    Thansk again to Kevin the Scotsman for the loan of his brand new PRX. I like it, and I like it in quartz. But unless you simply must have one, maybe hang on for a bit to see what the auto does to the market, or wait for supply to hit the grey market. Cheers, Jody

      If you ever buy a 3 handed quartz watch it should be this one.
      The 'quartz crisis' is something that you need to be older than me to fully appreciate I think, but given the industry only ʀᴇᴀʟʟʏ started to recover in the last 20-25yrs it's safe to say that we'll most likely never experience anything like it ourselves - smart watches or not.

    I bought one today one from the Tissot boutique here in Sydney. The blue and white dials are sold out, and after my purchase there's just one black remaining. I asked when the Powermatic 80 will be in store and they gave a tentative estimate of about two months. Something to consider; the full length PRX bracelet only just fits my 8-inch wrist, but the Tissot store will order in two extra links for you completely free of charge. I'm really happy with my purchase, it's a beautiful watch.

    Absolutely LOVE my Black Dial Quartz PRX, and chose it a while ago after the PM80 Version was already made known weeks ago/there were pictures of the Black Waffle Style Dial one in a Review already with pricing.
    Love the subtle vertical brushing on the Black Dial... It's actually much different than the Blue Dial in nice lighting (looks very BLACK most of the time, but outdoors that Dial comes to life), but damn... I'm tempted to buy a Blue Dial now 😑.
    Oh, and I will say I was lucky enough to get one with a "seconds hand that hits every marker", for those who think none of them do. It has to be a quality control issue (This is still a HELL of a Watch for the $320, all said and done, I paid for it UK->US)... Bracelet is surprisingly good, and obviously as shown... Gorgeous.
    I didn't even know about that issue until after I had the thing on my wrist for over a week 😅. Now I'm actually nervous to buy another, and may just pay full Retail if I do buy a second one and get it in person... Making damn sure it ticks like my Black Dial. Although honestly, considering how damn accurate the movement is anyway, unless you have serious OCD it really doesn't matter much.
    If you have wrists under 7", I would probably avoid it altogether... Especially the PM80 Version, as it'll be thicker as well... The Quartz is the way to go IMO and you can get 2 for the price of the Auto, or set the other chunk aside toward another Watch... 🤷‍♂️

    I was wary of the PRX because of its integrated bracelet. One of my favorite parts of watch shopping is finding aftermarket straps. However, that outdoor wrist roll made me a believer. This Tissot is worth the coin just for the bracelet itself.

    There are a number of really neat Tissot entry-level mechanical Swiss watches. The Visodate ( soon to be in 41/42 mm) and the " Gentleman" are probably the two best known for value and quality.

    Amazing video. I just bought the Powermatic 80 in Dubai for USD 520 including the taxes. The other changes in the powermatic version include a more “creamy” dial rather than just plain white dial. Powermatic version also has a handsome SS frame around the date window.
    I really can see a cult following for this model if they release quick release straps

    I like it, but already have the Tissot Gentlemen Powermatic 80 on Bracelet. I have also just received the San Martin Nautilus homage, which has a high beat auto for only £200, and in my opinion looks much nice than the PRX (the dial on it is stunning). Am looking forward to your review on it, as I think you mentioned it was in the pipeline.
    Don't think I will be picking one of these up, but great review as always though Jody.

    I like it, but I like integrated bracelets anyway.
    I think I'll wait a while and see if they get discounted, but I think a quartz one would fit nicely in my collection for £200-£250. Not sure I'd spring for a mechanical one, but I do already have a similar-looking automatic anyway (A Schaffen S65).
    I'd want to try one on before buying though, I dislike loose bracelets and I would want to see how it sits on the wrist.

    My rule of thumb is (shockingly) always buy the quartz. This is especially true at the lower/value end of the watch market. Some watches are ruined by not having a quartz offering in the lineup. Case in point the SKX. That beautiful watch could’ve been so much better if they had a quartz version. Considering the garbage, robot built, auto they shipped it with, you were lucky if you got one that remained in spec after 3 months if at all.

