Honestly, this is easily one the most resourceful videos I've seen on YT ever. I find so many cut it short. light on details, forcing everyone to ask all these q?s in the comments section. This is great: you showed footprint, you plugged it in, tested configs... I literally got all my answers. BTW, I find it super interesting that this video is titled w/ the Mac in mind, yet all these PC laptop questions in the comments. So weird. Anyhow, cheers dood.
For everyone facing this issue. it's not a fault with the dock. Apple decided not to support MST (Multi stream transport) which is necessary for DP protocols to power multiple monitors. But there's a workaround for Mac's that would let you use two monitors (Intel Macs and M Pro/Max chips only, physical limitation on M chips, non pro/max ones). One of the monitors should go into the DP/DP over USB-C/HDMI port and the other monitor should essentially be connected to the Thunderbolt-3 port on the farther side of the dock (not the other type C with DP on it), this way one monitor is powered using Thunderbolt-3 (you can use a Type-C to DP cable) and the other one to the native display output pin.
Best Source of information for Mac thunderbolt docking stations in the web. I don't care about sd card slots or read speeds I want multiple monitors on my macbook pro 2019 😤
@00:50 "safety first", five seconds later... @00:56 "safety? we don't need those things" while throwing the safety doc away. The quickest change of mind I've seen 😄. Despite, thank you for the cool and informative video 👍
Its worth noting that the 2x display port arent really full ports, they are just two halves of the multilink displayport. What that means is if you want to run 2x4k@60Hz monitors, you will need to put one monitor on one of the display port sockets, and the other you will have to get a TB to DisplayPort cable, and plug it into the passthrough TB socket.
I must get a Dell dock for work related reasons. I have 2 4K monitors. Should I get the WD 19 or the WD 19TB? Would appreciate your thoughts as from the view offered herein, it looks like the WD19 works very well, I am just not sure if it can support 2 4K monitors
So glad I just saw this as I was about to buy a this dock on eBay for a MBpro and two external monitors so you have just saved me from a disappointment.🖖
Great video; thanks so much. its OCT 2022 now, so I'm not sure if any drivers have come out to solve the problem, however, I wanted to mention that I got away with it by connecting it on three different ports for three different monitors. Thanks again!!
Great review, love the enthusiasm. Question: have you ever had issues with slow internet speeds while using the dock? Getting 250mb/s when it should be 1Gb/s
Thanks very much @dailybatman, I try not to be too boring to listen to. To answer your question not really, however usually its due to external factors that could cause slow network speeds, not usually related to dock hardware. Factors that could cause slower then expected speeds would be older or damaged network cables, limitations set by switches and routers. I even had recent incident where massive speed different using different browsers on the same computer and turns out it was the organisation proxy limiting particular browser type speed.
A note on the 130W charging capabilities mentioned in this video: this only applies if you have a Dell system that has 130W charging; for non-Dell systems it only supports 90W power delivery.
Has this issue been resolved by apple or dell for MacBook Pro? This video is 3yr old and After 3 yrs I am facing same issue. What a pity. Thanks for making the detailed video.
The only way to use 2 monitors in macbook is connecting a usbcxhdmi dongle to dock’s usbc output. So you are going to connect an hdmi cable in the dongle and another video cable to dock’s videooutput. You don’t need to install any displaylink driver.
Hey, I recent;y purchased one of these used. It works fine with my Intel i9 MacBook Pro but my M1 MacBook Air has some issues. I have connected my 24 inch FHD BenQ monitor via HDMI port and the screen doesn’t work, it comes on for about 5 seconds and goes black. The display settings in macOS system preferences detect the external monitor but the monitor doesn’t show any image. Like I said before, the dock functions as expected on my intel mac, so I know the connections and cables are fine. If there is a solution to this, please let me know.
Can you use the thunderbolt 3 port on the back as the primary connection to computer? The reason I ask is because I want to position the dock further away from the computer than the dock's hardwired cable allows. And I can't seem to find a TB3/USB4 extension cable anywhere! (at least one longer than 6 inches)
Hi Stretch, thanks for this really good question. I was curious and tested this out myself on the WD19TB and can report that if you plug in a Power+data thunderbolt 3 cable to the back thunderbolt port on the WD19TB it "WILL NOT" make the dock work, it won't charge nor will it pass through USB or ethernet or display ports to the computer, therefore the thunderbolt port at the back of the dock is not an upstream thunderbolt port. So you must use the hardwired USB-C cable on the WD19TB. Sorry unable to find a solution for your situation.
Thanks very much danar j, as much I like to get quick more subs but in the land of TH-cam its quite a harsh place but that's okay I have accepted the pace and will do what I do normally in my life, just take it slow and build a solid and sturdy foundation =) thanks for the sub and I hope we will learn together in our journey.
