    I have the 35mm PRX quartz and it is a great watch. The size along with the quartz movement is basically a 1 to 1 of the original 70's version. It feels like a real piece of history on your wrist for a very small price!

    Just bought the 35mm quartz as a gift for my dad and he absolutely loves it. Only issue is that the second hands seems to be misalligned in places. It would infuriate me but my dad isn't really a watch guy and didn't care about it so he's happy!

    I had the exact same sentiment about the PRX quartz as well. From a historical viewpoint the quartz model is actually the more historically accurate variant. The irony is that the seastar quartz was indicative to the quartz crisis Tissot faced during those times, but now the revival of the model is literally one of their best sellers and an anchor model within the latest line-up (as of 2022)

    personally, I compared the quartz to the automatic in an authorized dealers stand. I left with the automatic, not because the quartz is subpar or not worth the money (it very, VERY much is worth the money) but because I have a preference for the waffled dial and the powermatic 80 movement. i think that for $650 it's a bargain for a swiss made watch with a finishing that rivals $1500 watches that have a movement with half the power reserve. Either way you go, either quartz or automatic, you'll have a great watch.

    ❤❤❤i wore my prx in public yesterday-the coolest thing about this watch( attracted lots of attention )is that it has its own unique beauty !...doesnt look like a homage or a fake watch-i predict that these low prices of the prx line will skyrocket into the wonderful of vanity-and i am a proud owner of the quartz no worries excellance-a watch u can quickly grab and go out without the hassle of setting the time or adjusting-this watch will transform the efficiency of wearing an attractive lightweight thin timepiece !!

    I would favour the quartz over the automatic in this case as it is closer in design to the original, is more convienient and accurate AND is a lot cheraper. I think it is a really cool piece, be interesting to see the updated dial colours.

    I don’t mind quartz watches if they’re done right. I have a Citizen quartz that hits all the tick marks, it’s a beautiful thing to see. And like you, I agree autos can’t compete with the quartz ‘grab and go’ functionality. I love mechanical watches but as I get older I can appreciate quartz for what they are and what they offer to me personally.

  • @Juanjo191
    @Juanjo191 2 ปีที่แล้ว +16

    I would prefer having an automatic, but the quartz version is a more logical option because is almost the same for half the price. I really like waffle dials, but the white version with the brushed dial and the hands and markers in gold is so gorgeous for me and that dial is only available in quartz so it's pretty much a no brainier for me. But to be honest my favorite PRX of all is the new chrono in white, because it has those characteristics plus it's an automatic chrono.

  • @PatricksFinanzen

    The worst is, that they are not able to align the second hand to hit all 60 markers every time. That’s why I don’t want a Quartz with a big second hand.

      I'm 60%/40% quartz over mechanical with my collection. I buy with bracelets but don't wear on bracelets yet (maybe one day). Anything on an integrated bracelet is a firm no. I remember my Dad having a Tissot (late 1960s) when I was a child so wanted one in my collection for sentimental reasons. He was a yachty so I expect his eventually suffered from the salt water. I bought the Gent XL Classic in quartz. Wanted something with the 'T' on the seconds hand. Also gives me one Swiss watch so they don't feel completely left out.

    I would agree, I always thought that if I was going to buy a PRX I would get the powermatic 80 version. But I have been thinking for some time, and your video further convinced me. that the quartz would be the correct option when going for heritage in model. I am also looking forward to being able to purchase the 35mm versions of these watches that hopefully will be available soon, as the original '78 seastar was the same sizing.

    • @saschamohr7970
      @saschamohr7970 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, I guess I'm fine with that. I won't need to open it for a long time as the watch is solar powered. The back is flat, you don't feel the screws.
      The s100 is solar powered and radio controlled, so you will not have to do anything with it, just grab and go. All titanium means ultra light. The looks are up to personal taste of course. I got it for 455 USD from a shop in Japan including international delivery.

