For several years I looked at Catamarans and thought for sure that is what I would buy (Year 2020-2022). After realizing the premium on cats, I went back and reconsidered a mono. I put a short list of things I was looking for and one was "waterline" but still able to sail short handed and even solo. Last year I bought a 2007 Jeanneau 54DS that was in the NE and in great shape for roughly 250K. After a lot of projects and about 100K worth of upgrades I have a boat that will take me anywhere I want to go, is as roomy as a cat, I can single hand thanks to technology like autohelm and electric winches. Most of all she looks and sails great. As for speed 9-10kts motoring and sailing which is as good as many of performance cats and far better than the floating condos. Just another option to consider!
There is a lot that can break on that type of boat (and it will!) ....'everywhere' is of course relative since you cannot go too far north or south on a plastic boat and once you are in SE Asia; good luck finding (or even ordering parts) or getting something actually fixed on a boat chock full of tech
Well you for sure saved money and can manage a large monohull solo safer than a large cat. You won't have any issues repairing it in asia. Or anywhere for that matter.
@@theyshouldhavenevergivenme5439 what are you talking about? I am in Phuket now and you can get anything here that you want and have all the skilled technicians to do professional work, and whilst expensive for Asia, still Waaaay cheaper than Europe/N. America
Well done video. AND. You had some fun too. When I wanted to sell my boat, I went to a brokerage and said that I wanted to sell my boat THIS SUMMER. I didn’t want to keep it another year. The broker said that he should be able to sell it “ within a year”. He didn’t listen so went to another broker and went through the same scenario. This guy listened ( what a concept). We had is sold in a month! Done. I was willing to bring the price down to a reasonable amount and it sold right away. I didn’t fight, grind, bicker, I sold the boat for a good price to a young coulpe that will really enjoy it. Win, win!
Keep up great reporting from so many interesting and sometimes beautiful location we've never had the opportunity to see first hand. Great intelligent info and we certainly appreciate your efforts to INFORM! FWCS. SAILING ⛵️
That’s generally how we do things as well. Decide to sell and sell at whatever the market will bring. I will never understand why someone would “hold out” for “their” price unless they aren’t earnestly trying to sell.
I prefer these types of videos. TH-cam is full of sailing channels, but what you're doing now, market research, talking about offers, etc, very few are doing that which makes it soooo much more valuable. I still watch the occasional normal sailing video, but yours are probably the only ones I'm excited to watch, as I'm casually in the market as well.
ITts why I'm still watching - seeing misrepresentation is alive and well and market data - it's why I wouldn't wanna fly half way round the world. I'm in UK would consider Europe but going off to Asia or Pacific isn't an option... specifically as one of the reasons I want a sailboat is to travel the world without having to use planes! Would make no sense to rack up 20k miles just to get the boat first!
Sorry to hear you keep getting sick. I know my sailing plans were derailed going into retirement. Cindy, my wife of 26 years, had one more year left before retiring. I hope you didn't do what my wife did back in 2020. She was the only one in my family to line up for it and a second round, not even my 70s parents did it. Afterwards my wife kept having one illness after another, always getting sick from something. I now have found myself as a widow at 55. Do everything you can do, naturally, to stay healthy. Even though you haven't found you vessel, I'm enjoying your world traveling.
I hear ya...it was an e vile glow ball a jen duh ... And it's done with the practice round and gearing up for the LIVE EVENTS... I hope you're ready solid metals and whatever else you consider important
I miss the sailing videos, but more than that I just want to see you guys happy. I appreciate the videos and insight you guys provide even if they are not always about how to fix something on a boat. Keep the positive vibes flowing and we will all keep watching!
Your analysis is interesting, another point in your favour is the number of youtube sailors that are simply building new vessels. The problem with boats is that they are like cottages, valuable to the people who own them but far less so to the people looking to buy one. Brokers don't help the process and have little inclination to do anything. They get paid if the boat sells but only if they were retained by the client. High-priced boats in your listing show you have inventory. the best brokers are those who have high turnover. Good luck
Nick & Kelly are " The One," thank you for plugging us into your Matrix. We like being with you even if you do not have a boat at the moment. Chins up, there are a lot of people routing for you... Sometimes you get shown the light in the strangest of places if you look at it right.
I have always found that the best boats to sail on are other people's boats. I have spent months living and sailing in other people's boats, I just bring the food and the booze and help with the chores. It's a whole lot less expensive and much less stress than owning. I have had even more success flying other people's airplanes. I have all my ratings and stay current. I've probably saved $1 million over the past 10 years.