Great video. I have two laptops. Dell latitude 7390 (no Thunderbolt) and XPS 15 9570 (thunderbolt3) . I was wondering if the WD19TB will work fine with the latitude which doesn't have a thunderbolt port. Will it support dual 4K setup and would the dock damage the batteries which do not need 130W of power supply? Thanks as always for the great videos .
Phenomenal Video!!!! BRILLIANT!!! I I must get a Dell dock for work related reasons. I have (2) 4K monitors. Should I get the WD19, WD19S (either 90W or 130W) (no audio jack?) or the WD19TB or WD 19TBS. So sorry all these names are difficult to track!! My work issued laptop is a Latitude 5420. The compatibility chart re docking stations from Dell says WD19/19s are supported and that WD 19TB/TBS is recommended. Which of these docks will give the resolution for (2) 4k Monitors? Thanks in advance!!! (Thinking ahead- my future laptop will probably be a lightening cable laptop.) I am also having a hard time understanding whether my Latitude 5420 is thunderbolt or not because it has (two Thunderbolt 4 port with DisplayPort Alt Mode/USB4/Power Delivery). I would appreciate your help to clarify!!!!
Hi @belle mm, if you are looking to run dual 4k monitors then only the WD19TB and WD19TBS is what you are after. The non-WD19 can only go 2k for dual monitors. As for which to go WD19TB vs WD19TBS its practically the same dock just S version has no headphone jack that's it. The Latitude 5420 has thunderbolt 4, it doesn't look like you can get a non-Thunderbolt version of the USB-C port on them so that will save you research on that. You can refer to this dell page on the WD19TBS on the 4k support for the different number of monitor configuration, www.dell.com/support/manuals/en-au/dell-wd19tbs-dock/wd19tbs_user_guide/display-resolution-table?guid=guid-cb54f38b-163a-41bf-8b2e-3e6f3835d2ea&lang=en-us . I hope this helps clarify and assist in the search for a docking solution for you.
@@BsianTech WOW! Thank you so much for your detailed response. It is very helpful. I appreciate your honest and candid reviews! Quick follow up question and suggestion. As between DP versus HDMI, which do you prefer for 4K monitors? And, with the ever changing ports and the use of the words USB-C and Thunderbolt, and the endless USB 3.0 and Gen 1 Gen 2 etc. etc. Could you please consider doing a "Ports, Connectors & Cables" video? Thank you for the excellent reviews, and for breaking it down in way that makes sense!
I have two hdmi only monitors.. one monitor I connect it with hdmi(monitor) to hdmi(WD19TB).. and the other one is hdmi(Monitor) to type C(WD19TB) note: I have cable with hdmi to USB typeC . why it doesnt work? is it needed to be my monitor to be Type C?
Just a clarification that the Dell Thunderbolt docks will only deliver 130w of power to Dell computers. For other computers it will only deliver 90w of power (to keep within the Thunderbolt specification).
Great video, but i have two questions. 1. I have notebook Precision 5540, Dell dock station WD19TB and the Desktop PC. I've plugged my monitors and input devices into Dockstation and connect dockstation to notebook via Thunderbolt. Works great but if i need my Desktop PC than i should replug all cables to PC which is pain everytime. I've already spend almost 400$ on dockstation and dont want expensive solution atm. My PC doesnt have Type-C/Thunderbolt port so i cant unplug dockstation from notebook and plug into PC. The question: is there some PCIe card with Thunderbolt port/USB-C that can used for connecting with dockstation and can transfer power and etc. from PC to dockstation, monitors and take input info from mouse and keyboard which are connect to dockstation? Or do i even need PCIe? May be there is easier solution, some cable smth like VGA to type-c port for connecting to dockstation? So in the end of the day i can just plug/unplug 1 cable between 2 systems. 2. If there are no any solution from question 1. what is the cheapest KVM for my solution?
Somehow this is exactly what I was looking for, a WD19TB with a Macbook Pro. I'm only looking to drive one screen so I don't have to worry about the issue you had, but it's good to know how it works before I drop the money for it.
Hi Glogsplat, welcome to my videos, before you drop some serious money at this have a look at a OWC thunderbolt 3 dock I have been recommended these work far better with Macs in mind. They were pretty expensive but this WD19TB is actually more expensive then the OWC so I do suggest to have a look at that.
@@BsianTech Thanks for the recommendation. Just looked into it, it does certainly seem like a better device for Mac to use straight out of the box, especially considering the prices are so similar. Dell is having a sale on the WD19TB right now putting it down to $372.75 so it is cheaper right now than it usually is. Did you have many issues setting up your Mac to work with the WD19TB or any other Dell docks or was it a relatively smooth process overall?
