The look of the new BMW R 1300 GS Adventure might not be to everyone's taste, but you have to put it into its context; it's designed for doing long road trips fully kitted up, hence the utilitarian flat panels. What I like, is the way BWM have added a mini bar at the front by the handlebar (24:56), so you have somewhere nice and flat to put your drink down at the end of a long day in the saddle, nice touch BMW. 😄
I'm living in Germany close to the Harz mountain range. It used to be a really nice place to ride but now most of the nice roads have been limited in speed (50kph to 70kph) and they even installed speed bumps. For a country that is all about cars and the unregulated speed limit on the Autobahn, it's a sad state for motorcycles.
Another enjoyable video Chopsy. Fantastic scenery and I was very envious of your trip. The bikes look fab. Its making a decision on a new bike so tough. Recently took out the new S1000RR, amazing bike am I too old at 58 for another sports bike! Looking forward to part 3.
Nicely done, Chopsy. My key take-outs: (1) you'd have had twice the number of views by now if the delightful young serving lass had featured as your thumbnail, and (2) the GSA must be growing on me because this time I managed to keep my breakfast down. So, all good!
Over the last few years the limits in Germany are crazy low. Just back from garmisch myself and was sick to death of that round sign. One of the passes south of munich was a 19mph limit.
Thanks again Chopsy. Maybe not the fairest comparison with the SXR with full luggage and the MXR with the micro 270KPH luggage. Maybe a smart move by BMW to ensure the MXR stays sportier than the multistrada 🤫
Google Translate (Android & Apple apps) is your touring friend, Chopsy (18:37). You can speak to people, and even translate text with your camera, handy for signs, food labels menus, etc. Technology, eh, when I was a kid....blah...blah...blah... 😀
A real shame what is happening to iconic roads all across Europe, 50kmh limit is ridiculous, many areas in Austria, for example, now ban motorcycles altogether between certain times! The golden era of motorcycling has unfortunately passed. I had the pleasure of touring Germany in the late 90's on a 1200cc bandit, no silly speed limits and very few cameras! Such a beautiful country!
Really enjoying these touring videos, reminds me of a Black Forest gateau I had as a kid near Freiburg that tasted as though it had half a pint of Kirsch in it! The BMWs look and sound good, I’d consider switching to one if only the local dealer was closer! Keep up the good work!
@@LambChopRides the variety has been great, from the bike tests, brake factory tours and builds and thoughts of the day. I hope these videos do well too!
The XR's are perfect for people who are struggling with the dimensions of a sports bike, but not quite ready for a GS. I talking of course about the older gentlemen
I rode the xr and it’s a fairly buzzy bike and nowhere near the touring ability of the gs, That being said I took it on my local private road and it hit 150 without trying it’s for me not a long distance bike
A great video Chopsie. Some lovely footage of Germany. Shame about the B500 speed limits. Kind words about the new GSA considering it looks like a dog's breakfast. But seeing they leant you a bike and paid for hospitality I suppose you had to be nice 🤣
Some phrases you might find useful in Germany: - Bitte. Danke. Guten Tag. Mehr Chips bitte. Mehr Bier bitte. Ich bin ein 125 Kilo schwerer Fettwanst. Das ist eine große Wurst.
Southern Germany, my second home (thanks to the in-laws owning a holiday house out there!) Proper biker country, although the B500 is overrated! Head 50 miles west and it's perfect! 🏍️
What happens if you get caught speeding in the eu do you pay a fine. The s1xr wouldn’t be happy doing 30 on those roads. I’m surprised at those low speed limits. I hope the 1300 gsa looks better in person I was thinking about getting the auto version for touring with the wife
Once a hooligan always a hooligan Chopsy! My mates throttle was like an on/off switch it was permanently stuck on ON! 🤣🤣 Can't get away with that nowadays! 🙁
@Lamb Chop Rides 21:02 they are Germans not French, the FR on the plate is for the city/region, Freiburg im Breisgau & Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald, Baden-Württemberg in that case. 😉
I will never understand the appeal of these Massive Motorcycles, If you’re going to travel on such a massive vehicle you might as well be in a small sports car and be even more relaxed/safe. Wouldn’t a H2-SX be the ultimate road trip bike?
