Yesterday I flew into one of the stations to rescue some civilians, forgetting that I had to have cabins on board. I was flying back out when my cargo hatch malfunctioned, dropping an occupied escape pod that I had rescued from an unrelated Thargoid attack. RIP that guy. Edit: Forgot to mention that I was _fined_ for dropping cargo in the exploding station.
Well, I had seen that some people making fun of the rescue thing. Like 10 people need to get rescued, but you need to friendly with us (Fixed now) And other had been killed to the station where they rescued the people from
Honestly though, the entire thargoid thing has so much potential. You could have Explorers running around and mapping the soon-to-be battlegrounds, smugglers entering thargoid space trying to stay undetected whilst attempting to also get intel, traders and miners collect material thats used to build megaships, etc.
Unrealized? They clearly don't have the resources to develop such things. This is clear given the pace at which new content has been released after release.
If you look a the list of stuff that was released into E:D during 2017 and what will be released in 2018, they are both impressive lists. I think that people just want more all the time!
This makes me think that the thargoids we currently encounter aren’t the aggressive ones Think about it You can fly around them without trouble They’ll give you warning and a chance to leave before attacking When they hyperdict you they tend not to attack right away They didn’t flat out destroy the stations. They simple disabled the stations that created weapons to fight them, and let people evacuate Surely if these were the aggressive ones, they’d flat out destroy everyone and everything they came into contact with
Now this is the kind of content we come for. Space, spaceships, spacestations, aliens, science and, of course, human-spaceship reproduction considerations.
Yeah you'll want your shields up in there. As you see there are explosion that will knock you about and flying debris that will screw up your ship without shields.
Elite Dangerous: Lets go on a christmas sale! Me: Huh, ED is on sale. *Opens steam to check price* Steam: ED = £5, Horizons = £10 Me: YESSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *Pays*
Yeah Elite Dangerous powers all of their settlements/stations and ships with fusion power. So that ball in the back of the station was a fusion reactor with super hot hydrogen spinning around.
That second station was definitely missing part of the Habitation ring, so maybe the first one was just lucky, and not the Thargoids "avoiding civilian casualties"
yea, they might be attempting to inflict the mass amount of damage they can before they have to leave, I do not believe they know the insides of the stations... yet
Scott, It look like the ovoid object for The Oracle is presumably a Tokamak Fusion reactor due to the stream at 9:21. That is what I have seen with Tokamak fusion reactor prototypes, though this would be drastically more powerful and hotter given that the stream is blue and not red, and a hell of a lot denser.
Might have to get back into this. Things appear to be getting interesting. Haven’t played ED in quite a while and my ship will be woefully unprepared for anything Thargoid related.
Scott, I love your gaming videos. I actually bought this game because of watching you play. You really helped me blow up Kerbals good, too. Keep up the good work!
Make more elite: Dangerous videos!!!! I started watching you because of kerbal but you have got me sucked into elite dangerous in the process! keep up the great videos, always love your content.
It's pretty fantastic, but really damn pricey, grab it on a sale humble bundle is a great place to find sales on games, as many other places, but if you can, do try to get it off steam to eliminate many problems from happening
Every time I see one of your videos, you make me super excited that I'm going to be getting a good pc later next year, because there are so many games I need to play because of you lol.
Dave Ristoro Now how many are flying? Sometimes I'll visit popular spits and the people just around and relax in the station. I do get people in multicrew still which is nice when I want to have fun. (Granted it works)
Go take a look at the attacked station's powerplant on the opposite end of the station from the 'mail slot', now do you understand the comm's interference? 😊👍
I'm rather new at ED but I am curious... Do the stations that hang around ringed systems cross through the rings at any point? Technically they would if their inclination was different than the rings themselves.... Just Curious....
Do you have a link to your conda build? Mine is optimized for jump range (and kinda hybrid for multipurpose), but I want some variation where I don't take 5 minutes to turn.
Heat and radiation if you fly round the ship you can see the exposed fusion reactor they can get the heat out to they need to dump it into the docking nay and don't forget about radiation
0:11 how is that fire burning in space without oxygen? I know there's oxygen from inside the station, but that section of the station would've lost all the oxygen into space by now.