@@glogsplat Oh if it is on sale atm then the WD19TB be a good alternative. As the video shows it works straight out of the box if you just using one external monitor. We still waiting for Displaylink to update the drivers for the mac to try make it work more than one monitor for the mac.
Just wonder, does it support extra 3 monitors except laptop screen? or only in Mac OS? I tried with Windows10, but I could do only 2 monitors maximum except laptop screen :/
My M1 MBP stopped charging after a few weeks being connected to this dock. The dock works if I connect the Apple Charger directly to the mac. Power is drawn from the Apple Charger and all of the ports on the dock work except for Power Deliver. Does it still work for you? If yes, do I need to do something?
This still works fine for me for a number of years which is how I am charging the M1 Max MBP. I haven't use the Apple charger for a while now, only when I am travelling interstate when I use the supplied Apple charger to charge up my MBP.
Hi , Thanks for the video. I have a question: I bought 1.Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 7390 i7-1065G7 16GB RAM Intel Graphics 512GB SSD FHD , 2. 2 AOC 27G2 Monitors Could you please suggest the good and cheap Docking station ? Regards Raj
Hi Raj, welcome to my videos. The Dell WD19TB will work perfect with the XPS 7390 but as you know it can be a costly dock. Have a look at the CalDigit USB-C Pro Dock, should be a number of reviews on it already and it does have two DisplayPorts on that dock ready for dual monitor setups =) and is pretty well priced too. Hope that can help your search.
@@BsianTech , Hey I am back , finally bought Caldigit Thunderbolt Mini Dock (2 HDMI Ports) from Amazon seller @200 AUD. Connected to Two AOC 27G2 monitors and the monitors are flickering. Not happy with the product , do they give refund for opened item?
@@sri2415 If just one monitor is flickering in and out slowly, check the HDMI cable, might be sign of bad cable. Other thing to try is to bring up or down the refresh rate of the monitor in the display settings in windows. As for refunds you will have to contact the seller there I'm afraid.
Good video - thank you. I've just taken delivery of the New XPS 15 laptop and want to use it to power 2 - 4K monitors... would you suggest the WD19TB is the very best dock for this? Also... buying this dock through Dell seems VERY expensive and it doesn't (currently) seem available on Amazon and so is there an alternative (cheaper) place to buy? PS. Thank you for all your helpful videos :-)
Wow congratz on the new XPS 15 it should be amazing powerful I have been eyeing on it myself, you going to enjoy it! As for pairing it with the WD19TB it will be great as it is one of the supported docks on their site. I agree this dock is very expensive my suggestion's are to do a search for your local computer stores around you. In Australia I found our computer stores selling it for AU$350-400 which is cheaper than Dell Australia RRP$495. I use this site a lot in australia which compares pricing for computer stores in australia staticice.com.au
@@YourFirstFourHouses Cnoyes72 has mention to becareful on buying Dell products outside of their authorized Dell retailers as there are grey market items which won't carry Dell warranty.
Hey man amazing review! I'm confused on the power button on the dock. What does it do if it you couldn't actually get it functioning? Also you think the battery or something will overheat if I don't unplug or somehow turn off the dock thru the power button? Thanks!
Hi @Anmol Thiara welcome to my videos. Thanks for the feedback. The power button on the dock mirrors the same function your power button does on the laptop (provided it is a supported model, most cases it will) eg. if you have set your power button on your laptop to sleep in Windows then the power button on the dock will do the same. Most laptop batteries for the last decade won't overheat (if it isn't a faulty battery) if it is constantly plugged into the dock even if it is shutdown or running as most laptop batteries have smart charging built into it. Hope that helps your questions =).
Hi buddy, what’s exactly model of your MacBook Pro? I have a 2019 16” with GPU Radeon and my D6000 Dock Stadion doesn’t works in clamshell mode! ☹️ Do you have some advise? Tks!
Unfortuntely no @Dr. Alok Kumar Singh, look for Universial docks like the Dell D3100, D6000 or Lenovo ThinkPad Hybrid USB-C with USB-A Dock that will support laptop that only have USB-A ports.
Great video, well done. If only you closed the laptop sooner, and booted it with one connected via the USB-c port on the dock... One on Display pot, one on HDMI.. I think you will see the MacBook run three external monitors. Love your work man. Respect ‘
Hi ಠ_ಠ, welcome to my videos, thanks for the feedback. I just recently did a follow up video on it with the Macbook Pro, th-cam.com/video/zaklZRFzKLo/w-d-xo.html . Hopefully you might understand a little from it. Non-thunderbolt ports on the dock it will only support one at any given time for display for extended desktop which is limitation on the MacOSX I have been told. Thank you for the support mate I hope I can be of value to you in the future videos as well =).