Could you guys summarize the past few years for us? How many offers you have placed, countries visited looking at boats? How many offers were accepted? And how many of those boats are still on the market? How many declined offers have reached out later to try to bring you back to the table? It’s all very interesting insights into the market. Thanks for all that you share!
Full data is available to clients, but I’ll give you the entertaining numbers…seen 26, 7 deals, 3.5 surveys. Only three boats we offered on and were declined then subsequently sold for more than we offered. How many countries….lol. A lot.
I’m with you! Schlepping the gear from new/different country/international airports where you’ve never been, you guys are troopers. You know, when i drift off to sleep I remember a typical day on the hook in a shallow leeward Bahamian anchorage. I think it went wake up, swim, coffee, breaky, sewing seat covers, tacos, swim, beach, wine, jazzy guitar, g’night.zzz repeat - something like that. We have come a long way and we wouldn’t have guessed what you have done since. I feel like we are all richer for your work and willingness to share and impressed by your resolve.
@Vallecaucanisimo just to make clear, from my part it was an honest question, not criticism. For example, would you rather go for a boat that's $50K cheaper but located on the other side of the world or go for a closer one that's more expensive? Or maybe a smaller but new(er) one? Once one budgets the cost of flying, accommodation, and the opportunity cost of time I'm not sure what the answer is. What I do know is that if something sounds too good to be true (e.g. way below comparative listings), it usually is.
Great to see a video from you guys, its been awhile. Personally I have never been in the market for a cat, I'm strictly mono. The monohull market has much more to offer and at much better prices. Just something to consider.
I decided to build a boat, as I wanted to keep my properties so I'm not in the $1M range but definitely in the $300K range, I made this decision as I want a passive income while I sail away
I would ask that you give some details of why all your deals went bust. Like the ridiculous contract, or maybe how old they were, maybe say if it was a custom build and too risky. I understand you don’t want to divulge too much for all sorts of reasons, but you’re leaving all of us wondering in suspense.
@@playb4work447 they were pretty clear that it was misrepresentation of a boat’s condition, and completely unacceptable terms. If you want the details, maybe engage them to assist you in your search? Or someone else? Unless you’re very experienced, it’s probably the way to go.
100% agree with your take on the market. Cats are listing for higher prices now than they were 5 years ago. Not to mention some of them are 20+ years old and asking more than they were new. Sellers are fooling themselves. Anyway, my investment accounts have quadrupled in the meantime. Maybe prices will be back to reality in another 2.5 years.
It would be one thing if these boats were selling, but they aren’t. I have to correct myself…some are still selling at “unusual” prices, but many are just sitting. I think that there just aren’t as many buyers out there now…or at at least as many “I want that boat, no matter the cost” buyers out there. Will be interesting to see how this shakes out.
@@TheOKellys I started looking in 2022, while in Antarctica, and immediately stumbled onto the O'Kellys...I can't help but to think that some of the market inflation is due to the effective and expanding success of the O'Kellys. We seekers now know cats are, well, preferred, especially for novices (like me). I do admire the freedom and apparent nonchalance you carry through your life/lifestyle. And of course, I hang on every video you 'Tube. Keep them coming!!!
It is precisely because investments are doing well that luxury prices are staying high. It'll take a market downturn for the prices to come down. Otherwise the owners have no pressure to turn assets into cash.
Honestly sounds like a good move. I've been hunting for a sailboat and, despite a glut of inventory, the prices are remaining high. I think a lot of people got into the sailing life during the pandemic and now that it's (largely) over, they're getting back to real life...but they want a return on their investment as if it were an amortizing house and not a big, depreciating vehicle. Looking forward to hearing about your journey from here on, boat or no
As I sit here drinking my coffee while watching your video, I’m pondering what would be the perfect boat for you both. I hear you like performance cruiser catamarans. How trendy. And spendy. But is that your perfect boat? Wouldn’t you be that much happier if you lived on a barge with its very own taco truck? Add an airstream and a few tonnes of sand and you wouldn’t even need to get in your dinghy to go to the beach. You like the perks of a 24’ beam? Imagine what a 100’ beam would be like. I bet that combo would be more than 50% cheaper. And when hurricane season comes, you just hook your taco truck up to the airstream and your happy place goes wherever you do.
Excellent video, so correct. we are in the same situation. Sold our smaller cat to upgrade (2 years ago) and the prices are so over heated. I have been keeping a very close eye on the market (here in Australia) and cats are more or less 100k over priced. Be silly enough to pay those prices and you will take the financial hit on the other end. My wife and I are now "Out' of the market. No longer even looking and there is a real freedom to that.
