UPDATE! => I will review some other features like noise cancellation and quality of phone calls in a future video! -- *Honesty is the best policy* - That's what my mummy taught me. Though I love Yamaha, I had to be brutally honest with these first impressions of this noise cancelling pair of headphones. If you value honesty and transparency in reviews, LIKE the video and SMASH subscribe!
It has a wide sound stage and one of the best sounding wireless headphones. It is bass heavy. To overcome, update the firmware and switch off the optimization using the App. It will sound better than Sony 1000XM4. I use Final Sonorous VI as my wired audiophile headphones. It is nowhere near that . Yet a great pair of wireless headphones. Its build and appearance reminds NAD VISO HP70.
gonna buy them anyway. there is special offer on them for just 195EUR which is amazing. hopefully they should fix the issues you mention with firmware updates. cheers, mate, great review
Ok cool! Just to let you know there is another review coming out in the next week or so. I am doing a mass comparison between the Yamaha, Sony 1000XM4, Sennheiser Momentum, Bose 700 & Beats Studio 3. I think the price you have is darn good tbh! Hopefully a firmware update sorts them out yeah! Up to you if you want to wait for the review to come out first though :D
@@geezerintotech you know what? I did buy and return both Sony and Sennheiser, while Bose is not worth my time. I found one comment somewhere, on reddit I guess, when a pal wrote M3 are very much alike Yamaha, but bass of Yamaha is just better and naturally sounding. I also found out online that if you turn off listening optimizer or whatever that is called, boils the bass down. we will see, we will see, I do not mind playing aroung with EQ.
@@herrkeks8509 hmm. Okay for 195EUR, but after few days of testing till sold them away. If I had not tested so much headphones, I would keep them probably. They are pretty great soundwise after some EQ, but cheap plastic and low ergonomics.. put me away. Ultimately, I bought two pairs of Mobvoi Tickasa ANC for 40$ per pair on sales and they are so damn good that it is frustrating. ANC is buggy, only works in some situations, but soundwise? Wow. With ANC off, for so little money, so good clarity, spacing, dynamics, bass, everything, aptxHD. Personally, I find Momentum M3 the sexiest so far, but they are not good enough for the price paid. Sennheiser is mocking its clients with using outdated BT chips, leaving room for improvement and not making them too good for current market.. so in the end I am just waiting for Momentum M4, which I hope to be carrying proper DAC, while being super happy with Mobvoi. Cheers
Hello. I actually never tried the headphones using the app etc. I just did this test to show how they'd sound in their stock setup. Of course with the app etc you'd be able to EQ as you like - so I'm sure that bass can get turned down. But that's a bit of an issue for me because I prefer not to EQ headphones if I can as it can interfere with the sound quality. Others have mentioned about being able to turn off listening optimisation and how this can improve the sound. It's a bit weird though because that's a unique feature of these headphones and to turn it off is a bit of anticlimactic if you know what I mean 😂
@@geezerintotech Thanks heaps for the reply and yeah I guess you are sort of buying it for those features. I'm sort of a vanilla guy myself, and I was thinking about getting this set, so its a bit disappointing. Glad I saw your vid before going any further!
@@IsCarryingACuriousMap Hi mate sorry it's taken me a while to get back to this message! Have had to step away from TH-cam on and off these past few weeks! Thanks for the feedback and I'm glad you didn't make a purchasing error! Buyer's remorse sucks lol. What headphones are you now considering then? I don't know if you saw but a few weeks back I did a grand headphones test with about 6 ANC headphones compared all in one test. Just ordered b&o h95 and now discovering this, damn. Are they worth it, you said they are better then Sony and Sennheiser. Still can cancel the delivery of h95s..

Heya, do you think the listening optimizer feature caused the bass to be heavier? Wondering if tried with off - if you can turn off?

@@geezerintotech Believie or not but a sound inside headphones is all digital. Heavy DSP, so no worries aboy Eq-ing
I love your review. No fireworks, but instead ALL I was looking for. Great job!
Thanks for watching!
Hi, would like to ask if the sound quality drops if you turn the headphone off but using wired instead.
hi it's been so long since i reviewed these (and i didn't keep them), so i honestly don't know.
Hopefully someone else here can help you buddy.

Yes, the quality noticeably drops if there is no power.
Did you find the headband kind of slips off easily?
The ANC isn't the strength of this pair of cans. But the sound and loudness! When using a 3rd party cable wired into an amp, this thing shines!
fair enough! Can't say I've tested it via a headphone amp. I do have a Topping A50s, but in all truth I'd be using a set of headphones through that!
@@geezerintotech give it a try with the supplied cable. You'll be pleasantly surprised
@@Necron990 I will mate :D
How do you EQ them?
i think there is an app where you can EQ the yamahas
Cool! Have you had a chance to try the new YH- L700a flagship model?
Not yet. I think that was only unveiled a couple of days ago wasn't it?
@@geezerintotech Now that it's been six months, would be good to do a review on the L700A...
Try B&W PX 8 they are sublime
I returned my because the soundstag drown the vocal of the singers but if you like wide soundstage then this is one of the best wireless cans.
yeah I totally get what you mean - it's like the sound gets spready thin. Oh well..I expect some people will like this pair of headphones!
@@geezerintotech The cans I have sound fine after I using eq app, but it just keep making cracking noise so I end up returned them back to amazon.

I didn't quite understand it. So, is it nice? :D
Too much bass..
For a comparison against other headphones, check this review I did: th-cam.com/video/01jURNStNFo/w-d-xo.html
Build quality?
feels good - much better than something like beats studio 3
If Yamaha releases a more comfortable version of these with no anc, then they'd be worth buying.

I have a comprehensive review where i test 6 leading noise cancelling headphones. The Yamaha, Sonu and Sennheiser are in that test
