That's one of Charlie's major flaws. Is that she's dramatically underestimating what's actually needed in order to help people. She has a very surface level understanding of mental health and therapy that can be very condescending and treating her guests childishly. She wants to help, but she actually doesn't have any of the tools or knowledge to do so.

This is true, but like... how would she? Nevermind that she's probably been super sheltered, nobody in Hell has a reason to help anybody or improve themselves. When everyone around you feels free to be their worst self because it's not as if there's a Super Hell they can send you to how do you even develop the tools to make yourself or anyone else better?

I feel like Alistor hates Lucifer because he is so much stronger than him. He is one of the few people he cannot intimidate or play with with his sheer strenght. So he tries to bother him in another way: "Stealing" Charlie aways from him.

Yeah he realizes he doesn’t have control in the situation, because he’s been used to being Charlie’s strongest player for the hotel. Because Lucifer wasn’t there. And now that he is, Alastor is internally panicking because he’s realizing Charlie doesn’t need to rely on him as much if she has Lucifer. So he decides to jab that he hadn’t been there. And how “loyal” is he. Psychopaths crave control, and they get really upset when they don’t have it anymore.

Yeah, he definitely doesn't actually think of Charlie as a daughter, but it's the only way he can get under Lucifer's skin. Lucifer can basically make Alastor redundant, offering Charlie anything she could want free of charge, while Alastor expects to profit from her in some way. So he needs to really hammer down his "loyalty" to stay relevant.

Almost every single character in this series has a musical motif: Charlie and Lucifer have big Disney musical/classic broadway themes, The Vees have a modern electric/hiphop style, Adam is extremely rock-themed, some of the others have only one song but have a distinctive 'type' of music associated with them (jazz for husk, pop for Angel, opera for Carmilla, etc.)
Alastor, on the other hand, *doesn't have any songs of his own,* he just adds a little bit of electro-swing flavor into other peoples' performances, while singing along with their melodies and cadences.
He is completely fake, he has never once presented his own identity to us through his music, he's just matching the 'vibe' of whatever's around him. We don't know a single thing about his actual motivations, and I think that's by design.

I would also say that Lucifer also has this kind of Christian pop-rock thing going on as well; as soon as More Than Anything started up, I instantly thought, "This sounds like so much a Christian ballad! It fits... he's a fallen angel." This is not a bad thing, and I think it helps to give him his own flavor of music, especially since we see that he has some holdover tendencies from his time in Heaven.

Depressed by his own failures, he kept his daughter at a distance. When she reaches out to him years later, he at first tries to buy her affection only to learn that all she ever wanted from him was to know who he was, which was what he was most terrified to show her. Simply beautiful writing.

    • @kenjutsukata1o1
      @kenjutsukata1o1 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +44

Honestly, I think he wasn't keeping her at a distance so much as thinking she didn't want anything to do with him. Consider how one of the reasons Charlie cited for her dad to call was when he was 'bored'; guarantee those were attempts by Lucifer to put out feelers for reconnecting. Just look at how he reacted when she called him. She never called him, it was always the other way around. And how excited he was about being invited over. That man had been waiting for that moment for who knows how many years. He also said he'd been dying to find out who she was, meaning he's been wanting to reconnect for years.
The whole thing was a case of misunderstanding, with both thinking the other wasn't interested in a relationship of any kind. And I have a strong suspicion that Lilith may have been the reason for that...

One thing that I've noticed; especially after watching several reactions, is that a lot of people pick up on Charlie saying that Lucifer only calls "when he is bored or needs something" and then immediately go, wow bad dad. But then we find out that Charlie has literally never once called Lucifer herself before that moment. If that is true, then Lucifer calling her only "When he is bored or needs something" make perfect sense. He thinks she doesn't want to talk to him so he needs an excuse to talk to her. And being highly depressed because he was the most joyful angel from heaven who has been trapped in Hell for millennia that reaction begins to make perfect sense. It's definitely not the best action he could have taken; but it is fully believable and makes sense from a psychological perspective. Especially if like was implied in more than anything that Lilith may have been purposefully driving a wedge in between them since Charlie was a child. Either way, happy to see them grow closer at the end of this episode.

As for Lucifer, he was less a deadbeat dad, and more a sheltered soul who's dreams where crushed repeatedly. Lilith purposely estranged Charlie from him and left him alone with severe depression that has gone unchecked for a while. He can't believe in charlie's dreams if he can't even believe in himself. He HATES himself and his ultimate failures that caused so much suffering and chaos. Every time he tries to fix things it only gets worse for his family. This left him disillusioned and out of touch with the world, and he lost his ability to connect. He is trapped in a world of his own making, only seeing the negative and everything only reaffirming his biases. He has no idea he needs help and is drowning in his sorrow.
He ultimately WANTS to help charlie, but he is still so traumatized to truly be in the present and there for her. Depression is a bitch. He hangs back to let Charlie be herself and make her own achievements and dreams, free from his bad luck of ruining them, only stepping in when he needs something, but charlie sees this as abandonment; so it perpetuates the cycle of neglect and avoidance. He STILL is a bad ass fallen angel and king of hell who LOVES his daughter, but his broken pride is his biggest weakness...and Alastor knows that just by glancing at him. For both Alaster and Lucifer, Charlie is a symbol of HOPE, only Al has the WORST intentions possible and is only out for himself, while Luci truly cares for her. That is why they fight over her.

