It`s CRIMINAL to have a genius of Brad`s caliber play an OUT of TUNE piano ... evidently he didn`t mind or simply couldn`t refuse to play for other reasons ...
This performance at Parc Floral is, together with Brad Mehldau Quartet, at the Jazz Baltica, 2006, with guitarist Peter Bernstein as special guest, Brad Mehldau's two best performances in his entire career. Here was performed the very best version of The Way You Look Tonight in the history of Jazz.
Larry's solo on "The Way You Look Tonight" was intense. That's the great thing about this trio, nobody is really a leader because they are all matched by their intensity and subtlety.
MAN!!!! i was about to write the exact same thing! That song is the highlight of the concert and i think quite a lot has been written in the comments about Brad's solo on that piece through the multiple reuploads of this gig on youtube. but Larry's solo is quite deep there too! so that definitely shouldn't pass unnoticed! :)
Jan Simacek im trying to figure out who are some pianists he reminds me of in this song. What do you think? To me the only obvious one woukd be mccoy tyner
@@Account-ru8wt the obvious answer is Keith Jarrett, or rather, the way their classical training comes through in the phrasing especially on ballads and the rubato intros. the intro to Moon River. It's quite clear. Many of the phrases, the shapes, the dynamics could be mistaken for Jarrett's playing. They both have incredible facility to play what's in their heads, and much of what's in their heads is Romantic and Impressionist piano. Difficult not be heavily influenced by Jarrett if you're a pianist. I've listened to much more Les McCann, cuz i want that funky sound, but probably Jarrett's works its way into my playing more. Mehdlau loves Jarrett, and listened to a lot of his work in his formative years. He says so in interviews.
@@MarkTarmannPianoCheck_it_out This is true but he also clarifies in one of those interviews that Jarrett was more of an 'inspiration' that a direct influence that shaped his style. He talks about the Bremen-Lausanne recording and how it opened up his mind to what is possible on the piano.
Thank you for posting! I was worried it was gone. I would pay a lot for good quality audio if this. If it exists that is... Truly exceptional show even for this group.
Holy shit. This trio I used to see all the time. One of the best ever. Blade/Redman/McBride are up there too, but this was raw AF and I was blessed to see them many times. Thanks for uploading this.
A BRILLIANT CONCERT - Truly fascinating footage where everything contributes to the overall enjoyment: Great musical interplay & individual expression, sound engineer bringing their A Game, and a really engaged & enthralled audience. THANKS UPLOADER!
+Abel Boquera i was showed some his music at a lesson the other day, and I've been on the search for the high tempo half time feel songs. I think that was one of them
Chris Horton people “rush” to praise Larry Grenadier’s bass solos because he is one of the few truly original voices of contemporary jazz bass. A titan of the instrument. There’s a lot to praise. And have you ever seen A Midsummer Night’s Dream? Who wouldn’t laugh?
Come on guys let’s all hold hands and say it out loud. We applaud bass solos because we’re glad they’re over. Twangy laboured nonsense that, let’s be honest, means little unless you’re a bass player, a whale or some other animal with a love of frantic discordant muffled subsonic awkwardness. Thanks for reaching out to me guys. Anger is the first stage of your recovery xx
@@ViziaFilms i actually really really like this performance, agree he's a brilliant player, consider this gentle trolling, but honestly you lot deserve it

I am always amazed by Jorge Rossy's playing. It's a shame he isn't as appreciated as he should be.
Oh but he is, by those with big ears ;-)
This comment is 5 years to late but there has never been a time when Jorge rossey wasnt appreciated .
Personally, I prefer the lineup with Jeff Ballard on drums

Un GENIO 🎉🎉❤❤
That was the trio for me. It had that ¨something" , called Rossy. His youch really gave a togetherness to it.
Grazie

I love it.❣️
Brad scintillating on "The Way You Look Tonight." Incredible.
Unico.
Ah just let Brad and friends brighten your day!
Brilliant beyond any imagination.
One of my favourite videos and solos of Mehldau !
It's about same time Brad played concert with Fleurine in Prague and then they came to U Maleho Glena music club for a jam session....
Thank you Abel for this gem!
A pleasure, thanks for posting

ʕᵔᴥᵔʔ
Amazing concert, thanks a lot. By the way wtf with the piano tuning?
Thanks ! Amazing !

i am with you on that . facility, imagination, originality, intensity, groove, edge
Who wouldn’t , precision , creative, aggressive but damn silk smooth. Legend. Piano master
💯💯👏👏🤩🤩🌀✌️🌈
Like " Moon River".
hmm.......
Why a shity introduction music before a good concert? It happens all the time.
Great, but lacks A Lot of left hand, backing and voicing
he can give a straight up Bill Evansy treatment if he wants to
but he doesn't want to..... sorry
Brad has a ton of left hand, I'm puzzled by this comment
why does everybody always rush to praise bass solos.. i'm guessing you're the same people who laugh during performances of Shakespeare

What a strange comment
Cole Sainburg agreed, the guy made a bass solo “sing” not sure what chris h is smoking, but ill pass on that shit
