Thank you. Really interesting longitudinal study! Of course the cohort that did develop dementia couldn't remember whether they had eaten nuts, but hopefully the methodology eliminated this particular problem :)
Fat in nuts or meat is needed for the brain to function well. This together with vegetables which are not high in oxalates, eggs, low carbs, fruit and long walks in nature, a good healthy sleep, all these can be the best medicine for your health.
Nuts have vitamin E whis is supposed to be go for the brain. 18 years ago my husband had early dementia and the doctor said to give him Vitamin E daily. My husband had some basal cell skin cancer and while at the Dermatologist, she suggested I give him a handful of nuts daily that the nuts had vitamin E.
Something you failed to mention. Some nuts are better than others. I am not convinced salted peanuts are a good food source. I do agree though that a medium cup full of at least 7 varieties of nuts and seeds every day is the way to prevent inflammaging and reduce the risks of dementia. I do also believe it contributes to longevity generally.
Peanuts are "Legumes" not nuts (In the bean family) People in the southern US like boiled peanuts /soft. During the US civil War the soldiers ate "goober peas" (boiled peanuts)
@@elainegoad9777Botanically speaking, almonds are not nuts either, they are the seeds of a fruit. However, for the purpose of nutrition, I think any large seed should be regarded as a nut. True nuts are very varied - for example, chestnuts are high in carbs and low in fat compared to most nuts, so including chestnuts but excluding peanuts makes no sense.
I don't think seed oils or snickers are "toxic" at all, except if you eat too much/many of them! You might have personal preferences or even allergies. Some people fare better with keto diet, others can eat a lot of carbs, or maybe even carnivore only, but for the majority eating a bit of everything is the best, and that can include seeds and snacks, in addition to enough veggies, fruits, proteins, carbs, etc.
If people would eat their green and multicolored veggies daily and meat an eggs and go very low carb everyone would do better health wise. Cut out sugar, seed oils and soda and alcohol etc... fruit juice is high in sugar !
Nuts and legumes are all seeds! Are they not? All contain a high density of nutrients, in which they need to start the growth of a new plant. Am I way off on this?
Watch out for cashews. The plants are closely related to poison oak and their oils are only slightly different in molecular structure, Imagine what would happen if you ate poison oak leaves. Look up cardol, one of the primary oils in processed cashews, or Adipostatin A by another name, for more specific and serious problems with this particular nut.
I love cashews, roasted and salted they taste even better. And wasabi!!! I think you are mixing cashews and Brazil nuts, these you should not eat more than 1 or 2 per day.
Interesting. I have noticed that eating too many cashews makes me feel unwell, and it is the only thing that will give me a few small pimples on my chin. Nothing else does this. And by eating too much, I mean it only takes more than a small handful.
@@thaliablackman2442 A clue on the pimples. In Hawaii the condition mango mouth is well known. The mango plant is another member of the family anacardiaceae. My guess is the offensive oil is contained in the very thin skin of this tropical fruit.
@ thanks for watching, it’s a little complicated with people who have real disease because nuts have oxalate, which can cause kidney stones, I would speak to a dietitian
It's impossible to control all variables with any study with humans so you have to take what the results are of any study knowing that. Sometimes you have to just go with the results and have some faith that it may be right. No guaranties come with any study.
Maybe it's like soaking seeds overnight before you plant. It speeds up germination. 'Sprouting' the seed before you eat (more nutritious)...that is what I understood ...my two cents..y@@NewCandy1
So......nuts may help keep one from going nuts.
LOL! Good one. I love nuts.

meat and eggs are proven pro-inflammatory.
I know poeple who dit this diet as lifestyle, + yoga..+organic staff etc..many died of a cancer. So.?
Some people fare well with carbs... I can not eat meat but never had issues with seed oils, maybe because I don't use a lot of oil.
It would be great if you would share the link to the study.

How about seeds?
The study didn’t talk about seeds, but they are also healthy
@@DrJoeFeuerstein I know you said a handful of nuts but in terms of grams, how much would you advise?
Organic peanuts to avoid pesticides and perhaps avoid cashews altogether
Peanuts are not... real nuts! Check it (and I'm eating peanuts every day, mostly for calories).
And why would you avoid cashews?
Legumes are not nuts. Peanuts are oily and not as healthy as nuts but much cheaper.
Peanuts have the most pesticides used of anything grown . Not safe to eat unless organic.
Peanuts are not true nuts, but legumes, by the way...

Small quantities, nuts have omega 6, a little is good a lot is inflammatory, can’t believe you didn’t mention that…….
Nuts definitely have omega sixes but a handful the day is not going cause lots of inflammation

Correlation? Causation? Spurious? What do nut eaters also do/do not do relative to non-nut eaters? Control for that and now you are talking.