If you know the boat market, i say you can sell a boat at any price used but doesnt mean its going to sell. Your probably in a better place if you know and have been seeing prices the prices will come down in price if they havent sold in a while on boat market
Funny how some people look at life. Obviously with all the thumbs up, I suppose you all share this sentiment. But let me enlighten you. Your assumption is that any time and money not spent on a boat is a waste. What an impoverished viewpoint. First of all, we have learned more about different boats, builders, designs and designers than we could EVER have had we purchased another boat right way. Secondly, we have spent incredible time with friends we’d NEVER have met other than through looking for our next boat. Same goes with all sorts of non-boating-related experiences. Last, as the boat market is shifting exactly as we expected, while the stock market has been better than we could have hoped for, financially we are way way way ahead of where we’d be if we’d bought a boat close to the top of the market 18-24 months ago. So…friends, life works out the way it does…being grateful for what does happen and NOT ungrateful or even regretful is the only way to be. Your thesis that we have somehow wasted time or money or both…doesn’t hold for us.
Nicely worded response. Like my mom says, nothing learnt is ever wasted. And as many savvy investors have pointed out, sometimes you save more from the things you don’t buy than the “bargains” you do.
Guessing you guys aren’t interested in making weekly videos as you travel around the world…sharing location sites/info on the different countries u go to. I love seeing different countries I will never see in person.
You guy’s just want to let you know, I am in same situation as you …!!! I sold about a year ago at TOP of market “ridiculous “100k more than I paid for the boat in 2017…7 years I owned it..this is an incredible bubble.. about to pop.. !!!!! Hold off one more year
A 58 ft Catamaran is a HUGE boat. My boat is a 34 x 14 foot cat and it is still a condo. Two actual double berths and queen size master. I am 6' 5" tall and the entire boat fits me well. Compared to a similar length monohull, well, there is no comparison. Have owned both. Love the cat.
I love the simply life of freedom you have. I especially like your simple honesty. So many boater videos are contrived. Fake. Funny thing about lying like that. It leads to insanity. You are no longer connected to reality. Why? You start to believe your own lies. You tell it straight. I love that. I am living a simple life as well. I love it.
The money joke was funny. Didn't cross my mind as insensitive or tone-deaf but I can see how it could be PERCEIVED as gauche. I'm in the same position but with a house. I'm doing ok financially but housing is absurd. I'm with y'all in spirit. Love the vids. They are getting more entertaining and I hope you get a cat soon. :D
OMGOSH I loved this video for so many reason! The introduction, was a grand slam! I just love your humor and could watch for hours! Enjoy your travel.❤
I *love* it when sponsors turn out to be real, useful products that apply to my life. I've been in 5 countries this year, and dealing with getting a SIM was a hassle one way or the other in most (all?) of them. Thank you so much for a very cool product I didn't know about!
Wouldn't it be more cost effective to pay someone from the local yaghting community to look at the boat for obvious misrepresentation before you travel? I'm happy to see a new video, but the some of it is too artsy for my taste.
Key points, budget, lifestyle and expectations. 500k boat 500k investments and a bank account to support that. Having freedom to be flexible to change is so important. A budget to maintain both must be a priority with expectations or All of it can be lost. Nick I don't like parking garages. Megan I hope this cycle of being sick finally passes. 2025 is around the corner. The current status of the world is going to be determined then. IT has to. Folks can't afford what is happening today. Over value by inflation isn't good. Most that have investments can't afford to take it out because taxes and inflation is going to eat it up. Love you guys ❤️ keeping everyone informed is so awesome.
That’s kind of like the housing market too. It’s the highest, most unaffordable in a long time. Good time to sell if you can get your price, but bad time to be buying.
The Excess 11 is such a slow boat, one has entered races in Southern California and it finishes last even amongst monohulls in the race or it quits and motors back to harbor.
If it doesn't sell in 90 days, boat, house, car, whatever, it either hasn't been marketed properly, or the seller is asking too much. Yes, it is that simple.
90 days…with as much cash is floating free in the economy right now….with the internet exposing every interested party in a matter of minutes…. I would say if your X for sale isn’t at least being looked at in a week or so with a serious offer in two weeks…you are misunderstanding the market significantly.
i think just shows you if you want a boat you have to actually look at it in person because pictures and write ups may not be what you think after all.
You guys have as much good luck fishing as you are finding a new boat. Your fans are rooting for you, though, and I'm sure you will find your new home in due time. God bless.
