2011 Ford Escape Front Subframe Replacement Needed (ROTTED OUT)

  • North east Ohio and well the air conditioning drain have claimed another Ford subframe! Welcome to part 1 of many (if requested). I plan to do a timing job, oil pan and improve the design of the evaporator box drain in the next video. The car runs great and the rear wheel wells are totally fine still, so being that the price of new vehicles is crazy right now we're going to fix it up a bit. Also this is the Limited 3.0L V-6 so it's not too shabby inside. Thanks for watching!

    I have about 200,000 miles on my 2006 Escape. While I was replacing the front seals and oil pan gasket, I found that rusted subframe. I was able to stop all the leaks which is encouraging. You have further encouraged me to go ahead and replace the subframe. Good video. You are good at it.

    I love the escape. We own a 2009 with the 4 cylinder, and I just bought a 2010 Limited 4wd 6 cylinder. Just spent $2k to fix the rust on the rear frame of the 09, so yeah, even though it's more than the car is worth, it's still worth it to us rather than buy something else that's not worth what we'd pay for it. At least we know what we have, and we know what we're in for down the road. I fully expect to replace the PTU on the '10, and we're going to have to fix the rust on the bottom of the tailgate. Former owner installed a push button starter bypass rather than replace the ignition switch assembly. Not sure if we'll leave it as is or spend the $50 for the part and endure the hassle of doing the replacement. Also purchased a new Motorcraft battery harness due to corrosion of the factory harness resulting in an intermittent 16.2v voltage spike. Installation won't be fun, but it is what it is. Subframe looks good at the moment, but that's definitely on the watchlist as we live in northeast PA. 170k miles on the 2010, 140K on the 09.
    Love your video, keep on making them.
    Our 2001 Excursion with the 7.3 is going to need some attention soon as well. :)

    My wife has a 2010 2.5l escape. In-laws have 2014 1.6 turbo. The 2010 is so much more reliable. 160k miles and still running strong. Only annoying thing with the 2010 had a transmission axle race/ bearing that scored at 60k miles and caused a leak. There was a TSB about it and it wasn’t warrantied.

    Just checked my 2011 and there's no rust in that spot. I live in the South. It's a shame this is happening to some people because these model year Escapes are great snow cars - high clearance, large size tires, and 4WD on a lot of models. Does salt on the roads really help with snow? Because it completely destroys cars, so there ought to be a tradeoff, maybe its not worth it. I understand that protection like Fluid Film can help a lot with rust prevention, might be worth looking into since a new part was installed.

    • @unorthodoxridez
      @unorthodoxridez  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      We fluid film everything here, I'm a big advocate for proper snow tires. Problem seems to be the people who run bald summer tires year round so they have to salt the roads heavily for the unprepared.

    My first Ford, 2012 Escape. They all seem to rust in the same places though.

      I'm convinced it's the AC box drain constantly dripping water on that spot when the AC is running

    I have a 2008 in Michigan it has 231000 miles on it. My wife got a 2013. We put more $ in to that car than any other vehicle we've owned.

      08-12 was a far superior vehicle imo.

    Why is the right side and not the left side rusting out? Can we get Ford to replace this in a 2006 escape?

    • @unorthodoxridez
      @unorthodoxridez  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The air conditioning box drains on to the passenger side of the subframe and eventually it rots out. I'm going to create a fix for this The car is almost done and there will be a long recap video. As I couldn't film replacing it or doing the timing job because of time constraints.

    In the video you stated that the subframe connector part costs about $550 to get. Can you recommend where to get it for that price? We wanted to pick up the part soon. Thank you

    Everyone here is begging for an 'install' vid that you promised three months ago. You talk about it but I see no evidence that you actually did this job.
    I want to know about the rack gear and center engine mount. What's the difference between the 4 and 6 cylinder procedures.

    • @unorthodoxridez
      @unorthodoxridez  ปีที่แล้ว

      👍 4 cylinder is easiest of the two. We've been helping out with a wedding in the family. I'll post an update today but the full recap is going to be done in the end of October.

      It is possible if you extend the AC drain to drain past the subframe or away from it I'm going to do that it'll be in the next video
