A few years ago, my brother and I were taking a gazebo apart for the winter and there were thousands, I mean THOUSANDS of these little nests in the rafters. It was literally raining spiders hahah. One of them was this enormous orb weaver that almost crablike. We felt bad but we *had* to get that gazebo down and stored for the winter.
Nice! Thx for sharing ur spider story with me! You just never know where spiders might show up at! I was called to a home in Muskegon MI to help a couple with a large finely build web that covered the guys table saw in his basement. They were both afraid to go near it so they called me. It was an orb weaver who laid her egg sac in the leg of the table saw when he was using it in his back yard in the fall. One of the egg sacs was beginning to release the little spiderlings in the spring when he had moved his table saw back down the basement. The warm of the house helped for an early arrival of young and they had lauid the huge web over his saw table. Most of them had already exited the basement and out a nearby window, following the call of the sunshine! I rescued a second egg sac that had not yet hatched out the young and brought that out side for the grateful couple! lol.
Bob, PLEASE if you're going to wake up one, bring them in and put them in a nice sunny window. I have kept jumping spiders in my windows for years during the winter. The key is to give them a nice sunny window, preferably to the east. I also added a light and plant in the same window so you'll often find the spiders basking in the light when there is no sun . One last reminder.... you should kill any house spiders in a room where you have a "window" spider since they tend to end up as food
My jumping spiders both died mid winter. One of old age and the other after molt un expectedly. I’m hoping I can find some more but I had a hard enough finding those ones in the fall. This video helps tho. I don’t want to go until spring without a spider and I’d rather not buy one so hopefully I can find one somewhere
I have been trying to find one every single day for the last 7 months. They are very very rare and I have not found a single one. I live in California. I don't think they are native here in CA.@@culsud
@@pokerchannel6991Idk what part of CA you’re in but I’m north of SF and typically find P. johnsoni here. They tend to make their nests under rocks and wood closer to the ground. You may want to try that instead
Hey Bob, new subscriber here. I just caught a jumping spider in a plastic container when it tried to snuggle up with me in bed. I didn't want to squash it! What should I do with it now? I live in West Michigan. It's the first week of December. I think it came in on the plants.
Hi AA, well we both live in the same nice side of the state! You can put the spider outside or near/on the wall off your home. She/he will find a place to hide and protect itself from the elements. It will weave a nice "sleeping" bag of soft silk and "hibernate" there over the winter and emerge when it gets warmer in the spring. If you choose to keep it in a container in your home, it may stay awake, but then you would need to water it daily and feed it every few days (and it still may decide to hibernate). Being that winter is almost upon us, you would need to go to a pet shop and purchase small crickets for food. A third option would be to put it in a container (jar) and put a few small crickets in the container and a mist of water and place it in your garage near a window is possible. The spider will soon hibernate and you will be able to see it emerge in the spring and have it to enjoy perhaps as a pet. Good luck on whatever you choose to do! Merry Christmas! Thx for ur comment and sub! Appreciate it!
@@BobTheSpiderHunter I'm so thrilled you responded! Thank you! I had a dream about 'my' spider last night and it helped me decide to put it in a sheltered place outside. The garage is a great idea. We have a spot by the house that will work well. I think it might have the best chance if it has the freedom to do what it decides to do on its own. I think he came in on a houseplant we had outside, so I'll put his little container at the base of a plant we kept outside next to the house. I think I can get some small crickets today. Not a nice day today, as you know, so I'll baby him/her as much as possible for this transition. Thank you so much! I'm not as worried now. It's such a cute little thing. 😍
@bully861 - Guten morgen! Mine Deutch is nicht so gut! Don't worry about the jumper, this one was taken home and well cared for before being released in the Spring. Loved your video on your channel...couldn't understand it all, but caught a few phrases! Great love story. Take care my friend, auf Deutchland! Bob
@BobTheSpiderHunter I think he means it in a more positive light, as in not many people are educated about jumpers and its hard to find people that are into them, that's how I interpreted it anyway.
@@ameliapiner9245 Hmm & without there Nest ? I'am no professionell, but i think its a hard Time too build a new one in the cold area without Food or something else. And why so many dots. That's Sound direspectfull. Bye the way... have a good Time ;)
@@ameliapiner9245 That is quite harsh. English may not be his/her first language. Also, the issue is the spiders hammock/nest was destroyed when he got her out. She would have to rebuild an entire new nest. It is cold, and they cant move well when it's so cold. She also would need to eat to regain energy along with replenishing proteins to help with silk production since their silk is just that. Proteins. However, not to be alarmed. He did take the spider indoors to wait out the rest of the cold winter to be released back in the spring.
Not sure what you're trying to say? Not sure what the disgust is about...the dead tree, or the spider that was taken home and well cared for and released back in the wild in the spring?
Hate to be negative but this Video has to be done over. Can really hear what you are saying, especially when the music is added - why do people do this type of video . . . geeeezzzz!
Sorry "RC" you are correct! But this was eight years ago when this was done. My camera had a short in it and the stereo sound was messed up in one channel. The music was added to deal with the sound of the short... Yes, too loud and annoying! But I have come a long way from my early channel spider beginnings! Hope you might check out some more recent ones. It won't be re-done as I searched for days to find one little jumper in the woods! lol. It is what it is, and I've moved on. Thx for ur comment though!
Awesome video!! I’ve been looking for some jumpers outside and having some issues. Glad I came across your video. Thanks for sharing.

How long did it take you before you found that best bed?
If I remember correctly, a couple hours...I almost gave up and went home!