Nice to see that you are getting “ buckets list travel experiences accomplished! A few thoughts. 1. Are you getting local surveyors to do a “ walk through” before flying to view the vessels? Sadly, many photos and descriptions are quite aged. 2. Thoughts on building, or having built, your own vessel. You have a pretty good idea of what you desire. A few of your friends are currently in that sphere. What are your thoughts, plus and minuses? 3. If you had unlimited resources, ie, you won the lottery, before retiring to the island you purchased in the San Juan Islands, what would you buy/build? 4. Next time you travel to Vancouver Island, let’s get you out fishing Chinook and Halibut!
We’ve tried it all. No substitute for inspecting in person. Unlimited funds, would definitely design and build. We will at some point do exactly that. Will see ya in the hood one day for sure! Love it up there
I'm glad to see you make choices that are good for you. Being adaptable is key. Many of us enjoy your visits (videos) because we enjoy your company. Enjoy life and bring us along.
Actively watching cat prices since late last year, even the charter market sale prices are dropping (sort of stalled currently due to the summer hype, but will probably fall a bit more before the end of the year) on Leopards and Lagoons (can still even find some 2016 to 2019 powercats in the 40-50' range for under $500k if you're willing to look at former charter boats as well). The last pandemic was just one cause of the huge rush on supply, and now folks are realizing how expensive boats are, and/or have to adjust because of other financial or employment issues. So there is now actually a rather large supply of boats out there, as long as you're not chasing brands, but we all know cats will always be more expensive than a monohull.
That was a very interesting perspective on the catamaran market. Also that's great that you are not charging your patrons while not making sailing vids. Hope you find your ideal boat soon.
"I'm scared of heights!" Takes the window seat... For 50 years I've taken your approach: Look, look, look, look, BUY. Always maintaining a high knowledge of what you like, what's available, and prices, when a good deal pops up, there's little hesitation.
The money is indeed doing well! Cheers, O'Kelly's! We're finally on a little catamaran (38' Ocean Twins, 1 of 3 produced from Pat Patterson, who also designed the Heavenly Twins). By no means is it a performance cat, but it seems to be a great place to call home and cruise around. The market is doing a fantastic job of paying for a few little needed upgrades, but the boat market? Yeah, you guys nailed it. We were set on over 40' until I stumbled on this reasonably priced little gem. Anything over 40' is 2-3x the price, without the build quality to back up such price points. Good luck, on your continued search! I'll be happy to buy you guys a beverage or brew up a good cup of coffee if ever we cross paths. Thanks for the content.
We bought a new catamaran for charter for a few years then to cruise. The market has been crazy as the older cats are selling for more than owners paid! So many new cats are going to charter programs to replace older boats and ones destroyed by hurricanes (saint thomas)-500+ lost? So prices have escalated so much.
Well, without picking on anyone in particular, I feel pretty darn rotten for some of these folks dealing with what looks like poor quality right out of the factory. It is doubly tough if you are going through this in public as we all are to certain extent with all this social media. Doubly hard because you don’t want to give your huge investment (boat) a bad reputation and you also (probably) want to keep a good relationship with the people you hope will fix the boat. But yeh…man o man I think I’d be lawyering up if I were a couple of these owners…
Take a step back, deep breath, and exhale slowly! With a clear mind and clear eyes, you assess the situation, as you have been, and look to do what’s right for YOU! You guys are making the right moves. When one rushes into situations without analyzing it, it usually turns out regrettable. It’s a good thing to take out that pressure of making sailing videos. IMO travel videos are like sailing videos, you’re just focusing more on travel than sailing. 😉. Cheers 🍻
I am on my way to Anitgua to survey a boat. Not 5 minutes before I watched this video I set up my Airalo account and bought the plan. Happy to see you back on the interwebs, bummed you still haven't found a boat. Good Luck!
Not misrepresented, under 250 k , South african 39 " island cat" with plenty of space, semi custom one of a kind and only model nowadays in the US , turn heads everywhere for style and individuality! Get it now, will NOT be disappointed Ready to sell and pass on the honey Yep,sails fast too while well balanced, definitely not a production boat! Get in touch el ugo
I guess my question is why are you still looking for a catamaran, why not a bigger monohull so you can go sailing. I think the problem with the catamaran market is one the brokers want the max commission they can get but two people bought boats at high prices and financed them so they can’t sell them at a loss.
I'm here bc I love you guys. IDC if it's sailing, travel and adventure, or just whatever. When you post, I know I'm going to enjoy it. Keep doing you, dearlings! Much love!
