You need a Ragdoll or two! Mine loves to be hugged like a baby (being burped) while he makes bread on your neck (trim those nails)! And loves kisses on his forehead ~ they are WONDERFUL!

I got my first rag doll kitten about a month ago. She wasn't the most socialized kitten when I brought her home. My past cats loved to be picked up like a baby. So I was at a loss when she didn't fit the stereotype of a rag doll going limp when picked up. She stays close to me and follows me around but wouldn't let me hold her. But I'm so excited now, I used your carrying technique and she is great with it!! Even though she sleeps on her back and loves a good belly rub, she is more comfy with being carried upright. One arm between the legs, upright and my other arm free to pet her. Thank You so much!!

I had trouble picking up my new adoptee, too! He was usually so sweet, but would yowl and even scratch, at first! I found out he had dermatitis so he had pain and itching when I put my hand over the base of his tail. This trick helped me immensely!
@@FloppycatsThanks so much! My new cat actually got aggressive when I picked him up before. I found out it’s dermatitis at the base of his tail, and picking him up between the legs (as you demonstrated) has made handling him easy. Now he’s more trusting.

@@Floppycats My Regnal is a “cat scarf” (shoulder rider) too! And, of course, I have a bad neck but ANYTHING for him. He is such a lovey. I’m feeding him a grain free diet and rotating novel protein sources like lamb, buffalo, and duck. Unfortunately, allergic cats can develop allergies to anything they eat often enough. This presents a challenge because cats have definite preferences, and mine have all been creatures of habit, with favorite foods they want every day. He’s been doing very well with Churu grain free treats, and they do provide good nutrition but are expensive! His sores are healing up. I am looking for other things he likes, so I can change it up so he continues to tolerate them. He is not a Ragdoll, but looks like one, with his fluff and flame points. He has some of the behavior, as well…likes being held like a baby and is very affectionate. I had a Ragamuffin (Hilda) who was even more laid back, but she didn’t have rashes biting at her skin. Poor Regnal…he acted like something was attacking him when he got here. He was looking around to see who it was. Thus, the displaced aggression. Now that I am learning how not to irritate it, he sees that I don’t want to cause him any pain. I have Autism Spectrum Disorder, which comes with sensory issues, and allergies. I also get allergic dermatitis, and I’m glad we found each other. I know his behavior and personality are not the problem. Thank you for your kind reply. I subscribed! 💚🐈

I always lift and hug a cat with its tail covering the ass.
i used to do that - but my cat, charlie, hates his tail restricted, so i changed it up and found they like it more.
And all of my cats want their hind -ends supported, too. The ragdoll wants that tail in my face though no matter what! She is very proud of the boa tail she sports and uses it like sign language.
I first watched this when Fluffy was 4-5 months old and I learned so much about how to handle my ragdoll kitty. Fluff is very much like Trigg and he doesn't love being picked up, but this is where I learned to do it respectfully and calmly. He's nearly 18 months old now and I still get so much out of this video. Thanks Jenny!!!

Haii, Im a member of a ragdoll cat web wich means i own one, shes AMAZING! your videos inspired me to take a look at adopting ragdolls ( im in love with them at the moment) we went to this breeder and was able to adopt a Chocolate Seal Point female, we named her Nika and she is the most SILLIEST SILLY LITTLE GOOSIE GOOSE I HAVE EVEN SEEN! and trust me, ive seen alot! we got to visit the litter before they got spayed ( if thats how you spell it) and then when we had to leave, Nika tried to come out of the house with us. so we had to go pick her up a few months later, we got in the breeders house and put the cat basket down, immediately Nika and two of her brothers got into the carrier and cried, i isntantly knew what they were saying.. " Bring us all, we are ready. " its wierd.. and then yesterday my little brother and his friend were squeezign the cat and everything, i had tea and toast in my hand when i saw this, i instantly dropped the tea and toast on the ground, crumbs got everywhere and the mught broke with tea all over the place, nika looked at me and my mind said as if she wasy saying.. " Come.. Come.. Come.. Please help me. " its wierd, i've never had it with any of my animals, i hate calling them pets.. it feels wrong for some reason. my Kitten is like.. my best friend.. my closest ANYTHING! I feel like i can just be myself around my cat, shes a lifesaver.. i used to suffer from extreme despression and got bullied in school, but as soon as we got my cat, i was so happy i got to carry her in the house, she changed my life.. she fixed everything, shes currently on my lap sleeping, im also holding her paws and head im my left arm, so im writing with one hand. Nika is currently 10 months old and keeps growing, shes already colouring deeply and is ADORABLE! Thanks for inspiring me and my family to get a ragdoll, you have LITERALLY saved my life, you and my cat are my heroes, i couldnt thank you enough
I used to pick up Snowball and Rocky like Amy does at 3:54. Personally, I wouldn't put my arm between their hind legs because I don't want any "skid marks"!
ha ha ha - i would say skid marks happen about 5% of the time. charlie really dislikes being held any other way.

Since our cat likes to randomly bite/claw when she's had enough cuddles, I personally hold her like a baby belly up so i can see her cute eyes and she can't storm off, also hold over the shoulder a lot, safe distance from face lol. She just hates being picked up and stuff but loves to be near us all. :)

Mine is a tuxedo colored rag and he is like your Treg. Manchew is always trying to launch himself when being picked up. The best way to hold him is baby style with his legs up. He only allows that for a small bit because he has a hard time sitting still. I call him my ADHD kitty, lol!

Happy to see how comfortably straight they are being held. I think keeping their spines straight is important with such a heavy cat, and i try not to put pressure solely on their stomachs too!

