I would probably still play competitive splatoon but tbh I feel like the community is pretty dry at this point, hopefully it will get better like it used to be soon
The splatoon 2 community is doing great. I have a bunch of new ideas I can use to keep this going for a while!