Do we know which DisplayLink SOC the Dell Dock is using ? That information will show limitations and possible capabilities. www.displaylink.com/integrated-chipsets/dl-6000
Hi BsianDad. Thank you for your videos! I have purchased a dell latitude 5500 laptop and a WD19TB dock. I would like to connect two external monitors to the laptop. Both my external monitors have DVI input. I have connected the monitors to the dock using a DVI to displayport cable for both external monitors but have not been successful. Specifically, only one external monitor is recognized at a time. When both are connected, no external monitor is recognized. I have attempted using a DVI to hdmi cable for one external monitor and a DVI to displayport cable for the other and that did not help either. Where am I going wrong? TIA
I have the WD19TBS and I am having trouble connecting two monitors two my macbook pro. Is there any fix? I can only mirror screens and not extend... same as you... have you found a fix by now?
So you need to connect the second monitor to the back thunderbolt port on the WD19TBS, you might need a convertor from DisplayPort or HDMI to USB-C. So one monitor via normal DP or HDMI to back of Dock and second monitor via the thunderbolt port on the Dock. The USB-C port at the front of the WD19TBS is not thunderbolt port just to let you know.
I was able to make two external DELL monitors work (DP & HDMI with Dongle) with the Mac book pro (touch bar). The monitor with DP cable goes into 1 of the DP ports and the monitor with HDMI (with a dongle) goes into the usb-c port in the back that has power icon on the docking station. I did not directly connect the HDMI cable to the docking station. If i do that it gives mirror display on the monitors.
The 2018 MBP touchbar was Intel chip. With an apple silicon MBP yes it will work just make sure the second monitor must go through the thunderbolt port on the side back USB-C port. If you don't have a native USB-C/thunderbolt monitor for second monitor you can use an adapter from HDMI to USB-C or Displayport to USB-C.
Hi Jack Zhang, first off just comparing the non-thunderbolt versions of the docks which is the WD15 and WD19 only. Boiling it down to the major real difference if you don't compare the different types of ports both have for monitors if you are running any 4K monitor get the WD19 it will have proper support due to the port performance increase where as the WD15 will only support a single 4K @ 30Hz via the miniDisplayport or HDMI. I hope that helps.
Could you boot up your Macbook only by pressing the power button on the docking station? Or do you know if this is even possible with a Macbook? That would be a really nice feature 😊
Hi Mads Bødstrup the power button on the docking station unfortunately won't mirror the power button off your macbook which is such a pity =( so it won't be able to boot up your macbook by pressing the power button on the WD19TB.
Great review, thanks! Does the WD19TB (or just the WD19) charge the Mac too? If so, could it potentially be damaging to the Mac's battery or electronics?
Hi Jon Burden thanks for the feedback, the WD19TB or even the WD19 will charge the MBP13 properly, the MBP15 and MBP16 will be on slow charge. To my own knowledge it won't be potentially damaging to the batteries. If they do then Apple has placed more restrictions on their products.
@@triphh the WD19TB will be better in your case, the USB-C on your Dell 7000 hasn't got thunderbolt enabled then go with the WD19 dock that work for non-thunderbolt laptops plus it will be cheaper too.
Hi, good job on the video. I got a WD19TB to work with my MacBook pro, but it seems like the power bottom is not working as anything. Also the power bottom LED is not flashing. Any solutions you know to fix this?
Thanks Bsian, I was able to connect my 2 monitors as-well using USB-c to HDMI cable (Working only for MAC) however, Windows PC doesn't work with that. To resolve Windows issue I got Display port to HDMI cable to use it and it worked fine over windows but not over MAC. I doubt there is alternate solution where one cable can work for both PC and MAC, if there is please let me know :)
I have an inspiron 7000 with TB3 and a old desktop with a standard USB C port - I want a set up where I can share 2 1080P monitors though it. Do you reckon that'll work? Sounds like from the Latitude test at the end, you need TB3 to get display?
Thanks Marcelo, at least the WD19TB has three monitor display where as the TB16 only was able to to display one external monitor. Would really think it would be driver issue more than anything since hardware proved it can do mirroring to three monitors was my thoughts.
The audio both in and output works fine from the WD19TB through the MacBook if that what you are asking. I regularly had headphones connected and also used the zoom calls via the WD19TB dock when I was a Mac user
@@BsianTech Thank you! That was exactly what I was afraid of cause I found a document on Dells website that stated some shortcomings when it's used with a Mac. But everything seems fine to me. I might get the WD19TB or the Belkin dock now. Only depends on the price.
I have a new dell xps 13 9300 (2x thunderbolt3 ports), but I cannot use this dock. I need a longer (active) thunderbolt cable, and this dock does not provide that option.
