Welcome to Traveling Thru. I have been traveling by any means possible for the last 20 years. Camping In A Cave During Freezing Conditions.
Welcome back everyone, In this video you will find me camping in a cave in The Pinchot State Forest of Pennsylvania. I Bikepacked into the forest on My 2020 Specialized Epic Hardtail to the cave I have visited quite a bit over the years. I have camped here a handful of times at all stages of the seasons and always great to make it back to this section of the forest. I did not bring a tent with me on this adventure but I did manage to bring my Mountain Hardware Ghost Whisperer Pants and my western Mountaineering Hot Sack, Plus a 15 degree Marmot Sleeping Bag.
I cooked dinner with my MSR Pocket Rocket accompanied with my Toaks Titanium Pot. I sure was toasty huddled by the fire all night, and somehow actually got great sleep. If you would like to see more videos like this let me know in the comment section. Thanks for Watching everyone and see you on the road.

Love to ride this in autumn - but not in the rain.
Warm me up a few rattlesnakes
Nice! That looks like a great time right there bro! Love hearing those tires howl on the descents
I like your attitude. No whining.
Thanks for watching, I love the beating.
Beautiful!
Thanks.
That is really camping
That was an interesting one.
Yep. Camp there about a week. Life would be good
I think you're right. Thats one of my favorite secret spots.
I lived in Wayne County (Honesdale) for many years when I got out of the Marine Corps. God’s country for sure in upper Delaware River. Thanks for sharing brother. Did lots of biking, swimming, running up there, amazingly beautiful country.
The swimming pool at 5:25, in Drexel is where I would swim when I was 8. Good times. I want to ride the Flint Trail myself. Thanks for the video.
Thanks for watching. Drexel was an interesting area that close to the state border. Hope you make your way to flint hills trail, such a nice ride. Beautiful section of Kansas.
@TravelingThru222 I'm enjoying a few of your videos... jealousy is setting in! Lol.
Great to see you out in the cold. The few, the brave. Thanks for sharing the equipment too. I'm sure it transfers to Harley riding. Keep it up!
Thanks for watching.
How did you assemble that bike? Bought only the frameset and added solely the rest? Also curious to understand how did you pick up the elements. Congrats! Awesome bike
I bought the Epic on Craigslist as a stick complete bike. I then took it to my local bike shop with a list of components I wanted on the bike, and 3 months later I had a finished product. A bit costly.
who is the guy that traverse the whole Wayne County on Bear back ?
@@TBgunsandbutter I have no idea, let me know if you find out. Ask them down at sawmill cycles.
What’s a sweet camping spot. Cool channel. Enjoyed watching! 😎 🏕️ 🚲 SUBBED!
@@girlfinfishing awesome thanks for checking me out, likewise.
I always enjoy your overnight trips. I think you could sleep on a picket fence and be perfectly happy. Nice episode!
@@gerardnatale2387 haha, thanks for watching. I sleep best out in the forest, and usually with no sleeping pad.
You have a pure soul. Inspiring.
@@tmb8659 thanks for watching.
Wait, no sleeping pad!? You wild man! Yes... we want more camping in strange places.
Yes, no sleeping pad most of the time. Camping directly on snow, I would suggest a sleeping pad.
You are tougher than me. Stay safe
That was a wild one, thanks for watching.
Nice spot. It looks cozy with the fire.
It sure was, that's the only way to stay warm when it's that cold!
Love it
Love it.
Nice adventure, yeah buddy! Glad ya didn't freeze to death
It was a close one! Glad you enjoyed it.
"i hope they don't come back and beat me over a head with a pipe" every time i stealth camp somewhere iffy I always remember the scene from the movie "easy riders" lol
Haha, I was not really worried about it. There are always “quad” people out there doing their thing. Everybody is cool.
😮🪟😮🪟😮🪟😮🪟😮🪟😮🪟😮🪟😮🪟 NO WINDOWS 🪟🪟
Nope.
Excellent video. Awesome camp spot.
Glad you enjoyed it
Greetings and Happy New Year from Milford. Brr man its been cold and windy this past week! I might have to give it a go in the midori solo 🤔
Happy new year! Be safe out there.
Happy New Year brother!
Happy New Year, more to come soon!
Hard core!
Hey, thanks for watching.
