Nice setup! I can't to wait watch your ride. I'm doing it next year. I wear a backpack. Screw the bougie bunch. I also wear hiking pants and a button down shirt. My rear pack is another backpack strapped to my seat post and a rack. It's my go to choice. Have ridden several thousand miles that way and it works great! Riding a bike should be fun and functional not how pretty you look. Money saved on bags is more miles on trail. Can't wait for the next video.
Looks like a good setup. Feel that tired spending money feeling. Trying to make my 520 and all around ride. Can't wait to see your video on what your bringing along. Wishing you luck. Take care, Al
Real sick, Chester Raceface, I’ve got them on my 2020 Trek 920. Got the rebuild kit as well & at 15,200 miles haven’t had to rebuild & don’t expect to anytime soon.
The ride sounds like it's going to be awesome. You could get yourself a Bob trailer and pull along two or three cases of beer packed in dry ice you would forget all about the extra weight you pulled along all day at camp in the evening. If it got to heavy just stop have a bender and a zero day or two and jettison the trailer. Colorado has stuff that's way better than menthol just saying not pushing it.
I'm thinking about swapping out my carbon forks for Krampus forks so I can fit a rack , would you know roughly what the weight difference is ? I thought it might be about 1.5 lbs ?
I was lucky and didn't hit much mud, and definitely no peanut butter death mud. But the mud i did hit wasn't all the bad, I really didn't get much build up on the frame or wheel blockages, i definetly hit mud though. I chose the Rekons because they had a similar tread pattern at a low pile.....I was running out of time and had to get the bike suited up. If I was to ride again I would not ride the Rekons, but they did a great job and are a great tire. They wore a little quick for my taste.
@@TravelingThru222 cool are you still on your tour? I ended up buying mezcals 2.1 front and rear since they are so common for this tour. The company I bought my bike frame from said that size would be best for muddy conditions. I think the reckons would be a bit too wide.
Thanks for the tour. Please tell me, why does your bike (and other mountain bikes I have seen) only have one chain ring? Your bike should have a christening, some kind of blessing, ceremony, ritual. Breaking a bottle of champagne sounds extreme, but a splash of holy water, smudging, some auspicious words, just something to keep the good spirits happy to ride with you.
One chainring is a bit easier to deal with, you don’t need to remember where your at in the shifting. A bit lighter. Generally for mountain biking your really not pedaling downhill, you’re just kind of riding the trail down, and only need east gears to get back up.
Wow, 30 pounds empty... better you than me, my friend! I carry a small looped tiedown strap that I route through that toptube gusset for hike-a-bike (1 hand on the bars and I through the strap). I'm having a custom steel hardtail built for bikepacking that will be around 25 pounds. I suck at climbing so I wanted light weight. Be safe! Really looking forward to your updates! Thanks!!!
Oh yeah, Surly isn’t known for lightweight. It’s actually 28 lbs, 14 oz. Lighter than the trek 520. The Krampus is a tractor, hates coming off the ground. I actually brought a strap along with me, for just that scenario. See you on the road.
Yes, leave the most negative comment you can think of. Indian reservations still require masks in stores for resupply. but you researched the route, you knew that before you commented, because you’re smart. Don’t watch my channel anymore.