This dock will work in your situation, I am currently doing that right now, I have a Dell XPS 15 9500 connected to WD19TB with a Dell 34"monitor, I've connected triple external monitors (all running 60Hz) to this setup no problems.
Windows yes, macbook no, max is two external monitors. It is limitation of the macosx that doesn't support MST. If it is a macbook M1, it is only single external monitor support again blame on Apple for not supporting it.
Hey there got a question, my dell xps 13 is the 9360 which has a very crappy intel graphics and can only do 1080. If i get this dock , does this dock act like a external graphics card per say to boost my monitors to better quality? thanks
A better dock to use with the macbook would be Other World Computing's Thunderbolt 3 Dock (made specifically for macs). Also, be wary of buying Dell products outside of authorized dell retailers. I learned the hard way that Dell will not warranty (or even recognize the service tag) such products (I bought a dell tb16 on amazon; it appears to have been a grey market item. Lesson learned and now I have a perfectly functioning wd19tb it it's place).
I have been told to check out the OWC tb3 dock and it looks good. A lot of people looking for cheaper alternative docks for the Macbook but with the high price of the WD19TB it makes OWC tb3 a lot better now. I didn't know about there was grey market Dell products out there as we have only purchased through Dell directly but definitely good to know the information and will pass that information to others as well, thanks. Were you able to get the TB16 looked at in the end?
@@cnoyes72 that's so lucky and good that Amazon was able to protect buyers =), at least not too much money was lost just time and effort for the lesson.
I've manage to upload the video for a revisit of this with using the thunderbolt port on the dock. You can find it here: th-cam.com/video/zaklZRFzKLo/w-d-xo.html
I have Dell xps 7595 with dock WD19TB : This product is not stable, when I connect it to my xps does not work the first time, I have to connect and disconnect several times to make it work but sometimes I have to restart my machine, Dell support changed me the dock, and also the motherboard twice without any changes I still have the same problem.
I have a WD19 with my dell work computer. Is there a way to use a Mac Air 2017 with only a thunderbolt 2 port? I have already tried a usb-c to USB adapter and just got mouse and keyboard with no display. What kind of converters would I need? Thank you for your help.
Hi Travis Sherman, so the USB Keyboard and mouse plug into any normal USB-A port on the dock. It's the monitor that needs to be connected to any of the Displayport or HDMI port at the back. No need to connect to the USB-C port unless you have usb-c input monitor.
BsianDad thank you for your response. I’m still a little confused. So the USB-A adapter was to convert the Dell Dock ( USB-C )so I can plug it in to the laptop, since my MacBook Air doesn’t have a thunderbolt 3. The monitor is plugged into the dock via HDMI. I have downloaded DisplayLink and with this setup I can control mouse and keyboard but still have no display.
got a question i will be getting my ps 15 7590 soon. Currently i have a matebook x pro with two 24' 1080p external monitors (extended) setup. If i buy this dock, can i export to two external monitors? or simply just connect one to hdmi on notebook and one connect to an adapter will do?
Hi Andy leung, welcome to my videos. Both of the computers you mention shouldn’t have issues displaying dual extended 1080p @ 60hz monitor via the dock. Just make sure you plug the dock into the thunderbolt port on the matebook x Pro, it should be the USB-C port that’s furthest away from the headphone jack. One the new XPS 7590 there is only one so no confusion there.
Are you or anyone having any issue with this dock causing the Dell XPS 15 (I have 7590) to throttle the cpu to 0.78 GHz when charging through the dock and TB? Dell has replaced my mother board twice, cooling system, and WD19TB once and nothing has changed...
Your very welcome Vasily Obmanov, most laptop will behave the same with this dock, lid open or close. The power button should mirror your power button on your laptop unless it is a Macbook.
@@vasilyobmanov650 Shouldn't be a problem for your laptop to get all the interface working just remember to plug the dock into the thunderbolt port at the back of the laptop and not the USB-C port on the side. The other thing I would be worried about only for the dock is it might not have enough power to charge your Alienware R5 as your laptop will more than likely pull more than the 90W as it isn't an official supported hardware if it was it would be 130W. The WD19DC can do 240W being dual cables but again official supported systems. As I'm not sure the configuration and your power adapter you have, more than likely even if you have the WD19TB plugged in you will still require to plug your normal power adapter to the laptop to charge it properly.
I'm interested in buying it. Can it work with an audio interface? I need to connect it with Focusrite 2i2, and I'm a bit concern about whether it will work or not
Dude, this is a thunderbolt dock. It does not have a displaylink chip in it. Displaylink drivers are useless here. And of course it won't work with a non-thunderbolt laptop! You are very confused.
Hi Rafik Fares, you have asked an extremely fantastic question and I am completely unsure as I don't own an eGPU to test and explore connecting it to a dock to see how that performs. I will ask Dell directly so stay tune on the reply.
