No, it would cost just as much as that. Most of our routes will need realignment as they have very tight curves and rather steep gradients. The tracks will need to be of a much higher standard so they can sustain the momentum of heavy trains running at those speeds. The overhead wires will need to be upgraded to be tighter. Signalling system will need to be completely revamped. Bridges, tunnels, overpasses, underpasses and stations will need to be retrofitted with the new alignment of tracks along with adjusting to the higher speeds of the trains. You will have to say goodbye to Non AC coaches entirely as even if only a handful of trains are allowed to run at 250 km/h, route clearance will be very difficult and time consuming if there are many other trains trundling at 110 to 130 km/h (trains having non AC coaches) on the same route ahead and behind the high speed trains. You cannot run non AC coaches beyond 130 km/h safely. After 160 km/h, aerodynamic conditions become significantly demanding. So all trains will either have to be fully AC LHB trains with WAP5 locomotives, or fully AC EMU trainsets like Vande Bharat express to run in the speed range of atleast 160 to 200 km/h so that those few 250 km/h trains can run without delay. Can you now see how easily the cost escalates with your idea? That is the reason why we are building dedicated HSR Corridors so that we can have more HSTs operating at higher speeds (320 km/h) on their own tracks.
@@thetechnocrat4979both ideas should be mixed. Dedicated broad gauge tracks to decongest existing trunk routes whilst allowing specific AC high speed capable trains to go faster. This will simultaneously allow both more general low cost and high speed high cost trains to ply on these routes whilst allowing them to use shared infra like stations and short sections of track

I want to add following observations. I think a deeper understanding of engg & railway planning is called for. Shall be happy if these observations are commented upon. 1) In USA trains regularly touch 180km/hr on tracks with wooden sleepers & blast. We have issues in touching even 160km/hr with concrete sleepers over blast type tracks. 2) In Germany high speed ICE trains run on tracks with slabs only at speeds above 250km/hr. At speeds lower than this, tracks are with blast & concrete sleepers for the same high speed trains. 3) In Italy high speed tracks are with blast & concrete sleepers. Like in France trains touch speeds of 320km/hr. 4) In India, during 1980s most high traffic tracks were converted to concrete sleepers from wooden ones on blast and continuously welded rails. A lot of money must have been spent on this, but max speeds were 120km/hr only. If rail strength was an issue, one should wonder why the these were not upgraded as well in one go?
Good observations..... As u said "if rail strength was an issue", it is an issue and we shud have upgraded in one go but this was not the only issue, curves and gradients will still be there Our gatimaan goes at 160kmph from delhi to agra, it is an amazing section, full fences etc, but its not long enough to sustain that speed, i definetly think if it would have been longer and less curves our gatimaan and Vande bharat would go faster, (as we start to approach mathura station, where it does not stop, i mean, speed should be reduced near a station but there is big curve near the station which limits the speed even more
India can start upgrading some segments of its rail network to allow for semi high speeds, Vande Bharat trains can speed up on those segments. The French rail network also has such straight and level segments where their TGV trains speed up. Bit by big we can upgrade most of our network this way. In the future the regular rail lines could run semi high-speed EMU trains like vande bharat, while the elevated bullet train lines could run super high-speed trains thay focus on speed rather than volume.
Hey, I have an idea for our railways. Why can't we model our railways on how internet protocol works? Like instead of running dedicated trains between multiple points, which then have to be carefully managed to avoid collisions; we can have different destination for different coaches on same train, for common path of each destination. Example : If people want to go from A to B, C and D. And all routes are common till point A1. Then merge the coaches of all trains till A1. At point A1, the coaches can split off and go on different direction. Again on another direction, these coaches can merge with a different set of coaches, having common route. In this way, we don't need multiple trains. And we can always run periodic trains between any 2 points. People can climb on any train at any time. Depending on final destination, they can be asisgned the right coach, which can split and merge until they reach final destination. This will reduce accidents, and also reduce delays due to intermediate crossings between trains.

Ballast or ballast less is irrelevant. We need trains which can go at true high speed. Planes cannot move people in bulk, train can. I am surprised that there is so much opposition to Vande Bharat which is not even a high speed train. In a decade or two the same lot who think it is elitist today, would be complaining about the short sightedness of the then government, in not planning for a fast, efficient mass transport systems across cities. They don't even stop to think that, at least for the excuse of running that train, the railways will be forced to upgrade the tracks and the signaling system and that the entire railway network shall benefit. If we don't plan for true high speed trains today, our airports will be in a state of mess tomorrow, plane fares would be super costly and unaffordable to everyone except the elite and waiting lists will resemble like those for trains today. Migrant laborers will benefit as well as many of them are daily wagers and if the network is upgraded it can save them a day or two which implies a day or two's earnings. Unfortunately the average Indian doesn't think on these lines falls to the sophistry of a few agenda driven you tubers and some vested interests who do not want the country to develop at all.

