    Glad to hear a young lad like you was exhausted. I am, let's say a bit older and after panning for a couple of hours, I wonder how I ever worked in 110 degree heat shoveling rock salt for a living. I get so tired now, when I look up at the hill I have to climb out of, I think, maybe 50/50 chance somebody will just find my body right on the hillside. If they ever do, I put the gold in my pocket, it's yours. You can tell your grandkids you took it from a dead miner.

    I'm 15 and iv been wanting to find gold In the creek i have in my back yard really nice one too and what iv noticed when watching videos from you and other channels that there's a thing called black sand that I don't know existed but the complete side of the creek is just black sand (with a little normal sand but mostly black) not the side towards my house but the opposite side, I'm Right now in school in home room and I have free time right now so that's why I'm here if possible I would like to get in contact somehow and i would like to learn more about finding gold, also I live with my grandparents and we just bought this house that's next to the creek with a loan and I could help them out by finding gold like you do, anyways I need the exercise.

    • @GoldCountryMiner
      @GoldCountryMiner  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey buddy! Black sand can be a good indication of gold, but you won't necessarily always find gold with black sand. Black sand (generally comprised of magnetite and hematite) is denser that typical blond/brown sand (silica) and will often end up in the bottom of your pan along with gold flakes, as both are denser and heavier than the other gravels and sands in the creek. It wouldn't hurt to do some test pans of that stuff but chances are, there probably won't be much gold there, if any. The gold will want to settle down to the lowest point as it's the densest material in the creek, so you generally won't find it sitting on top of the bank (unless it's on bedrock). My favorite how-to TH-cam channel is Two Toes (Gary Honan). Check his videos out to learn more about prospecting. He does a great job explaining everything about it, from the ground up. A word of caution for you... For me, gold prospecting has always been a hobby, not a money maker. In nearly 10 years of panning and prospecting, I've found about 1 ounce of gold (currently about $1,825), and that took hundreds of hours of hard labor. That's not to say you couldn't find a nice big nugget, but generally a few flakes is all you'll get. If you want to make some money and help pay the bills, stay in school, get a good education, a decent job, and go from there. I make more in 1 hour at my real job than I do in 8 hours at the creek, breaking my back, on a good day! I pan for gold because I love to, not to make a living. Good luck, and heavy pans! Now get back to class and listen to that teacher...

    How do u remove the mercury?

    • @GoldCountryMiner
      @GoldCountryMiner  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      A miner never tells his secrets... But some have said that if you put the gold in a small metal tray, and heat it up (indirect flame) with a torch, the mercury will burn away. CAUTION!!! This technique creates highly toxic mercury vapor, so it has to be done outdoors with good ventilation. You don't want to breath that stuff in. Keep the wind to your back and let the breeze carry the fumes away. Also, don't heat the gold directly or it may pop and splatter. Heat the outside of the metal container. Good luck, and be safe! We don't need any more "Mad Hatters" running around!