Have to agree with this. Bikes, for me, are about small footprint, agility, speed, not the bike equivalent of lumbering Range Rovers. But each to their own.
But you wouldn't be able to have an adventure on the kawasaki because its not an adventure bike..... oh hang on yes you would....and be more comfy and sporty and fast and no wind blast. 😊
To each their own, but I also don't get the appeal of these huge things with luggage that allow you to bring everything but the kitchen sink. Even an H2-SX is too big for me. I'd rather have a hypernaked and deal with the impracticality. Or a CRF300 if things get rougher. And off-roading on these tanks is just not as fun (or even remotely within the skill-level of the average rider) as on a CRF300. I guess it's for people into comfort, and riding two up?
Every single GS rider I spoke to in the Picos and Pyrenees this year complained about the weight, but they were two up and fully loaded. If you're a solo rider I'd question having a behemoth bike but I can understand it two up. I'd also add I saw two bikes dropped at a standstill and both were BMW's!
Personally I don’t find these bikes massive, they handle everything brilliantly, the handle just as well then anything I’ve ever been away on when you don’t know the roads, riding them is no different than a small bike when you’re away, you can filter fine (if you’re aloud) it all depends on what you’re used to, it’s nothing like similar to a small sports car, they can’t overtake like a bike on mountain roads, you still get wet, cold, and hot on a bike no matter what size.
In my Army days I was posted on guard duty in the Black Forest during the cool month of April. They posted us from 4:00 pm until 7:00 am and it was so dark you couldn't see your hand in front of your face. It was so cold I had three set of my fatigue uniforms on. The sergeant of the guard could only find us by following a telephone wire surrounding the perimeter. I thought it was a good place for vampires to find victims. 😄😄
Just come back from the Black Forest and as beautiful as it is and the great roads, the speed limits have killed it. On the northbound stretch of the B500 which runs along side the closed southbound stretch its a ridiculous 30 kph. Elsewhere it doesn’t get any better than 70 kph. The other roads off it are a bit more generous with 100kph. Shame really because its a wonderful place, nice 2 up cruising though and not a pot hole in site
No doubt it will sell like hot cakes once the media and public have said how crap it looks it will be an awesome bike like all the rest it follows on from well done BMW
Nice vid. An interesting watch. Shame about the poxy speed limits on those gorgeous roads. Hopefully the new Labour government might give us some decent roads too.... don't be silly.
Please do not drive on the inside of a left turn. This is a) a bad curve line b) dangerous when a bus is coming towards you on a narrow road and c) you impede oncoming traffic which is making a right turn close to the centre line and has to correct because of you. It doesn't matter on the B500 behind Baden Baden, but it is life-threatening on narrow roads in the Black Forest.
Hi Chopsy, I did the B500 down to Lake Constance (Konstanz) with a mate back in 2017 on my 2010 HRC Fireblade! The B500 was so disappointing because of the police with speed guns throughout! Constance was beautiful, and there were a dozen or so airships (Zeppelins) flying around that day it was a sight to see. Unfortunately, we based ourselves at Stuttgart for 6 days for the B500, which meant it was a whole day's riding to go anywhere and back again. Big mistake! But on our way home, we stopped at Koblenz and did the Nordschleife, which was epic. I did manage up to 175mph on the autobahn, though ✊️😂 Keep up the excellent content Chops. Thank you 👏 Trev.
The B500 is overrated. About 50 miles west of the B500, just south of Balingen is the L440 and a mountain pass called The Lochen. My in-laws own a holiday house nearby and it's fantastic biker country, especially heading down towards Lake Constance. The roads are always quiet too. I was out there last week. 😁🏍️
Why are all the YT bike influencers and journos pussy footing around calling the new GSA what it is, "One of the most ugly bikes ever designed" Is it because you are all afraid to say it like it is, because you're worried about BMW not giving you free bikes to review in the future? I'm guessing YES!
Goes through the 50kph sign at 112kph and then thinks he might have been going too fast - its a public road, not the Isle Of Man TT course during the Senior, slowing down might be a good idea....
