    I love that kitty waiting under the stove for sausage to fall 😂❤
    If you let the grease get super hot BEFORE you add the taters, they won't get a chance to soak up the grease and wont stick.
    Let it get hot first.
    Love your videos. I wish i had an outdoor kitchen

    That looked awesome Dave, next time just add the dough to the bottom of the camp oven and add the eggs and rest on top. Cook it the way you did with the coals and you'll have a cheesy, hashbrown, sausage, breakfast pie. Oh My, lol

    You can also make the biscuits by using just heavy cream and self rising flour, but I appreciate seeing how to make butter and the buttermilk from the cream.

    Another thing you can do dave is make cream biscuits. with those you can add the heavy whipping cream straight into the self rising flour and forgo the mess of cutting in butter. the nice thing about cream biscuits is it's not as difficult to overwork the dough as other recipes and it'll allow you to use up that extra cream you didn't use for the butter

    Really love this cooking series Dave Phenomenal!! Recipes and that down home in the country feeling.
    Want to throw my two cents in on the Dutch oven theory. There was a cooking show on public television back in the early 1990’s featuring a retired Idaho game warden by the name of CW Butch Welch that would cook on everything cast iron and referred to those camp ovens as Dutch Ovens. Don’t want to criticize what you said but Lodge also describes those as a Camp Dutch Oven on there box for sale.
    Thanks for sharing and all you do for the outdoor community. Greetings from Chicago and ATB Mike

    • @donalddicorcia2433
      @donalddicorcia2433 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Historically, “Dutch” referred to the process for casting the iron. It was perfected in Holland. All large, deep cooking vessels were called Dutch ovens. The variety with legs on it and a rimmed lid to hold coals on top was the “camp” version since it allowed the vessel to sit just above a bed of coals as you would typically find in a camping scenario.

    To make more buttermilk ■ add about 3 tablespoons of buttermilk to about a quart of milk; let set loose lid on counter in a warm spot for a day or two. Then refrigerate and use; the culture keeps this process going

    Side note: I took your advice from your lecture talk and brushed up on woodworking, tree knowledge, and bought a few traps. I still suck at blacksmithing, but I can fish, hunt, forage, garden, trap, cook, make medicines, and do a passable job of bandaging someone up. Bushcraft and fire building I already knew. Maybe I'll survive this crazy world a little longer because of your wisdom. Thank you.
    Any advice on where to learn basic blacksmithing skills? At least enough to repair and make crude tools? I can make a nail so far and that's about it lol

    alternately, whisk a little flour with the sausage grease to make a roux, then whisk in a little heavy cream and a little more flour and water and more flour til you have a nice gravy. add the sausage back to the gravy and when the biscuits are done, slice them horizontal on a plate, flop the top half over and ladle the gravy over the biscuits. enjoy! (you can add a little butter to the roux and/or butter the biscuits before you put the gravy on them too)
