You could put the meat and egg in the baggie with the dry ingredients and squish it about, then squeeze it out into the pan. I like your recipe. And using the pot as a cooking chamber a neat idea.
@@DavidCanterbury Yes. Not just a little tough but very tough. The less you work it the more tender it will be. The same goes for burgers and biscuits. 🙂
You have there with the meat loaf and mashed potatoes a perfect shepherd's pie, which can be baked together in the same pan after mixing the potatoes first, laying it down into the pan and then the meatloaf on top. That way you stretch your meat a bit further, or you can cook up 2 loads. One for now and one for later. The key to Shepard's pie is the mixed veggies you put in, and the potatoes
Love this, I will be back for the French press when it is available. I do a similar meat loaf, try a one gallon ziplock. Holds everything and then use the bag for mixing.
I like a double wall SS French Press since it'll hold the heat better, however, this one has the advantage of making your coffee IN the pot you drink from, and multi-function of an oven. A Reflectix (homemade) cozy for the French Press would give you that thermal retention property. Nice piece of kit there Dave.
Zahn is such a nice kitchen helper and obvious food connoisseur! 😀 excellent looking meatloaf there! It’s nice to see how you can improvise a simple pot like that into an “oven”. A simple rack or pan inside can extend your meal variety almost anywhere!
I've been wanting this French Press ever since you first talked about it I'm seeing how much more versatile and can be so I guess I'll be adding this to my collection of gear
I started watching you on tv and I just love all your videos. You have a lot of knowledge and for some of us (me) that have none. I think you are informative and awesome 😎
Meatloaf is always a good meal! It looked great. Thanks again for referring folks over to the Pathfinder Outdoor Kitchen series on the Self Reliance Outfitters TH-cam channel. I appreciate you reminding your audience. I am glad I left that green bandana behind lol! It has been handy. Looking forward to next weekend!
My wife vacuum seals eggs she dehydrates here at home. So, I'm actually pretty excited to try this in the field with pretty stable products we already have. Thanks for the video, Mr. Canterbury!
Looking forward to getting this French Press as well as your 10” fry pan. Always look forward to your product releases. I’ve never been disappointed with any of your products. Thank You.
Dave, you did it! That 48oz cup with coffee press is going to be a big hit! I can’t wait to get one! Great job! Also love seeing you back doing cooking tip videos.
These dehydrated soup vegetable mixes are one of my favorite things this channel has turned me on to. Affordable, tasty, lightweight and usable in so many different dishes. Thanks Dave!
Meatloaf looks great, pretty much the same way I make a loaf at home. Nice to see you treating the cat well, seeing that little dude makes me miss my shop cat, left about a week ago and hasn't been back, hope he's getting meatloaf chucked at him somewhere. Keep on keepin on fellers.
Really enjoying these videos! Your meals always looks awesome! Probably bc it’s when I get home from work and watch your videos while waiting/cooking dinner😂, but thank you for all the great little meals anyone can make!
Every new cooking video of yours is my new favorite video! Mixing or pairing vegetables with your meat is very important for thorough digestion of any meat. Also, both meat and veggies require acidity to break them down, so never mix fruit with veggies or meat. Fruit is alkaline and requires an alkaline environment to break down, so mixing fruit with veggies/ fruit with meat causes putrifaction in the gut, causing all kinds of problems.
I'm not much of a coffee guy, but my wife can't go without, so this is going on my shopping list. A tip for the mashed potatoes: cut the bag down, squeeze out the air, and reseal with tape and you can fit more of them in your pack that way. The Knorr Pasta Sides or rice meals are the same way...
I wholeheartedly share your views on veg! Consequently I'm picking up some good meat recipes here. Also love the comments you make each time you tuck into whatever dish you've just made. Now there's a man who loves his food.
Your attention to detail is amazing, the tweaks you make to products elevate them above the rest. As for eggs, if you know someone who has chickens, a fresh laid egg will stay safe at room temperature for weeks. Sounds crazy but true. As long as it has not been washed in any way, just straight out of the chicken you can have fresh eggs in July. Not breaking them on the way to camp is a separate issue!
Excellent, I've always used rice or oatmeal , have to try crushed crackers. Those small aluminum loaf pans are great for making individual loafs in a Dutch oven.
I've been watching all of your videos on cooking etc. and that meat loaf is the best yet. 👌 Had to stop at the end of video to do a few things before I left a comment, and my mouth is still watering. I have everything you used down to the brand names for ingredients. Even the potatoes. My potatoes have garlic in it but that's beside the point. Great stuff, like the press, and the kitchen vids. So many great ideas, and products from you and SRO. A shout out to black hat bush craft, and corporals corner. You all make some mouth watering stuff! God bless you all, and see you in the next one.
Man, Dave I'm always so hungry after watching your cooking videos! Great stuff as always, meatloaf looks awesome! Rib stickin! Gonna have to make some this week
Great cat, what a buddy to share lunch with you.....lol. Dave Canterbury, I already have that Pathfinder large cup and bottle set. Will that same 48oz. cup work with that French Press if I drill a hole in the center of the cup lid to allow for the press rod? I realize that the original 48oz. cup doesn't have a spout, but that's not a really big problem. Thanks for the video and meat loaf recipe.
Finally I will be able to leave that Stanley French press at home .. and the list of goodies just keeps growing .. hope I can pull the trigger on this as part of my birthday and get to enjoy using it at the gbbc fall gathering . Sure would be nice to get it in time for that
Kitty really likes you Dave, and you like kitty, that's nice. ;-) I have two mini bread pans that I make bisket loaves in, they are a good heavy steal and are just about the same size as the disposable one you used, and your knife won't poke a hole in them. That meat loaf looks real good too. What your viewers have to remember is that the egg and crackers are not optional, they are what makes everything bind together. This makes me want to try making one, real soon. Where did you learn such great camp cooking, not gourmet, but good old fashion plain cooking, the stuff we grew up eating? ;-)
Won't be able to reuse your ziploc. But, you could put it all in the ziploc, push the air out, seal it, and mix it all up meading the bag. Then dump th mix in your pan. Looks Delicious! 😋
The feline overlord approved of your efforts 😆Loved the recipe, technique, tools. I saw your response to another commenter about not mixing it in the bag because it'd turn out tough, but because you did the trick with crackers & [dried] milk (I use bread & milk) to make a panade which keeps the loaf from becoming too dense, mixing in the bag would certainly wouldn't hurt. Unless you're really overmixing, it would still turn out with a great texture, plus you can just slice off a corner of the bag and squirt the mixture into the pan. Love me some Sweet Baby Ray's - The Sauce is the Boss!
Dave, do you have any plans for a combination US Army mess tin/MSR Seagull? I remember way back you liked the idea of a latch-closed pot with dividers on the lid that you could carry water with.
....Good piece of gear .... Quality camp meal ,, I use a bush pot and bake a number of meals like this and even sweet rolls and desserts ,,,works great on the edge of hot coals .. ... Hey Dave ,, why don't you pet that cat ,, he seems neglected ...lol.. Simple meal with great flavor .....CAT APPROVED !!
Dave, your cat is awesome !!
He doesn’t have a French press, he’s just a cat! 😂
He's a country cat!!! In a horace Kephart hat😁
@@DavidCanterbury Is Rufus still around?

