I still have my beat-up copy of the original Thunder Road from the 80s. It is fun for what it is, but it is telling that after just a couple of plays my friend and I sat down and wrote an expanded ruleset for it. I believe that this was the case for a lot of the owners of the original version, if comments on BGG are indicative. The new updates to the core mechanics by Restoration Games are spot-on, adding some useful player choices and streamlining the gameplay, without changing the fundamental nature of the game. As noted in the video, the expansions allow players to customize gameplay with variable player abilities, randomness mitigation, additional terrain effects, and new vehicle types. The Carnival of Chaos expansion is for practical purposes an entirely new and unique game that uses some of the same mechanics and bits, which is very cool. Restoration Games has really knocked this one out of the park.
Mine came through Kickstarter with their latest expansion, but the retail restock will be soon - Zatu listing as December, for instance, at least for the base game, and presumably the expansions will be restocked with it.
yeah, mine just arrived last week from kickstarter. I got the base game a year ago from my local games and stuff store in the US. I think now that the kickstarter is being delivered, you may be able to order it from restoration games soon or find it at your local games store if they purchased any to sell.
Seriously? This is a kids game from the 80's...I guess it shows the state of board gamers today if something like this qualifies as "strategy". The amount of randomness is off the charts with all of the dice rolling involved.
Gosh, you should see how old some of my other reviews are! Seriously though, I only just got it in the latest Kickstarter for the fifth expansion. And I'm sure some others haven't heard of it yet! Maybe next week I'll review Catan ;)
It was just released last year, not 2 years ago. But the latest kickstarter with the newest expansion Carnival of Chaos including everything you can own for this game just started being delivered last week when he did the review.

Great review. Nice and succinct
Where did you get this please? I can’t find it in stock anywhere in Europe / UK.

@@jeremyjedlicka1473 thanks man. I’ll be keeping my eyes peeled in the new year.
Like how you said that TRV isn't going to win any award for strategy while it actually won the best strategy game at American Tabletop Awards 😂

Hah! Did Zombicide win the award for best storytelling, too? ;)
LOL. Those awards aren’t serious anyway.
Wow...this came out like 2 years ago.
