So if you currently have a chrysalis waiting to hatch out, make sure it'll be able to get up, and hang upside down to allow those wings to pump up. @@lordcactuschild9325 dubia roaches are great, and likely have a better protein to fat ratio, but it's always good to switch up feeders. I feed mine dubias, mealsquirms, black soldier fly larvae, superworms, and occasionally crickets (rarely), all dusted with a 1:1:1 ratio of multivitamin/calcium/vitamin B complex.

Both come from a chrysalis. The chrysalis is the pupa itself. A cocoon is sort of a protective bag spun around the chrysalis, which some but not all moths create. Silkmoths do, but hawk moths don’t.
I found an elephant hawk moth caterpillar in my garden last week, it was huge and it was pretending to be a snake, flailing around but when I gently picked it up it calmed so I put it back into a part of the the garden where it would be safe. I feel so privileged to have found one of these in my garden and I hope it happily makes a pupae there and turns into a most beautiful elephant hawk moth xxx
This little guy has no idea how lucky he is to be in the hands of such a caring and gentle person. I believe even if you think it's on you for his wing, I feel as if he was supposed to stay with you even if it was under a misforturnate happening. Some things are just meant to be and happen in the strangest of ways. Regardless, you're giving him a fighting chance he could have never seen in the outside world. He looks like a happy little moth and I wish you the best of luck with him.
We had a elephant hawk caterpillar (we think ) and it went really still so we left it a while then when we checked it there were loads of little babies in the tub . I thought they only laid eggs or babies once they were moths . Is this normal ? Thanks

You need to make sure there's a stick in there that's standing diagonal so that he can climb and dry his wings as soon as they hatch out it's very important or else they'll never fly.
Ikr, I had rashes all the time I had those caterpillars, but I didn't think it was them, until we released them, got rid of their pop up house and the rash went away 🙈
They are amazing! Gorgeous little cherubs, I love raising moths and butterflies. Such an incredible part of life! I have had this happen on a few occasions, it is heartbreaking. I would keep them, feed them, and let them explore the house to live out their lives in safety. When they hatch out they need to be able to hang upside down to properly spread their wings.

There are so many popular people who keep flaws about their pet's offscreen, but I LOVE your approach of "its nature, and things just happen." It is so true. Animals are born with imperfections all the time, some aren't even born. But we can't control if we get the perfect animal or not. All we can do is care for and love the animal we end up with.

Omg, hummingbird moths are frickin awesome! I've been admiring them since I was a child. Those and bumblebee moths are just something else. Used to let them land on my hand and walk all over me before taking off again. Such precious babies ❤❤❤
You think that is big? We had a moth fly in our house when I lived in Chicago. It was the size of a house sparrow! It flew around the living room a bit before I shooed it back out the front door.
@@poochiew.9302 indeed, while they are gorgeous they are quite small compared to some moths in the US, like the luna or polyphemus, which are definitely two of my favorite moths. Moths are so sweet and docile, I love interacting with them ❤
Brilliant! I had a pine hawk moth hatch last year. you have to be careful because they can damage their wings very quickly if they are in a confined space but I guess you know that😌
Idk if it's the same for moths but with butterflies they hang upside down after emerging and flap their wings to dry them and so that blood will pump into them but your moth didn't have anything to do that in the container

These things happen. In future, any pupa you have must have immediate access to easily climbable vertical areas (I.e. a tall container with flyscreen on walls and ceiling) with ample depth to dangle from. Then there should be no issues with its wings. I’m sorry this happened to you!
If it doesn't come off in 2 days, you can take a moist cotton-swap and _gently_ "roll" and pick it off her toes. If you let it sit too long it could cut off the blood flow to her toes and she could lose one. This happened to my first leo. It is very important you don't just let it sit.

But lots more who are fine, just released a female today, I really don't like letting them go if there is only one, but the other s seem not to be ready yet and I have already had her a couple of days, had no luck trying to get her to fed, even the flowers did not attract her, but when I put her on the plants outside her proboscis came straight out and she was fine, released her to a lovely wild area where I have been releasing elephant hawk moths for 4 years now.

I need help! My elephant moth has just come out.. it’s head and front wings are our bur the chrysalis is still stuck on its body. It’s stayed the same all day. Should I be worried?
Ah nice :) When you say natural UVB, do you mean you take it out in the sun? Because ideally they should be left during the day. But if it's sun through the window, remember UVB can't travel through glass and you have to watch the tank doesn't over heat.
Aww yeah, like his little under the bigger one is withered and white - i don't know if that's due to it not being able to spread, or it was always going to be a bit weird.
@@leopardgeckotalk I know that when you purchase cocoons, the breeders will keep them in the fridge. Supposedly, if left in the fridge too long, their poor wings dry in the coocoon.

Okay you need to know that you need to put a stick in there when they first hatch they have to hang upside down to fully open their wings. That is why his wings did not open all the way they will stay like that permanently you only have a small window for them to open completely and they have to hang upside down when they first emerge. I'm sorry you did not know that but now you do please read this comment so you know in the future and do better for them.
Mine is refusing to eat or drink sugar water :( what do I do :( her wing on one side isn’t fully formed so she flaps her wings but doesn’t fly :( she was stuck in her cocoon for 2 days her body was stuck so maybe that’s the reason the wing didn’t form properly but she’s not drinking either :( what do I do?

My crested geckos nose is turning white and it has a red spot next to her left nostril 🙆

The reason why his wings were not fully developed was because when they are out they immediately need to hand on something and let the wings go out!

I get tiny moths that fly around in my house and when I saw one is these outside I was so shocked haha.

Yeah, he just emerged so quickly that I didn't get chance to pop him tub in his netted enclosure to do that :( should have done it sooner.

I had a elephant hawk moth that did that and this year I had 3 hatch all went successfully one on the may1 one on may 7 and one on may 8

I need help! My elephant moth has just come out.. it’s head and front wings are our bur the chrysalis is still stuck on its body. It’s stayed the same all day. Should I be worried?

My crested gecko loves getting natural UVB. It now likes me and doesn't run from me.
Ah nice :) When you say natural UVB, do you mean you take it out in the sun? Because ideally they should be left during the day.
But if it's sun through the window, remember UVB can't travel through glass and you have to watch the tank doesn't over heat.
This happened to my Luna moth. I kept the cocoon in large environment with another cocoon. The other moth (Cecropia) came out just fine.
Aww yeah, like his little under the bigger one is withered and white - i don't know if that's due to it not being able to spread, or it was always going to be a bit weird.
@@leopardgeckotalk I know that when you purchase cocoons, the breeders will keep them in the fridge. Supposedly, if left in the fridge too long, their poor wings dry in the coocoon.

They can’t be left in the tank for too long or they will start biting the gecko.
Okay you need to know that you need to put a stick in there when they first hatch they have to hang upside down to fully open their wings. That is why his wings did not open all the way they will stay like that permanently you only have a small window for them to open completely and they have to hang upside down when they first emerge. Mine is refusing to eat or drink sugar water :( what do I do :( her wing on one side isn’t fully formed so she flaps her wings but doesn’t fly :( she was stuck in her cocoon for 2 days her body was stuck so maybe that’s the reason the wing didn’t form properly but she’s not drinking either :( what do I do?
