    My favourite place out of these 9 if I had to choose was Uoriki Kaisen Sushi. Which place do you want to try on your next trip to Tokyo? If you enjoyed this vid, drop a sub at goaw.pl/AwesomeTube!

    While only a few of these places interest me personally (I dont drink and Im personally not a huge fan of most seafood sadly) I actually really like the fact that, while you do recommend these places you are honest about any short comings you find with them. When people just gush about how perfect a place is it makes me wonder how honest they are being or maybe there are other factors making them biased with out realizing it. Good video and Ill keep these places in mind on my trip.

    as a japanese native, I have a couple of suggestions: 1. sushi must be eaten whole, not to be bitten off in half, that is considered quite rude. 2. dip just a little bit of the fish side of nigiri into soy sauce, turn it upside down and put it into your mouth with fish side on your tongue, not rice. also, most high end sushi places paints soy sauce on top so no need for soy sauce, and they serve some nigiri with salt, so it's ready to eat. 3. i'd be careful about talking and filming in some smaller places, that is usually pretty frowned upon, and you really shouldn't be filming and uploading other people on you tube unless you've gotten their permission which I doubt. most japanese food bloggers mosaic out other patrons in restaurants or servers unless they have permission, and make sure to ASK if they can film or even take pics/videos before you start, some places have a policy against it.

      Hmm... What about many Japanese TH-camrs dip rice side and put the rice side into their mouths? I saw many in TH-cam included Japanese TV show especially food TV programmes. When I visit Japan, I saw Japanese put the rice side on the tongue either.

    A big thanks for the tips on 1 and 6 which I went to on my trip to Tokyo. The sushi place in Shibuya was a bit of a bugger to find, as it’s at the back of a big bottom floor shopping section where they sold bento and other sushi, but it was melt in the mouth sushi and such great and friendly service. It was actually my favourite sushi stop of the tour. And the Tsukemen from Rokurinsha; well I am still thinking about it now and when I visit Tokyo again will make another stop there.

    For tempura the traditional ways to eat it (and what it says on the sign...) are to mix the grated radish into the tempura sauce and dip it. Hi, great production quality and the video is simple and easy to watch. Unfortunately from a personal standpoint I don't feel convinced that any of these places are in a "must eat" category from your video alone and it likely stems primarily from what seems like a lack of research or familiarity of the foods you are eating and comparisons to other places and options and pricing etc... I do however thank you for your effort in the video and hope your next video is even better!

    Tsukemen ramen does have intense and rich flavors because it is made for just dipping the noodles in the broth to give it flavor. Just FYI if you dont already know ✌

    • @GoingAwesomePlaces
      @GoingAwesomePlaces  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great question! No we don't speak Japanese so we basically made it through by pointing. Many restaurants actually have English menus which makes it very easy. Overall, I'd say no need to stress about the ordering part. I think the only part where we really struggled was when we went really off the path to a local restaurant where there was no English menu or wait staff so we had a fun time just pointing to what others were eating and ordering the same thing. I hope that helps!

    • @GoingAwesomePlaces
      @GoingAwesomePlaces  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Fernanda! Okay so about the trains, yes the map when you first look at it is CRAZY complicated right. What makes it really confusing is how different companies own different lines and so unless you know the system really well, it's really hard to say whether you're only going to be sticking to the Tokyo Metro/Toei vs JR vs other. The easiest thing to combat that is to just get one of those IC cards like PASMO or SUICA. Load it up with money and just tap away. That way you don't have to worry about day passes or buying tickets to just one company. Hope that helps!

    i must agree with evl619 it looks like you picked a hand full of places and you didn't go to any other to compare them with ! for example for me the turning point was piss alley (not the sushi thing) ! its a horrible tourist trap and on the bucket list for most first time visitors including me but i would not go there again ( since there is better food just east from there )! the video was good but the title make you sound like you been there multiple times and been to hundreds of places but its just click bait for more views ! maybe next time just call it "9 interesting/nice restaurants in tokyo"...

    • @GoingAwesomePlaces

      My second time to Tokyo and I have no regrets about all the places I went to. Yes Piss Alley was a bit meh but I think the joy of travel is seeing the contrasts and going from there to Yakitori Ton Ton was truly eye opening. Still stand by all the choices I made and yes I haven't been able to try all the tens of thousands of restaurants on Tokyo, I used my best judgement and research to pick some good ones. The hope is that you guys as viewers can make your own judgement and hopefully help plan your trip.

      From the 4 or so many times I went to piss alley, I noted that locals by far outnumbered tourists. And tourists mainly took pictures. I don’t think many non Asian tourists are into organ meats. Every time I visited I was taken by a local. I mainly drank while they ate. I’m not into organ meat. Great post, man! Never mind the haters.

      I disagree. I love going back to Omoide Yokocho (why does everybody incorrectly call it Piss Alley? That is one street over) everytime I visit Tokyo. Yes it's popular with tourists (me included) but it's also popular with locals and deals in the sort of food available in the depression after World War II. Not a high class area, but very authentic.

    Thanks for making this list. It’s kinda of mediocre. The place you went to for ramen is known for their tsukemen.
    Tsukemen will usually have a fishy taste to it because of the broth being made from bonito flakes.
    Also, please stop saying sushi is fresh. That’s inaccurate. Most if not all reputable sushi restaurants will not be serving you fresh fish. They usually have the fish for a few days. That’s the flavor you’re tasting. If the fish was in fact actually fresh then you wouldn’t taste much of anything which is why most if not all reputable sushi places will age their fish a few days to create the flavor profile you are tasting.

    • @GoingAwesomePlaces
      @GoingAwesomePlaces  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey James! I had no idea about sushi - when I say "super fresh" it's a perspective in comparison to what I get back home which is in Toronto. You can definitely taste the difference - while sure it's not going to be straight from the market, it's definitely a huge difference from frozen fish that gets shipped over or is of a poorer grade.
      We tried the tsukumen but definitely was more of an acquired taste and/or we didn't know how to eat it.

      I was inspired by Migrationlogy as he had a ton of great spots picked out. So the funny thing is that unless you're at a hotel or you're staying at a traditional Ryokan, I found breakfast to be not really a thing. Most restaurants open up at 11 and so often times we just skipped breakfast and went straight for lunch food. If you're at the airport or train station, there'll be things to buy and perhaps ramen shops might be open in those high traffic areas??
