    Dear Leo,
    I have been watching your channel for quite a while (subscribed of course), but this is my first comment here.
    First of all, thank you for your hard work and precious content, you are indeed doing a great service for the community. Let me also compliment your playing and endless creativity with showcasing great new music basically for every video you have!
    Ontopic:
    I can only comment on the NUX MG 30, I have been using the unit for two years with great pleasure.
    I'd like to mention that the MG 30 has a limited capability to have more instances of fx blocks: you can swap EFX-COMP or EFX-MOD blocks, so for instance sacrifice the compression to have 2 drives or give up the EFX block to have two modulation effects.
    Secondly, I would like to remark on the modelling comparisons in general. In my limited experience, the digital gain structure in these devices is very sensitive to input signal level. As each unit has a different and unknown preamp/AD calibration, this is difficult to standardise, however, there could be a partial solution. You could examine the input levels by recording a known DI input (e.g. from a reamp box) using the default patch level / output volume settings, and observe the DI level in a DAW, and tweak the input level (preamp) controls in each unit to arrive at an arbitrary 'standard' DI level of say -18 dB. This way you could eliminate wildly different input signal levels for the unknown preamp/AD calibrations across devices (and avoid clipping as well).
    This would be useful in the tones comparison. Here, for instance, it is evident in the rapid scale runs with the Plexi + TS samples that the Valeton and Matribox have insufficient input level + gain combination as the quick notes with weaker attack are too quiet. And as we all know, the digital gain structure is key to amp modelling behaviour, and it could better be compared across devices with at least the input (raw) signal level 'standardised' to some extent. I understand of course that this would require significantly more time from you, so just my two cents! :)
    Keep up the great work! THX

      BOSS, why do you not have a looper that works outside of the chain - like in most multi-FX (e.g., Zoom, NuX, etc.) - it is really a deal breaker for me (and perhaps a few others from what I have read).

      In a live settings it seems like you can store patches in memory for different songs. Is this a good approach or do you recommend having one or two base patches and then turning on or off effects as needed?

    Hi Leo,
    I bought the NUX-MG30 when it was entering the market here (2021) so I have it for more then 3 years already (NUX did some very good customer support with their FW updates) and I enjoy it every day.
    Good to see that it can still hold up with the newer ones..in fact...I wouldn't trade mine for one of the others you tested.
    Thanks for your review my friend!

      Nux mg30 is awesome. I had to "downgrade" from hx stomp xl but let me tell ya.. yes there is less options (which I find refreshing actually) but when you lower the trim and treble on the input global settings on this thing, some amps in this thing sound and feel noticeably better than hx stomp. Effects are good. On par. Far less options. Scenes plus is incredible with multi amp switching within a patch. love this thing!

    Thanks for the unbiased video and the music. 👍I have a Matribox and it totally blew me away, and it does every thing I need absolutely perfectly. To me, it's absolutely brilliant. I suspect I'd like the Valeton too. I had the MG30 and I really liked it but the noise seemed harder to control, though at the time I was using passive pickups. I also have their Live Preamp and it is super, super quiet, even with a lot of gain. The Matribox GREATLY exceeded every one of my expectations right out of the box, and it sounds killer when tweaked right. Incredible value for money. It so happens that it's the more modestly priced units.....more money in my pockets. I don't have 'lower cost gear insecurity', because I know I can play my butt off, the rub is always in the musicall skills; the gear is relative, at least today. The Boss of course seems a great unit too. Reality is, any of these units can be used to churn out whole records. Thanks again👍

    I've added a M-Vave Chocholate plus midi and it works both by 3,5 mm trs cable either via usb, for around 30 euro is a very affordable additional foot switch. I use it to turn on / off fx1,fx2, mod and delay but is fully customizable.

    I have the Nux MG30. The only compromise when buying this unit are the delays and reverbs. They are usable, but when you come from a Boss DD20, Zoom G3XN and Zoom MS50G, you really feel the iffyness of the Delays and Reverbs in the MG30. The only good thing about the MG30 is the midi capability, amp sims, ir loader and the output modes which helped me get through gigs using the back of the amp, front of the amp and a direct to house situations.