before we start bashing the Indian railways, remember one thing that for decades, Railways was under the control of the government and every change took years to implement. now on technical issues, pls notice you tube videos of French Trains. most of them are smaller at 10-12 coaches and with 40-60% occupancy, even that is due to the new law which says, flights of 200km or less are not allowed if there is a TVG alternative available. and in India, the trains are 18-19 coaches average, but many have upto 24 coaches and many trains often carry upto 130% of the passengers, and in some areas, the % is often 250%. Indian railways cannot risk so many lives by trying to run faster trains on slower tracks. there are too many curves, too many stations enroute where tracks have to curve to serve 4-5 platforms, eg New Delhi has 18platforms i think (Howrah has more but then it is a terminal station ie trains can only come in and have to go back same way) where trains from all corners of India come in and leave the station. and the most important thing, unlike France, we do not have an unlimited money source (France literally own many African countries where a part of that country's earnings goes into France coffers) and France is way smaller than India so it can afford to upgrade its rail infrastructure much faster and quicker compared to India
Ek aur baat hai. Indian railway itni busy hain hai ki koi bhi upgradation ke liye kafi sari services ko suspend karna padega. Fir us government ke saath usse bhi jyada bura hoga jitna Modiji ke saath is baar hua.
India is basically late. It now needs to think that what it can do to make things better for the things that is already with us. Here railways are more busy in bringing or designing new trains. But what they forgot is advanced level tracks. Its ok if your tracks are capable of handling 600kmph train speed but your trains actually run at just 300kmph. These can be slowly be upgraded with proper precuation and safety measures through out the railway network. But here the railways want vande bharat and these and that. Whats the use of those trains if they cant run at double or triple the speed of what the current fatest train can run(before vande bharat). You are basically throwing the country way behind then even china. We dont want to compare but we need those high speed railways so that multiple journeys can be made in a shorter time and eventually waiting list shit can be reduced if not stopped to a greater extent. Still i hope now railway thinks of at least making both trains and tracks capable of 400kmph constant speed. Plus we public must now needs to think that we need to even pay to get for what we dream off. Dont expect non sense discount, privilege system, low fair for premium service.etc. Pay for what you need or else dont speak against anything. Also railways needs to focus on equal distribution of its services on such kind of trains.

India should upgrade its existing tracks to attain minimum 250km/hr speed. It will not cost much compared to building new tracks
Really who told u that...

Reality is our track systems designed 100 years ago and installed and maintained for the past 5 decades was mainly for slow moving cargo/goods and mass transit ... Safety was more important than speed.

I used to work in Paris some 35 years back. There I found that the TGV tracks were different where non TGV trains did not travel. Other trains used different tracks. In Japan, last seen in 2016, the Shinkansen tracks were for JR only. I never saw non bullet trains on these tracks. Other companies were using their own tracks. This segregation is necessary to run different speed trains in the country.

As u said "if rail strength was an issue",
it is an issue and we shud have upgraded in one go but this was not the only issue, curves and gradients will still be there
Our gatimaan goes at 160kmph from delhi to agra, it is an amazing section, full fences etc, but its not long enough to sustain that speed, i definetly think if it would have been longer and less curves our gatimaan and Vande bharat would go faster, (as we start to approach mathura station, where it does not stop, i mean, speed should be reduced near a station but there is big curve near the station which limits the speed even more
The slabs have different grades and same for tracks too.
Also in US the railway is pathetic

India can start upgrading some segments of its rail network to allow for semi high speeds, Vande Bharat trains can speed up on those segments. The French rail network also has such straight and level segments where their TGV trains speed up.
Bit by big we can upgrade most of our network this way.
In the future the regular rail lines could run semi high-speed EMU trains like vande bharat, while the elevated bullet train lines could run super high-speed trains thay focus on speed rather than volume.

Bro do a video on why we can or cannot have At-Grade Bullet trains with high quality fencing? This can reduce costs.

High speed lines need investment in Billions and Govt can’t spend them straightaways. Need to invest in phase wise. Ppl should accept high prices.
The biggest problem in India is congestion on tracks, also length of trains is too long to sustain high speeds
Just imagine, what peaceful will do the on unprotected track that too on speeding train😢
Your problem is curves in railway tracks. It has nothing to do with ballast. Wrong information is being given. You need self levelling or tilting trains on curved tracks at high speed like the Swedish x2000.
Curves have to be done because land acquisition is difficult in India.
Without curves Railway would cease to exist considering the population & home density of India with various kind of topography

Migrant laborers will benefit as well as many of them are daily wagers and if the network is upgraded it can save them a day or two which implies a day or two's earnings. before we start bashing the Indian railways, remember one thing that for decades, Railways was under the control of the government and every change took years to implement.
now on technical issues, pls notice you tube videos of French Trains. most of them are smaller at 10-12 coaches and with 40-60% occupancy, even that is due to the new law which says, flights of 200km or less are not allowed if there is a TVG alternative available.
and in India, the trains are 18-19 coaches average, but many have upto 24 coaches and many trains often carry upto 130% of the passengers, and in some areas, the % is often 250%.
Indian railways cannot risk so many lives by trying to run faster trains on slower tracks.
there are too many curves, too many stations enroute where tracks have to curve to serve 4-5 platforms, eg New Delhi has 18platforms i think (Howrah has more but then it is a terminal station ie trains can only come in and have to go back same way) where trains from all corners of India come in and leave the station.
and
the most important thing, unlike France, we do not have an unlimited money source (France literally own many African countries where a part of that country's earnings goes into France coffers) and France is way smaller than India so it can afford to upgrade its rail infrastructure much faster and quicker compared to India
Please support BSNL 😢😢😢