Nice man! Pretty rad camping spot. Just got back from some winter camping, had cabin fever already.
It's always good to get out of the house and go camping. Thanks for watching.
Great to see another video. Thanks.
Glad you liked it, more coming soon.
That’s a cool camping spot. I might have to try cowboy camping when it gets warmer out. It would be a different experience than what I’m used to.
It is definitely a different experience!
What an awesome camp site. Looks like you had a great time. What do you do for work that you can afford to travel all the time?
The cave is always a great stop. I’m a bit of a tradesman.
Very cool video! Maybe the hot and cold air between the hot sack and sleeping bag caused the condensation? Could also just be lack of breathability between the two. Glad you stayed safe and warm. Good experience for sure
Thanks for the tips, see you on the road.
I'm curious, were you breathing into the bag all night to cause that much condensation? Great video Thanks
I don't think so, and I try to avoid that. I found the same thing happened to me out on The Tour Divide. I think its just single walled sleeping set ups. Not sure, but I was a bit shocked at how much had condensated.
Life has really hit me hard recently and I’ve lost a lot of motivation to ride my bike, not only to my issues but because of the cold winter weather. This post cheered me up a lot thanks
Glad this could give you a little boost! The biking thing is where i get a lot of thinking done, I go there to relax. Sometimes I find going for a ride on the days I really don't feel like going for a ride, can turn things around, Or riding because I felt so strongly against going for a ride, just to switch things up.
Great experience, thanks for sharing! Happy 2025 to you!
Happy new year! More coming soon.
Yeah. I would be looking for a better sleep system. Multiple days of that condensation could end you up in trouble. Spooky looking place for sure. Thanks for the video and take care, Al
I feel like anything single walled will throw condensation, the search continues for this perfect sleeping system. Love that cave. Thanks for watching.
Damn! That condensation could’ve killed you man. I didn’t see that coming. I assume you’re sleeping bag isn’t down?
Yeah, loads of condensation, dealt with that heavily on the divide. Yes, that is a down Marmot 15 degree.
@@TravelingThru222oh, it IS down? And you didn’t freeze? Good bag!
@@TheRickurb Very warm all night, had no idea that moisture was building up..
🍿
Oh yes.
@@TravelingThru222 ha! ‘Taint many thangs in this ol‘ world more satisfyin thin settin inside all toasty warmed, warchin some dang fool freezin his gizzards off on an icy mountain.
Nice Video. Did you sleep in the trail? Do you have tips where to sleep along the trail. We are planing to do Jim Thorpe to NJ
There is plenty of wooded areas out there, where you could sneak in a tent. I camped in The park just south of New Hope, Nobody bothered me but im not so sure thats aloud. I also have camped on The Delaware and rarity Trail In jersey, just at random picnic table spots.
Having two or more sleeping bags inside each other, and a mask to keep your face warm while you breath the cold air, is definitely the way to go, in my experience, when camping in freezing temperatures. Hope this helps.
Nice, not a bad idea. I’ll keep that in mind. Video of that camping trip comes out tonight at 6:00pm. Thanks.
When are they going to make a minion building like from the spiccable me
I have 3 cats
I'll be picking up my bus tomorrow but man I love you as a person😂 you seem like such a chill dude. Love how your bus looks as well. Really hope mine is battery wise are in the same spot. I'm buying directly from a school. Well a private school so and it is very low mileage. Hopefully tomorrow when I go finalize everything still looks the same like when I looked at it the first time. I should have taken some more time though and looked at those things. Where things were located.
Awesome, I hope the bus works out for you. It’s always a super exciting purchase, hoping you and the new bus go far in your travels. If you make it to northeast PA look me up and let’s go for a cruise. If you need any pointers let me know. See you on the road.
I LIKE THE QUIET OF THE CAVE LOL
I hear ya.
BEAUTIFUL CAMPSITE, BUT NO BEARS I HOPE......
Didn’t see any bears, I heard something barking in the middle of the night tho.
👍
Thanks for watching.
Dude. This is sweet!
That was an interesting chilly evening out.
That's a cold day, but looked like you had a good time riding around the city.
It’s always a good time riding in nyc, thanks for checking me out.
Nice setup
Chilly.
You're one tough, fearless, son-of-a-gun.
Haha, I just love being out there.
Hunker down! Stay warm
That was a tricky one, video coming soon.
