I decided to take a chance, and watch this show for the first time in quite a while. I was pleasantly surprised when, after the Punk/MJF promo (which was excellent), the show continued to be good and I continued to watch until I fell asleep (up past my bed time, lol). I plan on tuning in to this week's episode, hopefully they'll keep doing the good stuff.

WWE was already salty at the Miz reference and threw shade. The difference was that even though CM Punk wasn't putting down the Miz, Edge's comment had a more condescending tone to it. Someone in creative definitely didn't like that lol

Whilst I agree about the silliness, I’d argue that it is needed. In every walk of life, in every job there’s someone that is the class clown or at least not as serious as they should be. Even in MMA and boxing there’s those are comedic characters, Connor McGreggor being a prime example.

I miss the days when wcw and wwf were kicking each other's asses during the ratings war. If aew is anywhere near as good as wcw was during it's heyday, maybe I'll be willing to watch wrestling again.
The problem is WWE is nowhere near as close to good as old WWF.
Everyone watched MJF and CM Punk have the best Promo in AEW History then everyone changed the channel afterward. The Ratings showed that. That sad part is AEW is better now without most of the EVPs and JeriBloat being on every episode. Danielson and Punk are the must-see moments, but having Punk wrestle QT after a 20 min promo with MJF is a bad idea. Cody's Ego continues to hurt the whole show. Also, no JR on Commentary for a while is going to be just bad.

If you judge a show by how many people see it you have got no clue what you are talking about.
Every time Smackdown airs on FS1 instead of Fox they don't get a million viewers either, its a no brainer that the more mainstream channel you air on the more people will see it.
The difference between these two shows, as well as the the ppvs (survivor series and Full Gear) is night and day. If my friends didn't pirate WWE for us to talk about, I would have tuned out long ago.
Didn't look like Colt had an issue. Seen mma fights end with taps where dudes aren't widely tapping.
AEW should just keep itself as the place for hardcore wrestling fans and that's it. Leave WWE out of it. There are a few things that hurt the casual popularity of wrestling with people growing up and lack of the mega over names of the past being two examples.
I can assure you lack of pushing Adam Cole, Keith Lee or Tony Nese on main roster is not the reason. There's no need to constantly reference how WWE essentially didn't grow old with you. Now you and we as wrestling fans have a place that is for more mature as well as Indy fans.
I mentioned it before but it's weirdo shit. I didn't finish my Thanksgiving dinner thinking, "man this is so much better than that Taco Bell I ate". I simply enjoyed what I was eating.
I agree, if AEW tries to become like WWE that will make me stop watching wrestling again.
And I dont care what their rating are and if they grow or shrink as long as they keep up with the good wrestling.

Regardless it's not 2018 anymore where it's WWE or smaller indy promotions. Fans wanted an alternative and I think for the most part we got that. MJF and Punk had an AMAZING promo. Page vs Bryan should be great. Yet most online and Jim video comments is hyperbole of "this promo better than anything in WWE in 20 years". Imagine finally getting Punk and MJF on a mic but I thinking about WWE and what Vince would allow them to say.
Imagine if Omega cut his hair short, slicked it back, changed the way he moves in the ring to be more slow and methodical, and kept a stern face on camera.
That’s literally all he needs

The best things about AEW are better than WWE. the worst things about AEW are worse than WWE. Really wish the fanboys on both sides would accept that, and just shut the hell up and watch whatever they like. It’s honestly sad to see people getting more enjoyment insulting a show they don’t like, over spending their time finding something they do enjoy.

My hope was always that AEW would bring the competition to the point where just like the mid 90s Vince would start getting SERIOUS. AEW (since Punk arrived) have been doing their part. WWE isnt in the same category anymore. That place is a BOTTOM LINE BUSINESS first, an entertainment company 2nd, with some wrestling sprinkled in.... And a great moment like once every 18 months.
Competition is good but you should enjoy something for what it is not hoping it makes something you don't really care for better. WWE is a victim of its success. Beyond TV ratings WWE has various TV deals and like 20x the social media presence of any wrestling company. So if you had that success would you feel the need to get "serious"? At this point it's essentially a money vs respect question. And keep in mind the respect is from a certain portion of the fanbase anyway.

All the neckbeards love AEW right now but until my coworkers start talking about it like it's a big thing or they actually get to 2 million plus people to watch this crap, I'll probably start watching again. That Punk/MJF promo talking about another company that is struggling just as much as they are. Who cares! AEW still looks bush league and WWE is a shell of it's former self. I find myself playing more video games now than watching wrestling. I want wrestling to be mainstream again but nothing out there, NOTHING out there sounds like it's going to change the landscape anytime soon.