Thanks Al. Videos coming up.
Nice setup! I've always enjoyed your videos and adventures. Looking forward to following your Divide adventure!
Thanks for having my back. Lots more to come.
I really like your Intrepid spirit on the Divide. Awesome videos
Thanks so much!
Most excellent dynamic set up can't wait to see the trip . .going to be epic
Thanks you two. See you on the trail.
Kick ass ride brother! I ride a straggler and love it.
Can't wait for the videos from the trail. Stay safe on the trail fella!
Thanks buddy
Wow great set-up bikepacking, enjoy your tour...take care
Thanks, will do!
DA KRAMPUS IS A BEAST!!!!!...... my favorite!
Super fun to ride, top speed so far 39.9 mph.
Real sick, Chester Raceface, I’ve got them on my 2020 Trek 920. Got the rebuild kit as well & at 15,200 miles haven’t had to rebuild & don’t expect to anytime soon.
Awesome, you have some serious miles on that thing. See you on the road.
Good luck bro. Can’t wait to see more
Oh shizz! Sup baby brother? Kicking it in Kalispell tonight. 70 miles off the border. Long way to Mexico.
Sweet rig. Looking forward to watching the show!
Thanks for watching.
Its going to be an amazing ride. Proper adventure, good luck! What about some kind of bar ends for another hand position.
Initially I was going to get some different grips, but as time rolled on, I figured I would just go with it as is. Lots of bike shops along the way.
Thanks for the idea with the bell. Im going to ride the slovenian west loop and it should be full of bears there...
The Bell is pretty awesome, I want the bears to hear me long before Im there.
What rig! Had a chance to pick up a used one but regrettably didn't snag it. Anyway, thanks for the post👍
Sick bro, can't wait for the gdmbr vids. Be safe out there!
Thanks bro, lots of vids to come. We need to get together when I make it back to Canon.
@@TravelingThru222 absolutely, or when you're coming through Salida lemme know
@@AdventuresWithDaniel For sure, man.
Send it TT!! Looking forward, be safe…
Thanks, Bro.

This is going to be a great trip…… crap, I forgot dry ice.
Thank you for the content, it's very helpful!
Sweet! Nice setup Dude! Cheers!
Thanks for the visit
Wow. An adventure.
Nice setup man. Your going to have a great time. Can’t wait for the video buddy. Be Safe Have Fun🚵🏕💚✌️
Thanks 👍. See you in Colorado soon.
Great video! What made you go with the roam over the bolt? Love your attitude on tackling the trail
Cool thanks. I went with the Roam,
Because so did Lael Wilcox.
Loving your rig..... Awesome 👍🏼
Awesome thank you!
I'm thinking about swapping out my carbon forks for Krampus forks so I can fit a rack , would you know roughly what the weight difference is ? I thought it might be about 1.5 lbs ?
1.5 sounds about right. The original Krampus fork that came with the bike didn’t have holes for a rack, choose wisely my friend.
Wishing you all the best, bro....
Thanks, my man. See you in route.
Sweet rig. Nice!
Hope all goes well on the ride, looking forward to the updates
Thanks for watching.
Would love to know the logistics on getting you and the bike to the north border.
Just starting driving up yesterday. Leaving my truck in an RV storage for a couple months. Then it’s all Surly from there.
Hi so the reckons are similar to fleecer? The rolling resistance and grip is similar? How’s the mud clearance and how did you do?
I was lucky and didn't hit much mud, and definitely no peanut butter death mud. Hi! Can you send a link / tell me the name off the specific Framebag for the Surly Krampus? The one you didn’t want to purchase:) tnx
Revelate designs
Great! I can see they come in different sizes. Do you know the biggest litre capacity for Surly?
6:27 that pot doubles as a nice bear bell ;)
No doubt, can’t ask for more noise in grizzly country. Thanks for watching.
@@TravelingThru222 yep! Just finished Banff to Whitefish a week ago. Good luck!
Very rare but there was a grizzly sighting in Silverton Colorado this summer.
Ill keep an eye out, thanks.
go with 2.4 or 2.6 tires
You are just tooo Cool! You are a champ!!
Thanks
Sick bike 🎉

@@TravelingThru222 Thanks for the answer. I've never done any mountain biking, and didn't know about the ride down/get back up dynamic.
do Canada still require vac madness to entry country
Yes, all travelers entering need to be fully vaccinated.
@@TravelingThru222 crazy i was planing great trail but i think i spend my money else where
I’m psyched! You psyched?
So pumped, big guy!
Enjoy the journey. Best of Luck!! ✌🏼🙏🏼 #everyrideisepic
Thanks
“Everybody’s doing it!” Haha
Glad you liked that. Thanks for watching.
Agressive profile.
Different style, same experience?
This is going to be a while different kind of trip. I think I’ll be watching the map a lot more often than on the road. Should be good.

Nothing like putting someone down about their weight so you can brag about how light your rig is.

I think putting bells on your bike to call bears is stoopid
Brings em right in out of the woods. I’m more of a close encounter kinda guy.
be honest - the pot is so people can hear you rattling coming down the trail :)
The pot is definitely a noise maker> I'll take all the help I can get in Grizzly country.