I need to get back into this game and get into the fight. I didn't realise how bad the situation has gotten. I remember the first few days after the first attack. Now this. #Makethegalaxyfreeagain
i wonder if there are still damaged stations today. got into my dolphin yesterday to do some missions for a small landing pad. and i can't seem to overheat it even if i try. (does not go above 65 degree's even if i am fuel scooping at max capacity while charging my frameshift drive to go to the next location)
Watching this years later... and I'm convinced to play again. I stop playing good games to play new good games. I didn't stop because I didn't enjoy it just didn't enjoy it as much as new experiences... I'm thinking that I shouldn't have stopped. I experienced so little in the 94 hours that I played. I'm reinstalling.
Hopefully I have time to grind to be able to be part of the Thargoid war. Some players helped me a bit in the beginning and right now I have a Cobra MkIII. I really just don't know how to efficiently make money and when I try to make commercial missions I don't know where to go.
Scott, i'm a huge fan of your videos about Elite: Dangerous since a few years and i just discovered Eve online and now i'm sitting here asking myselfe: why isn't he doing more Eve content? I would love to see more eve on your chanal. BTW. greetings from germany :D
No , the thing about a game like Elite is that it can be rather Solo. You can start playing and slowly work your way up to whatever you want to do. It might take you a while to gather as much dosh as mr.manley here but nothing stops you from checking all these things out in a cheap ship.
I feel that i would love to just discover things instead of fighting... can you get random attack from people or is the universe too big and you never see anyone ?!
The universe is REALLY big but there's something called the "bubble" (look it up) where most of the players/npc's live. Outside the bubble it's rare to even see a player or an NPC. I've never been interdicted(attacked) by a player. If you're too worried about PVP you can always do Solo play. Yes you will see random players doing their thing inside our outside the bubble. You notice them by an unfilled square. The filled ones are NPC's.
Dethmeister A heat sink, you launch them from your ship to stop it overheating. As for the safety aspect of firing it in a space station, I do not think it matters as the space station in question was engulfed in flames :^)
I am currently still new to this game but I dont see why so many are upset about how long things take. It's a (space simulator) I mean what did they think the game was going to be? Only dogfighting other ships and earning billions in a day? There are plenty of space battle games already for that Edit: if you want true immersion and a game you can play for longer than 3 days. This seems to be the game for you
jevry there's a faction that was created by players and they are in control of 1 station I think. I mean, that developers made a group created by players into an in-game faction.
MajorShepard same. I'm halfway between Jacques and sag A about 800 ly below the plane XD I was gonna come back via barnards loop and the pleades as well but now I'm rethinking that option hahaha
For me I'm in an Asp Explorer and on the way to Salome's derelict ship...I went the wrong way so now I have to go back and go the long way lol. It's going to take weeks/months to get back to civilised space.
I love your videos Scott, but that joke about Princess Leia was literally on the front page of the subreddit a few hours ago. I hope that was coincidence.
Man while all this cool stuff is going on hundreds of miles away from the bubble, I’m stuck in Gateway deep in Alliance space unable to jump more than 7 light years trying to scrape together enough trade money to get a better ship; I’m just gonna stay in the bubble until the next big thing comes around so I can leave for thst
Recently watched (the original) blade runner, nope. In the beginning in shows a huge sprawling factory/city area with towers spewing fire. Alien is probably applicable too.

That guy got cooked inside his little death pod.
kek
Honestly though, the entire thargoid thing has so much potential. The whole of ED has so much unrealised potential.
Unrealized? They clearly don't have the resources to develop such things. This is clear given the pace at which new content has been released after release.
If you look a the list of stuff that was released into E:D during 2017 and what will be released in 2018, they are both impressive lists. I think that people just want more all the time!
if the community fails, it's either going to be a desperate battlefield battle, or, a lot of small skirmishes in order to keep them killed
This makes me think that the thargoids we currently encounter aren’t the aggressive ones
Think about it
You can fly around them without trouble
They’ll give you warning and a chance to leave before attacking

You are wise
It is confirmed there are basically two factions of them
Now this is the kind of content we come for. Space, spaceships, spacestations, aliens, science and, of course, human-spaceship reproduction considerations.