I’ve watched another channel that had a Canadian who was going to sail his boat from Japan to Canada. After buying the boat in Japan he found out you can’t take a boat registered in Japan out of there. You can’t sail past a certain amount of miles from the mainland. I would be careful buying a Japanese boat.
I know that if I sold my 20 year old Catana 431 (Fully outfitted for circumnavigations) at a fair price, it would probably cost me another 100k to 200k on top of the sale proceeds to buy something equivalent, albeit probably a bit newer. So I am holding on to my Catana and realizing how fortunate I am to have a decent built and fun sailing boat. Also committing to long term ownership as full time live aboard cruisers, it's easier to justify the continuous costs for upgrades.
So if I understand you correctly, essentially what you are saying is that if you sell for what your boat is worth, you can’t purchase another boat for what it’s worth because it is overpriced. That scenario, if true, makes this market quite precarious, don’t you think? For prices to remain stable, both you and the (undefined) other seller require new market participants to maintain demand, or at least more demand than current production can satisfy. Do you think that new market participants are arriving right now? IDK….The perception, especially among smaller brands like Catana, is that there are more buyers than sellers. But is that true? I believe there are something like 7 471(/2)s for sale right now, with another one withdrawn from the market after a year of not selling. A lot of hose boats have been for sale for a long time. So, is there anything but a lack of selling pressure holding asking prices up? Makes me think of Wile E. Coyote, chasing after the Road Runner, who cruises around a sharp corner while poor old Wile E. misses the turn but takes a moment before recognizing he’s run off a cliff…holding a rock.
0:59 The slapping on waves. The huge price tag. The huge cost of dockage (a slip). More time repairing and maintaining. But then, the flatter ride. The huge(r) space, inside & out. Double (?) the speed. 🤷 plus +++--- 😐 14:10 What did the contract say? bullet points❓️
Q: I'm looking for boats and there seems to be loads coming off charter in the Med around Greece / Croatia / Italy often tax free as they've been held inside a company. (Yes I know you have to pay tax somewhere - but it means you won't be paying it twice). Have you considered setting up base there for a few months waiting for the right deal as then you're only an hours flight away max. I'm sure you'll get a lot of patrons / viewers will ing to take you out on sails too! OR is there something fundamentally wrong with ex charter boats (other than obviously more engine hours and wear and tear).
I can't imagine the level of frustration (and the cost!) of going around the world looking for a suitable boat like you guys have done for a fairly long time now...
If someone selling a boat materially misrepresents the condition of the boat, as in your example you used of a boat with grossly misstated engine hours, why don’t you reveal these scoundrels? We’d love to see exactly why and how these owners and/or brokers are trying to cheat you and others. Save some poor schmuck the pain and cost of that trip to Tahiti for a fraud.
Well, they do a good job of indemnifying themselves on their listings. So they hide behind the IDK or I Don’t Know clause. lol. You know we thought about digging in a bit this time, making an example…nothing to stop us…it’s all true…but then we thought you know, that just stirs up a bunch of negative feelings and shames THIS particular broker and seller. But to be of true service to this community we thought it better to warn you that THIS TYPE OF THING is going on in the brokerage business, so whoever you are, wherever you are thinking of buying whatever it is…be careful! The sharks are feeding!
@@TheOKellys "caveat emptor" !!! I would like to add that I commend you for not seeking financial gain from your Patreons until you resume making sailing videos again - A classy move from two classy people x
We did this 3x traveled were under contract twice, but it ended up not being the right time. We’re gonna wait two more years when our kids are out of the house and then we’re gonna try again. :)
I've been in this hole myself! On three boats not too dissimilar to what you seem to be looking at - although I'm a bit lower budget but we seem to have fairly similar approaches to things ....knowing well how the market seems to be, have had fairly cheeky offers accepted, only to arrive to find quite seriously misrepresented boats! 😢 Wondering though - if you've looked at any of the open series Nautitechs? I know you had a mention and interview of an older 47 I sailed an open 40 the other week and found is very pleasant - I'd imagine similar but maybe a little quicker than your Leopard ....would be very interested in your opinion if you got on one for a snoop - or even better a sail!
I'm looking at a 46' Bahia Fountaine Pajot. Gorgeous boat. I love cats because they are faster and much more spacious. And this version of Fountaine Pajot is a true bluewater cat.
You are right. People don't want to lose any money at all so the asking prices are far too high (generally). And the "name" brands, like Outremer, are over priced, period. I have always been a fan of the (well built) Mavericks but they are over priced too. Oh well! I am now boat-less (thankfully) and will remain so because I am now over 70 (with money in my pocket because I am boat-less). So, I fly where I want to go and do what I want to do. Next trip: To Islay and Speyside to drink Scotch; which I would not be able to do on a catamaran.
