Ultimately, you can't go wrong with either. They're all fantastic cars. I for example think the M3 Touring looks way more aggressive than this RS6, but this is by no means a knock on the RS6, it looks fsntastic as well. It's all so subjective, ultimately.

You lost the point.. They brake before even they get on the road.. Reliability is the worst vs merc and bmw.. Audi has a lot of issues and it's at bottom of reliability servers.. Even with bmw crank hub issue still ends way above audi.. And audi has engine issues, gearbox issues, electrical issues, its slower, suv weight.. If you put money on audi buy rs3, or a c63 amg, or 240i 340i 440i, or fix crank hub on an m4 and still will cost less money than a used rs6.. Used rs6 is more expensive vs used c63 or m4.. And doesn't offer nothing similar or better.. Ohh and the idiotic 40 year old understeer

I felt that way about the B5 RS4 for a very long time, then they made the B7 RS4 Avant and made me rethink my previous statement. Then they made this RS6 Avant, which I do agree may be the best looking estate. One thing I'm certain is that they will make another that will look better than this. How and when, I don't know, but I'd bet they will gladly accept the challenge.

  • @samgab
    @samgab ปีที่แล้ว +39

You can fix that door closing issue in software. It's because the seals are good and you're creating an air pressure spike when you close the door. There is a feature/ setting in software to slightly drop "short drop" the window of each door when it's opened, and seal it back up again after it's closed. This alleviates the air pressure pushing back against the door closing, and the door will close easier every time.

    • @MKINDYR107

That thing about the doors not closing, I reckon you hit the nail on the head. Back in the 90s my mate had a really good condition 70s VW Beetle and i had the exact same issues. I could only shut his passenger door properly if he had his quarter light (I think they're called? The little tiny pop open window old cars used to have?) The air pressure inside if you happened to be sitting in the back when someone shut a door made your ears pop/hurt!

I’m so glad I watched this. I can’t stand sluggish cars that are powerful and leave you frustrated and wanting more. As a RSQ8 owner your outlook on ownership is spot on. To fix the throttle lag I installed a pedal box which is a simple plug and play device that sharpness response drastically. Unfortunately these engines do also suffer from turbo lag so it’s still there but not as bad. As for the doors I’ve also noticed the same thing, not as much as you have but that may be because I have frameless doors which allow some air to escape. I also own a c7 RS7 and that car is more of a dynamic car but no where near as comfortable as the RSQ8. I wish Audi didn’t lean that far towards comfort, but I have a feeling as other VAG cars are coming out Audi’s are being nerfed to prevent in brand competition.

Buy a proper car instead of an SUV if you want it to be sporty. Or buy a Range Rover v8 for family stuff and something like a 911 or M5 if you need 4 door. Audis aren’t in the same as league as BMWs when it comes to dynamics.

Great video and channel! I owned a C7 RS6 from 2013 - 2022. My 2013 car, ebis white, was a press car and loaded with everything available at the time. In 2015 I took it to Litchfield and had the stage 2 conversion (featured in Top Gear mag).Did over 120,000 miles in it and loved every minute. With the miles stacking up, and a few potential issues with the dynamic ride, we parted ways. So I now have a 2022 RS5 (driven for 1.5 years). It is a nice car, I have always though the A5 was a nice car and had one of the first to arrive in the UK in 2008. But in every way (other than perhaps economy), it is just no match for the RS6. So I am soon to turn back to an RS6, just waiting for the right nearly new one to become available with everything on my Wishlist. And yes, it will go to Litchfield again who have already worked their magic on the C8 model. As we move towards 2030 I have no interest at this time to be driving an EV, I want a stonking V8! Mark.

I had a accident with my C6 all road and while its being fixed I was given a C8 estate and I absolutely agree with you that they look so good and the interior is so well appointed that you want to spend a lot of time behind the wheel. the one I have has the S line package with the sport seats and they are so comfortable to sit in....its like being on a lazy boy while driving. I have the 2.0l 4cylinder turbo with 204HP....I was skeptical about this engine coming from a 3.0l v6 but you would be hard pressed to even notice that you are actually driving a 2.0l 4 cylinder....the C8 generation is a joy to look at and even better to drive no matter which trim you get. I honestly will be sad when I have to bring this one back.

Can’t say I’ve ever noticed the throttle response but what I have noticed is how it changes depending on drive mode. In RS2 mode the throttle is very snappy indeed. It would be too much if it were always super sensitive. I’d say it’s wound down for comfort - this is 600bhp remember.