The roleplay that these missions generate, is sensational!
Lower your shields. I have observed that they will hold heat around your ship if they are up. (I use this to get closer to stars to refuel safely).
That's related to the amount of power they consume. The power plant generates heat depending on how much power it has to provide.
Nah i'm turning everything else off but things explode and bump you around.
Yeah you'll want your shields up in there. As you see there are explosion that will knock you about and flying debris that will screw up your ship without shields.
n.steam exactly. When shutting everything but core systems down, heat is significantly reduced.
Loved the shots of the last station. such a gorgeous system.
Elite Dangerous: Lets go on a christmas sale!
Me: Huh, ED is on sale. *Opens steam to check price*
Steam: ED = £5, Horizons = £10
Me: YESSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *Pays*
Yeah Elite Dangerous powers all of their settlements/stations and ships with fusion power. So that ball in the back of the station was a fusion reactor with super hot hydrogen spinning around.
I have a washing machine, I have a camera and a tripod, now off to find a hot ball bearing. I am going to be rich!
That second station was definitely missing part of the Habitation ring, so maybe the first one was just lucky, and not the Thargoids "avoiding civilian casualties"
yea, they might be attempting to inflict the mass amount of damage they can before they have to leave, I do not believe they know the insides of the stations... yet
Blain Crighton the stations do have significant weaponry, I'm suprised stations close to maia aren't all adding anti thargoid weapons to themselves
Yeah, the Cyclops was Threat 5, Basilisk is Threat 6, and now Medusa is Threat 7.

I'm just a Vulture guy. How do you think I'D fare?
I'm a Vulture guy too
switched to Federal Assault Ship to not get fucking torn apart like sandpaper
I love my Vulture. But uh. Oh dear. Thargoids be a bit out of my weight class.
Olysk8er i have only a trade conda, stripped down to the minimum.....rip me if thargoids get futher in the bubble
Scott, I love your gaming videos. I actually bought this game because of watching you play. You really helped me blow up Kerbals good, too. Keep up the good work!
Red hot ball bearing in a washing machine that's being crushed by a hydraulic press.
Elite: Dangerous - now too hot to handle.
XD
Not too hot to handle by a hotshot pilot though :P
Especially since Star Citizen is getting sued :(
Only if you are a senior citizen
Better than Star Citizen, it's buggy as hell...and instead of make the game working, they produce thousands of useless vehicles....
Make more elite: Dangerous videos!!!! I started watching you because of kerbal but you have got me sucked into elite dangerous in the process! keep up the great videos, always love your content.
I don't even play this game and I love watching.
It's pretty fantastic, but really damn pricey, grab it on a sale
humble bundle is a great place to find sales on games, as many other places, but if you can, do try to get it off steam to eliminate many problems from happening
Every time I see one of your videos, you make me super excited that I'm going to be getting a good pc later next year, because there are so many games I need to play because of you lol.
The console versions of Elite are just fine.
Looks like the situation is really escalating! Seems a large alliance will be needed to beat back this threat.
I wonder if the remaining ~1000 players can gather their forces.
ouch
wait what? so did basically everyone but 1000 players leave or everyone but 1k players still have their shit intact?
"I wonder if the remaining ~1000 players can gather their forces."
On Steam alone, right now there are 4,436 playing.
Dave Ristoro Now how many are flying? Sometimes I'll visit popular spits and the people just around and relax in the station. I do get people in multicrew still which is nice when I want to have fun. (Granted it works)
Scott's anaconda don't want none unless you've been to suns, hun.
But what of the droid attack on the Wookiees?
Twice the pride double the fall
Go take a look at the attacked station's powerplant on the opposite end of the station from the 'mail slot', now do you understand the comm's interference? 😊👍
Medusa looks armed to the teeth, can't wait to see people taking them on solo.
You won't see those people, because they're dead.
and the Thargoids aren't even trying yet......