In the last video, you guys made a vague reference to the fact that you were under contract for a "performance boat down south". Just wondering what happened. Your data collection is excellent and I agree with your decision to wait to buy. With 58% of catamarans selling for less than $300,000 over the past 4 years, I can see a market developing for less expensive, entry-level cats made by the legacy catamaran builders. If I see an ad for a new, inexpensive O'Kelly catamaran, you owe me lunch for the idea 😂😂
Which boat did you look at in Australia? Give me a hint, I have been scrupulously looking at cats for the last 18 months, its nice to see prices dropped by up to 25% on individual cats.
Great video guys - BUT … The question buyers should ask is this … Why do I want to buy a boat ? Forget about investment - it needs to be about lifestyle ! We had a family member wanting to go sailing - he wanted to sail the world and be free! But - there was always one more deal and one more opportunity in business and the chance for a ‘better buy’. He suddenly and unexpectedly was diagnosed with cancer and had 6 months to live - so at any price he bought a 47 ft catamaran and fitted it out fast as possible to live his dream! But boats being boats - it takes time to set it up the way one really wants to set it up and so he never got to actually untie the lines. Why - money can’t buy time ! So how much value does one place on time … Just a thought because at the end of the day folks who aren’t prepared to pay in money could end up paying huge in time and after all - looking at market trends is a false economy because boats are all at different levels of ‘set up ‘ and an owner who isn’t in financial duress won’t give something away he’s invested huge money into to bring the craft to being as close to perfect a cruising boat he can . Anyway my friends - I say this with respect and hopefully something of value for people looking - as you guys say ‘you do you’ and for me I think differently in the sense that I’d be careful not pass this world over analyzing the situation ! We’ve recently seen a massive spate in new owners and people contacting us to ask about costs to set boats up to be homes on the water . In New Caledonia with the recent unrest people were chartering boats to take them to away to other countries due to the airport being shut down - folks moved their families onto their catamarans and sat at anchor waiting to depart if they needed to - others called us to say they want to buy catamarans and can we make recommendations because they want to sell their homes and live on a cat at the dock, fully stocked and ready to sail ! In our second circumnavigation here in Brazil - on the way we’ve seen a HUGE amount of families sailing h from South Africa with possessions onboard heading for countries like Brazil, Uruguay and Argentina - they say they will live on their boats and work on land but always be ready to move. And this could be trend to the future - the world is an uncertain place and I think this could change the dynamic of ‘the norm’ as it did in Covid ! But these are just thoughts and the vibes we are picking up on the ocean through people writing to us ! In the end - buyers need to assess how much time they will invest in spreadsheets and how much time they are willing to gain in days on the deep blue ! Cheers guys
We agree with your thesis here. The most quoted passage in my book is, “you can always make more money, but you can never make more time.” However, you are assuming something that isn’t true, for us at least. You are assuming that the only life we can truly enjoy is a life on the water, in our own boat. We enjoy a lot of different things in life. We have seen things, done things, met incredible people BECAUSE we sold our boat and haven’t been able to buy the next one…yet. So yeh, no doubt it would suck to have a lifelong dream unfulfilled when time turns out less than expected. That happened to folks close to us as well. But if we got the six month countdown tomorrow, we wouldn’t buy a boat. We’d spend our last days in the presence of friends and family. Thankfully, many have boats. Cheers.
@@TheOKellys That's fantastic guys - obviously you're living life fulfilled no matter water based or land ! You're blessed in this sense and certainly without being in a rush makes this easier. Perhaps I got confused with all the flying around and looking at boats which had me thinking you were really working hard to get back on the water . I admire your saying “you can always make more money, but you can never make more time" and certainly this is something true to all of us . Keep living life in the 'happy zone' 😊❤
We've got several years before we head out on our own journey, so we're crossing our fingers that the market corrects by then. 😅 Would love to see more footage from Japan, but happy to watch any "travel-vlogs" before you get back to sailing. Cheers!

Thank you. We’d like to thank the academy, our agents Bert and Ernie, Robert Townsend, and all the boys down at Teamsters local 109… Lol, thank you. What’s life without a chuckle?
We really appreciate the information you supply regarding the boat market. Thank you for all your efforts and for staying grounded and realistic. You really do supply valuable content, keep it up!!