Is the MBP a Intel chip or M1 that you have? If it is Intel then just need to make sure the second monitor is connected to the thunderbolt port of the WD19TB you can use an adapter if need be from DP to USB-C or HDMI to USB-C. If it is M1 chip I'm afraid I am still searching for the answer for it to natively support dual extended monitor.
This is not a DisplayLink dock. It uses native DP/HDMI over TB3 link, which means it depends only on capabilities of connected system. If you're not able to use all 3 outputs as separate screens then it's a OS X issue, not the dock (it clearly detects and enables all outputs).
Hi Marcin Jaworski, thank you for the comment and explanation. Dell actually approached me to explain this as well which was absolutely fantastic. These videos I make is also a learning experience for me too which I love. After Dell contacted me I made a follow up video on the Dell WD19TB with the MBP. Hi rishi ray, I made a video for the WD19 (non-thunderbolt version) and near the end I demonstrate the dock with MBP (th-cam.com/video/h7jAVlBCNAA0/w-d-xo.html ). You can only get one external screen working in extended mode, regardless of lid open or close.
Based on dell support doc for WD19TB here: topics-cdn.dell.com/pdf/dell-wd19tb-dock_users-guide3_en-us.pdf it supports non-thunderbolt usb-c with displayport alt mode, including Latitude 7480. I'm wondering why you don't get a signal at the end. Maybe try to contact Dell support?

@@aydinjalilov2328 the WD19TB will charge the X1 Extreme Gen 2 but it might pop up a warning message saying it is on slow charge. As for drivers for the Mac, it isn't required. The drivers are for Audio and Ethernet which naively worked on the Mac for the dock.

Phew glad I watched this before buying one! Thanks mate!
Welcome are you getting a dock for a macbook pro?
Same results with my dock station and my Macbook ...

Great video; thanks so much. its OCT 2022 now, so I'm not sure if any drivers have come out to solve the problem, however, I wanted to mention that I got away with it by connecting it on three different ports for three different monitors.
Thanks again!!
Have you ever had issues with slow Ethernet speeds while using the dock?
my friend, you´re videos are amazing thanks for the information and the extra tests on Mac, you saved my life :D regards from Mexico

You saved me a bucket of money. Thank you!
This is the only video I have found debunking/confirming the fact that my WD19 dock can only connect with 1 monitor. Thank you!
I was able to use two external monitors with the WD19TB (did not try with 3 monitors) but I used a regular Dell notebook, not a MacBook

Super helpful review mate thankyou
Very welcome @Warwick Peatling, I will be getting my hands on the newest one. I don't expect it to be that much different to this WD19TB.
Thanks so much for your response and testing it out! You're a good man 💪😎🤙💯⚡🏆
Can i power this and my macbook separately, i have this weired issue where it doest output enough power for my macbook pro 2019

(Thinking ahead- my future laptop will probably be a lightening cable laptop.)
I am also having a hard time understanding whether my Latitude 5420 is thunderbolt or not because it has (two Thunderbolt 4 port with DisplayPort Alt Mode/USB4/Power Delivery).
And, with the ever changing ports and the use of the words USB-C and Thunderbolt, and the endless USB 3.0 and Gen 1 Gen 2 etc. etc. Could you please consider doing a "Ports, Connectors & Cables" video? I have two hdmi only monitors.. one monitor I connect it with hdmi(monitor) to hdmi(WD19TB).. and the other one is hdmi(Monitor) to type C(WD19TB) note: I have cable with hdmi to USB typeC . why it doesnt work? is it needed to be my monitor to be Type C?
Just a clarification that the Dell Thunderbolt docks will only deliver 130w of power to Dell computers. For other computers it will only deliver 90w of power (to keep within the Thunderbolt specification).
Thanks Frank Rojas, sorry I had forgot to mention that as well, thanking for bringing that up =).
Display should work on non-thunderbolt PCs as long as it supports display port alt mode. Have you tried this since?
Is it possible to connect 2 monitors using only one usb-c cable to connect each monitor?
2. If there are no any solution from question 1. what is the cheapest KVM for my solution?
good review.. helped me to decide to get this now
Is this better than the d6000?
What’s a display link driver
Can you attach a 3rd monitor to the thunderbolt port using a thunderbolt to DP or HDMI cable?
My M1 MBP stopped charging after a few weeks being connected to this dock. The dock works if I connect the Apple Charger directly to the mac. Power is drawn from the Apple Charger and all of the ports on the dock work except for Power Deliver. Does it still work for you? If yes, do I need to do something?
This still works fine for me for a number of years which is how I am charging the M1 Max MBP. I haven't use the Apple charger for a while now, only when I am travelling interstate when I use the supplied Apple charger to charge up my MBP.