I wish you had been in open... I was out there last night. would have been cool to see you
I asked on my Discord and nobody responded.
hmmm i guess is should get on your discord... how do I get to it? I am on the West coast in So Cal so would be the same time zone
ok i found your discord
Hello, Obsidian Manley :-D
"Red hot steel in a washing machine" is something they actually did on Beyond The Press.
14:29 What are you talking about? It's clearly blue and black...
Don't they use hydrogen fusion for their energy generation?
when it comes to fire in space i am willing to suspend my disbelief for the rule of cool
Same with sound. Sound is a sensory for us. We are used to it. So what if it's not accurate....it allows us to be more involved with the experience.
5:40 That ship is called "Hotel California".
Commander, shots fired DIRECT HIT!!! Those damn ball bearings are going down :P
Thanks for the channel ideas!
I'm rather new at ED but I am curious... Do the stations that hang around ringed systems cross through the rings at any point? Technically they would if their inclination was different than the rings themselves.... Just Curious....
@Scott Manley just so you are aware, the ships are powered by a cold fusion reactor. Thus why your ship uses hydrogen as fuel.
Do you have a link to your conda build? Mine is optimized for jump range (and kinda hybrid for multipurpose), but I want some variation where I don't take 5 minutes to turn.
The flame effect could be caused by venting.
Oh, I miss damaged starports
I visited Obsidian Orbital the one time it was damaged but now they’re all gone
How id you manage to get three Bobble-heads aside from the David Braben one.
4:34 - lol, there is actually a video on red hot ball bearing placed in washing machine on YT :D
How does the damage of the station affect the quality of the holograms on your well-kept ship?
Heat and radiation if you fly round the ship you can see the exposed fusion reactor they can get the heat out to they need to dump it into the docking nay and don't forget about radiation
0:11 how is that fire burning in space without oxygen? I know there's oxygen from inside the station, but that section of the station would've lost all the oxygen into space by now.
I need to get back into this game and get into the fight. I didn't realise how bad the situation has gotten. I remember the first few days after the first attack. Now this. #Makethegalaxyfreeagain
I am guessing this event isn't running anymore. First time I saw this, and it looks really fun actually to go check out the destroyed stations.
The end is nigh! Buy my anti-thargoid charms!
At the beginning when he was saying it looked like Blade Runner, that's exactly what I thought right as those fire puffs happened lol
Holy shit. This game became amazing pretty fast. Last time I checked up on it you couldn't land on planets
Station tells you to get out quickly while you still can,
*gets a fine for speeding*
Silly Scott, the stations are in Boom state because they're all going boom on the inside.
The fire would follow the vector of vent...its gushing out so it would have momentum, wouldn't it?
i wonder if there are still damaged stations today. got into my dolphin yesterday to do some missions for a small landing pad.
and i can't seem to overheat it even if i try.
(does not go above 65 degree's even if i am fuel scooping at max capacity while charging my frameshift drive to go to the next location)
Yes, they still exist and they're a fun thing to do at least once.
So are the thargoids the ships themselfs or are they just manning them?
Scotts idea about washing machines and ball bearings made me have bad ideas.
9:14 High tech fusion "donut" reactor?
I’m a returning player
I last played when landing on a planet was the new thing
What have I missed
what if the flames were being fed by venting atmosphere? then what's it look like?
Watching this years later... and I'm convinced to play again. I stop playing good games to play new good games. I didn't stop because I didn't enjoy it just didn't enjoy it as much as new experiences...
I'm thinking that I shouldn't have stopped. I experienced so little in the 94 hours that I played. I'm reinstalling.

Wouldn't the venting oxygen create that turbulence-effect with the fire?
Scott, i'm a huge fan of your videos about Elite: Dangerous since a few years and i just discovered Eve online and now i'm sitting here asking myselfe: why isn't he doing more Eve content? I would love to see more eve on your chanal. BTW. greetings from germany :D
Is it too late to start playing Elite ?!
The PS4 version was only released a few months ago, it's not like it's an MMO, in fact you can play it solo.
Alright thanks for answering !!
No , the thing about a game like Elite is that it can be rather Solo.
You can start playing and slowly work your way up to whatever you want to do. It might take you a while to gather as much dosh as mr.manley here but nothing stops you from checking all these things out in a cheap ship.

