I think if you’re okay with the idea that it changes the game from a race to a VP collecting smash-fest, focusing a lot more on destruction than racing, then yes it’s just as fun. The components and mix-ins it adds are great~
I personally am just fine with the regular game, but I also find the regular game to be so much chaos I don’t necessarily want more-and that’s just my opinion-but I think if you like lots of chaos you will want to go for the gusto, add all the bells and whistles and buy the expansion.
@ If you like tactical gameplay Joyride’s great. Personally I can’t see getting rid of any of the 3 of them. They’re all very good games. We’ve found Joyride is best at 2 player or 4. (20 or so plays) 2 player team matches are our favorite, wherein each player controls 2 drivers. Typically at some point one of the cars is delegated to running interference, trying to hinder the others players lead car. The system is extremely friendly to tweaking and house ruling. We’ve changed the reversing rules which greatly improved the game for us making it a smoother experience and a bit less frustrating (and more realistic) when inevitably you get spun around wrong way. Have fun! Our group was planning to a night playing all 3 of these games as well.
Thunder Road, take me home 🎶 😂
Such A great Game.
Is the expansion worth buying? if it’s not at least as fun as normals game, even if it’s good, I will just play normal game instead.

Try Joyride.
Thunder Road is amazing and it’s one of my favorite games from 2023 but Joyride is special and criminally unknown.
It’s funny you say that! We’re doing a Joyride, Thunder Road, & Heat deep dive comparison/contrast video that’s going to be out soon~
