@@Jdmimportz2 True! Also it made me happy that he said it like that because it felt like he finally accepted the fact that he isn't just "The other one." He IS Spider-Man.
My favorite thing about the “Because I’m Spider-Man” line at the end is that throughout the game when people ask Miles why he keeps fighting his response is always “Because I made a promise.” That promise is the promise he made to Peter in the beginning of the game. He will protect the city until Peter gets back and then the weight is off of his shoulders. When Ganke says “you always mean the other Spider-Man and never yourself” it is true. Miles keeps fighting because no one else is in New York to uphold the promise he made to Peter. However, throughout the game Miles develops as his own hero until he eventually calls himself Spider-Man. At this point Miles finally understands the famous phrase “With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility.” I probably stumbled my words a bit but I think I got my point across.
I think that is the arc of Miles through the game. At the beginning he's fighting to live up to a legacy but in the end he's fighting to protect his home, which is why the guy at the end says "he's OUR Spider-Man"

Seriously? I hated this scene. Phinn did nothing wrong. The game seems to think that Phinn's plan was always a bad idea, but it didn't earn that conclusion. She and Miles argue about her plan, but before that's resolved, the question changes to one that's completely unambiguous and unrelated to the original. Like, of course Phinn wouldn't blow up Harlem, and her unwillingness to hear reason is totally contrived, or else it makes Miles the bad guy for being untrustworthy. So what's she even apologizing for?
@@IXPrometheusXI it's very hypocritical for her to be angry at Miles for not revealing his identity to her when she hid the fact that she was the Tinkerer. I agree with you on everything else you said, but everything could've been resolved so much more acutely and expeditiously had she just gave Miles the time of day. Again, they both kept their secrets, so what gives HER the right to be angry with him?
Miles in this game genuinely wanted to help the people he interacted with and genuinely wanted to convince the villains he fought to be good. Amazing storytelling.
Seeing Spider-Man speak sign language is one of the most awesome things I have ever seen in my life. It's moments like these which make you realize how detached most superheroes still are from the average human being.

I wish Mile’s mom found out about his identity a little earlier so we could maybe play with the idea that she hates he’s Spider-Man cause she’s scared he’ll die like his father. Then by the end of the game, she tells him to go be spider-man, warming up to the idea. It felt like she was just pretty eh about it.
I mean, Jeff took a lot of risk just by being a police officer. Having to deal with countless thugs and several superpowered villains is a brave thing to do.
I go the other way. I'm tired of every movie, and half of the video games, having Spider-man's identity be discovered by 1-3 other characters. Its become cliche and annoying to me at this point.

