    Thank you. Really interesting longitudinal study!
    Of course the cohort that did develop dementia couldn't remember whether they had eaten nuts, but hopefully the methodology eliminated this particular problem :)

    Fat in nuts or meat is needed for the brain to function well. This together with vegetables which are not high in oxalates, eggs, low carbs, fruit and long walks in nature, a good healthy sleep, all these can be the best medicine for your health.

    Nuts have vitamin E whis is supposed to be go for the brain. 18 years ago my husband had early dementia and the doctor said to give him Vitamin E daily. My husband had some basal cell skin cancer and while at the Dermatologist, she suggested I give him a handful of nuts daily that the nuts had vitamin E.

    Something you failed to mention. Some nuts are better than others. I am not convinced salted peanuts are a good food source. I do agree though that a medium cup full of at least 7 varieties of nuts and seeds every day is the way to prevent inflammaging and reduce the risks of dementia. I do also believe it contributes to longevity generally.

      Peanuts are "Legumes" not nuts (In the bean family) People in the southern US like boiled peanuts /soft. During the US civil War the soldiers ate "goober peas" (boiled peanuts)

      @@elainegoad9777Botanically speaking, almonds are not nuts either, they are the seeds of a fruit. However, for the purpose of nutrition, I think any large seed should be regarded as a nut. True nuts are very varied - for example, chestnuts are high in carbs and low in fat compared to most nuts, so including chestnuts but excluding peanuts makes no sense.

    Please note if the nuts are roasted in seed oils or raw. Seed oils are toxic. It’s like saying to eat a snickers bar for the nuts.

    • @DR_1_1
      @DR_1_1 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I don't think seed oils or snickers are "toxic" at all, except if you eat too much/many of them!
      You might have personal preferences or even allergies.
      Some people fare better with keto diet, others can eat a lot of carbs, or maybe even carnivore only, but for the majority eating a bit of everything is the best, and that can include seeds and snacks, in addition to enough veggies, fruits, proteins, carbs, etc.

    Watch out for cashews. The plants are closely related to poison oak and their oils are only slightly different in molecular structure, Imagine what would happen if you ate poison oak leaves. Look up cardol, one of the primary oils in processed cashews, or Adipostatin A by another name, for more specific and serious problems with this particular nut.
