- More than 100 Safeway and Albertsons locations in Arizona could be sold in the Kroger merger, so what will happen to employees and stores if that happens?

dont let them merge and monopolize. less competition is bad for customers
all of this is about greed! monopolies!
The corporations did lots of "mergers" in the 1990's. The Boomers screamed for moratoriums on housing development, too. The cities and suburbs didn't build for a long time.
ITS SEEMS LIKE THERE ONLY WILL BE ONE
sounds like a trick where people can eventually rip us off even more with high prices
If it becomes a monopoly they can charge virtually any price for any product. Gouging will be rampant.
We lost Ralies in NM in early 2000's and choices have been reduced and prices have only increased. Merger is bad for customers.
Prices are already gone up. Seems like the store owned by Kroger by us has doubled their prices on basic items like bread.
What happened to antitrust laws?
@@XXtheJUMPoffXX fairytale
Time to shop at winco more..
Winco is the only place we shop
Yup I always shop at cinco for about 90% of my groceries
Employee owned!
Stop the merger
This merger makes no sense. Kroger is only keeping 34 Arizona Albertson/Safeway stores and selling over 100.
I price shopped at Kroger and Albertsons in the late 80s and early 90s in the Shreveport area. Back then, Albertsons did not own Safeway; however, the prices at Albertsons were substantially higher than Safeway. The prices at Kroger were high enough to make Albertsons' prices appear low.
Anyone working at Corporate Albertsons on Happy Valley are shitting bricks
Great one big corporate monopoly, please litigate. No merger!!!!!!!!!
They said that there is a different conglomerate taking them over. Nobody listens anymore, they just read the headline and spaz out 😂😂😂😂
I smell a monopoly happening
Meyers is Krogers is Smith’s. They’ve got the board all locked up already. It’s them va Walmart and the smaller hometown stores eventually turn to EGA or a discount then belly up. Corporations are out of control.
Just waiting for the fallout for the stores in Nevada cause they also wanted to merge but someone was looking out for us and the merge somehow went dead in the waters.
😢😢😢😢😢😂😂😂😂😊.
Would create another huge food chain monopoly. Kroger one of the highest priced grocery outlets
If they are telling the truth. I have my doubts.
It's too big to fail, but not to big for sales. Greed at its worst.!!!!
This is a bad idea. Don't sell
Grocery prices will certainly go up at a higher rate than inflation if the merger goes through. The enormous amount of money being offered to buy these grocery chains has to be financed in some way. The cost of doing business is going up. This means more of the revenue coming in will be used to pay for financing of this project. This is bad for consumers. Less selection and higher prices.
Groceries have gone up 15% this year in Flagstaff.
As if most things weren't already expensive enough
Not too many years ago, Albertsons and Safeway were pulling shenanigans....They are a poorly-managed company!
What a terrible thing for Arizona and Washington state as they are losing over 100 supermarkets each.
Kroger SUCKS. This is so bad and we were sold out by the Democrat DOJ on this one, total monopoly forming.
Kroger might ''suck'' but has better products for less money Albertsons and Safeway costs more then Kroger
Thought the merger is still being contested by the FTC, and hadn't gone through yet. These are just proposals for if the government drops the ball and lets the merger through.
@@buttdreads smiths (Kroger) have higher prices than Albertsons forsure. Way higher markup for items. I deliver to both and they get the same wholesale price and they charged 2 dollars more per item. You have no clue of what you’re talking about. Lower standards in refrigeration also.
@@m.someone6792 we don’t have smiths in Arizona, so I’m not talking about your state I’m talking AZ. FRYs
@@buttdreads smiths is owned by the same company just different names for other areas same company.
T-mobile promised that they would not lay people off as well and that prices would not go up when they bought Sprint. Guess what happened? Thousands of people laid off and a few weeks ago they raised prices.
In our community we have 2 smiths and 2 Safeways. I was in Safeway yesterday. There were a couple of corporate people flaunting about. Perhaps they were D.Ms.? Ones was telling the meat cutter to NOT cut any meat and keep shelves light! The entire section was only 1 deep on product.and no stock on many common items. Most depts. were the same. Just pulling back stock.
I have never liked Kroger's even when I lived in Cincinnati. HIgher prices WILL happen.
Grocery Stores are the new Boeing
These newscasters. In an economy where some people are having a hard time paying for groceries the grocery store by them matters
Yes prices will rise if this goes through
DEFIN....
Monopolies are illegal tho right
Save Safeway !
Why? It’s so overpriced.
@@Sarge51BG Quality control 👌

