What amazing eyes. Each pony has such lovely big eyes. As always I enjoy your videos. A blanket of positivity in a world where so much is negativity. Your videos brighten my day.
Yes who doesn't love the mealy horses with the light shading around the eyes? And four forehead whorls on the one pony...Very unusual and interesting. Forehead whorls and highly heritable, and associated with sections of the equine genome coding for neurological development. Did you see if more of the ponies at this barn had multiple forehead whorls?
@@debrabiderman4275 mealy is an appropriate term describing the light orangey brown colour on the muzzle and eye points of a dark Bay ❤ they literally say that in the video Deborah, "they have mealy points just like Exmoor ponies" 😂😂😂😂
The Kisouma are a delightful breed, what a treat! 🏇🏻 And Mounted Archery has long had a place in my imagination! 🎯 Many thanks for sharing your journey! ❤️🙏💞
Very first time hearing of the Kisouma. What a great video this is to watch. Makes me wanna ride right now as well. What great looking ponies, so sturdy. Thanks for another awesome vid 😊
Oh my gosh - this episode was absolutely amazing!! Thank you so much for taking us along! I knew about the breed - and I am so excited to see you experience and ride it! And in Japan - well, there is a lot perfect (including the food 😂). The ending clips made me laugh 😂
Just here to tell you that you have a HUGE 2 year old fan from Vermont who was thrilled to see a new video! Thanks for your work. We love your videos!!
Just discovered the kisouma today after googling for when horses were introduced to Japan and they are adorable! Very jealous of you meeting them. I'm too old now to travel and go back to Japan and see them, or more of my mum's homeland. Such a shame so many breeds were discouraged in the early 20th century as larger breeds were desired for "modern" warfare. You're very lucky to have had and to be having the adventure to visit so many places and seeing the amazing diversity of horses and human cultures which they were raised alongside.
Alyssa, Another wonderful video, the horses were interesting, the stirrups was very different, but I can see how that would give more control when shooting a bow. Thank you for taking time to film, edit and post this video.
Thank you for making this video! It's because of hearing of it first here, that I visited Kiso Uma no Sato just yesterday. It's beautiful now blanketed in snow.
I was just researching Japanese horses because of an upcoming article about the horses in Ghost of Tsushima, so your videos on the Kiso and Taishu horses come at the best possible time!!
I love them! Interesting remark that every pony wanted to visit with you. This innate curiosity/interest in anything novel, including people (as opposed to vigilance or standoffishness with strangers) is actually a genetic trait. There have been some really interesting studies of equine behavioral genetics coming out of Japan and Korea. The native pony breeds have variants of a dopamine receptor gene that produce high curiosity behavior. Conversely, about half of Japanese Thoroughbreds studied had a variant of the same gene associated with vigilant behavior. A genetic testing company actually offer a test for this gene!
A great Episode👍 Can you please make a video about the achal teke. These is such an amazing horse breed, but on the internet ther are not much information.
I’ve enjoyed every video, and this one is particularly interesting. I’ve never heard of this breed. Thank you for sharing all your wild rides around the world.
This is amazing!! I love horses and love Japan, but haven't heard of the kisouma before! Probably saw them but never knew how they were called xD Also, I love archery! I need to go there omg hahah
Thankyou so much for your programmes, so lovely to see the different cultures and horses. I'm old now but I worked professionally with horses-mostly racehorses, flat and over jumps- and I miss that so much. By the way, you ride beautifully
I love your videos. They are entertaining and educational. I'm always happy to find a new video. Thank you for sharing your experiences. Greetings from Germany
Like your videos very much. On my channel, too, everything is about horses. But we have a lot of horses, so the conditions for them are not as good as we would like. But we love them.
They look like a heavier set welsh sec c /exmoor. It's really interesting how breeds have been developed in similar aspects independently of one another. The bay mare you rode looks a hell of a lot like the Sec C I used to ride a lot. It looks like the Kisouma are a bit more heavier set in that respect.
Wonderful Mission! I subscribed & I am curious about all the other videos & those that are coming in the future 😊 Großartig deine Mission! Ich habe deinen Kanal abonniert und freue mich schon auf weitere Videos 😊
Do you have ANY idea how jealous i am of you? (probably because I say that all the time) This video combines the two greatest loves of my life: Horses and Japanese culture. (NOT just anime....) I sent this to a friend of mine going "SHE'S IN JAPAN NOW. UN.FAIR!"
Sounds like a trip to Japan should be in your future! ☺️ My Quest was just a dream and a crazy idea for decades. Then, finally I started with a borrowed camera and saved up enough money to take the first trip, (my family and friends volunteered to help film!) I'm so glad you are enjoying the videos! I would be happy to share travel tips and contacts for Japan horse adventures when you need them! 🤗
Are they ponies or horses? There are physiological differences, like the Icelandic horse being a horse and not a pony. These guys were lovely to see. So big despite being short!
In the 19th century, people of my country 🇳🇱, were the only Europeans allowed to live in Japan. They lived on an artificial island in the bay of Nagasaki, named Deshima /Decima or something like that.
Yes, the leg pressure and reins are the same. The only difference is in voice commands. It's similar to how dogs don't understand "sit" in every language, but will understand to stay nearby on leash
I'm not real hopeful this horse won't wind up on a dinner plate sooner or later. We ship them to Japan for their various menus. That's what happened to Ferdinand and Exceller. Thank you for a good video. Maybe a RARE breed may last there a little longer-no others do.
WHY,...!!!!! WEAR A FACEMASK!!! EVERYONE KNOWES BY NOW THAT IS VERY UNHEALTHY EN DOES NOT PREVENT ANYTHING!!!! I am really very very disapointed to see this.
Alyssa is a guest at each facility that she visits and will observe whatever safety requirements they have. I don't know the specific situation in this video, however, I suspect the mask wearing was done out of respect for or because of specific safety considerations for the people she was interviewing.
@@shawntisdell i understand . But by now complying to something damaging to ones health should be over. Do not forget that we all have to give a good healthy example,!
I wear a very good mask when cleaning out my aviaries and chicken coops as it's such a dusty job and I do not want to end up with bird keepers lung. The mask definitely works to keep out the dust. Some people who get hayfever find wearing masks very beneficial to keep their allergies under control. Multiple studies prove that masks prevent or at least slow down the spread of airborne diseases. Just because you don't like them doesn't mean they are ineffective and just because certain studies have been (possibly deliberately for political reasons) misinterpreted doesn't distract from the multitude of evidence that masks do in fact work.
Thank you for protecting the horses from Covid by wearing a mask! Gotta follow the science amirite. Also that poor little horse didn’t appreciate your gravitational pull.
Such a lovely video, but an adult shouldn't ride a Shetland anymore as they should only carry 15-20% of their own bodyweight! They can pull much more but not carry.
🌟Have you heard of the Kisouma?🌟
In have, but never ridden one, so lucky you!
I never heard of the breed. The archers looked so graceful shooting their bow and arrow.
Nope. But now I want a trio! There aren't many left, and if a Kiso equals a horseback archery pony, I'm here for it!
Such a nice head and eyes 👍
In witch material are the wa abumi? So special. The Warriors are like the native americans.🥰

Thank you so much!