      Luigi, how do you evaluate the quality of pitch shifter of MG-30? Is it good for polyphonically lowering the tuning ? For emulating bass, single notes and intervals (thirds, fourths, etc)? For emulating organ sounds with oct up and down (single notes, intervals, simple chords, complex chords)? Is it glitchy? I have NUX Mighty Space, which was recently supplemented with a pitch shifter but it is completely unusable due to artifacts.

    Thank you for the awesome video, been waiting for a comparison like this, to my ears I loved the valeton and the matribox tones, more rounded for the the trebele and leaning more into the midrange and bass spectrum of sound which Is what I like in terms of tone. The other two sound bright and fizzy on the top end, which is rather grating and more plastic-sounding, I like mature and distinct sounds more, I was going to buy the mg30, good thing I bought the sonicake, thanks again ❤

    Thank you, Leo, your work is invaluable. You've cleared up all my doubts. As far as I'm concerned, the GX 10 is the best unit. It costs more, but it sounds just as good, if not better, than other machines that cost even more. I would use it to take with me to the rehearsal studio (which I reach on foot by subway) and possibly for some small live shows.

    geat playing in the demo leo , you always inspire ! - i have owned a nux mg 30 , coming off of the mg300 which i also own . i have been using it for recording demos of original basic rockish instrumentals and also playing live remote outdoors. i have had it for a while . i have allways made custom patches using 3rd party and some of the stock ir . i absolutely LOVE the mg 30 .i have the best guitar tone i have ever had . lately i have been going for less high gain sounds . i run a lot of vox ac 30 . i use a rangemaster and then an ep boost in the effects loop but placed very early in the signal path . the rangemaster REALLY brightens it up and gives a very natural and very pleasant low distortion . the problem is it cuts too much low signal , so the EP booster is used to bring back those lows and some mids that the rangemaster kills. its not ideal , but getting something that sounds THAT good never is. i have tried a lot of boost pedals with the mg30 , in the loop and before it . i like the rangemaster the best , the germanium one . i have built some with mullard 850 transistors which are perfect for this circuit . i have also tried silicon rangemaster which is a catlinbread naga viper . this is a very good pedal , but its not the same as the ge rangmaster .its a small difference but . the zvex sho is another good pedal for this . i ran across this as i found i had made patches using a humbucker guitar , then i played them with a strat and i was missing a lot of gain and tone , so a quick fix was adding a pedal in front to balance the deficit between hum and single . but what i found was adding the right pedal does something else with the modeler which makes a it more appealing . its feel and freq response . i like it bright .like i said not so much high gain lately . i used a big muff with a mid scooped eq for a long time . you just loose all of the guitars character with that set up . so this is going way back to basics . i find for this type of music i have been writing , which is basic rockish instrumentals , it works well for me. i use stereo delay and its allways tempo matched with a nice reverb . ocaisional modulation patches i will use very very subtly , and i turn that on for just a chorus and back off on the verse . i absolutely love the mg30 . people gripe about the pitch shifter which i do not need so much . i think its a smart set up how they use the "control " button to change scenes . after firmware 5 they made that even more flexible and its really opened the unit up quite a bit more . i would love to try the new boss . my wife uses the boss gt1-b and they give you the terra echo which she uses on bass and its SUCH a cool effect. we play as a duo and i do the drum track so filling the soundscape up is important for us. it sounds goofy i know terra echo on bass , but its absolutely killer if you tempo match it and set it up right . thsnk agsin for keeping the community informed . you are allways very fair and the way you compare the features allways makes sense to me .thats rare ! all the best to you leo , by far the best multi effect channel that ever existed and thats a massive monumental accomplishment , even for an Italian ! ps i met thomas nordegg last night !

    Being the newest and most expensive unit, I expected to be more impressed with the Boss than the others... and I am. I think it sounds the best of the bunch. But I'm super impressed with the NUX, which (correct me if I'm wrong here) is the oldest of the group by a considerable margin. To me, it's reeaaaaally close to the Boss for tone, and just about matches it in the all-important (to me) latency sweepstakes... for $100 less. It also has some really nice artist presets (Pete Thorn, etc) from what I've seen in other reviews.