I work at one of those stores 😢 I hate kroger and Albertsons has been so good to me :( time to look for a new job…
Sucks to find out this way too. Not even from the company.
Welcome to oligarchic America!
It will become what is known as
“ food desert“
How sad for shoppers. What about the workers?
Safeway and Albertsons are too expensive. Winco is so much better
That’s your beautiful Capitalism!
What about the pharmacy? That could end up being a nightmare for some people.
WE DIDNT KNOW THAT THERE WAS EVEN ONE SINGLE ALBERTSONS ANYWHERE IN ARIZONA, SO THIS IS NEWS TO US!
Right, they failed to notify workers that if your store location like mine was chosen you are not allowed to relocate to another location. It sound good right now until the end date hit 2025.
I think it should be against the law for employees to lose their job especially to nefarious underhanded mergers.
While back Albertson's open their store in Wichita KS less than one year they closed their stores because of high prices double.
Garland where are you????
The reporters kept focusing on what *Isn't* being affected.
Now talk about how it *will* affect customers.
I lived in Prescott several years back when Albertson's sold one of their stores to a smaller chain. That particular store was in a lower income section of town. When the new chain took over, the overall prices increased by an average of 10%... it only lasted about a year before closing. I hope that the same thing doesn't happen in the present... inflation has taxed everyone more than enough without a new store raising prices even more.
Our attorney general is amazing. Always looking out for the Arizona people first and fights for what actually matters.
mergers = more control = price manipulation
Is that why Kroger is downsizing people in their stores. They are not hire new people.
And here I am considering a move to AZ!
Yes. Those stores might close. But people eat. And other stores will provide those services. Employees will simply change their name tags and return to work on schedule. Competition is an overused work and concept. We shop Safeway every week. But also Costco and Walmart. Higher prices only reflect a weakened dollar. It takes more dollars to buy the same basket of foods. I am okay with that just like I am okay with paying employees more money. I am retired and fully understand our economy is based upon consumerism.
I heard a few years ago that Kroger's long term goal is to have large warehouses, called sheds, all over the country, from which customers will order and have the products delivered. There will be no in store shopping anymore.
Proof please. I will wait......
That is a good way to remove or get rid of the unions.
Is that a proper way to remove mortgage paying jobs, I don’t think so.
I bet you a dollar to a donut that Trump will supports this idea.
M.A.G.A. are you great yet?
@@mikeward7290 Red or blue, they are two sides of the same coin, and don't care one iota about us commoners, just about how much money and power that can be accumulated and kept. It's been the same old playbook with those in power for many centuries.
Also, it could become a way to control what and how much food and goods people are allowed to buy with the coming digital currency, especially if .gov is in control of it.
No one will lose their jobs? Excellent 💪🏽
Piggly Wiggly’s is 100 times better than all these stores! I hope they come here!
Just like the selling of Mariano's in Chicago it's all in effort to control not only Price points but more importantly the quality of fresh food people have access to.
Wow, get that girl on everybody's team that's exactly correct we all know that these lies have been said before a different companies that I've left and left everybody hanging employees and us people trying to make ends meet every single day for our families. We need the competition amongst both places, both places have great people. Safeway tends to be high quality food and also they're very very kind very kind. They have a good policies in place for a bunch of different things. Come on people stand up behind the attorney journal and don't let this happen to our community.
Why don’t they talk about Higgins? Sounds to me like it’s the start all over again like when Albertson’s bought Vons Higgins kept their employees and then let them file bankruptcy.
Guaranteed they will not keep the same employess and same pay. Nope. Wont happen.
Big mistake if this merger goes through!! Prices will go up and we will be left with crappier locations as they sell of Albertsons stores. Albertsons stores are run so much better, their stores are lsrger and cleaner and they have welcoming waxed floors. King Soopers, Smiths, Kroger stores overall in many markets old, ugly, dirty and over priced.
I agree. It’s just a way to get the merger done. These were probably stores Kroger would close anyway after the merger went through…..
Why would they sell? They are making the most money they've ever seen! Unless they know what is coming?
Come on stater brothers let’s go to Arizona
Rebadged to Kroger's. Then selling Kroger second rate label foods at big price increase.
You will eat Z bugs and be happy.
This merger will mean low pay and higher prices
Price go up more too
YES INDEED
THE COLLAPSE HAS BEGUN ....
YES
NOW SAFEWAY AND ALBERTSON, WHICH COUNTRY IS BUYING THESE SUPER MARKET
Yeah, they’ll keep everything the same for now but once the contract end with the union everything will be changing
Tell me you don't understand business without saying you don't understand business - is my comment for the majority of the comments under this video
Sad days ahead for Babylon
Yeah this merger is a horrible idea. Monopoly then Kroger can set the bar and your stuck paying whatever they want to charge
Greed is a helluva drug.
Safeway/Vons was bought out by Albertsons then Albertsons sold to Kroger.
Go hungry.
How is that (not climate- -change) weather out there?!
😊😂😂
What will happen in 100+ Arizona Safeway, Albertsons stores if sold?
Where’s the list of?
Go*gle is your friend
Fresh and cheap?
Colorado is next!
Too $$$$...,not cheap lol
cant stand the middle one
Easier for the "government" to control the few grocery outlets that will remain.
The Pig moves West!!!