    • @Holt333
      @Holt333 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      So true! My Gilt (black and gold) SKX is gorgeous but had to take it to the jeweler upon arrival as it was about 30 secs ahead per day NEW out of the box!!! It works fine now, 6 months later, but wouldn’t recommended unless you’re ready to immediately get it recalibrated. Quartz is the way to go at some entry level automatics👍

    • @AvroBellow
      @AvroBellow 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's really something that I don't understand about Seiko. The movements that they sell to other watchmakers (specifically the NH35A and NH36A) are often better than the movements that they put in their own watches. However, the Powermatic 80 is no joke, I have one in my Seastar 2000 and it is an absolute BEAUTY of a movement.

    • @AvroBellow
      @AvroBellow 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@INNO222 I agree with you about the autos from Tissot and Seiko. I have a 2022 Tissot Seastar 2000 with the same Powermatic 80 (just an amazing piece of engineering) and I also have a 2012 Invicta Grand Diver with a Seiko NH35A (the best value automatic movement that I've ever seen). While I haven't had my TS2000 for long, I wore my IGD as my "daily driver diver" for 9 years and it is STILL running perfect without any servicing whatsoever. I've always been a Tissot fan but that Grand Diver made me an Invicta fan (of Grand Divers at least).
      When it comes to quartz though, even the cheapest and crappiest quartz movements have always run seemingly forever for me. Way back in the day (>10 years ago), I bought a $10 Orlando that was specifically to be worn at work. I stopped wearing it because, although I didn't know this about myself when I grabbed it, there are few things that I hate more than fake chronograph subdials. I just felt lame wearing it and that's when I bought my Model 3049 Grand Diver.
      Well,, I found it in a box a couple of years ago and just for chits and giggles, I popped a new battery into it. It still tells perfect time. There aren't a lot of moving parts in a quartz that can go wrong, even with the cheapest Chinese versions. Since we make objectively better, well, everything, now than ten years ago, I think that nobody should ever worry about longevity in a modern quartz movement.
      Having said that, I'm one of those people who has come to really be irritated by the ticking of a quartz second-hand and the only quartz watch that I currently own (and wear) is my Movado 0604702 which has no second hand and emits no audible "tick" during operation.

      @benzinbruder96 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Unfortunately, my experience with cheap chinese watches was similar.
      I bought two Pagani Design 'Daytona'. One is a good watch for the price. Far away from top notch but you get what you pay for.
      The other watch however was rubbish in all regards. Worse finishing, something was wrong with the movement and the bracelet fell apart after two weeks of use.
      But I guess that is part of the magic when you are buying things on Aliexpress.

    I would definitely wait for an automatic version, but I wouldn't really be interested in an interested strap or bracelet. It's important to be able to swap out straps depending on the occasion and the clothes. It's a nice watch though, I'm not mad about the case. It reminds me of the bedside clock my mother had when we were kids. Maybe it was a Tissot! Did Tissot make clocks??🤔

    Tissot has truly hit it out of the park with this one. Is the best watch ever? No. I think you have mentioned big things that for the price should be fixed in the crown and the caseback. However the styling (oyster quartz style) is definitely a big hit for me and I can’t wait to have both the quartz as well as the automatic in my collection. And i’m eyeing up that 18K Fluted bezel version as a gift for my father, the man who got me into watch collecting.

    Was on the Tissot website looking at this only yesterday. For me its the quartz at those prices (my early 90s TAG qiartz still going strong and only ever had battery changes as its never been in sandy water - thats what my Gshock is for).
    The push on back annoyed me too as I'm happy to make a bespoke back removal tool for a keeper. I thought the Victorinox back removal bladed penknife would make back removals easier but it just seems to be a thick blunted and rounded blafe to stop me stabbing myself when i inevitably slip off the watch back. I suppose if the battery lasts 5-7 it may either outlive me or be worth professionally changing.
