- Today we go on a quest to find a pair of subadult Phidippus audax, or Bold Jumping Spiders! We sure found plenty of babies (slings), but the older ones proved to be pretty difficult...

What I love about jumping spiders is how curious and attentive they are. When you move your fingers close they will turn towards them and look at it. Other spiders just sit in their corner, not reacting at all.
At the beginning of the pandemic, I had one take up residence on my desk. It would run around my monitor and follow my mouse hand. Very cute
@@delfin7461 I had a similar incident with one of these spiders. It was sitting on the outside of the bathroom window at my workplace. It has milk glass, so you can only see shadows through it. I moved my finger through the gap of the window on different sides and the spider would always turn towards my finger. Very cute indeed. :D

it's REALLY hard not to anthropomorphize these things. Their head and body movements combined with their habit of making eye contact gives a really strong appearance of awareness.
I know this was a year ago. But I’m just seeing this comment now. It isn’t an appearance of awareness. It is awareness. They’ve done numerous studies on jumpers and they are very intelligent and have thought and curiosity. They are not like other spiders that have just instinct.
Emily cracks me up. It is so cute how she knows where the spiders chill out in her town. She is like, that light pole 3 doors down has the Smith spider family and next door live the Jones.
Emily doesn’t just put the jumpers in the minimum amount of space they need to survive, she puts them in a place she knows they’ll thrive. That’s what puts Emily and Ed above the rest

I loved this video. Our 1800's brick home has tons of these. I believe the grandchildren will love this next year. We already raise monarchs but adding jumping spiders will be extra fun!

Emily really desensitizes all of these creatures for me. Usually, I’d see those and instantly I’m itching and looking for a shoe, broom or whatever to kill them out of fear. They look treacherous, however the way she talks to them and about them seem so harmless.
I love how you called the one you caught off the drainpipe "tiny" when to me that looks huge. British jumping spiders are usually around the size of the ones you showed on your shed. My biggest one (my fleecy jumper who just laid four eggs last week!) Is only about 4 milimeteres if that. And my two zebras arent much bigger. That thing you have right there is MAHOOSIVE! Im an arachnaphobe, so to me thats huge. The reason i have tiny jumpers is im trying to get over my phobia. But i doubt i could have started with anything any bigger than the couple milimetre ones i have. That guy u have there, as cool as he is, is way too big for me to consider handling.
Just encountered a (probably) Salticus Scenicus on my shed and had it jump on my arm for a bit and it was one of the bigger ones I've seen atleast 1 cm. I usually find much smaller ones and wish we had some bigger ones like in the video.
@@erwinj9697 no no no, they dont need to be bigger. im an arachnaphobe, the only reason i have them is cuz im using them to try and get over my fear, thats to a tiktoker by the name of minirobomuppets and they are kinda cute in the face, so im hoping that helps. but no, the tinier the better.
@@D0S81 oh yea I don't like spiders aswell besides jumping spiders and docile tarantulas. First time I willingly (kinda) had a spider walking on my arm was a big Brazilian black Tarantula but they don't scare me as much as housespiders we have here because they are pretty slow when they walk

3:50 that gray tree frog is adorable!
That first little guys is a salticus scenius or zebra jumping spider. They are smaller than the bold jumpers but I caught one and it's still a fun little spider. They are a bit more high energy and quick though.

I see this was made three years ago but I can't stop smiling... I'm , 71 and we had a stuccoed house and had hundreds of what I called zebra spiders... (1950's). I thought even then they were cute and amazing. And to be honest spiders give me the heebeejebees....... Not so the jumping spiders. I think they are adorable. Thank you for this video❤

My husband and I were on a job about an hour from our house and noticed a beautiful bold jumper female. We took pictures of it to show the kids when we got home, but found out the next day the spider rode home on our car. Its got bright white spots and those shiny green fangs. Well, we saw your video... now webs has a house of her own. Were always keeping the little green anole lizards, but I never thought a spider could be a pet. In fact, Ive always had a fear of spiders.... wow. change of heart.

There's a pair of jumping spiders that live on the outside of our apartment, and they apparently decided to have babies that I found as I was moving my plants back inside. We're constantly finding the teeniest little jumpy babies to put back outside. We're getting a kick out of their curiosity, they have so much personality, even as tiny specks.
It makes me happy you're not flipping out and killing them like most people. They're just tiny, fluffy, (in my opinion cute) little guys looking for a home!

I used to be afraid of jumping spiders but I’ve become a fan from watching all these channels.. they’re charming and cute as bugs ears.the little one are especially adorable
After watching this video, my new favorite thing is to find jumpers all over the outside of my house and yard! I have 4 lil jumper friends that I know exactly where their houses are and they love to come out and see me!

I've been catching Jumping Spiders in my front yard and moving them to my Organic Garden to help with pests. I even found a Johnsons Jumping Spider on my Pumpkin Plant the other day, it makes me so happy

I have arachnophobia, but I love all animals and have been trying to get over my really intense fear. Watching Emily be so unafraid and calling them cute, giving them little captions, it helps even just little bits at a time! Next time I see a jumping spider I might even say hello (from a distance).
