So, this is funny: I always see comments about how some rando knew or knew of the celeb. This time it's true: knew of, that is. Mehldau was a year behind me at Hall High School in West Hartford. I don't think I ever spoke to him, but I do clearly recall a talent show appearance by him in which he started off with a Chopin-esque musing-exploration that he stretched out as long as he could till bursting without warning into a blistering bluesy rollick. To thunderous applause. Hall had a fantastic jazz program--Joel Frahm came out of that, too. I just went there--but being a drummer now I really wish I'd gotten that training back in the day. Wasn't allowed to play drums. Oh, well. :) Glad to see people making great music, for sure.
What makes to me interesting this pianist is the ability to interchange melody and harmony into a perfect Rhythmic fit. The Beauty in Music! Thanks for Sharing!
JUSTE MAGNIFIQUE , quelle écoute entre ces musiciens...Quel respect en symbiose...(un batteur qui a joué avec Rhoda SCOTT en 1992 et avec d'autres grands artistes)

I don't think I've ever heard Jeff Ballard sound better than he does here. I love Jorge Rossy and I'm usually less fond of Mr. Ballard, but man, he really sounds fantastic on this date.
This is really nice playing. I listen to a lot of Keith. This is the first time I feel like I'm getting Brad Mehldau a little bit. Also, and completely besides the point, Toulouse, La Ville Rose, is really beautiful. Lots of great memories from there.
50 ways to NOT play a cheesy Paul Simon tune is a more apt title. The Very Thought of You works until it doesn’t(when the flow stops at Brad’s extended solo). On the other hand, Brad really shines with She’s Leaving Home where he demonstrates the art of playing softer but flowing louder(until he doesn’t). The other tunes are not worth mentioning. Overall, the bass and drums are annoying and do not compliment the piano enough to justify their inclusion.
Paul, reading your words here in the comments of this amazing performance is like stepping into a fresh heap of dog turd while dancing barefoot in the park to some beautiful music.
I adore this man. How on Earth does he do it? No one plays like this. Only KJ comes close.
Our newest Jazz Piano giant - for sure!

Very cool, Brad is the man! Sounds like a good high school
A big name for the Greater Hartford Area.
Ballard's right hand ride provides the rhythmic wash upon which the whole magic carpet flies.
Ballard truly is a monster here
I grew up knowing Brad. We were very good friends at one point. We had the same piano teacher - Ruth Horowitz - I’m from Hartford
Tell us more! Was he ever not a piano master?
My brother in law Chris Broome, a sax player from Windsor Locks was in the state finals against him. He’s awesome.
The flow and the intensity... One of the best trios of our time.
Oliver Hahn so what are you? #truth teller?
@@ethangalloway7342 just wondering what you might be...
That version of knives out is just out this world. I love how Brad thanks the musicians afterwards..
Thom York in collaboration w Mehldau ?
È il più grande pianista contemporaneo, ogni volta che l'ho sentito dal vivo è sempre stato una emozione unica...

Brad is def more cerebral, but there is real warmth in his playing

One more thing. The Very Thought of You was written by Ray Noble. Konstantinos, it would be polite to give the correct credit.
yes
🏵️💙🌲😀
Incredible
Top 3 jazz pianists in your opinion? My personal favorites are Thelonious Monk, Duke Ellington and Vince Guaraldi.
Erroll Garner, Oscar Peterson …. Keith Jarrett … Chick Corea …. McCoy Tyner …. Stephen Scott …. Etc. Etc. Etc.
unbelievable
thanx

SENSACIONAL ♥️
ADOREI DEMAIS!!

The Very Thought of You was written by Ray Noble, not Nat Cole
Jazz giants
chido
Anyone know if there is a dvd or cd of this concert i can buy?
E' la sua personalità musicale adatta alla forma Jazz oppure è il Jazz che si piega con le note alla sua personalità???
from the point of view of speed :: en su punto !
His very best Trio?
Waou. Encore plus moderne et rythmique que Keith Jarrett. Mais moins lyrique.
Marvelous. Anyone knows if it is possible to purchase a DVD recording of this performance? I haven't found anything on the web. Thank you!
if you can't find it. use youtube-dl to download. burn it on a dvd
The solo starting at th-cam.com/video/QCJOdpSZkfY/w-d-xo.html still amaze me each time.
Who's the sound engineer?
Cool
Someone wipe that man’s brow! Seems like he has to skip a wondrous note or two… I will be your valet sir if no one else will! Fantastic
Ravie de faire votre connaissance grâce à Mon chien stupide...
this is far out
It's sad that jazz is dead
What is jazz ?
It was me, I killed it

Absolute rubbish.
"Overall, the bass and drums are annoying and do not compliment the piano enough to justify their inclusion". You should write for Downbeat! 😀 👍
Sorry. Ugh. 😢. It’s understandable to feel a little jealous though, sir.
Anyway… I do sincerely hope you feel better in the future. ☮️
He just plays meaningless notes, he is not really a soloist.
Oh yes, like every improviser, you're totally right. People, me included, who love him are just a bunch of idiots.
Ricardo da Mata......what's da mata, you ain't got no ears? Better get back to practicing son.
@@copeyhead LOL improve your taste for jazz and improve English please.