I agree with your analysis, I am tracking a number of overpriced boats, they just are not moving without a significant price drop. I think a lot of COVID buyers who bought an overpriced boat during the crazy COVID boat market are mentally not ready for the depreciation
@@theyshouldhavenevergivenme5439 - hahahaha - says a guy who does not own a boat!
Well you for sure saved money and can manage a large monohull solo safer than a large cat. You won't have any issues repairing it in asia. Or anywhere for that matter.
Wow these people have cost you a lot of money with false information shame you can’t name and shame who knows how many others will be caught out
@@theyshouldhavenevergivenme5439 what are you talking about?
Agreed 100%
Well dang! Thank you!
@@1truthseeking8 Solid shiny metals are good, all other investments are not IMHO.
My grandfather's health plummeted afterwards. Made it two weeks. Sorry to hear that, man.
That right there is the truth! Thank you.
Cool of you to demonetize for awhile. Still, drop a video now and then please. We were worried by the long interval.
Well said!
Exactly what we do on our friends boat and then we walk when the day is over.
Gotta say, I really miss your sailing videos, but just seeing you guys living your life makes me smile too.
Take good care.
At which point does the cost of flying around the world exceed any savings from going for a used one?
Bingo.
I don’t understand why they don’t hire someone to check out the boats before they travel such a long distance?
Because they‘re still under the impression that they‘ll make that super duper deal that everybody else didn‘t find… 🤗
But that would be a boring video wouldn’t it.
The intro! THE INTRO! I thought the therapist session was genius but this beats it hands down 😂😂😂
Great to see a video from you guys, its been awhile.
I second that. I really want to know what was in the contract.
I also want to know how sellers misrepresented the boat.
Would love to see language examples from Outremer and this latest one that helped push them away
Don’t you all have your own lives to live? How can this possibly be so important to you?
@@grammarboy1318
For me it’s a learning process about buying boats since I’ll be in the market soon. I’m also a very curious person.
@@playb4work447 they were pretty clear that it was misrepresentation of a boat’s condition, and completely unacceptable terms. If you want the details, maybe engage them to assist you in your search? Or someone else? Unless you’re very experienced, it’s probably the way to go.
The most important things are being healthy and happy. However, we all hope you find the right boat for you👍👍👍👍👍
Agreed!
That Austin Healey 3000 was gorgeous.
As long as you spend your time doing what you want, then you're getting the most for your money!
What I want to know is, what is your dreamboat ? You’ve looked at dozens of boats now, is the Outremer 55 your ultimate? The ORC 57? The HH 55?
Definitely none of those.
The money spent flying around looking for a boat, plus the money spent on the right deal would have bought the best you looked at!
This channel is very frustrating. Promises promises. Never deliver.
I'm sure they'll let you borrow their crystal ball when they're done with it, oh..wait..
Interested, maybe…just not very good at it

Would also like that.

Ahhh, Sharon, thank you. Appreciate the sentiment. We will keep posting, but feel like a deal is a deal.
I love it.
Thank you so much, it really is the only way to live. Always appreciate your comments, be well!
Thank you so much!!
Helping people get into cruising is probably even more valuable than actually sailing content.
I *love* it when sponsors turn out to be real, useful products that apply to my life. I've been in 5 countries this year, and dealing with getting a SIM was a hassle one way or the other in most (all?) of them. Thank you so much for a very cool product I didn't know about!
You’re going to love Airalo!
Love your integrity and transparency. Hoping the right boat is just around the corner. Happy you’re enjoying life in the meantime!
We are. Life is amazing.
God bless.
I Just enjoy following you guys regardless of what you're doing or wherever you are in the world. 💕
Don't forget to slurp your noodles! Was in Japan on a cruise most of this March, so clean, neat and tidy. Enjoy
I appreciate that!
We soooo want you guys to get a boat!! Miss those old videos and also want you two to be happy on the water again
I liked the video. Cruising does not require owning a boat. Have you considered buying back Clarity?
That was a very interesting perspective on the catamaran market. Also that's great that you are not charging your patrons while not making sailing vids. Hope you find your ideal boat soon.
"I'm scared of heights!" Takes the window seat...
For 50 years I've taken your approach: Look, look, look, look, BUY. Always maintaining a high knowledge of what you like, what's available, and prices, when a good deal pops up, there's little hesitation.
Hope springs eternal, following.
Love you guys ! Sure hope you’re able to find a boat soon . But enjoy watching your travels !
Was the "green pill/powder" a shot at all the "influencers" hocking AG1?
We bought a new catamaran for charter for a few years then to cruise. The market has been crazy as the older cats are selling for more than owners paid! So many new cats are going to charter programs to replace older boats and ones destroyed by hurricanes (saint thomas)-500+ lost? So prices have escalated so much.