    The NUX and Boss grabbed all of the very fast solos you did very well, but the Boss sounded the richest.
    The other 2 barley picked up most of the fast soloing.
    The same 2 sounded a bit more muffled as well during the other sound examples.
    I'm trying not to show my Roland/Boss bias, even though, most of my musical equipment is Boss and Roland...lol
    Keyboard, amps, bass and guitar pedals, edrums and now Aerophone, are all Boss or Roland gear.
    But correct me if I'm wrong, but I couldn't make out the notes at the end there on the 2 other units.
    I almost bought the Val GP 200 Jr because of its price, but I found a used Boss GT-1000 Core on ebay for about the same price, and that's far superior, and I can add a foot pedal and extra buttons too.
    But that's my 2 cents.
    Great playin as always Leo, and awesome comparison !!!!!

    Hi, Leo - I really enjoy your playing and reviews. I just got a Headrush FRFR Go to use with my new GX-10, and so far the best sound of all my modelers (I hava bunch of them; Helix Stomp, Ampero 2 Stomp, etc., etc. ad infinitum). Prior to that, my best results were with a Boss OD-200, which IMO is absolutely marvelous).
    I was really put off by the lack of an Aux In since I use a Roland P-6 for my Flamenco backing tracks, but realized that you can use the effect return block to achieve the same thing (with an adapter). And , of course, one can always use a Roland GO: Mixer Pro-X (I hope anyway, mine arrives tomorrow).
    But it is really penny-wise and pound-foolish that Boss didn't provide an Aux In (as I remember, there wasn't one in my (now sold) GT-1000Core either, but I'll have to check the specs again to make sure. OTH, if I'm wrong, I'm sure someone here will let me know..:)

      I do agree...the OD 200 is really nice...I have done some videos about it in the channel with also some comparisons, for instance vs a klon...
      As regards the aux in, as far as I remember it is missing also in the GT 1000, but the GT 1000 has Bluetooth, so basically you have the BT 20 installed...that you should add to the GX 10 ...

      @@LeoGibsonGtr Interestingly (and it may be just my ears on a particular day), but I found the GX-10 OD's even better than the OD-200. I think the main reason is that the OD-200 s meant to go in front of a Boss Amp, where the GX-10 is going into the Headrush FRFR GO. I have a lot of Boss Amps, but only realized that they are amp models (except for the most recent), and don't include effects.
      But the main epiphany for me (nylon string Flamenco) was the Adeline pickup, which sound great straight into the GO if I roll off the bass on the G) (the bass strings are more powerful than the trebles on a nylon string guitar0.
      There are other pickups now that work well, but none with 1/4" outputs (except the Fishman Aura Pro and the Takamine CT-4DX, which are expensive.

    Boss is the only unit that gives you the ability to use two amps at the same time, that allows you to get any tone you would want. Imho it's better feature than having more amp models in the unit.

    The Boss GX-10 has Bluetooth which is better than a 1/8 inch plug in. Why do you ignore this? The latency is a higher priority for me. The Boss GX-10 is the most reliable. How many Boss pedals out there have been out there for decades, millions. For me, the Boss GX-10 is best. I can use two Boss GX-10 units. One in the effects loop of my guitar amp mainly for delay effects. And the other in the front end mainly for overdrive effects. Boss IR might be proprietary but it's Boss, a major company. I know the Boss unit will be the most reliable. It's also the most versatile. It's updatable via USB. The best sound with the lowest latency.

      @@LeoGibsonGtr I don't mind paying extra for brilliant engineering such as the Boss Bluetooth thing. A DI box is not anything special. I use a Boss ME-90 and I use the Bluetooth option with that. I run the ME-90 in manual mode, where it's strength lies. The GX-10 has it's strength in memory mode. The ability to run dual amps puts the GX-10 in a higher level of functionality. I also have been using the new Fender '59 Tone Master Bassman. It is a beautiful monster of an amp. I discovered that I need a 31 band EQ to get the exact sound I want. The speakers can flub if driven hard enough at the low frequencies. But the sound is pure musical tweed gold.

