    I feel like I just watched a 3rd grader did a school project...Fabric moves and streches, the pigment needs to soak inside the fiber to stay. Unless this chair is a piece of decoration to look at, this "upgrade" will fail soon. I don't think the owner has extra room for such a large "decoration".

    I painted 2 pairs of canvas sneakers I didn't wear and one was a beautiful curry yellow. I got so many compliments. since that mustardy color was so hot this year, everybody wanted to know where I got those shoes and wanted a pair badly. I should have purchased a bunch of sizes of inexpensive canvas sneakers and painted a bunch of them and sold them for three or four times the price I bought them. I have been looking for 2 years for a pair of red pointy toe flats. And I never could find them in my size for under $100. I didn't want to pay that much for a pair of shoes I would wear occasionally. I was at Walmart when day and they had two different colors of pointy-toed flats which they never have. They had a faux suede in a funky mushroom color for $9! And it was my size and they were cute as far as the shape went. So I snatched him up, went over to the craft section and bought some red chalk paint. I went home and painted those things and every time they dried I put another layer on. I ended up with about five or six coats oh, but I may not have had to put that many they looked fabulous. No more than to my family gathering on Christmas and I was telling my aunt and cousin that I had painted them they were all floored. They couldn't believe how consistent the color was and how saturated and full the color was

    Best results always take more time and effort, usually $$. You get what you pay for, and that includes the value of a person's work. If I dyi then I'm "saving money", but I'm actually exchanging the money my work is worth for the final product.
    This video shows what a quickie, 45 minute job, gives for results. Sometimes you don't need to waste your money, which is time and effort, on certain projects. Balance. And many people don't have a lot of extra time. Good day.

    I've watched videos from you and others re painting chair fabric. The one thing I still don't know is what kind of wax??? No one gives a brand or type of wax to buy. Is it called fabric wax or is there a brand I can search for? I think you did a good job but, in my opinion, there should've been a contrast between the wood and fabric. That would've made it pop! Either dark/darker wood or a darker fabric paint...like a medium gray. I watched another video where they painted the fabric white and the wood was nearly black...very striking.

    Can I paint seat cushions?

    • @TheDesignNetwork
      @TheDesignNetwork  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Karen! Here's what it says on the Tips page of the Annie Sloan Chalk Paint website regarding painting upholstery or leather:
      When it comes to painting upholstery, small items which are firmly upholstered (such as a dining chair seat) and made from natural fabric (such as cotton or linen) give the best results. In these cases, Chalk Paint® can be diluted with water and painted on as a 'wash' which will stain the fibres. Fabric that is painted in this way does not require to be waxed afterwards. Take a look at our video tutorial for more on this technique.
      There are other ways to paint upholstery, but the success of painting any upholstered piece does depend on factors such as the condition, colour and composition of the fabric, how firmly it is upholstered, and the colour you are using (reds are less colourfast).
      For any project, we would recommend testing in a small area first before you commit to painting the whole piece. As a general rule, we don’t recommend painting very cushioned sofas or suites or items that get very heavy use.
      Don’t be afraid to experiment with different techniques either - applying the paint more thickly will change the composition of the fabric, making it stiffer. This can then be waxed and buffed to create a leather effect.
      You can also use Chalk Paint® on leather and vinyl - build up the coverage in thin coats, and then wax to finish. As the leather creases and cracks with age, so will the paint, so bear this in mind on well-worn or cushioned items.
      Want to know more? Each Annie Sloan Stockist can offer you more information and practical advice on these and other tips from the Annie Sloan Method.

    Great job! I love it! It's beautiful. AS paint is the most amazing paint. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and you have a great eye.

    Everyone keep saying that they ruined this chair. Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder.
    The designed in the fabric popped with the applied grey paint I hope that she will leave the back and sides of the chair original material untouched to give it the two tone effects mixed modern with traditional style.
    After all, the chair looks fabulous.

      Agree, I would use a bit more gold on the tacks, but great job.

    Can tile be painted by any chance?

      Hi Estephania! We're not sure whether you can use Annie's Chalk Paint on countertops, but you might want to check out the Techniques section on her site. She does show how to paint on marble, kitchen cabinets, etc. Hoping you'll find a great idea there! www.anniesloan.com/techniques

    With chalk paint can I paint leather chair

    • @TheDesignNetwork
      @TheDesignNetwork  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Rama Kanwar! Here's what it says in the Tips section of Annie's website:
      You can also use Chalk Paint® on leather and vinyl - build up the coverage in thin coats, and then wax to finish. As the leather creases and cracks with age, so will the paint, so bear this in mind on well-worn or cushioned items.You can see her Tips page here: www.anniesloan.com/tips. Hope this is helpful!

    I usually LOVE painted chairs...
    but when she painted over the brads (Tacks), I about fainted.
    This looks like a chair that has been (just) plainly painted.
    No contrast... The wood work could have been a different color...
    The Tack colors should have been natural (not painted).
    This is just monotone .... boring...
    (I am a Furniture Refinisher... many years worth).
    SAD...

    WHAT ABOUT THE BACK OF THE CHAIR

  • @Diana-wg1tm
    @Diana-wg1tm 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    When she started painting the chair, she didn't spray enough water on the fabric and the paint was just too thick . It needed more water . When the other girls started to help pain oh, she's never even sprayed the chair with water at all.

    I like muted colors but this just made the chair look fake bc it's all one matte color so t looks like a plastic Barbie chair. The gold highlight doesn't stick out at all. It's a good concept but I don't think I like the end result of this particular chair.

    They have come out with fabric paint. that would have been the way to go. I can't believe a flat paint would not come off on black clothes if anyone sat on this chair.