Hi Raj, welcome to my videos. The Dell WD19TB will work perfect with the XPS 7390 but as you know it can be a costly dock. Good video - thank you. I've just taken delivery of the New XPS 15 laptop and want to use it to power 2 - 4K monitors... would you suggest the WD19TB is the very best dock for this? Wow congratz on the new XPS 15 it should be amazing powerful I have been eyeing on it myself, you going to enjoy it! As for pairing it with the WD19TB it will be great as it is one of the supported docks on their site. I agree this dock is very expensive my suggestion's are to do a search for your local computer stores around you. In Australia I found our computer stores selling it for AU$350-400 which is cheaper than Dell Australia RRP$495.
Hope that helps your questions =).

good review. can you used MacBook Pro to connect 4 dell monitor using Dell WD19TB?
@@BsianTech worked perfectly. Thank you so much!
Awesome video, if can I upgrade the Wd19 to Wd19tb by swapping out the modular cable? Thanks
Hi KFC-Delivery, I would say best to call your country's Dell to see if that modular side is available to you.
Does your 2018 macbook pro with touchbar have intel chip or apple chip? I am curious if this would work out of the box with 2022 macbook pro m2
@@BsianTechThanks. Just to be clear that this would work even though my 2022 macbook pro m2 supports only 1 monitor natively. Right?
Do you recommend buying this instead of the WD15? If so, what are the significant improvements?
Hi Jack Zhang, first off just comparing the non-thunderbolt versions of the docks which is the WD15 and WD19 only. Boiling it down to the major real difference if you don't compare the different types of ports both have for monitors if you are running any 4K monitor get the WD19 it will have proper support due to the port performance increase where as the WD15 will only support a single 4K @ 30Hz via the miniDisplayport or HDMI. I hope that helps.
Helpful. Thank you.
Very welcome, its been a pretty good solid dock for sure.
Does it output 130W to MBP16? I saw in some other videos it was a different wattage for non Dell laptops. I was wondering if it will charge the MBP16.
Is tb16 bad ? I keep reading awful reviews

Nice video! Same issue I had here with mine dock! Let’s cross fingers for drive update!
Thanks Marcelo, at least the WD19TB has three monitor display where as the TB16 only was able to to display one external monitor. Would really think it would be driver issue more than anything since hardware proved it can do mirroring to three monitors was my thoughts.
Hi, what about audio on this one? In & Output worked fine?
The audio both in and output works fine from the WD19TB through the MacBook if that what you are asking. I regularly had headphones connected and also used the zoom calls via the WD19TB dock when I was a Mac user
@@BsianTech Thank you! That was exactly what I was afraid of cause I found a document on Dells website that stated some shortcomings when it's used with a Mac. But everything seems fine to me. I might get the WD19TB or the Belkin dock now. Only depends on the price.

This dock will work in your situation, I am currently doing that right now, I have a Dell XPS 15 9500 connected to WD19TB with a Dell 34"monitor, I've connected triple external monitors (all running 60Hz) to this setup no problems.
did you ever get the triple monitor set up to work?
Windows yes, macbook no, max is two external monitors. It is limitation of the macosx that doesn't support MST. If it is a macbook M1, it is only single external monitor support again blame on Apple for not supporting it.
Hey there got a question,
my dell xps 13 is the 9360 which has a very crappy intel graphics and can only do 1080. If i get this dock , does this dock act like a external graphics card per say to boost my monitors to better quality? thanks
No, there's no inbuilt graphics card in the dock
I need to connect it with Focusrite 2i2, and I'm a bit concern about whether it will work or not
i dont know about an audio interface specifically but it works fine with my USB dac that i have hooked up to it
Dude, this is a thunderbolt dock. It does not have a displaylink chip in it. Displaylink drivers are useless here. And of course it won't work with a non-thunderbolt laptop! You are very confused.
Can i connect the thunderbolt to an eGPU which needs a thunderbolt 3 ( btw in my XPS i got only one thunderbolt 3)
Hi Rafik Fares, you have asked an extremely fantastic question and I am completely unsure as I don't own an eGPU to test and explore connecting it to a dock to see how that performs. I will ask Dell directly so stay tune on the reply.
@@BsianTech thanks !
Is it really impossible to use the WD19TB for two extended monitors beyond the MacBook Pro?? 😭
Noice one champ
So it doesn't look like it's worth upgrading from the wd15 for Mac users?
Hi Jonathan Brooks, it really comes down to how many monitors will you be looking at running and will their be a 4k monitor?
This is not a DisplayLink dock. It uses native DP/HDMI over TB3 link, which means it depends only on capabilities of connected system. If you're not able to use all 3 outputs as separate screens then it's a OS X issue, not the dock (it clearly detects and enables all outputs).