Marvel's Spider-man -Aunt May ( and Miles, but Peter told him on purpose) discover Spider-man's secret identity. Spider-man Miles Marales- Ganke, Miles' mother, Mile's uncle, and Phinn all discover Spider-man's identity. I'm pretty sure that the games for many of those movies also had people finding out Spider-man's secret identity, but I'm not really going to go and check. Spider-man , in most media outside of comic books, is laughably inept at maintaining a secret identity. That is what annoys me.
Seeing Alex talk about Spider-Man with as much passion as I've always felt for Spider-Man just fills me with a sense of joy. I love Spider-Man. He's been my favorite character since I was a kid. More than Superman. More than Batman. More than any other hero. Spider-Man is the hero I can and have always felt the most connected to. To see after all these years, my favorite hero getting the good video game and story telling justice he deserves, fills my kid heart with so much joy and just reignites my passion for the character. God I love these games and I just love insomniac for giving the care and passion they put into all these games... P.S. I AM SO HYPED FOR SPIDER-MAN 2! That cutscene, like WOOO! GIMME MORE OF THAT!
Also the abundance of tricks. I know it’s also just Insomniac getting crafty with the swinging but it still works as Miles just being young and having fun with such an interesting way to traverse. Peter on the other hand has (obviously) been swinging for 8 years and besides the classic flips likely would no longer show as much flair as Miles does.
Can we talk about how the climax feels so damn similar to the train scene in Spider-Man 2. Both Peter and Miles push themselves to their breaking points, holding onto the weight of an unstoppable force and where Peter stops the train, saves the people and is then saved by the people, Miles holds onto the energy of the reactor, the responsibility of being Spider-Man and though unwillingly, unloads it onto his friend because he realises he doesn't have to do it alone. Miles then returns, like Peter, to the people, the community he saved and though they all now know his identity, they keep it a secret and only see their saviour. They only see Spider-Man. Plus, listen to the soundtrack as Miles swings away! Tell me that doesn't sound like the music they play in Spider-Man 2!
I get your sentiment but simply not giving up applies as much to a villain as a hero. Look at IW Thanos, dude was willing to kill what he loved to be the hero the universe needed in his own eyes but in the eyes of 99% of the universe that very determination is what makes him so terrifying.
I just finished the game and I whole heartedly agree. I recently made a speech in my high school language arts class about how Spider-Man might be one of if not the most important and influential characters in all of fiction, and you pretty much summed it all up nicely in this video. I think this is a game that a lot of us needed right now and who better than Spider-Man to help us through these trying times. Amazing vid, 10/10.
One of the only big problems I had with the story is that the Roxxon guy... we didn't get enough of him. He is such a fun evil character I love how well they differentiate Miles from Pete. From the opening, you know how colourful life he had and how he's surrounded by people who love him. It feels so warm, compared to Pete's cold, lonely life. He only had May, MJ and Harry when he was Spidey and even then, he was alone when being a hero. It shows how they both may have similiar moral codes and personal strength in doing what's right, they are 2 different spiderman. They both are a friendly neighbour hood spiderman, but they both have their own journey to becoming it. It's kinda like when Pete says soemthing along the lines of doing the hard work so the future youth can have their pizza adventure. Miles has to struggle to learn to become spiderman but he' so lucky he has a mentor, someone who inspires him to become more but also that hardship is par of the resume.
I love how does he talks about Spider-man. I don't share his opinion about Far From Home or Homecoming because I love those ones, but I still like his content. Keep the good work going!
It's not that he thinks those movies are bad, it's that they diverge from the source material greatly(from a character aspect), which is why he dislikes them, they're not accurate to the original character
@@Supersonicspyro which I feel like it’s good they’re not entirely accurate to 616 or even the Ultimate comics. Makes the characters very unique within the MCU the comics ofc are the source material but in that famous line from Spiderverse, “Anyone can be Spider-Man”
@@ghostchick5275 It would have certainly been a more accurate representation if it was Miles. And tbh, Aaron Davis was one of the best things about Homecoming.
I think it's an unpopular opinion: Phin really annoyed me. Especially at the end when he doesn't listened to Miles and then she made everything okay with a ,, I'm sorry". I know then she sacrificed herself but I feel it was badly done
It isn't easy to be logical when you are filled with rage and want revenge. None of Phin's actions particularly make sense. But that is the point. She is blinded by rage and a need for justice for her brother. I think this aspect was very well done.
That’s my main problem with the story. Didn’t feel anything when she sacrificed herself. I’m a little disappointed because the story in the first game was the only form of media to ever make me sob.
Not all villains need to be human. Not all villains need to be sympathetic or understandable. But a villain who is just stupid go the point where it ruins the story irritates the shit out of me.
The way he leaps off of rooftops and turns to face the camera before falling into a head first dive is just full of the exaggerated swagger of a black teen, it gives me goosebumps every time he does it
The thing you said about Heroes saving people is what I believe separates the MCU from the DC counterpart: In most DC movies we don't see the heroes actually saving people (Wonder Woman being the exception), while in Marvel Movies that's their main focus. Take notice how in each and every one of them the heroes go out of their way to save people even during tense fights, how they try their best not to drag innocents in their battles. That's what a hero is supposed to be: Not someone who beats criminals, not someone who hates injustice, but men and women who try to help others. One of the greatest Batman moments of all time wasn't him beating a villain, but him comforting Ace, a little girl who was about to die, staying with her until the end so she doesn't have to be alone. The sheer power of seeing him carrying her body afterwards broke me as a child, because up to that point Batman was just a cool guy who fights bad guys, but afterwards he was something greater to little old me, he was the Batman. And that's why I despise people like Snyder for not getting Bruce, for not understanding such an amazing and enduring character, for changing him in such a way that he turns into a mockery of his real self. These moments, of pure heroism, where the characters do simple acts of kindness are the most powerful. That's why we weep when we discover Peter visited a young boy who would soon die from cancer, when Superman sits down with a suicidal girl and talks with her and when Wolverine acts like a father to his younger X-Men, these are the moments I live for when reading comics.
Fantastic comment. This is why Man of Steel pissed me off. Watching Superman, of all people, punching the villain through buildings like a stupid idiot with no regards for the lives of civilians was one hell of a nightmare. He even had time to kiss Lois while people are either emerging from the rubble or crushed by it.
Yeah it’s amazing a character that debuted only 9 years ago has such a great following and cultural resonance. Some Marvel characters take decades to become popular.
@@leandrobesevic4424 uhhh he is a good character. He is more popular than any of the other Spider-people to take up the mantle besides the original Peter Parker. I’d argue miles has surpassed Miguel O’Hara, Ben Reilly, etc. in so many ways
@@wesstewart2677 just because a character is more popular doesn't make it good (for example Jon Snow has a much bigger fan base, but he's not as complex and interestng like Jaime Lannister or Sandor Cleagane). Miles always has benn the black Peter, in the comics is still too similar to Peter; Miguel and Kaine are more interesting, they have a different thought and they act in a different way. But hey....... Miles Morales is black, so he has to be a perfect character (with a shitty personality, a toxic fan base, and with powers that make him an orrible Gary Sue)
@@leandrobesevic4424 except Miles isn’t really shown as being perfect. In the comics he makes plenty mistakes, in the film he makes a lot of mistakes, and in the Insomniac game the whole storyline involves him making mistakes and learning he has to fix it on his own. So no miles morales isn’t a “perfect” black character. He makes mistakes and learns from them. Also you can say all the other Spider-Men are more complex but they still haven’t had as significant cultural impact. Last Halloween I saw plenty kids dressed as Miles Morales...when’s the last time someone dressed as Ben Reilly or Kaine Parker for Halloween. Oh wait...never
Alex, the way you look at film and art in general, I feel like most content creators don't get into. What I mean is that, you look at art how it's meant to be looked at. This game isn't supposed to tell an extravagant story that we've never heard or seen before, it's supposed to improve on the prior's experience and still feel just as grounded. So thank you Alex, for truly looking at art how it's meant to be looked at. Literally, every video you post, every take you make I agree or agree to the most part. I dunno, I guess many people feel this way when they watch, but I truly you should have more support than you actually do. I truly appreciate the amount of effort you put in these videos. On top of that, you shoot short films, which is just mind-boggling. Not only do you do that you also try to watch as many movies as you can to try to be as grounded as possible on your takes. Cause as we know art is subjective, not everyone has to agree with you POV. But somehow I agree with everything you post or for the most part, so Alex please continue grinding and hopefully one day you might achieve your dreams of becoming a director.
I love how all their lives Miles and Phin have had this friendly rivalry on who outshines the other and even now after they reunite they still fight over their goals.
lmao, on WHAT point? Phinn learns nothing and doesn't change in that scene. What are you saying? That it was sad to be reminded of her brother's untimely death? I guess, but I'm finding it hard to make any meaning out of it. Something about learning the value of self-sacrifice, maybe? But that's not a character flaw for Phinn, so... why is this scene here?
From one Alex to another, you’re absolutely killing it bro! You’re literally making the videos I’ve always wanted to. Know that whenever this starts feeling tiring, that your work, just like Spidey, resonates with people and makes them feel seen. You’re a great storyteller bud. Keep putting on the mask and moving forward, because you’re going far! Much love!
One of my only gripes with the game is that I feel as if instead of miles answering fin’s question of why he keeps doing this and his answer is because he’s Spider-Man, he should’ve said because I’m just a guy who won’t give up
He could say that in the future. That game was just like ITSV. It was about him BECOMING Spider-Man. So when he’s an established Spider-Man in the future and he says I’m just a guy who does give up. It will be all the more special because of the time that he spent with that mindset.
They wanted to get the face to match with the irl voice actor for spiderman, plus they also wanted to make it more realistic to "show off" the power of the ps5.