Fun fact Lucifer is only short by Demon standards he is around 5 foot 10, its just that Demons tend to be VERY tall for example Charlie is 6 foot 6 and Alastor and Angel Dust are 7-8 feet tall. Angels tend to be shorter than Demons so it makes sense Lucifer would be seen as short, this also explains why Charlie is so "short" compared to most Demons its because she is half Angel

There are short ones, like Niffty, so maybe it depends on how bad you were in life?

Wait, where did you get that info? I watched one of Vivziepop’s recent live streams with questions and answers, and one of the questions was Lucifer’s height. I’ll rewatch it again, but I think she said he was about 5 foot 1 without his hat on. They jokingly said the hat makes him look a little taller, and I remember I got really happy cause Luci and myself have the same height. I’ll update my comment after watching the live stream again.
Edit: I rewatched the live stream and I couldn’t find a for sure definitive answer but Erika (voice of Charlie) did jokingly estimate Lucifer’s height to be about 5 foot 2 without the hat and Vivzie didn’t disagree with her. She said he wears the hat to make himself look taller than he actually is. Lucifer actually is a little shorter than Vaggie, and I think in the past she said Vaggie is about 5 foot 4. So Erika isn’t that far off. Vivziepop did mention in that livestream though that Charlie is 6 foot 4, Alastor is a little taller than her (I think maybe 6 foot 7 or 8), Angel Dust is 8 feet, and Valentino is 10 feet.

@@LuciLovesDucks really? That doesnt make much sense to me because while he is obviously shorter than Charlie he doesnt look like hes almost a foot and a half shorter than her. 5 foot 10 is just the average of the main guesses I have seen of his height based on him next to the main cast so its not like that was officially stated anywhere. That would mean there should be a noticebaly bigger height difference between him and Charlie than between her and Alastor and I feel like their height difference is about the same. Whatever she says is canon obviously though and to be fair Charlie has been drawn somewhat inconsistently with how tall she is so its possible she just looks shorter in the shots with her and Lucifer

I totally agree with how heights are drawn in the animation. It seems like the characters heights change in different scenes. I remember in some scenes it really does look like Charlie is a foot and half taller than her girlfriend and dad, and other scenes the height difference doesn’t seem so drastic. Whatever their height’s actually are, when I cosplay as Lucifer in the future, I’m going to say I’m the fun size version of him. 😂

    Something to think about
Charlie said Lucifer only calls when he's board or needs something. With Lucifer's personality, I can see him calling Charlie because he wants to be able to speak to her, but when asked why he was calling he just says, 'oh I was just board and decided to give you a call' cause he may have felt like he needed a reason other than a simple 'I wanted to speak to you'
The important thing is Lucifer's comment when she calls him is 'it's the first time she's called you in years' so he has tried, but in a way that had her misunderstand his reasons, while she eventually stopped trying due to those misunderstandings building up

Almost like a defense/immune response to Lucifer appearing and threatening his position, Alastor is scared... and Charlie is being used as the bargaining piece and body shield in this tense exchange. Alastor knows if he plays his cards right Charlie will take his side & defend him instead of her own father. It's a quick one-off line by Lucifer but gives quite an interesting perspective into the reasons why him and Charlie were so estranged at the start of the show, as it seems both parties are partially at fault.

He's "gentlemanly" (mostly in demeanor than actual politeness) as a baseline and is always smiling so a lot of his important character interactions are through subtext, word choice, and frequency of insults. I genuinely think he thinks more fondly of nifty than he does of Charlie though probably does admire her powers and her polite kindness. Definitely still thinks the hotel concept is delusional though.

Alastor is powerful and scary for an overlord. The reason Lucifer doesnt know him or is concerned at all is because Lucifer is several orders of magnitude more powerful than he is. Hell, if charlie learned how to fight and use her own power, she'd majorly outclass Alastor as well. Its why Alastor digs at their relationship, its what he sees as a weakness and the only way for him to get a dig in at the big boss.

also i love how they did everything with lucifer. after he fell from heaven, he fell into an even deeper depression and that led him to cutting himself out of the lives of his family because he feels like he's just a problem

I thought it was kind of obvious-

It's the fandom effect and the fact that Alastor is just a red, sociopathic Tumblr sexy man. So people see it and have a natural inclination towards ship mentality. There's a reason that all fan stories and comics have an undertone of "I'm a bad person on the outside but i'm secretly soft and sentimental on the inside and harbor a crush for the main character that most people insert themselves as".
Hazbin coming to Amazon made Tumblr mentality mainstream.
So yeah all of the people who watch Hazbin that were part of or tangential to those communities almost intentionally misread it because it's precision crafted manipulation, it's not sloppy enough to stand out to people who don't want to see it. Tumblr mentality makes you WANT Alastor to come around and secretly be a good guy and it colors the way you watch the show.