Hi Marcin Jaworski, thank you for the comment and explanation. Dell actually approached me to explain this as well which was absolutely fantastic. These videos I make is also a learning experience for me too which I love. After Dell contacted me I made a follow up video on the Dell WD19TB with the MBP. You can see the video here: th-cam.com/video/zaklZRFzKLo/w-d-xo.html . Thanks you again for the feedback =).
@@BsianTech awesome :). Thanks for the update. I've actually ordered WD19TB for my Dell XPS 9570 today and I've found your video while researching the subject. By the way, as far as I know, the dock has a cooling fan or fans. Can you tell anything about the noise level?
Hi - Thank you for the video. However, do you think I can use the non-thunderbolt version with MacBook Pro 13' 2020? Thanks in advance
BsianDad - Thanks that was a useful video. What USB hub would you recommend for a 2020 13inch MacBook Pro especially if I want to use dual screen?
yes, it's great, but now try to get the part to change it... let me know how that goes.
Based on dell support doc for WD19TB here: topics-cdn.dell.com/pdf/dell-wd19tb-dock_users-guide3_en-us.pdf
it supports non-thunderbolt usb-c with displayport alt mode, including Latitude 7480. I'm wondering why you don't get a signal at the end. Maybe try to contact Dell support?
Yes it should work with display-port alt mode over USB C. Did you get it to work?
Would TB18DC work with three displays?
WD19DC will work with three displays yes.
does it work with non thunderbolt type c port?
It does work with a non-thunderbolt usb-c port but I would be getting the normal WD19 if you don't have thunderbolt just to save money.
@@BsianTech Yes , but I'm planning to use this with two machine, one with thunderbolt and another with normal type c port (with display output).
Where can one buy the swappable usb-c module ??
Nowhere! They designed it so for their own profit not ours lol...
Can all the features of wd19tb work properly on macbookpro? Can the power button turn on the macbookpro in the off state? thanks
Will this work with a Microsoft Laptop 3?
Is this dock station compatible with precision M4800???
The WD19 series docks aren’t compatible with the M4800. Look at the good old Dell Advanced E-Port II port replicator those are really good mechanical docks (really love them) and last a long time too. Should be able to pick a cheap one off the reselling market :).
@@BsianTech Many thanks, but my problem is that I need more graphic power and I was thinking about a external dock but I haven't USB-C or thunderbolt in my workstation, what do you think about this? any solutions?; many thanks in advance for your help.👍
You will never get split displays over any docking station. It's a problem of macos - it does not support DisplayPort MST. Thats a pitty...
🛎. And that's the one thing I found out as I researched this more. So my search for dual monitor support on docks was useless.
Has the driver situation changed by now at all?
Hi pxc, not much as change in terms of drivers but I have learnt more on how to get the WD19TB work better with macs on dual screen via the dock if you are a mac user.
@@BsianTech ah I did find that video after posting the comment. Thanks!
Thanks for the great video. I have a Dell xps 13 laptop with 2 usb c ports. I've been trying to understand the difference between the WD19 and the WD 19TB. If I'm understanding your video correctly, it would appear I don't need the thunderbolt version since I don't have a thunderbolt computer. Nor do I have any thunderbolt devices. Am I correct?
I got an XPS 13 9370 and it got 2 Thunderbolt that can support PowerShare, DC-In & Display Port. I just ordered WD19TB for it. Will know when it arrives next week.
@@FaisalHaneef Let us know! I have the same XPS as you.
Do you think it will work with Lenovo new generation Thinkpads?
Shouldn't be an issue besidest the P series that some models do require more power than 90W that the WD19TB can provide to non-Dell computer, like the P73 will struggle to charge the battery while in use, else I would think all the ports will work fine.
@@BsianTech I have X1 Extreme Gen 2. And I see in he manual WD19TB asks to install drivers. Did you install any wd19tb drivers on your mac?
@@aydinjalilov2328 the WD19TB will charge the X1 Extreme Gen 2 but it might pop up a warning message saying it is on slow charge. As for drivers for the Mac, it isn't required. The drivers are for Audio and Ethernet which naively worked on the Mac for the dock.
@@BsianTech This is very useful information. Than you
@@BsianTech Quick update. I just got my WD19TB. It had the same issue as you had in your video. When I plugged the monitors to dock through DP it did not work at first. I had to actually unplug one monitor then it detected the other one. After that I plugged in the second monitor and it was fine. Once the laptop goes to sleep the monitors go black and never come back until I unplug one and repeat the process again. It was frustrating. Luckily I have a dual DP to thunderbolt adapter. When I plug monitors via the adapter to the thunderbolt port both monitors work.
Good, this mac book pro and already the new processor with M1
