    I’ve enjoyed poking around your channel as I’ve found myself using a pencil again for the first time in a couple decades. Kuru togas are hard to give up but I bought a ballpoint 600 and boy does that shape feel satisfying. I used to LOVE the SumoGrip, QuickerClicker, and Dr Grip stuff. Honorable mention to a Sanford Spike I had in elementary school that was just incredible for 4th grader tactile skills. The Tombow Zoom always felt like a precision tool when i was younger. Thanks for the content.
    Currently cycling between a mono graph and kurutoga roulette. The Kerry is fun too.

    For someone that likes extra features as much as you do, I'm impressed by how consistently the Pentel 200 line has appeared on your Top Mechpens list. That's huge credit to them, for sure.
    I really like the basic Sharp -too, for larger lead gauges; for smaller ones (0,5 and 0,3) I'm loving the GraphGear 500.- for everything. The Sharp 0.5 fits my hand better than the GraphGear, and so does the Orenz 0.3 (basically a Sharp in form factor and handling).

    think it’s perfectly ok for your list not to change much from last year: my collection of mechanical pencils is gradually expanding!: have Pentel Orenz 0.2mm on the way, mine doesn’t have all the bulky knurled grip stuff but am looking forward to it!; my favourite is still the Mitsubishi uni m5-452 with the black plastic grip unscrewed as I prefer the appearance and hold it further back anyway, close second place goes to my lovely Pentel p205 - thanks for introducing me to this:)

    I have used a Pentel Twist Erase 0.5 for perhaps 15 years? (time flys!) The lead feed has never failed and the large twist out non-abrasive eraser works well and lasts through nearly any project. It has been the ideal working pencil. It does everything well. Once I started using mine, I never reached for my more fancy ones. Cheers.

      LOL. Great suggestion. And I'll take that suggestion as a compliment! What is a "myth" we could do? NASA criticized the Soviets heavily for sending pencils to space instead of pens because of graphite dust. That would be a tough one for me to test! The other classic is getting stabbed by a pencil is "dangerous," but we encounter two problems: 1) modern pencil leads are graphite and clay, not lead, 2) I'm not stabbing myself for you. ;P

    Don‘t let you get fooled of mispronouncing Rotring. As a German I can confirm your way of saying it to be perfectly fine. One would understand it even in a complete sentence of speaking German this way. Just as a funfact: we have german dialects using the rolling R natively like some areas in Siegerland and in Vogtland.
    So, you are doing great.
    Please continue your great talking about pencils. Thanks for having you.

    I noticed that several of these are so-called drafting pencils while others are more general use. I tend to write two-to-three pages at a time in pencil (all text, some boxes and arrows) when working on a project then transfer things over to my computer. Would you provide the same rankings for the pencils listed in the video if the intention is to write text and not create graphics or diagrams? For example, I have a Staedtler 925 25-13 with a knurled grip and while it feels fine during the first page of writing, by the time I finish page two or three the sides of my fingers are irritated. I would love your input, or maybe this would make a good separate video? Thanks for all you do to educate about mechanical pencils!

    • @ClutchSituation
      @ClutchSituation  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It is so individualized that a video ranking for a particular purpose would feel disingenuous to me. Can you define your irritation? Does it feel like the pencil is "biting" into or "scratching" your fingers? You don't NEED a drafting sleeve, correct?

    • @zombiepandasoup
      @zombiepandasoup ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@ClutchSituation Thanks for your reply - I’m a fairly aggressive writer, trying to keep my writing up with my thoughts. As a result I grip the pencil pretty tightly and deal with a lot of broken lead (which is why I always go with .07 and .09 lead). No, I suppose I don’t need a drafting sleeve. Do you have any recommendations?

  • @Knightice765
    @Knightice765 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I think the Pentel Sharp 200 series are the best mechanical pencils overall. For me the price is very important and unless the pencil is going to write or draw for you, I dont see a reason to buy a mechanical pencils over $100. The Rotring 600 is the most comfortable MP for me but its not that much of a difference to a Pentel Sharp which is also great to right with.

    • @DinnerForkTongue
      @DinnerForkTongue 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      For me the Pentel Sharp is a baseline, and a pretty darn high bar to clear. The only pencil I like distinctly better is the GraphGear 500, because of its balance point, and even then mostly for smaller lead gauges.
      Then again, I don't have many mechpens, so take my words with a bit of skepticism.

    Do you have a standard benchmark for clutch slip resistance pressure? What pressure do you think is sufficient? I've tested a few vintage pencils and the clutch can't even hold 1/2-lb or 0.25-kg of pressure before the lead slides back in. My favorite so far can resist over 1kg or 2-lb of pressure.