I love your channel always the best advice for rag owners. I just tried your pick up method and it worked well. He was calmer than usually I used to pick him up like a baby, cradle style but this way is better he feels more secure.

I always learn something new whenever I watch one of your videos.
I have a 19.5 year old Ragdoll cat, but I have always picked cats up a bit differently - I put my hand underneath her front paws, so that I do not put any pressure on her chest when I lift her up. I think that is MUCH more comfortable for any cat than have her entire weight hang on her chest for those few seconds. The back part I also pick up like you do, Ragdolls do love to be held like this and love tummy rubs.

I guess in the carrying aspect, Trigg's the least like a ragdoll cat, in being a 'floppycat'. Well, he is an active cat, so it does make sense. Still, this video was super cute, with all the carrying and the cuddling!

I actually pick my ragdoll up like I'm giving him w hug and licks my ear. And when that ear is done he will go under my chin to the other ear. 15 years old and no health issues so far...knock on wood :/

3:36 I just started doing that with my ragdoll mix about a month ago. He likes being held, but after a few minutes he meows to be let down. When I drape him over my shoulders (he's so fluffy and in this weather he really keeps me warm, plus he's only 7 pounds) he won't get down unless I make him. I can go about my buisness and he just lays there. So soft!

I am so sorry for your loss - I lost a cat I adored on 12/12 - the first one in this video - Caymus passed on 12/12/20. You cannot ever replace them, but finding room in your heart for another is amazing.

I followed your beautiful Caymus on FB as he became more and more ill, and I knew what you were facing. No matter how we prepare, it never mitigates the pain. Blessings to you and your fur babies.

I have sent this video to my sister who had problems holding her Ragdoll kitten because he could not stop meowing, she follow the advice you give us in you last video about holding a Ragdoll cat where your mother were holding a Ragdoll and it worked a little bit and now he is meowing less, so I sent this video to my sister too so it can be of a little bit of help too. They are so freaking cute!!
With my big boy(purebred, altered, mitted seal, 3yrs) I tend to scoop him up with both hands under his chest(thumbs between front paws) and then cradle him belly up with my left arm supporting his weight and right arm for scritchens. Eventually he will close his eyes and turn his head 90 degrees and press it against my chest. During that time you must continually scratch his face and belly or he will open his eyes and glare at you. If you pull your hand away, he will reach out and pull it back.
My smaller girl(himmy cross, unaltered, sealpoint, 2yrs) often gets scooped one handed as she hasn't yet(or won't) had a final growth spurt, so she's still light(~9lbs). She's gotten very squirmy as she's gotten older, but she seems to like belly facing out with her back to my chest and loves to have her paws pet with my thumb. She's pretty comfortable to 'worn' as a scarf too, and she does like to get up on my shoulder if given the opportunity. She used to climb up my leg and torso to perch as a kitten, but I had to stop that when she hit about 5lbs for obvious reasons.

Our recent litter of kittens we THINK could be Ragdoll. I've had one in the past and so far these kittens are showing all the characteristics of the breed. Time will tell of course but I'm excited. I've wanted another Ragdoll since my boy went missing 11 years ago.

hello miss floppycat.thank you for being so kind,is there any thing i should know about maincoon kittens?because you seem to know so much about maincoons.i heard the breed started in main,because main is a place where the kittens started.the coat they grew is because the winters are extreamly cold out there.i dont think that this breed came over night.but i surely would know much more about them.
hi, i am still confused. i do not have a maine coon. i have never had a maine coon. the cats in this video are purebred Ragdoll cats. the breeder you got your maine coon from, should be able to give you an idea on hair length, etc.

Amazingly enough, my ragdoll usually doesn't mind being picked up and be held like a baby. He has since he was a kitten, sometimes he gets annoyed, but he tolerates it. Sometimes I carry him on my shoulder with a hand on his butt. When he gets really annoyed he chases after me when he gets down. It's really cute, and he just glares at you with his ears laid back. XD...
ha ha ha - i have never had one chase me! my aunt had a ragdoll who would chase my uncle around their dining room table.
That's adorable... I call him a part sheepdog because he bats at your heels when he can. Sometimes he nips playfully, but not hard enough to break the skin when chasing me.

My cat has a 10 second rule that I must obey.
Baaah! We've had our Ragdoll for 11 years and she does *not* like to be picked up or held. We've tried many different positions and she still wriggles and meows and launches off to get down. But I just tried that first one that you showed (hadn't tried it before), and she didn't mind it for a few minutes! She even purred. Yay!!

Oh Trigg our Lochy doesn't like to be held also. Which is a first after 28 years of 14 different adult Ragdolls in our lives. Loch will complain etc, but he is my tallest biggest cat I have ever owned he is a mink and still is just two years old. One thing I have figured out is that he is so loose and large he is scare of giving a human the control of being off his feet and having him not in control. He is scared of getting hurt. So I have worked many different ways of picking him up and the belly up is as close as I can get outside. At the vet I support the front breast with the right arm under his belly and Loch will then squeeze close to my left neck side. But it all short lived.
Charlie is gorgeous. I had a pointed cat that looked a little bit like him when I was a kid. RIP Xena, you are missed.

That was really interesting to watch I've never really given much thought to this, kind of like you said, just did it naturally how it 'felt right'. I pick up Phini same way as your sister does Charlie as he doesn't really like his paws all over the place. Also do the belly-up with him but when he is not having it I end up with all 4 paws on my chin/mouth/face just tippy-tapping softly to let me know he is done with my nonsense :D I've been told it looks hilarious. Trigg is amazing with his launching self! :) I laughed when your sister omnomnom'd on Charlie's ear using only her lips as I do that too and I thought it was just me :D