    The Boss GX-10 is the pedal that I dreamt of having. I mean, I have the GX-100 and it was perfect for me since I don’t need to have those of the GT-1000 or other flagship multi effects or modelers. Even the GX-100 is too much but the quality of sounds and the number of effects plus the AIRD amps are more than enough for me. Another thing is I can put 3rd party IR’s and having lots of slots is more than enough since I only use a couple (around 5-6 amps/cabs sims) of amps/cabs that suits my style of playing. Now going back to the GX-10, the thing I love is its compact design plus it uses a newer USB type C. Aside from its compact design, I mainly use 1 control switch and the UP DOWN switch for my patches. I don’t use manual mode since I really take the time to create my patches and let the control switch enable some modulation parts or the solo part of the song. I know some people would love to have a lot of switch for total control but as I said, I take time to create and manage every patch and I am just using minimal sounds or tones per song. I love the GX-100, I really do but this Boss GX-10 is the one that I am looking for a multi effects processor. It has an identical specs and power of the GX-100 but in a compact design. I’d still keep my GX-100 though 😁 but this GX-10 will be my partner for everything from now on (or should I say once I get it since I preordered 😅). Always a pleasure watching your videos Leo! @LeoGibsonGtr and another thing that I love most with the unit is the latency and the carryover effects when switching. Even other flagship multi effects can't do that when switching. The latency is really low that it's unnoticeable especially when switching from solo with delay/reverb to normal mode. By the way, I just watched your latest video on the Boss GX-10 and it was fantastically informative. Always love watching these types of videos with unbiased views and REAL information with firsthand experience plus the skill of playing is on another level. Always a pleasure Leo! 🥂

    The Matribox and Valeton sounds so bad compared to the other 2.
    Boss is definitely the winner tho.

      Yes, typically they sound very good especialy with Soldano...maybe the plexi is not as good...as for instance it misses the double volume knobs that the plexi has.

    Do you think you can set up Tone X One to work the midi in and out on the Sonicake? That alone makes it worth more than any of those units. Boss dropped the ball not adding Midi. Maybe they will add midi over usb in a future update.

    • @LeoGibsonGtr
      @LeoGibsonGtr  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi, the ToneX one does not have MIDI ports, but only MIDI over USB, therefore I guess you would need an external MIDI device with both midi over usb and regular midi ports to drive the ToneX One and the Sonicake.
      Thank you

      @@LeoGibsonGtr I just discovered what MIDI is. I can code in Arduino and have coded using I2C protocall. This is very simallar to MIDIUSB. I am going to create a dedicated USB to USB midi cable for Tone X One and the Valeton GP-100 :) Basically if the device it talks to a USB remote editor its speaking MIDIUSB.

    • @LeoGibsonGtr
      @LeoGibsonGtr  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi, I did in my initial comparisons and then I thought it was not interesting as typically we have hundreds of presets, and some more or some less do not make too much difference. But of course for some of us it may be an interesting information.

    Good comparison. The Valeton sounds very different because of the model you used, which is based on a 60s plexi (UK SLP), the UK800 or UK900 would have better for this comparison, those models are similar to the others you used

    • @LeoGibsonGtr
      @LeoGibsonGtr  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The SLP should be the Plexi, where the UK 900 and 800 should be JCM 800 or 900, right?
      Thanks!

    • @andreschamat
      @andreschamat 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @LeoGibsonGtr well, in the Valeton they call several models "Plexi". I don't know if that is correct or wrong, but the 800 and 900 sound more modern and closer to the other pedals you compared. The UK SLP in Valeton sounds good for a 60s era amp, but in this context sounds out of place and gives a bad impression of what the Valeton can do. Just my opinion, cheers 🙂

    NUX sounds the most adequate. Good to see new and smaller companies appear to rival the old ones. Surprised that Boss still can't make convincing processors after their Katana success. Sounds like product from some other company with double O in the name and it's not Mooer.

    Leo, there is a bit incorect tech spec info:. Boss GX-10 has 4.3 inch screen (not 5 inch, as shown in Your video). However, Boss is really hiding this info :D . I searched the web, and there is no official info on screen size. At BOSS site I fund that screen resolution is the same as GX-100. There several sources, pionting that the screen is the seame as GX-100 , that means it is 4.3 inch.
