Exactly what Waterlubber said... I only explore in Solo, because that is the only mode, where taking ultra-high quality screenshots is enabled.

Went to Jaques in my Cobra Mk3 with 18LY jump range. Never again.

There's some great barnacle clusters within about 1 jump range of Merope in Pleiades Sector JC-U B3-2. I always head to those because even if one or more sets of barnacles have been felled there's usually an untouched set a few hundred meters away.
Jacques Station... Brings back fond memories from those ancient Frontier days.
I'd love to have been able to get in to Elite Dangerous, but it just never clicked with me. :(
Yeah, it's one of those kinds of games. Suffers from a bad windwaker syndrome just because of how far away two stars can really be from one another, or how far out planets can really get. It's a big game, it can make alot of people feel isolated, overwhelmed, or feel too shallow because the field was made too big without enough content to fill the gap just yet.
All I can say is, can't wait to hunt me some space dinos XD
a neat thing about the Damocles is it was in one of the trailers where the pilot accepted a combat bond

Scott, I recently started playing ED after being off it for about 6 months...Wow! I had to get back to the basics, especially all of the key commands. Feeling old! I'm relocating overseas, but as soon as I'm back up and plugged in I too will make the run out to the new station.

On my way there myself, about 2500ly's out.. Found my first Earthlike, and it is in a system with 3 water worlds, two of which are terraformable. Hoping for a decent pay on that one

Bon voyage, Scott! I reached Jacques this morning with a very battered Asp (I pancaked a planet and got caught in a binary system between two A's) . . . I only had a 24 ly jump range as I was fully laden (and hadn't done Engineers), so this has taken a while. Great feeling upon arrival . . . . now, do i wait for repair services before I head out again . . . hmmm.
Hot damn, this'll be an interesting series. I hope you intend to scan certain systems or stop by some interesting stars on the way there! Maybe you'll find a habitable planet or moon.

If you haven't seen Sagittarius A yet, I'd highly recommend the detour on the way back.
It is actually easier to gather materials now (you get 3 instead of one). Moreover, the rank 5 increased range FSD range doesn't require polonium anymore. Materials are also easier to find, as they are listed in the system maps with their concentration.
They put Jacques station as well as the Engineers out there while I was in deep space. My original goal was to reach Sag A*, but I'll divert to head to the station and drop off my discoveries.
God speed, my last trip that size I got burn out and had to stop playing for a few months lol
2.2 will take some of the relentless, soul crushing material collecting and RNG dependence out of the engineers stuff. I might try playing again after that, but for now I'm just burned out. It's grind atop grind right now that I don't have time for.

you still have to grind out mission commodities and materials but the recent patch is a step in the right direction

Funnily enough, I'm en-route to Jacques at the moment. Only have a 25Ly jump range sadly, so a lot more jumps for me.

I finally set out for Jacques Station yesterday in my unmodded Type 9 and 256 tons of Tantalum and power generators, as well as full mining equipment. With a 14 ly laden jump range it is a slow tedious process but I'm currently about half way there in 8 hours of playing.

I wanted to, but I just got horizons 2 weeks ago and haven't a had a lot of time to grind for mods. I probs could have done it this weekend but I wanted to get out there. and it's not all that bad, made 14kly over the weekend, may have already gotten there but I have found a lot of interesting systems and a couple of unexplored Earthlikes

I'm currently flying there as part of the Jaunt to Jaques, CMDR Erimus Karmzel posted the following warning today: there are reports that player pirates are currently at Jaques station, in open play. Travelers beware!
If that's truly the case, than that's fucked up beyond words! I mean, exploration in this game is SO perilous, that there's sort of an unspoken "code". *ESPECIALLY* if you're currently outside the bubble and the other party doesn't even have weapons aboard their ship, YOU DONT FUCKING SHOOT!!!

Some people just like being pirates, some like pvp and some just like causing trouble, They have been doing that for awhile, and especially around community goals. When I'm doing something like this I always switch to a private group or solo, I;m currently 16000ly out with no weapons and cheap shields.
People like being pricks, that's the TL:DR version.

Just don't grind for winbuttons and your fine. Out of all the ships I've tried, I don't wanna leave the comfort of my eagle (unless it's my Diamondback Scout for PvP), and it's been fun as hell to fly that around the bubble. Might pop in to my asp to go to the center of the galaxy or go on a journey to the outskirts of the galaxy. Just have fun, do missions, explore, make detours to landable planets, don't be afraid to haul ass through a canyon or two.
Devote yourself to trading or hunting... it's going to get real grindy real quick. Try and keep around a few ships for whatever mood your in. Miner, Fighter, Hauler, Explorer, Stealth, Racer etc. It's a freaking blast and a half.

You know I have this ship but I'm still using my Adder It pretty much can do just about anything anyway.

Don't judge me but first-time playing elite I was stuck in unexplored space, I didn't have enough fuel to make it back, I didn't know how you used fuel-scoops and I didn't trust the fuel-rats so I did what any respectful pilot would do. I activated the self-destruct.
I did the same. Only I just switched off my life support system and slowly drifted off into the sweet, dark embrace of death.
the first time i ran out of fuel (not enough to jump) i called the fuel rats and i just waited with my shields and weapons fully online (i am pretty good at PvP)
needless to say i was overreacting and everything went smoothly
now i carry a fuel scoop at all times
I haven't played in months and I must have missed a bunch of updates.

That is not a voice pack, its the ingame traffic control voice for those automated Engineer bases. ;)

Not true that the fuelscoop and cargo scoop were the same upgrade in the original elite - the fuelscoop was an upgrade of the cargo scoop that you paid for - not really clear if it's different in ED or indeed Frontier Elite 2.

I don't play elite dangerous, and I'm wondering, is Jacques station a station that was set up by a player, or something that the devs added in?
He was added by the Devs. Originally the station would move systems regularly and was about 250LY from the inhabited systems for quite a while, then he attempted a huge jump to the far side of the galaxy. Unfortunately the jump failed and dumped him "only" 22,000 LY from Sol in a very broken state.

I can answer any questions you might have. Trust me, better to talk with an experienced player than to figure these things out on your own, since the game is mostly about finding what fits your style. Any nagging questions you need help with? Loadout advice you might need? Trying to get a specific build? Been playing since Powerplay was introduced, been an explorer and pirate hunter from the start. How can I help?
actually since you mentioned it, how can i get the best out of a python which is currently rigged for combat? ive seen people absolutely melt ships with it, mine just feels like it takes a little too long. im using a large plasma accelerator, 2 large multis with corrosive damage upgrades and 2 gimballed pulse lasers just until i have a power plant big enough to support beams. thanks.
I haven't really been "melting" people as of late, but on the large hardpoints, I have noticed that the multicannons start to drop off in tems of effectiveness after mediums. If you're doing engineer mods, get your future powerplant enhanced (I haven't quite payed attention to them, but I know they can give you more power capacity) and see if you can do a hardpoint setup with 2 large plasma accelerators, a large pulse laser, and two medium beam lasers. Beam lasers for the shields, pulse is a sustained fire weapon (as in it's always firing unless chaff is deployed), and the 2 plasma's should lay the hurt on anything you see. But you could get pretty far, too, with a pure multicannon build. Set the mediums to incendary, 2 corrosive and 1 overcharged for your large.
I haven't used the Python too much, but from what I've seen with wingmates, that would be the way to go. But in the end it's about your playstyle. I personally like the federal gunship.
So can you land on earth likes, walk around stations, walk around on planets, interact with alien creatures, travel to other galaxies, board other players ships and stuff like that or is that coming in a free update?
Most of those will be coming in updates, but not likely to be free update.
