Jewel got bought several times, and the main reason they went down hill. They pay their employees minimum wage, so theres no excuse for their horrible prices
Thank You!!! 💯💯💯💯 Well said, my thoughts exactly. I quit shopping at Jewel-Osco decades ago as well. Absolutely right, their prices exorbitantly marked up 110% on extremely low quality poor product, particularly spoiled rotten molded old unedible produce. And, for the love of God, how many times HAIR was discovered in their deli prepackaged product and bakery stuff 🤢🤢🤮🤮
It was dumb of Jewel to sellout to Kroger back in the day in the first place! I'm so glad both Schnucks and Dierberg's here in St. Louis are family owned and haven't sold out to the big guys!
@@AndreBarnettJohnsonthey all start out that way. Schnucks is “family owned” yet has bought out and closed numerous smaller grocery stores in Illinois and Missouri in an effort to expand or monopolize market. Family owned corporations aren’t by definition more moral (see Walmart and Enterprise Car Rental) Schnucks is no different than Kroger and Albertsons just on a smaller level. At some point don’t be surprised if they sell to them.
@PauloHacket Lol 90s. Do you currently work at jewel? Because you can tell me what the union book says. You can even go on indeed and see average pay. Deli workers making a dollar more than service clerks.
@PauloHacket And why dont you ask a new hire. Since you dont work at Jewel. Love people like you that dont even work their thinking people that bag groceries are making 25 an hour.
So much hype and manufactured outrage…. Unless the stores are all closing for good, you’ll still be able to purchase groceries. The only thing that will change is the name on the storefront.
Both Mariano’s and Jewel are disgusting. They are not kept clean and common perishables like milk and eggs are purposely in short supply The prices are outrageous and the product quality is terrible most of the food is very bad for your health because it’s ultra processed with all kinds of addictive ingredients like sugar and chemicals and there is zero customer service. The few employees they do have usually look like their homeless people who wandered in from the street and there’s always more security guards than there are cashiers because the shoppers are disrespectful and rude to each other because of the miserable shopping experience. People are getting screwed because they have no where else to go
The most important thing is the Union Dues will still go to the local union office to be distributed to our union friendly office holders. Grocery prices may increase to pay off the debt from the buy out but it is a small price to pay for the positive outcome.
When Albertsons bought out Dominick's they turned around and reduced wages, Dominick's turned around and moved out of state, I feel this will happen again, Mariano's will get reduced wages as well
My guess with those 4 Jewel stores is that they will change to one of the names that C&S owns, which will be Mariano's (which they will now own), Butera or Piggly Wiggly.
Eventually their will be only 1 grocery store to buy our food, and thats what "they" wantt
exactly..not sure how ppl do not see the monopoly going on
They dont really care.they want to make billions selling property just like they did Sears dirty
Eventually, China will own all our farms and ranches, all our food sources. And we'll be eating SOYLENT GREEN!( ITS PEOPLE)!😂
@@paulaheckman9928 1984 all over again 😂
@@PomegranatesWeather that was a excellent movie! 😀
Jewel sucks and prices are AT LEAST 30% more than Aldi and Woodmans. I dropped Jewel YEARS ago.

Correction: Jewel sold out to Albertsons back in 1999...Albertsons owns Jewel! Albertsons sold out to Kroger back in 2022.

No! I live between a Jewel and Mariano's. I like the competition!
I love a half block from a jewel. Have not been in there in years. Way to expensive. I miss my Dominicks.
Yes, I miss Dominick’s, too!!! Variety and selection of product were so much higher quality, better, fresher. Miss that Fresh Values Card. ❤
@@noelc.2007 Mariano's have a card too .
Higher prices because of less competition
Why does ANYONE pay Jewel prices anyway?! Aldi keeps me satisfied. It's ALL good. Nobody needs to pay Jewel prices. Now they'll find alternatives!
their produce dept is very bad and way too pricey
@PauloHacket
Jewel is minimum wage.

Jewel and Marriano's have high prices but they also have high quality food. I especially love their fresh meat and seafood.

That’s not gon be good

Yae, higher prices!
Kroger has already ruined many grocery stores in Rockford thanks to a buyout nearly 25 years ago.

More reason to shop at Aldi

Chicago grocery stores are TRASH. Jewels are horrible. Marianos was ruined long ago.
Its too bad Publix isn’t country wide

The 4 Chicago area Jewel ones will probably be brought by Tony's. The 28 Mariano's are up in the air.
