Hi Simon, a superb guide, thanks for publishing this and all the work you put in, I recommend this gimbal to my students. I was surprised by the level of exposure control features in the Hohem Jo app, being free is a bonus .
I bought this equipment and I can only say that it is really great. Very easy to calibrate. I have a Huawei P30 and the gimbal works elegantly. Zero problems.
Do you have mantain the Electronic Image Stabilizer or EIS so the videos actually look stable? Some of the new gimbals woble and jitter in ways gimbals should not.
@@shmuelmaloof4448 Previously I used Dji osmo 3. I got rid of it very quickly. I didn't notice any distortions in the hohem, the image stabilization is very good. And finally you have object tracking, you download apps and that's it.
@@dmitrykalinovsky2027 In the first one, one of the gimbal-motors where broken, the second one had a defective back-button (the one where you switch between vertical and horizontal etc.)
Thank you for your THOROUGH explanations of your videos. They've been a GREAT HELP to my insight to improve my setups. FYI: In the Hohem Joy App Tutorial comment, you are correct that it IS an Android manufacturer app issue. Samsung, in particular, does NOT ALLOW other apps to take control of their smartphone apps. HOWEVER, mentioned and tested by another TH-camr(Jonathan Casey), who recommended this very product for the Samsung S23, stated that the Hohem iStready M6 gimble allows the use of the smartphone's native app to function with it's AI tracking software. It's one of the "stand-out" features of THIS particular gimble, to be used with Android smartphones in comparison to other gimbles.
Great video and tutorial, I found the sound effects on the text overlay not necessary and became very annoying. Other than the sound effects, it was the best tutorial I've seen. Cheers

Outra coisa é na hora de filmar usando o track, ele nunca deixa meu rosto centralizado, só qdo vou para longe. Se puder me ajudar agradeço, já ganhou mais um inscrito.
Thank you for the clear explanation, specially on the modes pf, ptf, L ,pov etc, that was't clear to me up till now. i do have some problems with the software interfearing with the AI tracker, i can get it to work for start and stop filming after the V gesture, but the follow Mode of the AI tracker stops working, only after exiting the software i can get it to work again, So i ordered the (hand) remote to trackle this issue. Would be nice if they implement ed gestrures for start and stop for the AI tracker
tried to use this a few times on shoots and ran out of battery SO quickly. ended up throwing my iphone 15pro back onto my dji osmo 3 for most shots . also you CAN use this for motion control vfx BUT over rotating/ wind messes up the exact positions and plates miss match ( works indoors though)

It seems my Hohem Joy app doesn't show the phone charging - the battery is while. The iPhone shows charging - green battery. Shouldn't the Hohem Joy app battery appear green or show that it's charging?

Simon I bought this gimbal and using it with samsung s23 ultra phone and I have this noise issue which sound like the motor of the gimbal. Very annoying can you help me with this issue? Great video mate.... but i have to say, When recording with the Hohem joy app using a Iphone 13, videos do not seem to save in order, so it is very annoying after shooting my boys football match and downloading about 10-20 clips onto laptop to begin editing to find that the order in which i shot it is not actually in order,, and now have to figure it out like a puzzle, am i missing something..

I would be so grateful for your advice: I need to get a wireless mic to use with the gimbal, but before I buy the Hohem MIC-01, I was wondering if there is a microphone you would recommend that would be more *directional* than omnidirectional. Are there any directional mics that you might recommend that I could mount on the gimbal? Or am I overthinking the need for a directional vs. omnidirectional mic (I do a lot of sports video and quick spontaneous interviews)? Thank you!
I am interested in getting the Mic-01 but i have no interest in the lav feature. I want to record things like wave sounds and the like. Do you think the transmitter could be adapted to fit in the M6 1/4 inch hole on the side?

Hi, Ok you seem really knowledgeable about this stuff , The Samsung 24ultra i have has a Great mic especially in Pro video , you have 3 settings on the mic ,Front ,Back and Omni , It records and sounds great ,OK this is my issue > I play guitar to backing tracks small room 11'x12' i put the phone on a stand pretty much in front of the backing track speakers , BUT when i record and play back the backing track its TOO Low .. That's my problem .. that's why i was thinking of using soemthing like that mic
Thanks for your awesome tutorial. I just purchased this gimbal and I'm learning it using your walk-through. It is my first gimbal so a lot to learn, haha. One quick question, when I'm using it in a landscape mode trying to shoot myself talking while using tracking it is stubbornly trying to crop my forehead off. I can't figure out what to do about it. One of the main reasons I purchased it was this auto-tracking so I can talk, move around, and have my face visible. It prioritizes my chin and shirt over my forehead so I can't center my bloody face :D I do suspect it is because I'm too close and it is meant to track you in a longer distance but let me know if I'm wrong. Any tips would be much appreciated.
@facurespira just draw a square around your nose or whatever else you want to track instead of using auto tracking mode, then it's all good. I hope it helps