Yes you will see random players doing their thing inside our outside the bubble. You notice them by an unfilled square. The filled ones are NPC's.
Just say the fire has lots of venting gas around it and call it good. :P
They will never leave the Pleiades Sector. Core Systems are safe. Right? Right?
Which systems are these stations in?
How do i change the cockpit light colours?
getting some alien isolation vibes here...
Not played Elite Dangerous for so so so long. Is this a limited time event?
Can you save everyone? Or is there an infinite amount of people in there?
What's that hot ball bearing thing? Is it part of the heat dissipation? Seems dangerous to shoot it out in a space station.
Dethmeister A heat sink, you launch them from your ship to stop it overheating. As for the safety aspect of firing it in a space station, I do not think it matters as the space station in question was engulfed in flames :^)

Edit: if you want true immersion and a game you can play for longer than 3 days. This seems to be the game for you
Are thargoids Horizons only or are they in default too?
Base game has them.
so wait the stations are player owned?
oh no wait that was eve
jevry there's a faction that was created by players and they are in control of 1 station I think. I mean, that developers made a group created by players into an in-game faction.
Important question: Will they bother me when i fly around looking at all the new and interesting planets to be releaased in about 2025?
and here I am halfway between Jacques and Sag A :p
I'm out near Beagle Point...
I can't believe i'm missing all this cuz I'm in the middle of nowhere lol
MajorShepard same. I'm halfway between Jacques and sag A about 800 ly below the plane XD
I was gonna come back via barnards loop and the pleades as well but now I'm rethinking that option hahaha
ShumaiAxeman same! I just started to fly from Colonia to Sag A but after that it's back to the bubble
Steffen Meyer I'm in a python at least so I can maybe last half a second more than I would've in my Asp if a thargon decides to nibble my giblets
For me I'm in an Asp Explorer and on the way to Salome's derelict ship...I went the wrong way so now I have to go back and go the long way lol. It's going to take weeks/months to get back to civilised space.
MajorShepard self-destruct?
I love your videos Scott, but that joke about Princess Leia was literally on the front page of the subreddit a few hours ago. I hope that was coincidence.
I recorded this last night, great minds think alike.
Which ships can carry passengers?
Harry Butcher any that can have a passenger cabin put in
Harry Butcher Everything, even a sidewinder but I wouldn't recommend that. Best take a conda, python, vette, imperial, Orca, Beluga.
Red hot ball bearing challenge sounds like beyond the press territory
4:34.
I hope carsandwater is watching
...but the ring is the primary habitation area.
Man while all this cool stuff is going on hundreds of miles away from the bubble, I’m stuck in Gateway deep in Alliance space unable to jump more than 7 light years trying to scrape together enough trade money to get a better ship; I’m just gonna stay in the bubble until the next big thing comes around so I can leave for thst
man that white and gold expo paintjob. i want one =(
I guess Scott Manly has been watching RHNB (red hot nickel ball) lately
How manly is Manley? 11.
Did you mean alien instead of blade runner?
Recently watched (the original) blade runner, nope. In the beginning in shows a huge sprawling factory/city area with towers spewing fire. Alien is probably applicable too.
I'm going to be that guy.
Fires in space.
1:56 the alarms sound like the Roblox death sound... a little bit.
I think tomorrow I'm gonna go do that, would be a change of pace
...oracle station was an inside job....
I'm pleasantly surprised by the content, a nice change to the usual stuff but this kind of thing needs to happen more often, just to keep missions from being stale in the toaster rack
Such a static experience... :(
so you go ftl and the ship is like "ok i can handdle the heat"...but you enter a pressurised station dock with a bunch of fires and the ship is like "omg this is hotter than a star!!!" ...kind of stupid .
Splundig vur Thrigg, Earthlets
maybe by feeding them escape pods with people in it the thargoids have now developed a taste for human flesh and a large amount bitterness from the new weapons used on them.
I hear "Scots Livestream" I immediately move to Twitch :)
better get on that niche you made at 4:30 Scott, sure you can pass it off as scientific!
hmmm is it just me or there's a snowman in the center of the thargoid when he first see them ? (07:07) :D
