  • I've picked 11 albums that have brilliant side B openers, i.e. track B1. These are all classics - the album and the track. Thanks to Dale ‪@gatefold33‬, who I've copied with this video. I set myself some rules that did limit my choice a bit:
    - Only albums that were originally issued on vinyl, not CD
    - Only studio albums
    - No multi-part or whole side tracks (that ruled out Yes!)
    etc...

Hi Andy - thanks for joining in and for the mention. I like your rules. I had Abbey Road on the long list, so glad you showcased it. 'Dreamer' is a great choice and nothing wrong with a great pop song. Same goes for 'Peaches' and 'Walking on the Moon'. Cheers Dale

Thanks Dale. It was fun to do. I didn't mention it in the video but I also decided to rule out multi-part tracks and whole-siders so I had to put the Yes Album away! THanks for prompting me to give it a go, and for watching. Cheers

    Hi Andy
Some cracking choices there, had to smile when it came to The Police Reggatta De Blanc as mine is the 10” double album, so I would have been caught out on that one. Enjoyed watching, as ever. Cheers Andrew

Thanks, Andrew. It's not often I do a video full of classic albums, but I gave up trying to find a brilliant B1 on a recent record, starting with it had to be a single LP with 5 or 6 tracks on each side to signal that it was designed for vinyl! I didn't mention it in the video but I also decided to rule out multi-part tracks and whole-siders so I had to put the Yes Album away! It was fun to do. Thanks for watching, cheers

As soon as you picked up Pet Sounds I knew you were going to say God Only Knows - and I haven’t even got that album yet.
It’s a beautiful ballad and my favourite Beach Boys song.

I saw Groundhogs in 1971 at B'ham Town Hall where they played a lot from Split and of course TCFTB. It was probably the second loudest concert I ever heard and Eccentric Man and Cherry Red were fantastic. Just to say the loudest concert i ever heard was Wah Heat at the Cedar Club in B'ham. I was deaf when I came out and could not hear the car engine when I started the car.

I saw the Groundhogs on the tour after in 72 when they released Hogwash. That was at the Town Hall too. And again in 73. Tony had released his solo Two Sides album and played the support slot. The loudest gig I ever heard was Uriah Heep in Jan 73 at the Town Hall, when they recorded the Live album. I was sat next to one of the pillars in the back stalls and it was vibrating so much! The Cedar Club. I don't think I saw a gig there. My wife saw Queen at Barbarellas 73 or 74 before they hit it big. And I saw Elvis Costello there early 78 if memory serves. Happy days. Thanks for watching. Cheers

Thanks, Alan. I just realised that you changed your YT address? I was searching for Daily Vinyl but couldn't find you. I've subbed you on this one now. It's not often I do a video with all classic albums so this made a change. I'll post a link on freaks later. Cheers. btw I hope to be able to join your quiz tonight if it's on

    Great Picks
I saw someoene else doing this
I added a comment of Peaches so great to see it on your list
I also noted Queen Jane Approximately : Dylan
And since I just got a 50 anniversary reissue
Alice Cooper ; Billion Dollar Babies
Side 2 / Track 1 : No More Mr Nice Guy

Thanks, Jesse. I'm pretty devoid of Dylan, tbh. I don't dislike him, but I've never been able to get really into him either. Alice is another I struggle with. I like individual tracks, including NMMNG, but never got fully into a whole album. My wife was really into him and we do have a handful of his albums including BDB. Thanks for watching. Cheers

    Alright Andy ,
Great video and you picked 11 24 carat tracks there.
I will have a look back but two came to mind , the entire second side of Misplaced Childhood cos it murders the first side ( not sure if that is allowed ) and Light In The Black from Rainbow Rising , Blackmore in total overdrive.
Off to do my homework on this.
I saw The Groundhogs support Rory Gallagher at Hummingbird Brum in the late eighties and then the two of em jammed together , the stars really aligned that night. Both very underrated not unlike Martin Barre and Andy Summers also mentioned in this video.
    Real good stuff mate.
    Stay Safe.

Thanks, Alfie. I didn't mention it in the video but I also decided to rule out multi-part tracks and whole-siders so I had to put the Yes Album away! Tony McPhee and Rory Gallagher! That's a pairing made in heaven. I enjoyed doing this one. It was a good opportunity to do an all-classic mix. Thanks for watching, Alfie. Cheers, mate, and you take care too

Hi Andy, loved your choices for B side openers. Gonna have to give this some thought, but one that springs to mind for my top ten is Give Me Some Truth from John Lennon's classic from '71 "Imagine". Your choices would make for a great mix tape, if such a thing still existed here in the 21st century...

    • @andysalbums
      @andysalbums  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

Thanks Terry. Imagine is a great choice. I guess, these days, the mix tape is a playlist, but mix tape definitely sounds better! Thanks for watching. Cheers

I think it is easier to pick albums from the 70s as we are so familiar with them and we grew up with them. There is a ton of great music that is coming out but we just are not as familar with each album as we did grow up with it. Just my humble thoughts. Well done Andy

Very true, Steve. I tried to find a couple more recent albums, but it was a bit of a needle in a haystack! So many are double albums converted from c60 min CDs, and I just don't know the tracklisting as well as those old classics. Still, it makes a change for me to do a whole video on classic albums! Thanks for watching again. Cheers

Hi Andy, nice surprise to see your impromptu outing today. At first I thought you had raided my collection as you highlighted all but one of your albums not in my collection. It’s a nice idea and I hope side B track one catches on as it will be an interesting thread if it catches on. I’m ploughing through the RSD list and got it down to seven albums, are you taking part? Thanks for this it certainly gives us some thought whenever we play side two of our albums. Take care and see you next time 👍

    • @andysalbums
      @andysalbums  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Thanks, Myles. It was a loy of fun to do, and a good opportunity to showcase an all-classic mix. I did have a look at the RSD list when it was published. There are a couple I'd like, but I'll probably just see what's left after the event. Thanks for watching. Cheers mate