Sue your incompetent governor and federal government
Food crisis coming soon.

They are being sold because the locations are no longer profitable.
Who would want to buy them.

She loves Albertsons because she doesn't know how awful, their manage, went is.

Albertsons is terrible overpriced Grocery shopping , sometimes the meat deals are ok >
But you can't beat their digital deals. At least most of the time.
Piggly wiggly...what a joke...i,ll go to walmart...hate Kroger aka smiths
I'm leaving shopping Albertson's an safeway
It’s 2024 .. you guys actually still walk in store to grocery shop? 😂😂
Yes, we do that to avoid all the delivery charges and "club" memberships.
The second reason is to keep current on pricing and comparison shopping. The corporate ghouls do not want their customers to comparison shop. They do not want you, let's call it, read the labels and the price tags.
Shopping online is killing the benefits of unit pricing we fought so hard to establish years ago. When did you last see a unit price comparison online?
The one thing that has stuck out to me is how long checkout lines are in grocery stores are becoming. Corporate ghouls are hoping to force you into online shopping. The lines are long because they keep reducing, or not replacing, staff in you local stores.
There are many other tricks the ghouls are implementing. Some I haven't identified yet, but myself and other consumers are no longer fooled by these master manipulators.
Don't allow the ghouls to close your local stores. Stop shopping online. That is where the real savings is occuring.
Yes because I’m not lazy and don’t need or want everything to be delivered to me. Going to the store is a great way to get out of the house on these hot summer days.
@@suzannemeowmeow you let someone else grow your produce? 😂😂 you guys act like it’s 1992 or something. Get with the damn times ..
Private company's don't need anybodys approval to sell there company. Keep voting for democrats and Arizona will be California 2.0.
Kroger is the best and the stores are going to change names and employees are keeping their jobs, everyone relax.
that never happens
Highest priced outlets and forces its employees to “ support” LGBTQ perversion with emblems on their shirts