The only 2 issues I have had so far (only tried it for about 1/2 hour), I had to remove my case because I couldn't balance it with the case on, and I wasn't able to use the "A" "B" set up (it said "not supported") Other than that, what I did try worked well.
BTW, for those who are on Android, I personally don't have interface for object tracking (Simon mentioned that some things might be missing for Android). I thought, bummer... but then I realized you can still use it. Just draw a square with your finger around anything (including your nose) and you are golden. Works really well.
Using Android Samsung Ultra 23...Why cant i record 60 frames, in the app even though it is selected, but when previewed it maxes out to only 30...why the limitation, can anyone answer this...many thanks
I'm on the Android version of the app (Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra) and when I change the manual settings for shutter and ISO, they don't really kick in. The information screen below the app shows M followed by completely different numbers than the ones I entered and ISO is not fixed (keeps changing when I move around), so I assume it somehow stays in the auto mode. Is it just me or is it a bug on other devices as well? Frankly, I'd say from the first experience the app seems quite underwhelming.
Good video, but the explanation that android phones lack features is the reason for hohem app lacking features is simply not true. My android phone shoots great HD video in 60p, yet the hohem app can shoot only 30p on the very same phone.
Thought i was watching a video on meditation. That background score and the constant flat tone voice with no expression.anyway this gimbal has a lot of faults. You should talk about them as well. The Ai sensor wont work 50 percent of the time. Not to mention error 3. I understand, a lot of you tube reviews are paid by the company. But that makes it deceitful. This is a very very average gimbal as is the hohem mic 01.
Avoid the m6, there is a construction fault in the locking system. When it fails, you get the well-known error 03 that is saying your device is still locked, but it's not and you end up with a useless gimbal. I'm trying to get my money back.
@tennomain4182 he's telling the truth. Hohem has replaced 2 of mine within a year, and it's not like I use them that often. I switched over to Osmo and the Smove Pro mobile.
I am very disappointed with the iSteady M6. Dont get me wrong, it could be a great gimbal, IF it would work!!! I ordered it TWICE and received a defective product both times. Im really not sure if I want to order it a third time or just look out for a different gimbal... There are some serious issues with quality control in this company
That's unfortunate, as these things do happen - many companies drop the ball when it comes to quality control, even with their best/most costly equipment. I bought an Aochuan Smart S2 (approx $200). I enjoyed using it for a few indoor shoots, then ..... 3 months later it just stopped working. It turned on, only to display a totally pixilated screen. That's it. The company remains unresponsive to my emails and those of Amazon. Having read a few reports/reviews noting similar defects with iSteady M6, I'm reluctant to pull the trigger. It seems more like a gamble than a gimbal.

I just ordered one. My OM6 is not going to be able to handle the 16 Pro Max
How come? Is it because its too heavy?
@@raj8569-r1m the iPhone 16 is slightly bigger, but I feel the OM6 struggled with 15. If you don’t plan on having the promax version the OM6 may work

What are the most important shortcomings with android, compared ios with the app? Does for example the focus pull work?
Once the Hohem MIC records in stereo I’m buying it… same day. Right now it’s only mono audio.
Using Android Samsung Ultra 23...Why cant i record 60 frames, in the app even though it is selected, but when previewed it maxes out to only 30...why the limitation, can anyone answer this...many thanks
I'm on the Android version of the app (Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra) and when I change the manual settings for shutter and ISO, they don't really kick in. The information screen below the app shows M followed by completely different numbers than the ones I entered and ISO is not fixed (keeps changing when I move around), so I assume it somehow stays in the auto mode. Is it just me or is it a bug on other devices as well? Frankly, I'd say from the first experience the app seems quite underwhelming.

Mines keeps locking....the only way I can get it to roam freely is to hit the trigger 4xs and have the motor facing me
Good video, but the explanation that android phones lack features is the reason for hohem app lacking features is simply not true. My android phone shoots great HD video in 60p, yet the hohem app can shoot only 30p on the very same phone.
I didn't say Androids lack features. I said the makers of Android phones limit what 3rd party app developers can get access to
Thought i was watching a video on meditation. That background score and the constant flat tone voice with no expression.anyway this gimbal has a lot of faults. You should talk about them as well. The Ai sensor wont work 50 percent of the time. Not to mention error 3. I understand, a lot of you tube reviews are paid by the company. But that makes it deceitful. This is a very very average gimbal as is the hohem mic 01.

Avoid the m6, there is a construction fault in the locking system. When it fails, you get the well-known error 03 that is saying your device is still locked, but it's not and you end up with a useless gimbal. I'm trying to get my money back.

@tennomain4182 he's telling the truth. Hohem has replaced 2 of mine within a year, and it's not like I use them that often. I switched over to Osmo and the Smove Pro mobile.

I am very disappointed with the iSteady M6. Dont get me wrong, it could be a great gimbal, IF it would work!!!
I ordered it TWICE and received a defective product both times. Im really not sure if I want to order it a third time or just look out for a different gimbal...
There are some serious issues with quality control in this company
That's unfortunate, as these things do happen - many companies drop the ball when it comes to quality control, even with their best/most costly equipment. I bought an Aochuan Smart S2 (approx $200). I enjoyed using it for a few indoor shoots, then ..... 3 months later it just stopped working. It turned on, only to display a totally pixilated screen. That's it.
The company remains unresponsive to my emails and those of Amazon. Having read a few reports/reviews noting similar defects with iSteady M6, I'm reluctant to pull the trigger. It seems more like a gamble than a gimbal.
Overheats and the locking mechanism is straight trash. 🗑. Replaced 2 since May 2023.

Isteady M6 is a very good gimbal which was suggested by @SiHorrocks recently but it should be used with all knowledge not just like a toy
