    You were right on the money about why Alastor acted like that towards Lucifer. He was intimidated by a more powerful being entering his terf. Viv confirmed that on a Q&A. Anyways, looking forward to the next reaction 😊

      That's exactly what it was. Alastor typically gets his way with other demons by attempting to charm them, impress them, or intimidate them. But, with Lucifer in the room, he can't do any of those things. Alastor ultimately become just like everybody else when in the presence of the king, and that both infuriates and intimidates him.

    Lucifer situation is very common, specially with people with depression or some times introvert.
    they dont want to intrude on others life, so even if Lucifer was always welcome on Charlie's life, he feels that unless she invite him, he showing up will be a invasion

    • @SnowyWolborg
      @SnowyWolborg 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      Also, it would be very difficult for Lucifer to actually voice his opinion on Charlie's goal without coming off as unsupportive. What we have to keep in mind is that Charlie has never actually been to heaven, and she has a very fairy tale idea of what life is like up there due to her boundless optimism.

  • @legendre007

    I have to admit I rolled my eyes at Charlie saying, “He’s doing it for me.” I know she’s supposed to be naïve, but that line strains credulity even for her. Especially because Alastor said outright what his motivation was in fighting off the loan sharks.

    I really enjoyed Lucifer’s characterization in this show. As a fan of Helluva Boss, I know Vivzidpop is no stranger to giving their characters daddy issues. But unlike Blitzo or Moxie’s dads who were physically or emotionally abusive, Lucifer’s neglect doesn’t feel like to comes from a malicious place. It’s clear that he does love Charlie but has allowed there to be a distance between them due to his own depression. Fortunately by the end of this episode, we see Lucifer start to realize his mistake and he and Charlie starting to repair their relationship.
    His expression in the flashback when he’s reaching a hand out to little Charlie makes him look a little unsure and hesitant. It’s clear that he is deeply insecure, probably due in part to how his choice to give people free will created the seed for evil and got him banished from heaven. So he’d rather hold up in his house and indulge in his own interests and hobbies rather than make the effort to connect with people. He’s afraid of potentially being rejected, and thinks Charlie doesn’t want him around. But to Charlie it feels like he doesn’t care enough to know her.
    Vivzidpop has confirmed on Twitter that Lucifer is supposed to be read as autistic. And as someone on the spectrum, I do recognize some of his mannerisms in myself. Firstly, the thing with the ducks is clearly a hyper-fixation. But also little things like rehearsing how to answer a phone, how when he first enters the hotel he interacts with KeeKee before any of the other people because animals are easier to interact with. Even how uncomfortable his smiles are as Charlie is explaining the hotel, like he’s masking and trying too hard to look approachable. Also puts Heaven’s rejection of his ideas in a different light, since autistic people often struggle with getting others to understand their feelings or ideas, and how people just right us off as “weird” or “trouble makers”.

    • @Dare_to_Nerd
      @Dare_to_Nerd  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +12

      Yes! I was really expecting Lucifer to be cold or act disappointed in Charlie. Really, he adores her, he just has a hard time reaching out and interacting because of the depression, insecurity, probably some PTSD (from heaven), and as you said, being on the autism spectrum.
      Your comment about heaven's rejection reminded me of his line, "My dreams were too hard to defend." I can definitely see him struggling to get heaven to understand his ideas and feelings.

      Autistic? I thought Lucifer was just pulling a Joseph Swan/Thomas Edison, by attempting to create the perfect rubber duck as if looking for 1000+ ways to make a light bulb! Although, I do notice how in “Hell’s Best Dad” he offers to *give* Charlie stuff; like services as a chef, champagne fountains, and caviar mountains, in order to bond/win favor with Charlie, although idk if that’s relevant. Also, even though *he* is the one who set up hell to have only a small amount of rules, and lets everyone in the 7 rings of hell have free will, he seems sad that next to everyone is making bad decisions with their free will, and that everything’s tearable (I deliberately spelled it wrong, ik)

    Lucifer's thing with the ducks is due to him seeing himself as an "ugly duck" yet he desires to become an angelic swan. Also, Charlie likes ducks and so he wanted to make her the perfect duck as a toy for her when she was a kid. However, Lucifer thinks that nothing he creates/does is worthy enough for his daughter, and by extension, he isn't worthy enough to be her father (hence his depression). Tldr, Lucifer needs a hug.

    Only the most naive people on the planet would believe Alastor genuinely cares about Charlie. You’re right about Alastor not caring about Charlie. It was confirmed during a Q&A that Alastor was only trying to one up lucifer and push his buttons by saying she’s like a daughter to him.
    But, I really don’t believe him defending the hotel or kicking out mimzy was “character development” I think it’s more likely that he has stakes in the well being of both Charlie and the hotel and that it probably has something to do with the “leash” he’s on. The question is… whose leash? My guess is the one person who loves Charlie and disappeared around the same time as Alastor did.

      SPOILERS episode 8:
      We know that Alastor admits the gang is growing on him though in the finale. Later, he is angry about it because he blames that behavior for him almost getting killed.
      You're right, he is bound to Charlie for whatever reason (deal itself, breaking said deal, or something else) and due to that I think the gang is going to continue growing on Alastor... whether he wants that to happen or not.

    To be fair, at his full power, Adam is nothing to Lucifer, so he might not have thought much of Charlie dealing with him as she is also quite powerful. It's also been pointed out that Lucifer shows several signs of having either Asperger's or being a high functioning autistic so he's missing a lot of Charlie's social cues while trying to protect her from what he faced. Remember that his punishment was to only see the worst of humanity, and Hell is his prison while Lilith made it their kingdom.

      @Dare_to_Nerd  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I think part of Alastor's change of heart is that he knows he knows a fight is coming, and he knows that the Pride Ring needs heavy hitters to survive. Given that Lucifer and Lilith have been AWOL for years (the lazy SoBs) he's focusing on Charlie. Not as a daughter, but an aprentice, and a Queen of Hell in training.

    Given what we learn about Lucifer in this episode, it's very possible that part of the reason he asked Charlie specifically to meet with Adam in episode 1 was just so he could have an excuse to call her. He feels like he can only do that when he has a "legitimate reason" to reach out
    Also, a cool thing i picked up on recently: the first time Lucifer appears in the storybook intro in episode 1, we hear a few notes of More Than Anything

    • @Dare_to_Nerd
      @Dare_to_Nerd  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Maybe. Perhaps he wasn't thinking about how terrible an experience it would be for Charlie to deal with Adam, and was just searching for an excuse to give her for why he called.

    • @SnowyWolborg
      @SnowyWolborg 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      And to be fair, his apathy toward Sinners isn't unfounded.
      Once these people arrive in hell, they are in an environment that actually rewards them for being evil. They are finally off the chain because there is no fear of societal judgment or law enforcement. And even though he clearly has regrets about unleashing free will on to humanity, the thing is, freedom means you have to be responsible for your actions, and these Sinners willingly continue to be degenerates even in the afterlife.
      The ones who would want to repent are pebbles in the ocean.

    My headcanon is that Charlie got the whole rehabilitate sinners by singing from her mom and since Lucifer allowed extermination, that lead to a divorce with Lilith. And Charlie went living with her mom which also added the strain with Charlies and Lucifer relationship. Mind you Charlie always tries to call her mom for advice or emotional support. She only reluctantly agrees to call her dad after being pressured by her gf. That leads me to believe she still blames him for their family brake up and the whole extermination. That's why Lucifer is so surprised when Charlie was the one who actually started the conversation and invited him