Insomniac has done it again folks! This game is a narrative spectacular, with next-generation videogame features that allow you to truly live your life not just as Spiderman but as Miles Morales, arguably one the greatest Spidermen out of the infinite Spider-verse verse of Spidey's. I love Miles so much because I truly connect with his character and his passion for aiding his community, and what it must feel like to live up to your own name, as well as living in the shadow of a legend. I know that may seem preachy/cringy and you may not believe me but as an African, 18-year-old who was born from two heritages, I genuinely feel like there's a part of me that admires and feels like Miles sometimes ( and you may not believe me or judge me for what I've said, and that's fine, your rightfully entitled to say your own opinion about me). Spider-verse is one of my favourite superhero films of all time and love that people are acknowledging Miles as a true Spiderman in both the film and this game as well. Insomniac truly knows what it means to write Spiderman as much as Rocksteady and Telltale know how to write Batman, and they have a deeper understanding of the character and all Spider-man than even the film could perceive. Overall I love this game, I love the previous game, and I love Miles Morales. My favourite Spiderman quote about Miles is when Peter said to Miles: Peter: "Don't do it like me, Miles... Do it like you!"
This game was amazing. You get to see how being Spiderman affects a different person altogether. Peter Parker is already used to the routine of being Spiderman and we get to see Miles learn that being Spiderman isn't a 100% happy life. For a kid to mentally grow up and accept the dark parts of reality is amazing to see.
@@mynameisdom8611 I have been telling myself the same exact shit. I caved today. He doesn't heavily get into all the spoilers, and there's honestly not much. I say go for it. I'm surprised to you didn't mention that at the end they give Miles his own version of the train scene in Spider-Man 2 where Peter has lost his mask but the people on the train promise not to tell anyone and try to protect him. For me that moment at the end of the game was just as emotionally impactful as that scene from Spider-Man 2. Can we talk about the scene at the very end when Miles stops the reactor and the Harlem community sees his face. But they come together to bring him back his mask, and even shield him from the reporters that come and ask them if they know who Spider-Man is? She and Miles argue about her plan, but before that's resolved, the question changes to one that's completely unambiguous and unrelated to the original. Like, of course Phinn wouldn't blow up Harlem, and her unwillingness to hear reason is totally contrived, or else it makes Miles the bad guy for being untrustworthy. So what's she even apologizing for?
@@IXPrometheusXI why I didn't think about this?
@@IXPrometheusXI it's very hypocritical for her to be angry at Miles for not revealing his identity to her when she hid the fact that she was the Tinkerer. I agree with you on everything else you said, but everything could've been resolved so much more acutely and expeditiously had she just gave Miles the time of day. Again, they both kept their secrets, so what gives HER the right to be angry with him?

