    having used modelers since 1999 and having bought basically everything that can be bought, imho it all comes down to form factor now. i can dial in near identical sounds in all my modelers. all of them feel good, sound good and replace my tube amps just fine. we are living in the best of times as guitarists.

    I wanted dual amp possibility and using my own IRs. This is my first digital platform and only use it at home in my " home studio " which means via my headphones or monitors. And for that it is perfect for me: it plays and responds like my real amp and the basic sounds are solid. I could buy an Valeton, Zoom, Helix, Headrush but somehow wanted something not so popular :) For now I am good although updating some of the effects would be nice once in a while

  • @jcugnoni
    @jcugnoni ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Fully agree with you. I have the previous version and the amp modeling was already really good. Some effects were not as great as Line 6 (pitch shifting notably) but it is a great unit to practice. I also preferred it over the Mooer line. The Mooer GE sounded good for high gain but felt very stiff and did not respond well to dynamics / volume. The Hotone feels pretty good in terms of player response and cleans up relativelly well. I compared Hotone's pream models to several of my tube preamps and found it sometimes difficult to distinguish them.. The only points that I don't like are the presets which where junk (got better with Ampero 2) and the cab modeling which I replaced with IRs anyway. I would recommend it easily for someone who wants to edit its own sounds with a good quality/price ratio. If you just play presets, Choptones or others have nice preset packs that can save you a lot of time.

    I really like my Ampero II Stomp. I've been using it more than my HX Stomp lately (with one of my bands and at most jams), mainly becasue it is much easier to dial in, and it supports a 12 block signal chain, allowing me to have fewer presets with more effects / amps available at once. The lack of snapshots and other control functions (Line 6 controllers for example) is very unfortunate, but I suppose with a good MIDI controller you can simulate them by sending a stack of bypass type msgs from one footpress. I do hope they come out with a solid and extensive update this year - as you mentioned, updates have been minimal. Also, the pitch effects are very weak, but the rest of the effects are quite good, and the amp models are very very good. I still use my HX Stomp for one of my bands, but if I had to, I could certainly replace it with the Ampero II Stomp. If you have an HX Stomp, you might or might not want this as a replacement. But if you are abou to buy something, the Ampero is like $200 cheaper than the HX, and competes reasonably well. If they added snapshots and more extensive MIDI control, I would sell my HX and get another Ampero as a backup device.

    @MrArjen1960 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I have worked with software before, this is my first modeler. I was surprised of the flexibility and clear sound.
    All the sounds I want, it can create better then I thought was possible. The patch options are great to include all kinds of sound options. I compared sounds between my JMP tube amp and the Ampero, using a Torpedo Capture and the Hotone's internal speaker sim's. The result was you would not hear the difference in a recording environment.
    The down points would be, you can easily overload the the processor, because the amp models and some effects use a lot of resources. For a nice full sound, you should use the stereo enhancers to open up great sounds, because in a room environment you would here all kinds of reflexions too. To maximize the sound I use an analog graphic EQ that cuts of the low's and High's an scoop the Mid's some. The effect have some great ones, but also a lot I can live without, just because they are not really good f.i. the pitch functions, that are not smart, are mono and have to much latency, my 12 years old effect processor does a better job with those. But still it has all the good effects you need, like good Chorus, Delay's, Reverbs, Boosters and Compressors.
    The speaker sim's have twice the amount of sample points then most of the existing modelers, and that matters imho.
    In any price point I would recommend this unit for sure ! Specially for studio work. Using the excellent Send/Return option you can use full stereo external effects in any part of the sound chain, you can even separate the send and return, so you can place the return in a different part of the effect chain . Last and not least the user interface and editor are great no learning curve involved !!

    Have been using this unit for the last year or so. I've added an ampero control to add midi control, an ampero press for controlling volume/wah and an ampero switch because I had one.. I have an OC3 before the stomp, and a ditto looper in the FX loop.

    Hi everyone! I bought hotone 2 a week ago. My opinion:
    Pros:
    It's so easy to dial with it. Building a preset is very easy and logical. An big amount of different amps. They all sound very interesting, especially the cleans. I like to use drive pedals, so there are a lot of clean amp which deal with drive pedals so nice. There are a lot of signal paths, so you may experiment as you want. Reverbs and delays are awesome.
    Cons:
    3 knobs is not enough. You need 4 knob midi controller for more options. Pitch effects are horrible, but I'm using an additional octaver pedal. Some modulations are good enough, but some are not so impressive. Built in cabs are not impressive, so I'm using my own IR's and everything sounds excellent.
    IMO this device worths more than it's price!

    @Jonw8222 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I definitely had the time of my life watching the first few mins of the video haha.. would love to see you go for a full on Eric Johnson clean or lead tone with this pedal one day.
    One of the things I like about this form factor is that if something fails (like an expression pedal for example), it's easier to replace that one part of the chain rather than the whole thing. Same thing if you use a MIDI controller.. you can use it for this, or use it for something else.. or both. You can unplug the expression pedal for this and use it with a different fx or delay pedal. If you buy these at the right time you can pick them up even cheaper, and they are already pretty cheap compared to the high end brands. The hardware itself is really high quality, there's nothing cheap about it. There's a lot to choose from these days in terms of all price ranges. I prefer Fractal and Quad Cortex overall but they are super expensive in my country and I really like this Hotone stuff as a decent middle of the range option. Custom IR's open things up even further, and also.. using IRs instead of cab sims reduce the latency. Having a decent amount of IR slots and the ability for dual amp customizable chain is nice to have in this price range. It's also got a bit more DSP capability compared to HX Stomp.

    Does it send sound via a WDM Driver to PC Sound?
    LINE6 Toneport/Studio no longer does the latter thanks to Microsoft but does the former. For this it may require thw Virtual Cable by VB. Not tried that but Voicemeeter was not the solution.

    The tone did not blow me away. I would spend a few hundred more and get into a lightly used FM3- worlds better. I do wish however Fractal would update their interface and get with the times. The PC editor is fine and they remain the tonal king. The on unit experience however, dare I say on all their devices leaves much to be desired. It's like the 80's are calling. They should learn from Neural. They also do not have capture or touch screens or a great looper or large scribble strips like the QC has. I am optimistic they will address most of this with future models. They really need to. I still easily prefer Fractal over any other modeler even with these shortcomings. I mean even the Hotone Ampero Stomp has a touchscreen. Come on now~!

That is where basically where it ended. Some of the cabs and clean tones were quite decent but not in the same league as anything Fractal.
      You simply cannot compare it to the FM3 or FM9. Clearly you have played neither. It is not fair comparison. It does not come close to the FM3 where it counts the most- tone, feel, effects, DSP and options. If you are on a tight budget and can hold out for the Ampero III, it might be worth a look.