    I have the same feeling about the quartz version as it reminds me more 70s than its mechanical counterpart... the problem is I just dont like replacing batteries, but I understand the appealing of an era also deserves love from the watch entusiast, so I think you are right.

    • @dant.6364
      @dant.6364 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The problem with automatics is the need to service them every 5 years at $300 a pop. I’d much rather replace a battery myself every 3 years for $15.

    • @rafaelcid
      @rafaelcid 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@dant.6364 this is not really how it works. In general, if your automatic watch does well you DONT need to take it for service and while maybe cheap movements are not exactly something I would consider reliable, most expensive ones wont need that level of maintenance... but you are right: servicing a Rolex is way more expensive than swapping your Swatch battery which is free, by the way.

    Quartz for me too. Simply reason is that I only wear my watch on weekends, so to adjust my automatic watch every weekend is no fun for me. Just "pick up and good to go" is the advantage of quartz in my opinion.

      That's why for work I wear a BERING Solar 34440-702 10 ATM (100m WR), It is a Solar powered quartz, that lasts 10 months on a full sun charge. It has a butterfly clasp, and sapphire crystal. It has date window, that I never adjust, apart from recently as of February 28th fix to March 1st. It stays true to the time set, doesn't deviate manically. It gained 4 seconds in 7 months. Can hardly complain. Has a charcoal colored, off black dial, with 3 sumbdials, can be used as a chronometer. The seconds measuring hand is colored red. While the hour and minutes are silver, with lume set full length inside. Has non-rotating bezel as the bezel displays the hourly markings. It's a great looking watch, that I've received more positive feedback from the team of people, peers, and acquaintances. Goes well with a suit, without the "look he's trying to hard 'look'".

    Automatic watches are like manual cars. Cool to collect, fun to drive, but I wouldn't use them as daily drivers especially in a city. In this day and age where everyone has atomic time synced on their apple watches/iphones, I don't want to be caught even a few minutes off using mechanical watches. I hate having to reference other time sources regularly to make sure my watch is still accurate - it takes authority and confidence away from the watch. The whole point of watches is to keep time, and to me a reliable and accurate watch makes me more punctual. Of course to some watches are simply jewelry, I have nothing to say about that. A perfect balance between smart watches which are accurate but requires constant charging and syncing with another device, and mechanical watches with it's cool factor but a relatively lack in reliability and durability is quartz. I love myself a quality stainless steel, saphire quartz.

    Honestly I wouldn’t pay more than $100 for a quartz watch, i’d rather head to Ali express to get a quartz homage like this. That said I really like the powermatic 80, and waffle dial, I wouldn’t mind spending a little extra on a movement like that even if it’s not technically 70s correct

    I haven't tried a PRX on my wrist yet, but I did try on a Visodate years ago. I disliked the Visodate bc it sat awkwardly on my wrist due to the case back. I feel like the automatic version of the PRX will have the same issue with the displayed case back being taller than the quartz version. The green dial on the quartz looks much nicer than the green in the auto version too. I guess I just need to try one on.

  • @konstantin9615
    @konstantin9615 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    A quartz movement is more in line with the overall design of the PRX model, in my opinion. You've just said the same, as well.

  • @charlyvanbuuren2947

    I was wondering about the quality and finishing of modern Tissot quartz watches. I have a Tissot pr100 watch from 1998 and one Tissot pr100 from 2017. The one from 1998 has a screw down crown and caseback it has polished roman markers and a waffled dial. Inside it has a removable protective metal plate that sits between the caseback and the battery maybe against magnetism? The modern one has non of those features and a plastic movement holder. Point is that those 90's pr100's look like they are better build and far more expensive than the modern ones. Is it the same with the prx?

    I don't get the point of automatics in 2022. Some people are luddites and prefer to crank their car over with a hand crank and still listen to vinyl. Apple gets it. Casio largely gets it.
    All my watches are quartz. Set and forget. No BS servicing of fussy mechanical movements.
    This is a lovely watch and yes the best decision for:
    More accurate
    Lower cost
    Thinner watch body
    No winding
    Set and forget