One thing is that we have Charlie's perspective on things, most likely she was only quoting what Adam said about Lucifer getting permission to exclude hell born demons from extermination. She was however unaware of him trying to get the extermination canceled completely, because as we have seen before they dont really talk much.
They lack a lot of communication and I have a theory that Charlie and Lucifer were kept apart or Lucifer fell so hard in his depression that he didnt think he was worth his daughters attention or thought he wasnt good for her.
While Alastor might care for Charlie I doubt he actually cares THAT much for her. (we'll see if it changes in the future) This was mostly a way to fuck with Lucifer, because Alastor cant intimidate him with strength.
I dont think Lucifer is that bad of a dad. I remember it was said once that if he was graded he would get a B+ as a dad. Which is fair, he fucks up a lot, but this makes him feel more relatable because everybody fucks up, but he also tries the best he can even with his bad mental state. Again not perfect but its soemthing.
Honestly I want to know more about the whole splitting up thing between Lucifer and Lilith from their perspective.

I think by the end, Alastor looked, if not happy, at least contented, that Charlie and Lucifer did manage to reconnect. He had a soft non-threatening smile for the duration of the song. I headcanon that, if what Mimzy said was true about Alastor being a softie, he may have hated Luci at the beginning but if anything, his actions indirectly gave Luci that little push to bond more with his daughter.

  • @georgev3433

So Alistor, imo doesn’t care about Charlie or the Hotel more than what he can get out of them. The hotel is a source of amusement, and Charlie is heiress to Hell who he can possibly manipulate or maybe strike a contract with.
The leading theory is he’s in his own deal with Lilith, possibly forced to look after Charlie. But that’s just speculation.
He goes heavy on the “Dad” thing infront of Lucifer cause he knows he can’t win a fight otherwise.

From what I've read, fallen souls killed by normal means are able to remanifest through an excruciating reforming process a bit like Captain Jack from Torchwood. It's only through the use of angelic powers, or other obscure means used by demons like Alastar that are able to destroy a soul permanently.
So likely it's very much could be the exact same loan sharks from the previous episode, or the way Sir Pentious is able to always have followers after constantly losing them in the first two episodes.

What job of his is she doing? And please don't try to say helping the Sinners, because that's not his job or hers. It's just something that Charlie took up out of an extraordinary amount of compassion. Because the simple fact of the matter is, there's a reason that she's laughed at for her dream. There's no reason for Sinners to care about redemption when they are in an environment that _rewards them for being evil._

Yeah, Alistor definitely does not care for Charlie in the slightest. Its a clear dig at Lucifer because he knows that will annoy him and using her against him. I guess you don't remember the part from the Pilot where Vaggie explained Allastor's past to Angel.
She specifically said he took down "overlords who have been dominating for centuries". So even if we didn't knew at the time what an Overlord was, that description made it clear, Allastor took down some very seriously powerful and/or influential demons in a VERY brutal way. And he made sure EVERYONE knows it.

Alastor is really famous among the lower power clases, if we speak about the most powerful clases in hell (demon royalty, the sins and Lucifer) they are much more powerful and don't really need to know him. I think that also explains why Alastor dislike him so much, he can't intimidate him with his power or status.

    • @SnowyWolborg
      @SnowyWolborg 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

That's exactly what it is. Lucifer does not need to pay attention to somebody who only showed up in the last couple decades. Alastor is the kind of person who needs everybody in the room to know how strong he is, and how terrifying he can be. The reason he went all Godzilla mode on those loan sharks is because he needed to make a statement. That whole thing had "hey everybody, look at how cool I am" energy written all over it.

I will say with context, Lucifer is the prince of the first ring of hell and has the sin-title of Pride (those given a sin-title are basically kings of their domains). Seeing as Alastor is nicknamed the radio demon and is technically a sinner, he is viewed as no different than other earth born souls who were damned to hell as a sinner. Lucifer essentially just omega lulled him as he sees Alastor as a peasant in front of a King. NOT just any king, but a fallen angel who first created all of Hell. That would be like if a US President met God and started saying "yeah I was a president, kinda a big deal", like what? They may have been a big deal sure, but not compared to the God of all Creation itself! 🤣

It's impossible to tell how much of Alastor's comments about Charlie are completely false, or if he's mixing in a tiny bit of truth to help sell it. Based on his reaction to Mimsy's attitude at the end of this episode, and some moments in the next couple episodes, hint that he might actually care about her, even if it's just a little bit. Alastor is a psychopath, but he's not immune to human emotion, like his petty feud with Vox, the way he's clearly pissed off when Carmilla dismisses his absence at the meeting, and how pissed off Lucifer makes him. I honestly hope that he does care about her, cause it's a great dynamic to be completely honest.