Makes the meat loaf tough if over mixed
@@DavidCanterbury Roger that.
@@DavidCanterbury Yes. Not just a little tough but very tough. The less you work it the more tender it will be. The same goes for burgers and biscuits. 🙂
Definitely the way to go. Catsup and brown mustard plus a little brown sugar is all you need for the glaze.

The cat makes these videos so much better. Now don’t get me wrong your content is top tier, but the Dave - Cat duo is incredibly entertaining!
What a precious cat. Daves' reaction to it says a lot about his character. Bless you bro!
I'd use the "dry ingredients bag" to mix with. Thanks for all the years of amazing content. You're a legend
The cat is back!!!!!! Love that cat - gonna have to look into the french press.
Love your cat. I can't wait to get that french press. Great looking meal
Love the all metal French press! It will be out for Christmas I hope. Paws up to your cooking assistant.

I love it, I have one made by Stanley, but I don't like their plastic lid and press. Can't wait to try yours. Oh, and that cat is a real ham.
When the French press pantry kit came out a couple months ago I was able to get one for Father’s Day. I can’t way to bake this!

I've been using the press/screen from a 2 cup Boudin French Press with my 25 oz s/s pathfinder canteen cup....works great.
Put it all in the bag to mix. Don't know if you put some in but bell pepers are great in meat loaf.
Thank you for the update can't wait.
In a pinch an amount of Mayonnaise or Miracle whip will work as replacement for an egg.
I wondered if you mixed the meat and egg in the zip loc bag with your spices then pour out the mixed meat into the aluminum pan?
Really looking forward to picking up that Press Dave. Great videos as always sir.