This is the reason why Daredevil said about Spiderman: "He is the best of us..."

One of the only big problems I had with the story is that the Roxxon guy... we didn't get enough of him. He is such a fun evil character
I love how well they differentiate Miles from Pete.
It's kinda like when Pete says soemthing along the lines of doing the hard work so the future youth can have their pizza adventure. i agree, i get people being stubborn but she was TOO stubborn if that makes sense
I'm not so sure if that's unpopular. Cause I feel like they have more sympathy for Norman than they have for Phin.
Not all villains need to be human. Not all villains need to be sympathetic or understandable. But a villain who is just stupid go the point where it ruins the story irritates the shit out of me.

My favourite Spiderman quote about Miles is when Peter said to Miles:
Peter: "Don't do it like me, Miles...

Hey, man. I don’t know if you’ll ever read this, but it’s definitely been a hard year. Just know you’re not alone. It’s like when Miles was narrating at the end of Spider-Verse... “and when I feel alone, like no one understands what I’m going through, I remember my friends who get it.” This world will heal, Alex. Everyone. As long as we stick together and be heroes in our own lives.
You’re video essays are so creative. I wish I could express my love for the character the way you do
Alex your videos and takes are literally therapy to me.
"It's not about how hard you can hit, it's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward"
‐ Rocky Balboa
I cried in the final scene of this game. I relate to miles more than Peter but everything you said about this game was spot on. I have been telling my friends this is one of the best spiderman stories ever. I was infatuated with it & everything it brought. The subtle plot lines spoke to me & you had to really watch this as an interactive movie as opposed to a video game. Can't believe Insomniac has this pulse on spiderman & is creating good stories with the character. I look forward to the game when we get to switch between Miles & Peter ala GTA 5 vibes
8:42 Wait hold on is that a reference to my recreation thumbnail lmfao.
Is that a reference to my life
I’ll still never forgive insomniac for changing Peter’s face.
Just had a panic attack and then came and saw this video. You made me feel good. Thank you for validating my reliance of Spider-Man to be my hope in hard times.
My favorite moment of ps4 spiderman is when Peter was about to jump away and turns back to teach miles to fight.
Yes that was a great moment, you really feel the connection between Peter and Miles.
Always my fave movie critic, so witty and know the field when it comes to film or video games, you inspired me to be movie analytic. Keep it up we here to support you mate.
Thank you! ❤️
@@HiTopFilms it's a pleasure and always welcome. Godspeed.
Today I was stuck as home unable to move because of my anxiety and depression and the only thing keeping me going or at least getting me up, was hero's like spiderman for hope. But after watching this, you really gave me the inspiration I need to keep moving forward and really tell me why I should do it at all. You really helped me today and you really are a hero. Thank you
Never give up bro!!!!
Hope you get better and never give up
You've made me feel so much more connected to Spider-Man both Peter and Miles and for that I am truly grateful
Can't wait for the sequel 🔥.
Can we talk about the scene at the very end when Miles stops the reactor and the Harlem community sees his face. But they come together to bring him back his mask, and even shield him from the reporters that come and ask them if they know who Spider-Man is? It’s so reflective of that scene in Spider-Man 2, when Peter stops the train and everyone comes together as a community to save him and keep his secret. This character has always been amazing not just because of his relatability and his powers, but because of his heart. I love seeing the community save Spider-Man just as he saves them, shows how much power all of us can have as a community
If there's a multiverse this kid is Spider-Man in one of em. Keep up the great work