Mine is a late 21 car so I was fortunate and got the wireless charging pad. The pop up B&O speakers are a separate option that has never been available in the UK.
I spoke to a chap who bought a new S6 for £70k late last year and when it arrived it didn’t have matrix headlights or led rears; no dynamic indicators?!? On an S6?? Rumour has it that the electric steering wheel adjustment has also been omitted along with the wireless pad.
I actually had a carbon black on order - but after waiting over a year and still no build date confirmed my impatience overtook and I bought a vorsprung with 4k on the clock! So pleased I did. The pano, hud and adaptive cruise are incredible options I’d have missed.

Agreed. I’m in a June ‘20 (20 plate) RS4 Vorsprung from new which has just hit 13,000 miles this morning. My regular settings are Dynamic and Drive. I found Comfort and Drive just too soft and lazy - auto upshifts took forever despite the car wanting to change up.
Dynamic and Drive fixed the upshift lag with the ratios punching in much sooner under acceleration but holding a high gear on even a shallow incline in a 30/40/50 mph zone is more difficult.
Dynamic and Sport changes things immeasurably - the whole car seems to squat down, the exhaust resonance is way more aggressive and throttle response is much, much sharper.

Joe, just a little feedback about the interior camera angles you use. The one facing you whilst you talk is from old TV media days and it's outdated. When your talking about the car, I don't really want to just be looking at you the whole time. It usually makes me close the video because the length of time in the shot is too long. Get rid of that camera angle, because I don't need to see you the whole time that you are talking. Turn that camera around, so we can see the dashboard. Give the feeling of being your passenger.

Great video as always. I have owned my RS6 C8 for 3 years now and absolutely love it. I have the Vorsprung with pano roof and agree that it is a must. I must say I have never had a problem with the passenger door not shutting properly at all and I don’t have soft close.
I agree with you on the throttle response, which isn’t quite right. Although it is a lot better if you have the Throttle selection in Dynamic in drive select and I also always drive in Sport mode changing every gear myself with the paddles.
Luckily though I have the new Performance Vorsprung edition on order, which amongst other things apparently addresses the throttle issue and mine has a pano roof again and soft close doors in any case.
Once again a great video. Keep up the awesome work.

In my lottery winning dream life garage/barn (Harry Metcalfe style) this car would be the 3rd purchase after new Defender 110 and Escort Cosworth both I have driven in anger but I look forward to the day I can drive that car on the snow road in Aberdeenshire. I need to unplug the i-Pace drive it to the shops for a ticket and cross my fingers. In the interim I am so jealous and that is the colour. I recently detailed a brand new Q7 in that colour for a friend who had blown a chunk of his pension and wanted it protected and it looked amazing on completion.

Alpina B5 owner here. I think I'd get a bit frustrated at that noise from start - it's, like the looks, a bit too showy for me. You made a comment about the AWS and BMW but it's worth noting that the B5 also has RWS and on the hairpins which are common on my local roads it's perfect. It sounds like the Audi is closer to my car than the M5, especially the more compliant suspension. Shame you couldn't have got the pair side-by-side.

I'm assuming you are not putting the 'box into Sport to get a better response and that you are talking about 'soggy' feel when the mode is just in Drive ?
Leaving the 'box in Sport isn't great for fuel economy because it also holds onto lower gears for longer.

I've been looking at an RS5 to replace my M140i - I wanted AWD for more all-weather use and the V6 sounds tasty. But my research into Audi cars has really put me off because the reliability really seems so poor compared to other brands. BMW Exx cars used to have a bad reputation, but their newer cars have really upped the game. B58 engine is amazing. So I am likely to keep my M140i for another year and wait for prices of the M4 xDrive to come down to somewhere I can afford and forget about the RS5.

That so much criticised grille, just works so well on the Touring, giving it a really purposeful, dynamic and sporty look. But, as you know, these things are subjective etc.

Throttle response better, certainly in Dynamic or one of the RS settings. Not done a launch yet. Soft close doors so no issue there. Ceramics are great and don’t snatch as reported elsewhere. Not sure if this has changed yet but mine’s a Vorsprung and didn’t come with ‘Convenience Key’ so no tail gate foot gesture opening or auto door unlocking as you approach. Something to do with the carbon on it interfering with sensors. Maybe that’s changed now & has been sorted. Dunno. Ascari Blue; a lovely looking machine. RS6GT as an alternative? - but no headlight washers, no sunroof, no roof rails, no power increase & £80K more, for what?