Oh, tell me more. With details this time. What boat and where? And how have your charter revs been this year and last? Things looking good?
Great update! Thanks for the "Market Report". Staying tuned...
would love your opinion on the quality of new boats that people are wrestling with.
😉. Cheers 🍻
Love that. Thank you

Wish you guys the best. Enjoyed the update.
Wife and I really curious as to why you sold the last catamaran? I know it’s likely been covered… Appreciate your response!
Thanks as always for the update.
@23:00 Don Street famously said, "if you wait for the perfect boat you will never go cruising".
🤷 plus +++--- 😐
14:10 What did the contract say? bullet points❓️
FYI, airlines commonly use pesticides with permethrins to kill potential bugs which can cause respiratory issues.
Thank you! Your reasoning has help me a lot mentally, yes hard time to find the right boat at the right price.
Thank again guys 😉
Q: I'm looking for boats and there seems to be loads coming off charter in the Med around Greece / Croatia / Italy often tax free as they've been held inside a company. (Yes I know you have to pay tax somewhere - but it means you won't be paying it twice). Have you considered setting up base there for a few months waiting for the right deal as then you're only an hours flight away max. I'm sure you'll get a lot of patrons / viewers will ing to take you out on sails too! OR is there something fundamentally wrong with ex charter boats (other than obviously more engine hours and wear and tear).
That Healey in Oz was worth that leg of the trip!
Enjoy every day. Time is not guaranteed.
All the best to both of you on this journey of life.
I hope you find whatever it is you both are looking for.

I can't imagine the level of frustration (and the cost!) of going around the world looking for a suitable boat like you guys have done for a fairly long time now...
Oh we been having a good time. Time of our lives actually. No worries.

I've been in this hole myself! I sailed an open 40 the other week and found is very pleasant - I'd imagine similar but maybe a little quicker than your Leopard ....would be very interested in your opinion if you got on one for a snoop - or even better a sail!
Still with you...
@@billwilliams9527 Thanks Bill!
guys, why don't you buy an airline?
Good vid on the current market. You don't need a boat to sail through life.
Yes, it’s interesting how the tide turns at some point deep in the psyche. It all becomes so clear. Enjoy your scotch.
It's just good to see you two. Whatever you do you make it interesting. Stay well!
Boats are an investment, a bad investment, but still an investment. As with any investment you buy low, smart decision to wait it out
Great video guys - BUT …
The question buyers should ask is this …
Why do I want to buy a boat ?
Forget about investment - it needs to be about lifestyle !
We had a family member wanting to go sailing - he wanted to sail the world and be free!
But - there was always one more deal and one more opportunity in business and the chance for a ‘better buy’.
He suddenly and unexpectedly was diagnosed with cancer and had 6 months to live - so at any price he bought a 47 ft catamaran and fitted it out fast as possible to live his dream!
But boats being boats - it takes time to set it up the way one really wants to set it up and so he never got to actually untie the lines. Why - money can’t buy time !
So how much value does one place on time …
Just a thought because at the end of the day folks who aren’t prepared to pay in money could end up paying huge in time and after all - looking at market trends is a false economy because boats are all at different levels of ‘set up ‘ and an owner who isn’t in financial duress won’t give something away he’s invested huge money into to bring the craft to being as close to perfect a cruising boat he can .
The most quoted passage in my book is, “you can always make more money, but you can never make more time.”
However, you are assuming something that isn’t true, for us at least.
Cheers!
Ok!
"...and the award for best homespun production cinematography, music, and editing in the Travelogue category goes to: O'Kellys!"
Keep being you, and thank you again for these marvelous tours of your journeys, by whatever means you take them at the time.
Thank you. We’d like to thank the academy, our agents Bert and Ernie, Robert Townsend, and all the boys down at Teamsters local 109…
Lol, thank you. What’s life without a chuckle?
Would it not be cheaper to ask someone Independent undercover at each site to take a look before you travel
Good luck. Always enjoyed your videos. You do a quality assessments on a topic that nobody covers. Thanks, I'm sure something will shake out
We really appreciate the information you supply regarding the boat market. Thank you for all your efforts and for staying grounded and realistic. You really do supply valuable content, keep it up!!
Glad to help!
I agree with your analysis, I am tracking a number of overpriced boats, they just are not moving without a significant price drop. I think a lot of COVID buyers who bought an overpriced boat during the crazy COVID boat market are mentally not ready for the depreciation
