    Thanks for the video. You ain't lying about the dipstick breaking easily! Mine snapped wiping it against a paper towel on the concrete while I was checking the fluid level/condition this past weekend. $25 for a new one at my local dealership.

    Hello Sir, Great video, very helpful. How many quarts of fluid did you end up pumping in ?

      How hard would it be to get a hold of the factory service manual?? The Chilton book that I bought did not show the dipstick position correctly it showed only the "viewport" bolt, without your video I would have probably not been able to figure it out thank you for that.

    I have an 08 Expedition that has a bad shudder when i accelerate at certain speeds. I want to try a transmission fluid change. I don't believe the transmission fluid has ever been changed. How can I tell if this is safe to do without damaging my transmission with new fluid in it?

    • @okhotrodder
      @okhotrodder 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not really any way to tell if changing the fluid is going to hurt it. I will say a few yrs ago that my 2005 F150 was shuddering pretty bad and when I changed the fluid it got worse, especially between 1st and 2nd shift. I took a chance, spent $400 on an Edge programmer and been driving it ever since. I set it on stage 2 which is for hauling, and now it has quicker, more firmer shifts.
      I haul a lot with it, and yrs later its still good. I'm sure the programmers are a lot more expensive now but at the time, it was cheaper/quicker then pulling and rebuilding the trans.
      I'm guessing that the programmer was causing the solenoids/internal parts to act quicker with firmer action, and with new fluid, stopped the shuddering. Its been one of those cross my fingers and hope it works type of things, which it did.
      It may not work for you but might be worth a try.

    What are your thoughts on using an oil extractor to remove the oil from the pan without dropping it and refilling? The dip stick hole gives a clear shot into the pan. I've dropped the pan in the past once for a fluid change and the second time to repair the leaking bulkhead connector. Not looking forward to doing it again. Was thinking the extraction method might work.

      If you have large debris it prob won't come out with suction, and the magnet prob needs cleaned also. It doesn't take much to pull the pan other then the mess. If your going to change or remove the fluid often without changing the filter, you can install a drain plug into the pan when you have it off next.

    Any chance everything is substantially the same for a 2008 Explorer XLT? Need to do and can't find a video-

    If a 1in piece of the dipstick broke off in the transmission pan will it damage the transmission if I drive it

    is it the same as the 2007 lincoln navigator

    How do you do the same thing with a 2008 Lincoln Navigator 5.4 4x4.

    • @stevendaviddraper
      @stevendaviddraper 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Should be the same. Looks just like my 2014 Lincoln Navigator. All same from 2007-2014.

    Is there not a place in engine compartment to fill transmission fluid?

    • @okcvet1st
      @okcvet1st  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, there isn't a fill point anywhere in the engine compartment on the '08 Expedition.

    Many 2008 navigators have the 2007 transmission with the drain plug on the side. My opinion? Way better and easier to change..🤣🙌.. Trust me. Usually the first production trucks of 2008 may have the earlier trans.

    Where can you buy those pumps at

      I've seen them different places. Harbor Freight, O'Reillys, & Summit Racing are a few.

    What about all the oil in the converter?

    • @okcvet1st
      @okcvet1st  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      This Expedition doesn't have a drain plug on the converter, as most vehicles don't. Unless your converter has a drain plug, it’s just not practical to expect the converter fluid to be changed. If a shop or anyone else for that matter, is telling you they are draining and changing the converter oil, they are most likely lying to you and just throwing a sales pitch to make you think they know what they are doing, or charging you for a service not performed.

    • @ke6gwf
      @ke6gwf 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ya, if you have burned fluid or something where you need to change the converter fluid also, then you have to do a triple flush, where you drain it, refill it, and then run it to circulate through the TC, and then drain it again, refill it and run it, and then repeat a third time.
      3 cycles gets the old fluid diluted enough for most purposes, and is what Ford generally considers adequate, but if you say have the wrong fluid in, it may take more than 3 times to get it mostly out.
      The same is true with flushing a radiator, because you can't drain all the water jackets and low points, so you have to do the triple flush to get it mathematically flushed.

    Did you have that bump coming to a stop??

    • @okcvet1st
      @okcvet1st  6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Not on this vehicle. This was a preventive maintenance fluid/filter change. Glance at your owners manual to see when the recommended fluid change interval is. I highly recommend changing fluids on time. Also, make sure you use the correct fluid. Don't use anything else in your trans even if the "part store" guy says it'll work or is compatible. I often see problems after a fluid change simply because the wrong fluid was used.

    Where did you get the pump at?

    • @okcvet1st
      @okcvet1st  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can purchase both pumps from most bargain stores like HF and walmart. Each location carries different stock so they may or may not have it on hand and the same to order. Walmart had the electric pump for the same price as HF at the time it was purchased but price may be different now. Other sources are on the internet and Summit Racing carries lots of different items also.

    You would think a multi-billion dollar car company like Ford could figure out a drain plug. What a bunch of knuckleheads.

  • @cedthetruth1311
    @cedthetruth1311 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Uh don’t you just love Ford engineering?? No dip stick on the tranny guaranteed to get most people back to dealer service or to a shop..🙄

    • @okcvet1st
      @okcvet1st  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It does have a dipstick, you just have to go underneath to get to it. I've did many other vehicles that have nothing to check level at all.
