Exactly- the magic of this car is that it has very high cornering capabilities right out of the box. Fast and safe driving is always when traction is kept, on the limit it’s extremely fun. All else is kids stuff and irresponsible on public roads. Control is always faster! I got the GR86 and it dances on mountain roads like few can, tripple the horse power or whatever, they ain’t faster from start to finish, and that’s why this car is an amazing proposition for enthusiast drivers.
I would still take the Miata because this still isn't a convertible. I get that they are similar in power to weight ratio and price range so people compare them, but the Miata is still a lot lighter, which provides a completely different driving experience and of course the key feature is the convertible feature. To me, the 86 and Miata are not comparable.
If you're looking for the top down experience it really is hard to beat the Miata, same as for pure driving dynamics. If you can compromise on the practicality, it really is a fantastic vehicle.
Bro it’s fake sound. Get a trim remover tool, or a screwdriver + something to damp it so you don’t damage the trim. And then pry off the panel between the passenger door and the side of the glovebox Don’t believe any vids you don’t need to remove to reach the glovebox, etc and unplug the fake sound box.
We can't do that as this car is owned by Subaru Canada, but for any owner checking out this video this will probably be super helpful. Thanks for sharing!
Always gotta play the TH-cam algorithm game a little I'm afraid. But it's just a question, one I'd answer with "No" as both the Miata and BRZ are fantastic vehicles with a different set of pros and cons :)
@ As a RF owner, I don’t even look at the Toyota or BRZ. My eyes check out the Nismo Z or a Lotus Emira. It’s not the same price point, but where I would like to go after a RF experience. A BRZ reminds me of a Ford Probe. Just a mid car.
Great car, not a Miata killer however, Miata is a niche vehicle that is an open roof sports car, mostly, not counting the Miata RF, these don't compete for the same market.
Haven't driven all of these, but here's my take: Supra: Completely different price point GR86: Better looks, but Toyota has been weird about warranties lately, so BRZ is my pick. Z: Different price point, but the BRZ drives better anyway. Civic Type R: BRZ is significantly cheaper and RWD, but slower overall Elantra N: Slightly more expensive, more usable, but only FWD so it depends on what you prefer WRX: Haven't driven it unfortunately, but probably less fun but more practical Golf: Same as Type R / Elantra N
@@GCCarsCA- agreed. You like Mustangs. Probably Hellcats too. These are not sports cars. The BRZ/FRS is a cheap sports car, not a Japanese muscle car. Thanks for making my point.

I'm sure on a tight mountain road very few cars can beat the BRZ... if we only had those here in Ontario! Glad you're liking your GR86!

Miatas look gross
@claysoggyfries they are the most beautiful car. Everything else is a box on wheels lol
Clay’s a noob 👀
Very true, Miata true competitor the Honda S2000 and Toyota MR-S are long gone, people will still buy a Miata because it is special.
Just FYI you can get a short throw shifter from factory or dealer installed. Should be the first thing you change and it is relatively cheap.
That'll definitely be a worthy investment!
I hate the short shifter. Makes it too notchy and totally unnecessary to with short throws and nice feel as is.

Disconnecting the fake sound is the first thing I did when I brought my BRZ
Very funny title young man.

Trust me, on a colder day you will absolutely lose traction in this and the GR86, especially with colder tyres.
Sounds like a good time to me!

I've been cross shopping both of these for my own future vehicle purchase. But you are correct, they aren't entirely comparable. I love both however!
I'm buying a BRZ. If it didn't exist I'd get a Miata. So yes this car does steal sales from the Miata.
because...drift car ❤
Grip drift = Grift = fastest cornering speed
Compared with Toyota Supra/86, Nissan Z, Honda Civic, Hyundai Elantra, Subaru WRX, Volkswagen Golf, and Others

@GCCarsCA Hmph, That BRZ you Review it, It's a Exotic Car
So, which one would you take? BRZ / 86 or the Miata? 🤔
I got BRZ because it's better for beginner track days. I might change to Miata in few years.
Neither are fast, both are a blast to drive anyway but only one is a Roadster which makes all the difference in fun! Miata all day!
We don't lose traction 😢.
Why do you want to lose traction? Oh, mustang guy. You like destroying tires more than driving. You might consider staying out of sports cars.
Hey man, different people like different stuff! And I'm not talking about burnouts, but just a bit more playfulness would be appreciated.

Glad that we agree then :)
Because it's fun. You should acquiant yourself.
@@bearclaw5115 - I'll pass. I prefer going fast through a turn, not losing control.
